36 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/06/2012

As I was driving on hwy, I suddenly lost my power stearing and I had power stearing light, vsc and slippery car light cam on. From that point on I didnt have power stearing, it was difficult to drive since it was hard to turn. Thank god that I didnt get invovle in wreck. When I took it momentum Toyota dealer in tulsa and explaned what happend, serivse advisor said that since it has almost 45,000 it is not covered under warrenty. When I called to Toyota customer service and express my safety concern, they said if it is concern that I need to get it fixed and pay out of pocket since it has about 45000 miles on it. I also informed them that it is well know issue on and there are alot of people having issue with power stearing, he said I am sorry you vehicle is out side the warrenty and we will not cover it.

37 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2012

This vehicle uses a drive by wire (dwb) accelerator. When you press on the gas the car lurches forward. This happened on a rental car in 2010 and still is a problem on the used Toyota I purchased. When I contacted Toyota they stated there was no recall information. They asked me to have the vehicle diagonized at my expense, which I refused to do. This is a problem and based on information on the net others are having the same problem. I have owned many cars and not one has had such a touchy pedal.

38 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2012

Takata recall. Gas pedal becomes stuck with floor mat when car is in motion. We have had to remove floor mat for safety. Removal of floor mat has caused wear and tear on floor board covering.

39 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/29/2010

I have a 2010 Toyota Corolla with 1,900 miles on it, I purchased the veh in the middle of November. After purchasing the vehicle I began to notice that my right arm would collect static electricity when I would place it on top of the center arm rest/console. At first I would only get the static spark when I touched the metal frame of my door, then when I entered the vehicle I would once again collect the static electricity on my right arm from the center arm rest/console. I began to just not pay attention to the static build up I would get until yesterday December 29, 2010. I excited my vehicle and proceeded to open my gas compartment door, as I touched the compartment door, I received the static spark. Now I am becoming concern because it happen when I touched the compartment door had it happened a few seconds later I could have been pumping gas. I drove to the Toyota dealer near my home and was asked to sit in another 2010 Toyota Corolla and I also build up static electricity, then they had me sit in a 2010 Toyota camry and nothing happened. Clearly the type of material used on the center arm rest/console is causing this static build up on my arm. The material used in the camry is not causing this. The dealer told me that they didn't know of any static complaints. I would like to have someone investigate this, it isn't safe to go pump gas while having static electricity. I can show anyone who would like to see it how the hairs on my arm stand up once I touch the center arm rest/console.

40 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2010

Unintended acceleration since purchase of vehicle.

41 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/09/2010

My 2010 Toyota Corolla continues to have acceleration issues. Now it accelerates with the cruise control on to speeds over 100/110 mph. I had to drive my car from vermont to California, and used my cruise control for the first time. The speed limit was 75 to 80 mph in areas and I set the cruise control to 72. The next thing I new, the car suddenly lurched forward on its own & went completely out of control. It went to speeds of 100- 120 mph within 1-2 minutes and I could hardly control the car. I have been in 3-4 acceleration incidents with this vehicle already and been injured (the reports I have already filed with your agency this past year). This vehicle is going to kill someone. There is an electrical or engine problem with these Toyotas, no matter what the NHTSA, the feds, or Toyota states. It is not the way americans are driving ! don't insult our intelligence. How many more innocent victims have to get hurt. All we are asking is for Toyota to take these cars back and replace them with a safe car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that is what is fair to the consumer. That is what the lemon law is for. Yet why does no one listen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

42 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/27/2010

My 07 Toyota Corolla s started stalling and the check engine light came on. The car started and was fine. The next day the same thing happened. When I went to start the car again stalled. I took the car to the dealer and they fit me right in even though they were busy, which I appreciated very much. This all happened at approximately 62,000 miles. Luckily the car was still covered under 8 yr/80000 miles warranty.

43 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/09/2010

Our 2010 Toyota Corolla (automatic transmission) frequently hesitates as if acceleration has ceased and then reaccelerates after it appears to switch gears. Happens at highway and freeway speeds, seems to increase with use of a/c. After test drive, Toyota mechanic explained this is normal and due to electrical parts that have replaced mechanical parts. He said car is thinking when it switches gears and apparently stops its other function (I. E. , maintaining a steady speed) for a "nanosecond. " this happens every block or so in highway driving, and although the speed doesn't change, the impulse changes are physically perceptible (we can feel it in the seat and steering wheel, as if the car is jerking). The mechanic said this is normal in newer cars as most have gone to the new technology. The mechanic's explanation is logical, but Toyota's acceptance of this as normal in newer models of cars is disturbing. We do not experience this in our 2010 Ford fusion. Please note: several required fields on form were not applicable, such as mileage at which we experienced failure, date of incident, etc. We just related most recent info in these fields.

44 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2010

My new 2010 Toyota Corolla, (less than 1000 miles) accelerated suddenly. I was driving in a parking lot and going about 15-20 mph. I applied the brakes after the first car was hit but was unable to avoid hitting the second car. My car and two other cars nearby were damaged, but no one was injured. .

45 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/18/2010

Stopped at a red light, my 2010 Toyota Corolla shot up to 6,000 rpm/100mph. We were able to put it in park and shut car off before it lurched forward into the car ahead. Toyota has had the car since Monday and is trying to find out what is wrong with the computer. A report was filed with customer experience center and a case number has been assigned to the incident.

46 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 03/10/2010

Toyota 2010 Corolla brake system failed. The emergency brake went on , while I was driving without me doing anything. The odometer stopped working, brake, check-engine, panic mode and airbag system lights went on. The failure has occurred twice already, first starting as a brake failure, then almost leading to the accident when everything failed at once. Almost got into an accident and I couldn't accelerate in the car. I took the car to the dealership and they gave me run around, they still don't know how to fix it or what's wrong with it. This car is beyond unsafe to drive, luckily it didn't lead to an accident and injuries both to me and other drivers.

47 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/25/2010

Correction and addition to my 1st complaint. Yesterday I had to drive my husband home from the hospital and unfortunately I had to get on the hwy. The car road home was more worrisome than his surgery! the eps in the 2010 Corolla is just as dangerous as the other Corolla I had before it. Its blowing all over the road, taking me into other lanes, I almost hit other cars on the hwy, my husband got all distressed in the car and begged me to get him home so he could get out of my car which he now has dubbed a death trap. The car basically veers in and out of the lane your in. Its like trying to drive in the road ruts only there wasn't any because our stretch of hwy had just been paved with black tar and all was flat and nice on the road surface but the car still took me all over and im not alone when I scream to you please im begging you to come to my house and drive my car!!!!! I can guarantee you will recall this model as well!!! this is dangerous!!! no person should have to get see to there car blowing around like a kite in the sky. Im begging you please come drive my car!!! this is dangerous and I feel like im going to die in this car.

48 Electrical System problem

I want something done about this. . !.

49 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/09/2010

Toyota Corolla s 2010 [xxx] with extra stabilizer bar kit, purchased 11-30-09 with delivery in 12/09. 1) approximately 1 month after purchase ,the car starting to veer sharply right then left when driving on the highway, it was/is difficult to control requiring a tight grip on the wheel. It feels like strong winds are moving the car but winds are absent and road conditions are normal. This event comes and goes unexpectedly, generally lasts the duration of my commute once started, sometimes occurs with the tire pressure gauge but not always, sometimes occurs after rapid braking. It does not feel like an alignment or balance problem, the car darts from one end of the lane, to the median of the lane on its own. On this date 2-24-10 my local dealership filled the tires, and made a slight change to the left alignment they could not duplicate the problem and stated "this could be a matter of personal preferences" regarding how I felt the car drove when this occurred. The Toyota manager also told me today that they understand "there could be a problem but they have no direction on how to repair it. " when asked then if he could guarantee my safety and that this would not occur again he stated no, but there was nothing for him to do. No injuries to date. I do not feel Toyota is making reasonable efforts to quickly eliminate this problem, acknowledge a problem, and do not wish to resolve this with statements regarding my personal preference for the drive, and since this in their opinion is not reproducible for them it is not a viable problem for them to repair. 2) on approximately 2-11-10 I had to use my brakes in an emergency situation in which my brakes were temporally non-response. I had to downshift the gears, remove my foot totally from the gas pedal ,and maneuvered the car away from the other stopped car. No abs was felt, the brake pedal was depressed fully, this occurred at hwy speeds. No acknowledgement of problem or remedy proposed by toy currently.

50 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/06/2010

I have 2010 Toyota Corolla (VIN# [xxx] ) purchased on oct 31 2009 from sansoneautomall, NJ. There is a problem with the steering column initially which started with some unique sound, then from Feb 2010 I was seriously facing steering freeze (will get harden) only 15-20% of steering moves when in 0' speed, for this I have visited my dealer service center 3 times but there is no use. Only with lot of disappointment and arguments saying "what is the reason to buy a brand new car to get problems" I was requesting to solve my problem. They simply said, there is nothing we can do if you have no other mean to commute its upto you and if you want you call Toyota head quarters for this. I even spent lot of time in calling main Toyota nr but simply I get voice message that "there is huge volume of call waiting please wait". I really wonder when I/anyone buy a car from dealer and if they cannot receive me assist me properly "where from I get the justice????". Recently I found two more new problems they are: in a slope road car picks-up acceleration and maintains speed as if it is cruised and once I apply break after a while the speed comes to normal position other prob- fuel indicator stuck up to full level indi' even the fuel is low. With this I'm day by day getting depressed as I spent quite lot of savings (money) on the car to avoid any hassles buying a used car, but unfortunately its a disaster to me. I request to provide me needed solution to fix my depressing situation. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

51 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2010

My 2007 Toyota Corolla had a failed ecm which caused the check engine light to come and stall the engine. In addition, my vehicle had high rpm and shifting gear problems as well. The failed ecm issue was discovered by a specific code for check engine light. I called Toyota and they were certainly aware of the problem however told me that they did not have enough complaints to recall the issue. I called Toyota dealer and they informed since my mileage was 95,000 and the warranty would only cover up to 80,000 miles. I ended up getting the ecm replaced for about $800 at carmax which was $700 cheaper than what Toyota wanted to charge. I called Toyota headquarters again to complain and was left with no resolution. After my research online, this was a well known problem to Toyota however they failed to address this issue. This issue occurred to many vehicles as low as 35000 miles under warranty and still continue to occur out of warranty over 80000 miles. I feel if they had a recall on this issue, I would have never had these issues with my car being stalled and having to replace the ecm. I recently read an article in news about your involvement in regards to investigation of this issue and hope Toyota can recognize to accept this failed recall. I have also found many other Toyota customers who are all over the internet sharing similar feedback. . Read more...

52 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/28/2010

I have been taking my Corolla to the dealership almost every week since 01/28/2010 and every week I complained about how the car was drifting side to side and how on low windy days I have to fight the steering wheel to keep it in its lane at speeds above 65mph. And every time I take it over there they say "well the car is working to factory standards" and they will send me on my way. I have had my brakes bled and my car alignment done twice and the car only has 2000+ miles on it. So I took the car back to the dealership from where I bought it and they gave me this cust states vehicle is all over the road at highway speeds like the computer is driving the car on its own ~|~performed health check on all systems. No trouble codes stored. Test drove vehicle on 10 mile trip and ~|~vehicle performed as designed at this time. Please direct customer to Toyota at 1-800-331-4331 if they have any other questions. So I took the car back and called the # to them and they said since the tech could not find the problem then there is no problem. Bull. So on 03/01/2010 I took my car back in to the dealership to have someone go on a drive with me and I made sure it was a windy day so they can see how hard it is to keep the car centered in its lane. The mechanic that went with me said OH I see what you are talking about he even had a hard time keeping the car from wondering off. So he said well it could be the tires are not to the right pounds. I said nope I had the air done to factory standards of 35psi all around. So he said he will need the car for over a day and scheduled appt for me to come in I took it back on 03/03/2010 and haven't had my car back since then. They still have my car in the shop as I type. So there is definitely a problem with the car. I feel like I can hurt or even kill someone in the car because of it. I have had more problems with this car and its not even 60 days old yet. Plus I already had the recall done on it too.

53 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/22/2010

While driving a 2010 Toyota Corolla le the steering wheel unexpectedly jerked away from my control. In addition, the power steering and braking system is making strange sounds, such as hissing, pings and cracks. I took the car to Toyota dealership and mechanic stated it is probably the electrical system. He also stated that Toyota will probably recall car due to complaints with powersteering. Due to the above issues and recent recalls on my car, my wife and I don't feel safe and secure in car. We are scared of dying like other Toyota owners have in the past. We would like a full refund of $17, 209. 97 from Toyota motor sales USA.

54 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2010

I have 2010 corollo sport if I am driving on 45 mile/hour and hit the brake then remove my leg from the brake. The car maintain speed of 20-25 mile/h for about 2 minutes. I took to the dealer they test it and they confirmed that this happens. And they told me this is a normal behavior, and I know it is not.

55 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2010

The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Corolla le. While sitting idle in the parking position, the vehicle momentarily lunged forward. While traveling at various speeds as low as 50 mph, the vehicle would veer to the right. Also, the keyless remote, which also acts as a vehicle locator, would only operate intermittently. Often, the vehicle locator alarm would go off on without driver input. The dealer advised changing the batteries in the keyless remote. That did not correct the failure. The dealer then attempted to reprogram the keyless alarm sensor and advised the locator could only be used for short-range locating. No further repairs were performed on the vehicle. The failure and current mileages were approximately 6,300. The consumer stated the brakes did not perform as designed. Updated 07/19/jb.

56 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2009

Since obtaining the vehicle in 2009 brand new, upon breaking gradually, it surges forward slightly when it feels like it should slow down. I have brought this issue up to my local Toyota dealership who denied any such inconsistencies. Also, there have been electrical issues for the past few years when turning on the radio; after pushing any button at any time, it will randomly change the display to nonsense characters or become blank.

57 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2009

The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Corolla. The contact was driving approximately 50 mph on normal road conditions the engine warning light indicator illuminated on the instrument control panel followed by an unexpected engine stall. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer for inspection. The technician replaced the computer module. The contact had concerns of the safety risk involved. The failure and current mileages were 50. Updated 01/05/10 the consumer stated the engine warning light did not come on until after the incident occurred. The consumer was in the fast lane when the vehicle stalled and he had to push the vehicle off the road. The dealer found an internal short in the ecu. Updated 01/07/10.
