I took my 2007 Toyota Camry for it's 15,000 mile checkup and the mechanic said that the ignition key fell apart when he turned it in the ignition. The key used was my spare key which I keep in a drawer at home. My mileage at the time was 15,203 miles. I contacted Toyota and was told to take it to a dealer which I did and they contacted Toyota by phone and was told the key was not under warranty. I paid $386. 76 for a new key. The key had to be defective in order to fall apart the way that it did. I wrote Toyota explaining all of this and requested that they reimburse me but was told "not under warranty" therefore they cannot reimburse me. I feel that this incident should be documented for future reference.

2009 Camry 4cyl. - when engine was started, with transmission in park, the engine revved to over 4500 rpm without any contact with the gas pedal. Only way to slow the engine was to turn off the ignition. After a few minutes, the engine was started with no issue. Dealer reported "no problem found". Owner believes it is a faulty computer or electrical system.
I was traveling in my Toyota Camry 2001 on I 75 s from royal oak to detroit, mi around 2:30 am on September 6th 2009 ,when suddenly I heard some cracking noise underneath the hood and fire from underneath the hood. I was traveling at around 70 miles/hr and tried to steer the vehicle to wards the shoulder and power steering failed and I saw engine light blinking, then tried to slow down and brakes failed. I quickly used hand brake and stopped the vehicle. I quickly turned off the ignition and tried to open the door and noticed that it was locked. I quickly pulled both the knobs simultaneously and got out of the car and called 911. By the time fire engine came to the scene, the car was on huge fire. My car didn't have any major issues in the past. I did change timing belt as per the company guidelines and at authorized dealer/service center. I changed the tires 2 months ago and oil change 1 and half month ago. Neither cops nor me could come to a conclusion on what went wrong. I am letting you know as it may help to increase the safety of cars if you investigate my car. I will be waiting for your response.

Original ignition key will not start car. Has been difficult for about a month. Luckily it totally failed in my own driveway. We just returned from a long trip. Same thing happened to trunk lock 2 years ago. I had to pay about $250. 00 to have it fixed at my dealer. Expect larger bill for ignition. Dealer will not order new ignition lock until I have it towed in. Bought car at same dealer. Locks seem to be a weak point on this model Toyota. Can I get help from somebody?.

I do not own the 2007 Toyota Camry or the Lexus es350 , but in the course of test driving both of the vehicles, I was shocked to discover that the start/stop button defeats the older ignition key iinterlock system. In the older keyed ignition system the car must be in park to turn off the engine and remove the key from the ignition. In the 2007 models of Lexus and Camry the engine can be turned off with the vehicle in drive simply by touching the brake. Here is no ignition key to place in the steering column. . Please read the following which I sent to your site this morning and was asked to file a formal complaint: 2007 Toyota Camry and Lexus ES 350 do not use an ignition key. They use a "remote" which must be in close proximity to the vehicle when the "start/stop" button is pressed. Other manufacturers (BMW, Volvo) use both a "key" in the steering column and the "start/stop" button. While this second option at first seems redundant, it is a safety feature and Toyota/Lexus products may be prone to "rolling when stopped" in the following scenario: Toyota/Lexus: driver touches brake and hits the "start/stop" button to turn off the engine, but driver forgets to move the transmission from "drive" to "park". Upon releasing the brake the vehicle will move, if not on level ground. BMW/Volvo: as above, but driver is unable to pull "key" from steering column because vehicle is not in "park". Therefore, driver places transmission in "park" before exiting the car, otherwise he will not have the vehicle "key" with him on leaving the car. The Infiniti m35x awd uses a "start/stop" button, but "beeps" an alarm when the car is stopped in drive. In summary: redundancy (key/start-stop button) and alarms serve a useful safety purpose and should be incorporated into the Toyota/Lexus products. Alternatively, the "start/stop" button should be active only when the vehicle is in park or neutral.
The ignition problem was main reason the transmission lock up. And it have cooling problems.

After driving the automobile for some time (the engine was fully warmed), the engine quit and the dash board ceased all indications. This occurred in traffic. Fortunately traffic was very light and I was able to pull to the side of the road without incident. The engine restarted when the ignition key was turned. This occurred on three separate occasions. The vehicle currently has less than 1500 miles on the odometer.

2001-Toyota Camry: there is a burning odor when car is operating. The ignition does not always start the car upon inserting and turning the key. Many times when turning the key, there is a high screeching loud noise and the car remains non-operational for a few minutes which occurs everyday. After the car is running for approximately 20-minutes down the road, there is a burning smell similar to burning rubber. The inside of the car near the floor on driver side and passenger side will become warm. It appears heat is generated from the engine into the inside of the car thus resulting in burning odor. Upon acceleration, the car has a jerky, propelling motion forward. Steering column has some stiffness and at other times it has lot of play with turns. The power/electric windows, clock, and cd/radio player do not work properly. These defects/faults occurred approximately 6 months after used vehicle was purchased. As vehicle was sold as is, I did not return to the dealership for repairs. Car was taken to local mechanic and found nothing wrong. With the exception of the daily ignition/start problem, other problems described above, happen approximately five times a month. Regular scheduled service maintenance are performed however all above problems continue to concern me.

While driving 60 mph vehicle stalled, Toyota will not take responsibility for repairs.
When ignition is turned on, engine fails to start and "engine light" comes on. Manual says when this happens take it to dealer immediately. This happens without any pattern and may not happen again for a week or two. I took it to stevens creek Toyota, 4202 stevens creek blvd, san jose, CA 95129. They could not reproduce the problem and could find nothing wrong. Warranty not complied with because they can't diagnose the problem. Sometimes it takes 3 -5 tries before the engine starts.

While driving at 10mph vehicle stalled out and died without warning several times. Dealer was inspecting vehicle.
On three occasions 10/27/00,01/15/01, and 3/19/01 the same problem has occured with my vehicle. My car is currently in the dealer for the 3rd time. On the first occasion the dealer stated that there was no problem found and that they cleared the code. On the second occasion the dealer declared on paper that the vehicle was unsafe to drive and provided a rental car. On this occasion they replaced the coil pack. I have not heard from the dealer yet regarding the issues currently at hand. On all 3 occasions the car has died. This is an extreme safety issue. I have been driving on the freeway at 65 mph and the car has died. I have gone to turn a corner and the car has died. I have gone through an intersection and the car has died. When I go to start the car there is no power and the maximum speed I can drive is approximately 15mph. Both times I have almost got into a major accident do to this problem. I am extremely concerned for my safety and the safety of my family and other drivers on the rode.

We have several problems with this car. The car hesitates when you take off. The dealership has had it (this will make) 5 times since March 31,1999. They have had it for weeks at a time. The brakes make noises when they are applied. They said they replaced the vents but we still have a problem with them. We still, after all those times in the shop, have the same orginal problems as before we ever went to the shop. We have found out that they have even lied to us when we were buying the car. They told us it was a limited edition and it isn't. They were the orginal owners, they were not. They won't give us the name of the orginal owner. (found this out during arbitration) there are several things wrong with this car. And can't find any help on the situtation. Please advise.
