38 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2005 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 09/09/2008

Here I report an accident which may be caused by Toyota unintended accelerate problem. We bought 2005 Toyota Corolla sport on July 09, 2004. We drive 2000-3000 miles/ per year. As we bought 5 years pre-paid maintenance, we have regular maintenance service with faulkner dealer every half year until July 09, 2009. There has no big problems during the first 3-year warranty period except on around summer of 2007, the check engine light is on and Toyota dealer replaced the computer control system without charge (were not sure the replaced computer name and we think the dealer should have record). The weather condition is light-medium rain while our car accident happened. When the accident happened, my 5-year old son and I were in the car. The road speed limit is 25 miles per hour, I drove under the speed limit at a local road and it is about 2-3 miles distance to our destination. I remembered that I reduced the speed around a curve to turn on another road. Suddenly I heard a loud roaring engine sound came from inside, even I pressed and pressed the brake pedal for several times, but I feel that I step on the air, it didn't help. The car automatically accelerated with the speed I cant control and I lost the control of the steering wheel, my car was in malfunction status and crashed to the right curb and then hit the bush with a high speed and trapped in wet mud (thank for god). The engine was still roaring with a scared loud sound for minutes till I turned off the ignition and took off the key. Our car was damaged seriously by this accident, our car insurance company paid for more than $7,000 for the repair of this damage and I paid $1,000 for this collision. We kept both the police and repair record in case you required. At that time we didn't realize this accident may be caused by the unintended accelerate problem which recalled . Because our car computer system was replaced by dealer in 2007, we may still faced the recalled problem.

41 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2005 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 12/25/2007

I purchased a 2005 4 door Toyota Corolla ce from a dealer here in puerto rico. I purchased the vehicle brand new. I am still making payments on this vehicle has I am going into my 4th year this year of making payments. The dealer suggested transmission oil change service every 15,000 miles. My vehicle has already over 72,000 highway miles. So far I have done 3 transmission oil changes mainly because they are not cheap. Last December I noticed that the cars transmission at certain periods would not shift while idling and then taking off. My car has an automatic transmission. I took it in for service thinking that it was time for an transmission oil change. Last night again I noticed that the automatic transmission would not shift. I parked the vehicle on the side of the road, shift the vehicle into park, and then started into drive again. For some reason that seems to work and from then on the vehicle seems to work fine. I am the original owner of this vehicle and I have never had any collisions with this vehicle. I was actually looking for recalls on the NHTSA for this particular vehicle and all I could find was a recall for the front head lamps from enco. Pls reply.

42 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2007 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 10/28/2007

I was looking for an unfamiliar address on a very steep hill, and I stopped briefly to look around. I took my foot off the brake and, as would be expected, rolled back a bit while moving from brake to gas. I pressed the gas pedal and got no response; my car started rolling uncontrollably and swiftly backward. No gas, no brake. I was able to stop my car only by pulling the parking brake. I learned at the dealership the my car was designed to do this. No kidding; if you roll back more than a couple of inches when your car is in "drive," as you will necessarily do on a steep hill, your engine will shut off automatically and you will lose control of your car. The tech at the dealership acted like I was an idiot for not knowing this. I asked "so the engine will shut off to save the transmission, at the expense of lives and property threatened by an uncontrollable vehicle?" he just shrugged. It is a miracle that I did not hit anyone or end up in the trees. The 2007 Toyota Corolla is an unsafe car, and should be taken off the road.

43 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2004 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 03/15/2007

I am having what could be a serious problem with my almost new Corolla 2004 with only 8000 miles. If I leave the car parked for say more than a week, I then start it, and try to go into reverse the car takes (lags) like 5 or 6 seconds to sort of engage the gear. At first it sort of like starts to go but not fully (slips) and after that it goes solid in to reverse. I hope you understand my explanation?? dealer has performed the hydraulic test, reset the memory, and changed the oil.

44 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2003 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 03/05/2007

Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6) purchased 2003, Toyota, Corolla, VIN: [xxx] with daughter. Veh was purchased from Toyota of orange in CA. Two days later a hit and run driver forced veh to skid across five lanes on interstate 10 in ontario, CA, and landed atop center divider. The vehicle was sent to repair shop and "repaired" after approximately 5-8 months. However, the car was never properly repaired, and I complained to both Toyota , and to the insurance company, allstate, but Toyota adamantly stated the veh was without problems. The car was continually in the shop for the brakes. Eventually the carpet caused the accelerator to become stuck and the car went out of control. I was forced to reach down while the car moving and pull the carpet with both hands to release the accelerator. Stepping on the brakes did not help. Neither Toyota repair nor allstate would help resolve our complaints since 2003, we were simply told that the veh was fine. Additionally I believe the frame is bent, lack of interlocking brakes causing skids, brakes are soft and drop to floor, and poor steering column. This car is dangerous and is impossible to drive without involving near miss accident episodes. The car skids if going as little as 5-10 miles per hour. I offered to give the car away to anyone who was willing to investigate my complaints, all to no avail. I just recently learned that one of the problems I heard in the brand new car was a hole in the exhaust system. Toyota continually denied this for 5-6 years, then by accident a very young newly employed staff at Toyota of orange, informed us that our complaint about loud air sounding noise was a hole in the exhaust, which had been continually making the noise, and burning of eyes (migraines). The brakes were repaired every 2-4 months or less until I just reported less frequently. The car is now no longer under warranty. Currently it needs some brakes, rotors, drums, calipers, and shocks as always.

49 Automatic Transmission problem of the 2003 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 12/01/2003

Transmission downshifts from overdrive to lower gear, when tapping brakes in order to slow down slightly at high speed. Going down hill, for example, resulting in sudden surge of rpm, acting like a brake and taking a while to shift back into overdrive. This puts tremendous strain on engine, and results in poor gas mileage. It doesn't seem proper that it should downshift when slowing from 70 to 65. Even punching the accelerator doesn't seem to make it go into od until several seconds have passed. 2003 Toyota Corolla.
