I stopped at my neighbors house to give her something,I left the engine running when I went in to her house as soon as I went into her house I heard a noise looked out and couldn't see the car,I went out side and the car had jumped in to gear and went into her garage ( the door was open) the car hit her bike, golf clubs there was a 2x4 on a chair the car hit the 2x4 and then the other end of the 2x4 hit her washing machine witch stopped the car. The door was locked so I went home (3 houses from her house) to get the other set of keys the car still wouldn't unlock so I used the the key that is in the remote control to unlock it and shut the engine off. I can't believe the car locked because the keys were in my purse that was in the car. The 2x4 went into the engine and a tow truck had to take it to the garage. I can't believe the car jumped into gear and moved on its own. At one time when we had and oil change my husband told the service manager that when we put the car in gear the car would make a clunk noise and he said they all do that. Maybe they do but I wouldn't think so after what happened.

Purchased vehicle 5/26/14. At first had a popping noise from right rear break; took to dealership stating could find problem, so lived with it. At 10,000 + miles dealer found front breaks warped, so had them replaced. Around same 10k + miles dealer had to drop engine to replace leaking oil found around timing cover area, stating factory install did not allow proper sealing. On 7/22/15, @ 12,748 miles noticed oil leak same area, and informed by dealer that engine has to be dropped for the 2nd time to repair oil leak. Above does not include other issues such as replacing middle row cup holder and front passenger seat recushion. Sounds like I purchased a 2014 Highlander limited considered a lemon. My three previous cars - '06 avalon; '02 4runner; & '90 4runner never had extreme issues, such as the 2014 Highlander.

My 2003 Highlander limited 6-cyl. 4wd vehicle has a loud audible clicking noise (sounds like valve lifters ticking) eminating from the engine since I purchased the vehicle new from page Toyota in Jan '2003. The clicking noise is only present when the engine is running. The clicking noise is always audible but the volume decreases as the vehicle reaches normal operating temperature. The clicking noise is very loud when the vehicle is cold. The clicking noise frequency increases with increasing engine rpm and decreases with decreasing engine rpm. The Toyota red holman customer service representative stated that the clicking noise is normal and can not be reduced or eliminated.
