I have been a loyal Toyota owner for 20 years and I would like to tell you about my latest experience with my 2005 Toyota Camry. After 91,000 miles, I needed to get a new transmission. I typically drove my Toyota to 150,000 miles and never had any problems with the power train. I contacted Toyota customer service, they initially said they might be able to help me but never followed up. I tried to contact customer service, but could not get through. I recently had my car repaired for $3300 at aamco to get it drivable. They had to fix the transmission and the wiring to get the car working again. Several electrical connectivity issues existing; and still remain. The only good news was the ecm was operating correctly. Now that aamco fixed my car, ive noticed that my cars about 400 - 600 rpm lower than before. Other problem with the car include dash lights going out after 4 â½ years. Clearly this is not a good situation when it takes several hundred dollars of labor to replace a $2 light bulb. The lights that are out are the fan speed, heat dial and the lights on the dashboard for the shift indicator. I believe there is an electrical issues with the 2005 Toyota Camry that also need investigation.

On the afternoon of February 13, 2007 my wife drove our 1999 Toyota Camry le 20 miles from our house to a government facility where she volunteers as an income tax preparer for the irs through the city of phoenix. As she was waiting to make a left hand turn into the parking lot of the building the car stalled but she managed to get it started again with the gear shift in neutral and proceeded into the parking lot where the car stalled twice again. She was able to park the vehicle in a parking slot and she went into work. After about 30 minutes my wife was called out to the parking lot where she witnessed the city fire department extinguishing a fire coming from the engine of the Camry. The fire completely destroyed and melted the entire engine. A phoenix police officer was parked in the lot prior to the fire and took a statement from my wife after the fire was extinguished. We had the vehicle towed to our residence. The Camry had about 65000 miles on the odometer and was running in good condition before the fire. I had routine maintenance performed on the vehicle. There were a few minor problems with the car; the driver door push button lock, the stereo and the parking brake indicator were intermittent. No other indicator lights came on. The Camry was purchased from a Toyota dealer in August of 2002 as a Toyota certified used vehicle. This dealer did not disclose any information about engine gel, the secure key lock and wiring harness defects in the vehicle. We researched the internet and found similar cases of engine fires in 1999 Camrys that started after the vehicle was parked and some while they were driving. We only had liability coverage on our Camry. We are down to one vehicle and we have suffered a total loss.

The engine seized and blew while driving on the interstate, which caused a catastophic fire and complete damage to the entire engine and surrounding parts. It was a potentially disastrous event that could have caused great injury. We are contacting Toyota regarding the newsworthy "engine sludge" problem that they are admitting in 1996-2000 Camrys (ours was 1996) and there claim of honoring engine damage claims.

On 2/9/2002 driving on the 55 close to the 91 freeway we noticed smoke coming from the vents of the passenger side of the car. We barely had time to park it on the side of the road the brakes were already burning so we had to coast to a complete stop. We ran away from the car for it was already ignited with flames when we got to another car that had stopped to help us the car blew up leaving the frame only orange county fire dept assisted us . And declared the car a total loss. We then contacted Toyota who then said it was our fault and we had to pay for the car. Thecar was and still is under warranty which expires on 4/16/2004 upon purchasing the vehicle Toyota sold us lojack theft system 2 days later they came out to our house and installed it the only maintenance done on this car was lojack and my brother added 1/2 quart of oil no maintenance was needed at the time of the fire. I bought the car with 318076 miles on it and it had 40100 at the time of the fire. Toyota says that they are not at fault ,that I am for not having proper maintenace done to the car and it is not a manufacturer defect or design therefore they say that I am liable for the whole bill which I feel and know that they are wrong it was under warranty and they needed to check out the facts before leaving me without a car and now a bad debt. I told them I still had the payments put up and was willing to deliver the payments if they compensated me with another car or just make me see where it is my fault. Please advise and let me know something soon for they want to sue me for this I need help thank you so much yolanda gamboa 9123 admiralty Ave riverside, CA. 92503 909-689-9805.
