12 Wiper problem of the 2021 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 04/22/2024

Yes the car can be inspected. Yes took to dealership today and they don’t know what’s causing it but what between $855 - 1,100 to fix. When it rains the front wipers automatically come on as they should. Then without warning, they stop working and on three occasions a wiper flew off and my teenager had to stop and run into middle of road to get the wiper. She was on a rural highway and could not see well without the wipers working. I replaced the wipers, but when it down poured rain again, like before they just stopped working with no warning. She had to drive 25 mph on a road that was ranges 45 -55 mph. She had a very hard time seeing and could have wrecked. This could have caused an accident had she been on the freeway going 70 mph. A google search shows others have experienced this issue with their car. The only person who has inspected the issue / car is the Toyota dealership today. They said they don’t know what’s causing it and would cost more money to try and diagnose, but they said it appears if you run the wipers at the very slowest speed it does not malfunction. I don’t have the money to fix it right now, so we are going to try and not drive in rain and if caught in a storm while driving, like before, we will try running wipers at lowest speed as they suggested. First incident was April or may 2024. Most recent incident was July 2024. Sorry I don’t have exact dates.

13 Wiper problem of the 2020 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 04/14/2024

The windshield wipers seize up. On the intermittent setting, instead of wiping every few seconds they sometimes wipe 3 times in a row and then stop in the middle of the windshield sometimes obstructing my view. They sometimes start back up on their own and sometimes are stuck there until I switch to a higher speed and lower speed for the windshield wipers. It becomes a game of trying to restart them while driving while it's raining. It's dangerous.

14 Wiper problem of the 2020 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 03/01/2024

Wipers randomly stall mid-cycle when in use, speed settings are inconsistent and sometimes fail to function at all.

15 Wiper problem of the 2024 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 02/28/2024

My wife and I have been having great difficulty reading the center portion of the instrument panel because the illumination is too dim. We have visited the dealership and were instructed how to maximize the brightness, but it is still not sufficient. The small icons that appear at the top of the center section of the instrument panel cannot be viewed while we are driving, unless we place our head close to the screen. To do this our head must be at the level of the bottom of the front window. In that position we cannot see the highway sufficiently to be “safe. ” we both have good vision. In the past, we have owned over thirty automobiles and have never had a problem seeing the instrument panel. I have discovered that occassionally the illumination of the center screen of my instrument panel is fine. The car’s computer apparently dim’s it without my consent. I drove 60 miles (about an hour) on a California freeway, and for the first 20 minutes I had good illumination. Then it suddenly got to its usual dim state. I have asked several people at my toyora dealership, and they cannot help me. I, therefore, am requesting someone at your offices to look into this problem, and call me by phone to help me solve this important problem. The best way to viualize this problem would be to inspect my auto at my home.

16 Wiper problem of the 2021 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 11/20/2023

At around 0750 am on 20nov2023, the sun roof exploded while turning roughly 15 mph onto an onramp of a highway. Nothing hit the car from the outside. The sun roof glass shattered and fell onto the sun roof cover. Glass could have fallen inside as well as onto me and could have obstructed my vision, causing a crash. No pot holes or noticeable bumps were struck prior to or after the malfunction. Car was at a red stop light for a minute or so prior to the malfunction. The temperature was around 45 degrees fahrenheit when the malfunction occurred. The heat was not turned on in the car at any point. When speaking with the dealership service center, they said no on else has come in with this issue. When doing a quick google search, up to 5 individuals from 2022 have had the same issue with varying Toyota models and years, including 2020 suvs. The car will be taken into the dealership for inspection tomorrow, 21nov2023. No warning lights related to the problem appeared.

17 Wiper problem of the 2020 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 11/01/2023

The wipers keep stopping during use. I have to switch speeds to get it running again. Very dangerous when raining.

18 Wiper problem of the 2003 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 06/05/2023

I was driving as usual and suddenly the air bags exploded inside the dash causing damage to the passenger window and the front crystal. Seconds after the drivers airbag also opened and consequently the alarms. I did not impact anything and the car won’t start again.

19 Wiper problem of the 2023 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 05/24/2023

Problem 1 there is insufficient visibility of the road at night to drive the car safely. The local police officer helped me measure the distance of road visibility from the front of the car and it was 78 feet. At night with the lights on the top 3/4 of the windshield appears black (opaque) - cannot be seen through. I can only see through the bottom 1/4 of the windshield (left to right, the whole width). Problem 2 the transmission had to be replaced. Problem 3 the computer console only connects to the cell phone 25% of the time. This prevents the ability to use gps and emergency phone calling while driving. Toyota said there is no problem with the visibility, that the police is incorrect, and there is a known defect with the computer connecting to android phones (after they insisted it was fine). I've been a wreck over this - I don't feel safe driving the car, and can't drive it at night. Toyota has said there's nothing they are planning to do to address these issues, except perphaps there will be software fix for the console/phone connection problem someday. Fyi I have all the repair documents but didn't know how to scan/upload them here. So let me know if you need these, and perhaps some other way I could get them to you. If there is an email address I could send pictures of them. Or you could obtain these from lexington Toyota (lexington MA). There was also a driving video at nighttime, and I have a video/audio of the transmission womp womp noise, but didn't know how to get those to you either.

20 Wiper problem of the 2023 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 05/23/2023

Low beam headlights have shadows that prevent me from seeing all roadway at night. Vehicle has presented at the dealership in 6/07/23, but they failed to correct this potentially safety hazard issue. The issue did cause me to hit a piece of wood in the hyw causing an accident with a result of 2 damage tires and 1ring. I will present the vehicle again in 10-11 -23, but in advance one of the guys told me. Is something that they don't have nothing to do because is something normal in some Corolla. That alert me to start my investigation. Now I can see, I don't are the only one with this problem. Is a new car.

21 Wiper problem of the 2023 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 05/10/2023

The windshield on the 2023 Toyota Corolla hybrid le cracked with no outside forces causing the crack. The vehicle was inspected by Toyota and they assumed that it was caused by a point of impact, but the crack appeared overnight, randomly, while my car was parked in my garage, and it split across half the windshield. There is a small point in the windshield that the vehicle is available for inspection by the nthsa as needed, but this is a problem that should be assessed to consider a recall because of the danger of weak windshields.

22 Wiper problem of the 2015 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 04/28/2023

As my husband + I were driving home on the open highway Friday night (no vehicles nearby, nor debris on the road)…we heard popping/shattering sounds. As my husband (who was driving) looked up, it rained sunroof glass shards all over our faces, eyes, hair, back seat, front seat…everywhere. This was completely out of the blue, no warning lights or anything out of the ordinary. Minus the fact that the sunroof literally shattered and we’ve never had not one issue with our car. It’s been amazing for the entire time we’ve had it, so this was extremely bizarre. We pulled over immediately at a rest stop close to where we were to assess everything. I have photos and videos of the sunroof damage, as well as debris + bloody cuts on my head. It’s a good thing we didn’t have kids in the back + a miracle it didn’t drive us off the road because I had glass powder/shards in my eyes etc. We could have gotten into a way worse accident had my husband not have had his glasses on to protect his eyes. I did some research + it looks like this has happened quite a bit to car owners over the years. Same bizarre experience of their sunroof just randomly shattering while driving, or even while their car was sitting in their driveway. There is also a class action lawsuit: gamez, et al. V. Toyota motor sales u. S. A. Inc. , et al. , case no. 4:23-cv-00262 regarding their panoramic roofs suddenly shattering. There are videos and tweets all over social of sunroofs shattering like this too. Toyota hasn’r assessed it yet, but I have a call tomorrow with the corporate liability team. Hoping they‘ll do the right thing + loan us a car while they replace + repair my sunroof, including an interior detailing as there is glass everywhere in the car. So disappointed that this hasn’t been a recall/liability issue Toyota has confirmed. It seems as if these bigger corps like to gaslight the car owners into thinking it was their fault or a rock. Very upsetting altogether and extremely dangerous.

23 Wiper problem of the 2022 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 04/05/2023

I was driving on expressway to sharonville, OH on Wednesday, oct 5 2023 and it started to rain so I tried to put on my wipers and they did not work. I tried to see if they were stuck and by cleaning them but still did not work. I could not see that well, luckily I had rain x on the front windshield so the rain would wash off. I called Toyota in sharonville area and they told me to bring it in the next morning. I went to the park and then started the wipers and they started back up again. Toyota in sharonville told me they could do anything unless they saw it not working. This has happen before a couple of times and I reported to elizabethtown, ky where I get my free maintenance for 2 years. They told me the same thing there that they could not do anything unless they saw them not working. I looked it up on a website and it showed they can do a non functional diagnostic/repair which would test the switch, relay and wiring to see if they are working properly. This is a safety problem which could have caused me an accident without visibility to see where I am going. I have about 2 years left on my bumper to bumper warranty and would like this problem fixed.

24 Wiper problem of the 2023 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 03/18/2023

Volume of media from certain apps can't be adjusted. The vehicle says that if media is not playing, the volume can't be adjusted. This can cause distraction while driving and increase risk of a crash. Specific application where this is the case: youtube audio through an android auto connection. Yes it is available for inspection. My safety and the safety of others is at risk, because all Toyota models with this infotainment system function the same way. Drivers may choose to become distracted by their mobile device while trying to adjust the media volume, risking a crash. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by dealer, however it would be very easy for me to do so. The vehicle has not been inspected by any party outside of the Toyota dealership. When attempting to adjust the volume, the volume level will appear as a numerical value in the infotainment screen only if there is currently "audio" playing. If there is no "audio" playing, an error message will appear telling the occupant to begin playing audio to adjust the volume. This becomes an issue when using an app like youtube to play audio. With youtube premium, you can set a playlist of music, videos, or podcasts to listen to with the screen of your mobile device off. However, the infotainment system will not detect the audio the speakers is playing as audio, and will not adjust the volume. This leaves the driver with no choice but to pay for a spotify, sirius xm or youtube music subscription in order to listen to music or media and adjust the volume safely. Reproduction: start vehicle. Start android auto. Start playing media through youtube. Attempt to adjust media volume using the dial or buttons in the vehicle. Error message should appear. Only way to adjust volume is to switch to fm/am radio, play spotify or other app to adjust volume and then resume youtube media (requires touching phone), or don't use android auto and pay for Toyota gps. How to fix: allow volume adjustment at all times.

25 Wiper problem of the 2021 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 01/01/2023

Windshield wipers stop working intermittently. It can be anywhere from 1 second to 15 seconds. It is very dangerous in inclement weather and could be life threatening as wipers are basic safety features. I have gotten them checked out by multiple Toyota service centers and the issue cannot be found. There are many comps into across the internet. Please look into this issue. This has been happening since 30,000 miles. I’m currently at 47,000. It is getting worse and I believe they will fail in the next year at 4 years old. This is immature for a new car.

26 Wiper problem of the 2021 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 12/22/2022

Came out and windshield was cracked. Toyota makes defective cheap windshields.

27 Wiper problem of the 2016 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 09/15/2022

The wiring inside of the front doors became corroded on two different cars. This resulted in the inability to operate the electric windows of one car. I view this as a safety hazard as the ability to exit the car from the window in an emergency is impaired. Other tasks such as paying tolls is made risky as the door must be opened.

28 Wiper problem of the 2022 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 06/27/2022

Low beam illumination is not sufficient. Attached picture shows someone holding a measuring tape disappears completely in the dark around 76 feet from the car.

29 Wiper problem of the 2021 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 12/30/2021

I purchased this vehicle new in June 2021. It is the hatchback model. Prior to that I drove a motorcycle since 2015. I noticed right at the beginning that the headlights don't illuminate far enough ahead at night for what I consider safe. My ability to see off into the distance ahead of the vehicle is far less than what I would get from my motorcycle, which doesn't make any sense to me because this car has led headlights which are supposed to be better. I live in washington, DC and have family in new jersey that I visit regularly. There are two ways I can go. The first is interstate 95 which has a speed limit of 65 but I set my cruise control at 60. When I come to an area where there is no street lighting and there are no other cars around which are helping illuminate the roadway, I am overdriving my headlights. This is not safe. The second route is taking route 50 to the annapolis bay bridge, then getting on route 301 north towards middletown, delaware and then new castle, delaware, over the delaware memorial bridge and then route 295 towards burlington county where my family lives. Route 50 is 65 mph until you get to annapolis where its reduced to 55, then stays 55mph all the way to route 301, and then route 301 is 55 mph, until the delaware memorial bridge. When I get to route 301 north there is very little other lighting on the road other than my headlights. There are far fewer cars than on interstate 95 so I get very little illumination from passing cars. Even if I reduce my speed to 50 mph, I am still over-driving my headlights. There has to be something wrong with how the headlights have been positioned. They are not shining for any reasonable distance ahead of the car. I have gone to the Toyota dealer in bethesda, MD where I purchased it, jim coleman Toyota three times to tell them about it. Each time they have told me that there is nothing wrong with the lights. But I don't know what they did to check them.

30 Wiper problem of the 2021 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 12/04/2021

Glare in the cluster panel during the day. This causes me to not be able to see what is being shown on the cluster panel such as speed, engine temperature, or any other warning lights. I believe not being able to see the speed I am going because of this design error is very dangerous.

31 Wiper problem of the 2022 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 11/28/2021

Soon after purchasing my car, there was a chip and crack in the windshield that had no known cause or occurred when it was not being driven. A couple months after that, there was a rock thrown up getting onto the highway that should not have broken the glass because it did not hit hard enough to typically break the glass and I also have a glass protectant on my windows. I fear there may be a defect in the glass used for the 2021/2022 Toyota Corollas because my friend with the same car, but year 2021 complained of the same problem. It should be investigated. Now I have to replace a windshield and pay a deductible because it is not covered under the extra services that I purchased for dints and dings.

32 Wiper problem of the 2021 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 08/04/2021

Windshield wipers are not fast enough the motor isn't fast enough to keep up with moderate to heavy rain and occasionally wipers will just stop.

33 Wiper problem of the 2021 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 03/29/2021

The rear back up camera continues to adhered road salt and sand debris that blocks the camera's ability to project a clear view in the dashboard monitor every winter season here in upstate new york from early November through last snow in spring April-may). I addressed with Toyota office ( I 800-331-4331) at least four times and told to go back to the area Toyota dealer as I previously had done that previous 3 years. I get strange looks as to why their going to resolve this safety concern as the maintenance manual on page 240 of the owner's manual states on right top page,: "if diet or foreign matter ( such as drooletsz, snow, mud etc. ) is adhering to the camera, it cannot transmit a clear image. In this case, flush with a large quantity of water and wipe the camera lens clean with a soft and wet cloth. " this cleaning procedure doesn't work in subfreezing temperatures and only causes the water to freeze to this area of the rear hatch area and to the floor or driveway! this is a serious safety flaw having to rely on a dirty camera monitor when backing up which every time I leave my single lane driveway going directly to the avenue I reside. Besides with water and wet soft cloth leaving road grit debris on the camera will further risk to scratching up the view lense cover! so where's the safe solution to this repeated issue every winter now for the 3rd year?.

34 Wiper problem of the 2010 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 02/23/2021

Started my car this morning (36 degrees fahrenheit) and the rear windshield shattered when I put the car in gear to start backing down the driveway.

35 Wiper problem of the 2020 Toyota Corolla

Failure Date: 12/26/2020

The windshield washer fluid sprays over the car onto cars/road behind the car. The washer fluid also sprays into the car of the sunroof is open. Toyota dealership reports that it's operating as designed and did not fix the problem. This is concerning because it could distract the driver behind me when I try to clean the windshield and they could run into my vehicle, possible causing a multi-car crash.
