2 Rear Window Defogger problem of the 2004 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 04/08/2010

The vehicle's rear window defroster, which I believe is a required safety item in NJ, does not work. Per Toyota, entire convertible top must be replaced to repair window, and the new defroster does not work either. Toyota refuses to acknowledge that this is a design flaw and refuses to replace the top under warranty or repair the window so that the defroster works. This problem with the solara convertible has been an ongoing problem spanning many years, starting with 2004 model.

3 Rear Window Defogger problem of the 2005 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 02/12/2010

I have a 2005 Toyota solara convertible. The rear defroster is not operating. I took the car to the dealer and was told that the circuit board was bad. It would cost $3500 to correct since the top would need to be replaced. There was no other resolution to this problem. The car has 33,000 miles on it and is no longer under warranty. The dealer said they have only seen this two other times. Since I live in a cold climate, I feel this is a safety issue. I feel this is a defect in the car. I have emailed Toyota and wrote to them and have not received any response.

5 Rear Window Defogger problem of the 2006 Toyota Camry

Failure Date: 11/15/2005

The defogger wires in the rear window reflect headlights and glare from behind the vehicle. It creates a prism effect, with 10-12 lines showing both above and below each and every headlight or bright light source behind the vehicle. The image you see in your rear-view mirror is false, misleading and distracting. Changing tint and/or mirror does not affect the problem. The rear windows need to be replaced with a different design that includes defogger wires that have a non-reflective surface.
