1 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2012 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 09/03/2020

On hwy 65 mph power steering warning light came on then lost power steering and then car died in middle of hwy at 65 mph skidded to a stop. It was very frightening. I was almost hit 3 times by cars trying to steer my way to the side of the road. Car was taken to twin city Toyota and I called Toyota and they told me that it's a recall on other cars but not mine. I could have been killed or killed other people. I threatened to call and report to you, and then they were willing to help me. Car hasnt been inspected yet. I dropped key in drop box at twin city Toyota in herculaneum mo. I'm scared to drive it now.

2 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2008 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 01/01/2020

Lost power steering while parking the car, ps light also became on. The car became difficult to steer, but was able to complete parking job as the car was almost in parking position. Called aaa and towed the car home (2pm, no dealer was open) and later drove to a nearby dealer (the aaa driver told me how to handle the steering). The initial diagnostic by the dealer (stevens creek Toyota, san jose, CA) is an ecu failure. Dealer told me that we were luck as it is very hard to control the car with this problem. I was lucky that it happed while we were parking the car. If it happened on highway, it can potentially cause crash for sure. Car is 2008 Camry hybrid, 105k mile. Well maintained, all maintenance work were done by Toyota dealer. What made me extremely concerned is that this car has a history of critical safety function failure in the past. 1) driver side winder switch was overheated and generated a lot of smokes. Dealer said the switch has a defect, and I believe it led to a recall later. 2) driver side window wiper stopped moving while driving in rain, lost visibility in seconds. Dealer said a defect in the motor cause the problem, but not sure whether it led to a recall. 3) ps / ecu problem that made the car hard to control. I think Toyota is doing extremely poor on their car's safety. The dealer report is not done yet. I will update it later thanks xiaobo wang.

3 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2017 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 04/14/2019

While driving on a street at approximately 25mph, I approached an intersection with a stop sign. I applied the brakes and lost power steering electric boost, abs system, stability control, and speedometer. I was driving in a straight line leading up to the intersection. There was no warning leading up to this loss of function. All systems remain non-functioning. Warning lights for steering, brakes, abs, traction control, and check engine light are illuminated. The dealer states that the abs actuator is faulty. The repair part not immediately available. The Toyota rep stated that there was no additional warranty at this time. The repair will be $3000. There are other reports of similar issues. This could be an unrecognized systemic safety hazard. My vehicle has not experienced slowdowns as others have reported when experiencing similar system failures. Uncommanded slowdowns in the heavy traffic in this region could result in a fatal accident. Request NHTSA immediately look into this issue as there are other reports of this issue. The dealer indicated that the abs parts are on back order which leads to the inference that abs actuators are being replaced while no NHTSA reports are being filed systems impacted includes, brakes, steering, speed control, stability control. Systems are basic safety systems.

Failure Date: 07/25/2018

The contact owns a 2015 Toyota Camry. While driving various speeds, the vehicle lost power steering ability without warning. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the power steering motor failed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and did not assist since the VIN was not included in a recall. The failure mileage was 62,000.

5 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2004 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 03/04/2013

I was driving, took a corner and my car turned off without warning or signal, and I lost power steering and hit another parked vehicle. I proceeded to turn my car back on, drive ten feet and the engine shut off again without warning. I went to the auto body shop and they stated it was a code 2112 throttle issue. I researched on the internet and saw several other consumer complaints about this same issue with the same make/model/year and around the same mileage as my car has. Toyota is not recalling or providing free service on the parts and I was given an estimate of over 1300. 00 to fix. Seeing that this is normal wear and tear - I didnt do a thing to cause this to happen, and it's a safety issue, I believe they should be replacing and or recalling these vehicles.

6 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2001 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 06/16/2011

It was raining very hard and the temp outside was around 70. I may have driven thru a puddle just before I turned my car , as I turned my steering froze up, like I lost power steering only worse, I couldn't turn the wheel to straighten out my car so I had to stop my car. After a few seconds I was able to get control of the steering again. After driving for about 10 minutes the steering problems went way. This steering problem continues to occur whenever it's very wet outside, when it's raining hard. I brought my car to a auto mechanic who checked the belts and steering fluid and said everything looked normal.

7 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2005 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 10/13/2009

When driving on highway, there was some noise coming from the engine compartment, and suddenly I lost power steering and lights flashed on the front panel. I managed hard to pull off the vehicle from the highway, it was so hard make turns to the ramp. The engine temperature started to fluctuate. There was little smoking come out, I had to stop there. It was turned out there was a belt fell out and my alternator eventually died. My car is 4-cylinder, not 6.

8 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2004 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 08/24/2007

When I was driving my car from parking lot to go home, I heard loud noise from front of my car and felt stiffness of control of my car. I tried to drive back to parking to take a look, but the car lost of power steering assist. The car was towed to Toyota dealer. The dealer found out the power steering pulley had broken off and the drive belt came off. I was lucky it happened in parking lot, or I may get to a car accident. I have contacted to Toyota, but they said it was not in recall of failed crankshaft pulley because the VIN number does not in the range of recall. But my car has exactly same issue the recall NHTSA campaign id number: 11v539000 has. The car is 2004 Camry.

9 Lose Power Steering problem of the 2002 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 07/15/2003

I experienced a tremendous frustration -- while driving in downtown washington, DC, my car lost its power steering. When I opened the hood, I saw that the reservoir for power steering fluid was indeed full. Not wanting to be stranded 40 miles from home, I drove to the dealer from which I purchased the vehicle. I was advised that it could be several days before my car was evaluated and/or repaired. About 2 days after purchasing the vehicle, I returned it for 2 complaints: (1) the driver seat jars forward and back upon stopping and accelerating, approximately 80-90% of the time; (2) stopping/slowing the vehicle at speeds greater than 40mph (such as when slowing for an exit) causes the vehicle to shake and pull to one side. I was advised, by the services manager that the seat moving "happens in this kind of car", and that the alignment of the car was "ok" and that "pulling and shaking happens in this kind of car". And, I've tolerated it. Now, I'm wondering if the shut down of the steering also 'happens in this kind of car'. If so, I don't want "this kind of car" and perhaps my needs would best be served by some other 'kind of car'.
