Failure Date: 11/13/2020

Would not start, 25,000 . Hybrid malfunction warning, OCS warming, pre-collision warning, brake system warning. Dealer claimed software update issue. Had to be towed, late to work urgent care/covid, uber to dealer to get loaner, upset. Friday it happened again and I had surgery scheduled. Hybrid malfunction warning pre-collision warning, do not drive, call dealer, tow truck tested battery and it was good. Lights, bells, stereo worked, held key fob to push start no. 40,000 car and dealer today said, OH, we put in a new battery? in a new car? and for it to not start due to software update???? I go 100 out of city with dogs, no cell and would have been stranded in a brand new car due to no notification of hey there are problems, your car wont start, software update? anything? second time 6 weeks later, missed my surgery appt!!!!!!!! tow it again, they now say that Toyota has fixed on 2021 and dealer had list of vehicles with issues by VIN. Great. Why not tell me. One more lemon law wisconsin. I don't even want to go pick it up. Its going to happen again. I think it is electrical, starter, hybrid. Byw why not replace hybrid battery? because they are too expensive. There are recalls for 2020 complete engines. I want it gone. It was parked in my driveway would not start at critical times. I do not feel safe in it, brake malfunction warning? pre crash warning, hybrid?.

3 Software problem of the 2020 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 11/02/2020

Unexpectedly, my car's 12v battery discharged completely under conditions of regular use and moderate temperatures, while parked in my garage overnight. Car is 11 months old with 6327 miles. It was towed to Toyota repair shop, which re-charged the battery and installed dcm reset and firmware update t-sb-0095-20. The repair representative referred to possible problem with a recent auto software update that may have worn down battery with numerous incomplete (uninitiated) ignition starts. This software fix was applied for this specific instance, but is not being generally applied to all vehicles. The representative said that the problem was not caused by anything I did, and indicated I may want to watch for Toyota consumer notices for further repair. The Toyota technical service bulletin, dcm reset and firmware update t-sb-0095-20 (dated September 30, 2020, accessible online), indicates some 2020-2021 models may exhibit "depleted 12v vehicle battery when in ig-off". The software update is not being applied to all vehicles, and there was no assurance that the problem is fixed and will not occur again. As a driver, this leaves me vulnerable to being stranded without transportation, and reliant on help from strangers if parked in remote recreation areas without cell phone access; an unsafe situation.

4 Software problem of the 2020 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 10/28/2020

In the past two months the battery has died three times. First on 9/14/20 with 1721 miles, second on 9/30/20 with 1962 miles, third time on10/28/20 with 2,994 miles. Every time the error was Smart key malfunction , and the car had to be jump started and brought to the dealer. Two technical cases were opened and the data control module software was updated to the latest release. The vehicle was parked all three times.

5 Software problem of the 2020 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 06/15/2020

I purchase a brand new 2020 Toyota Camry March 2020. On June 15, 2020 my vehicle was parked in my driveway and wouldn't start and had to be towed to the dealership. The doors would not lock and my dashboard displayed a malfunctioning system parking brake disabled. My car remain at the dealership for 4 days. On June 19 I picked up my vehicle. The Toyota technician stated the battery was good after performing a battery test using Toyota dca8000 test. The technician performed an update telematics module i9i-13 dcm to latest firmware to software version high at lg-n010ffb and software version low at cbc-98 or cbc-34 as applicable dealer techstream diagnostic tool. Ok this was suppose to be the fix to my problem. On Aug 19 the same issue happened again. Again I had my car towed to the same dealership. After a series of test they stated it was the battery, so they replaced the battery with a new battery. I didn't understand how it could be the battery when this is a brand new car with less than 12,000 miles on the vehicle. . On Jan 25, 2021 my vehicle was parked in my driveway and my car would start. The radio came on , the lights were working but the car wouldn't start, the steering wheel wouldn't move and the car wouldn't go into neutral. I had my car towed to my dealership again. Technician advise the next day had perform a dcm reset and firmware update for draining batteries to the 2020 Camry. This vehicle has not perform to the standards I expected since day of purchase March 2020. State of georgia will not allow you to submit a lemon law claim because vehicle was not out of commission for 30 days total. I am a very upset customer and will continue to file complaints with Toyota headquarters and possibly seek me a a consumer attorney. As much as I am paying for my vehicle I shouldn't have to continue to wait around for Toyota to get this problem correct.

7 Software problem of the 2012 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 04/04/2015

I experienced a sudden unintended acceleration of my Camry as I was attempting to park the car on the third level of a parking garage. The car had been operating normally until I released my foot from the accelerator pedal to pull into the parking space. Suddenly the Camry started accelerating on its own. I applied the brakes, but the car did not slow down or stop. Since I did not want to crash into ongoing cars or go over the edge unto the street below, I chose to crash into the parking space. The car went over the abutment into the cinderblock wall. The airbags did not deploy. A gentleman tried to remove the car from the abutment but said the brakes were not working nor could he get the car to move. He was able to turn off the engine. Two hours later the tow truck operator could remove the car from its spot with the brakes working. The body shop confirmed that there was nothing wrong with the brakes or accelerator pedal. Corporate Toyota had an edr run. The manufacturer concluded: "after road testing your vehicle at various speeds, conducting acceleration and braking tests, we found no issues. " Toyota did not address the fact that the problem could have been in the software program that malfunctions intermittently. I feel that the car is dangerous since it gives no warning of an acceleration problem; therefore, I donated the car to an institution with the stipulation that it could not be driven on public roads. The car was under warranty at the time of the accident. And when I bought my car, I also had purchased the platinum vehicle service agreement that had a 0 deductible and an expiration of 75,000 miles. I thought we had lemon laws in place for these types of problems. Ultimately I have had to assume the financial burden caused by what is really a Toyota problem.

8 Software problem of the 2012 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 08/13/2013

When a light turns green and I try and go forward my Toyota camery will not accelerate for 2 to 7 seconds. There was a recall for software that was susposed to fix the issue, how ever it is still happening. The issue is itermitant occurring about every 1000 miles. In the last 4 months another issue has happened where I will be going along at about 30 miles per hour and sudenly the car will stal out for about 5 seconds, this has happened 6 times now. I have taken it to two Toyota dealerships the first one refused to look at it without me paying a diagnostic fee, the other Toyota kept the car for a week and said they could not duplicate the problem so there was nothing they would do. I called Toyota national service center at 1 888 2709371 and was told there is nothing they will do because the dealership cannot replicate the problem. My issue is they know there is an issue, they sent me a letter stating that there might be problems and they voulntarly extended my warranty on the specific parts they know can cause issues. I am concerned for my safety, and have tried to get the issue resolved. What are the next steps I can take to get the issue fixed.

9 Software problem of the 2013 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 04/16/2013

The navigation system, which is all electronic in these new models, is randomly malfunctioning, and gives improper voice commands that have caused me to make sudden and unsafe turns. It once told me in the middle of the 405 freeway: "turn left now". It stops navigating on on its own when you haven't reached your destination. It tells you to turn in 300 yards, yet the turn is actually more like 30 yards. While parked at my home address, the navigation displays an address 4 to 5 houses away, (it's about 80 yards away). The system jumped from being on the southbound 405 freeway to the street and said: "route recalculation". These malfunctions are random. My wife and I have actually started video taping the navigation system in action to show the malfunctions. We have actual video footage of the malfunctions. I have tried to have Toyota repair the unit, but was told that there is no software update. Now, I am being told that the navigation system is "operating as designed". This is also not safe to drive as it is distracting, misleading and it doesn't allow me to maintain road awareness. This vehicle is not safe to drive while the navigation is in use.

10 Software problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 03/16/2009

The us federal trade commission has determined in its 2006 & 2007 reports that the Toyota Camry was the highest listed vehicle to be arbitrated. The failure I encountered was that the vehicle failed to move or react when you applied the gas pedal, this is due to a serious gap in response time due to the Toyota "drive by wire" process, software flash updates per the TSB-ecm are not solving the problem, which led to my accident, this problem may have the potential for causing serious injury or death as a result of not being able to accelerate out of harms way. I encourage Toyota Camry owners to return their vehicles per their states respective lemon laws or the federal magnuson-moss act. 2006 Toyota has the highest complaint rating, 286 complaints, totaling 83. 9% of the complaints. Toyota has the top 3 spots for complaints on their vehicles the Toyota Camry was the most complained about vehicle from everyone in all groups 42 complaints, totaling 12. 3% of all complaints. 2007 again Toyota took 85 complaints, totaling 84. 2% the top 3 vehicles were from Toyota, the Camry again is in place number 3 12 total complaints, totaling 11. 9%, the highest now 2 years in a row. . 11 Software problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 04/26/2008

Intermittently, the vehicle will not respond to the throttle. The problem happens frequently, particularly when I brake and decelerate from above 30mph, then make a turn, such as exiting an off ramp, at about 5-20 mph, I press the accelerator to accelerate out of the turn, and the throttle does not respond for about 3 to 15 seconds. I consider this a serious safety issue where I cannot depend on the vehicle responding to the throttle allowing me to control the vehicle. This problem happens under other circumstances, and is completely unpredictable, but the above scenario is the most consistent. I took the vehicle to Toyota for this issue for the second time and was told: . . That is the way it is. . ¿ and ". . This is how the fly-by-wire system works in the Camry. . " by the service tech of power Toyota irvine on Tuesday Apr 29. He acknowledged that it is a safety issue and encouraged me to speak with the tech robert who knows how to work around the issue by manipulating the throttle and recommended that I complain directly to Toyota. He also mentioned that if I bug Toyota, they will be motivated to . . Fix the software, put a new computer in it, or take care of you some other way. . ¿.

13 Software problem of the 2005 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 06/07/2007

2005 Toyota Camry xle--beginning in March 2007 my Camry began to accelerate from a stopped position. My Camry would take off at high speeds from a complete stop and applying the gas pedal. This occurred several times. I took my car to my dealer bill page Toyota in falls church, va. The first time the acceleration occurred was after 2 years and in March 2007. I was on constitution avenue, right lane in DC--which either turns right or goes straight. Constitution avenue is 3 or 4 lanes each east and westbound--I was heading eastbound. When the light turned green, the car in front of me turned right, thank goodness because as I took my foot off the brake and unto the gas, my car shot forward so fast my brakes wouldn't stop my car. Upon slamming on the brakes which were shuddering so badly, I thought my car was never going to stop and hit the next car (rush hour). I stopped short of hitting that car. I was so scared. My service manager said couldn't reproduce and that there was nothing wrong with my brakes or car. He told me that the shuttering is normal when I slam on my brakes--a safety feature to stop the car. Computer said nothing wrong. Had the acceleration problem at least 3 more times. I was at a parking meter, 1st space. Got into my car, turned on the key, released my emergency brake, and took my foot off the brake and unto the gas. I wanted to make a right turn. There were 2 people on the sidewalk, and thankfully they did not walk in front of my car--I would have run over them. My car took off so fast from a stopped position that I had a hard time stopping my car. I immediately took my 2005 Camry to the dealer. Again service manager told me computer says there is nothing wrong with my car--think computer/software glitch. Last week Toyota corp said won't fix b/c not on recall and only intermittent, which is the problem. Told me I own the car, it's out of warranty won't pay to fix. Help! when driving it's like russian roulette!.

14 Software problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 02/18/2007

Since day 1 car has been garbage. Engine hesitates almost everytime I need to speed up to change lanes and car has been shaking when I brake coming off the highway. Worst car ever and dealership has charge me everytime I bring t in to get this checked. They says "this is how it is manufactured!" abd then charge me for making them check my car and nothing being wrong with it, but clearly this is a huge problem. My old 1992 Mercury sable never jerked and went to random gears neither should this brand new car. I have now had this car for almost one and a hla years and now I finally am sick of the service after I almost got in a huge huge accident due to this engine transmission problem!.

15 Software problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 11/23/2006

2007 Toyota Camry acceleration problem the consumer stated while driving on a two lane section of the highway, the vehicle accelerated out of control up to 90 mph and it didn't respond to any braking effort. Even after shifting the automatic transmission into neutral, the vehicle would simply not slow down, even with both feet on the brake. Finally, the consumer decided to turn off the key. Once the key was turned off, the vehicle finally began to slow down. The consumer stated the pedal was not trapped under the mat and he believed there was some type of computer or software problem, since the vehicle was put into neutral without any effect. Updated 03/29/10.

16 Software problem of the 2007 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 09/25/2006

I bought a 2007 Camry (6 cylinder) with 6 speed transmission in sept. 2006. The transmission slips between 3rd and 4th gears when it is cold. It works normally after it has warmed up, although it seems to be somewhat indecisive, especially when accelerating. It has been back to the dealership for normal service three times. It has 15,300 miles on it now. The dealer service department wants to reprogram the computer but does not seem very confident the reprogramming will help. I will try this before I trade it for a new Honda accord. So far no situations involving safety have occurred.
