The gas filling tube is corroded, the result is the engine trouble indicator is always on. My mechanic tells me that this occurs with all Toyota Camrys that are older than 5 years. Mine is a 2003 with 80,000 miles. The only solution is to replace the entire tube leading to the fuel tank. It seems that the metal corrodes and the gas cap cannot be sealed, the result is the engine indicator comes on the dash board.

The check engine light came on again and I scanned for codes which indicated code number 0456 leak in the fuel system. I have twice before had the same problem and each time had to clean a large amount of rust from the fuel filler neck to correct the problem. I had previously taken the car to the dealer and advised them of the problem. They advised if the check engine light came on again to bring it in for service. When the light came on this time the dealer scanned the same code and diagnosed the fuel filler neck and gas cap must be replaced at a cost of over $300. I contacted Toyota corporation but they indicated the car was not covered. The car can not pass inspection because of the poor quality materials used in the fuel filler neck. Refer to complaint odi id number 10223726 dated September 10, 2007 with the same problem.
September of 2007- I noticed the check engine light came on in my 2003 Toyota Camry le car and I was due for a car inspection for the month of October. The dealership and other repair shops stated that the car would not pass the car inspection with that light on. On September 10th,2007, I took the car to a Toyota dealership and a mechanic found a leak at the fuel filler neck. They replaced the fuel filler neck and cap. The costs were $225 for labor, $143. 60 for parts, and $25. 80 for sales tax for a total repair job of $394. 40! the car was over 3 years old. That shouldn't be happening in a young car. I bought the car in October of 2005 from a Toyota dealership. The complaint is why should the customers be paying for " poor quality" by the Toyota manufacturer when I couldn't have passed a car inspection for their "poor quality " parts? if I can't pass an inspection then we have an emissions and safety issue by the fault of Toyota.
Gasoline leak from fuel tank neck. Brake fluid leak from metal line underneath the car.

I noticed gasoline dripping from the rear of my 2002 Toyota Camry le at the rate of about a drop per second while it was parked with the engine off. The car had not been run for a day and a half and had about 3/4 of a tank of gas in it. The gasoline was dripping near the middle of the rear axle, about 2 inches from the exhaust pipe. I was afraid to start the car and after clearance by the local fire department, had it towed to a Toyota dealer for repairs. The Toyota dealer determined that the vacuum valve assembly had failed and that the charcoal canister assembly was filled with fuel. They replaced both the vacuum valve assembly and the charcoal canister assembly. I do not have the old parts. I had to pay for the full cost of the repairs as Toyota said that my car was beyond the warranty period.
When my engine light came on in my 2001 Toyota Camry, I brought the car to baker auto service. I was told the vsv needed to be replaced, it was on a recall list and I should take it to a Toyota dealer. I brought the car to king Toyota in deerfield beach, FL and paid an $80. 88 diagnostic fee. I was told that the car needed vsv and a charcoal canister. I was also told there was no recall on these parts and the repair cost would be $628. The dealer informed me that is potentially dangerous not to replace these parts because if I am rear-ended the gas tank will explode, similar to the recall
for the Ford pinto. If this is the case, why have these parts not been recalled? please advise me on any mending action on this problem and any recourse I might have.

January 31,2005 dear Toyota customer representative: I have been a Toyota owner and buyer since 1976. I purchase a new Toyota about every two or three years. I presently have a 2002 Camry xle that a purchased new from stevens Toyota, hunting station,NY 11746, tel # 631-423-5013 in 2002. The vehicle has reformed very great with little or no problems as all my pasted Toyotas. The other morning I went is open my gas filler cap and the cap broke in three pieces leaving one piece still in the filler line and the other two pieces in my hand. I was able to get the piece off and fill the car with gas after a period time. I have not replaced the gas cap has of this time. I believe that totota has a problem wiht the manufacturing of the gas filler gas filler cap. Did Toyota recall their gas caps or replacing them under a good customer relations policy? vehicle id # jtdbe30k220051130 model #2540a Camry hoping to hear from you before I purchase my next Toyota. Thank you in advance, robert mica 47-41 245th street douglaston, NY 11363 tel # 718-428-7005 email: uncle wonderful@aol. Com.
