6 Sun Roof problem of the 2008 Toyota Highlander

Failure Date: 12/21/2007

While driving on highway the sunroof exploded and sent glass fragment everywhere. Fortunately the shade was pulled closed otherwise glass would have been blown into the driver and passenger compartment at 55 mph. Glass was completely distributed throughout the headliner and it had to be removed to ensure glass would not interfere with air bag operation or become a projectile if the air bag actuated. The sunroof is made of tempered glass and not safety glass. When it exploded, the glass was not held captive by the safety film. Only a two inch border of glass remained in the sun roof frame. This is a very significant safety oversight. If the sun roof shade had been open, the driver would have been hit with glass and an accident would likely have occurred.

8 Sun Roof problem of the 2002 Toyota Highlander

Failure Date: 05/18/2007

Driver's side sun visor on the 2002 Toyota Highlander will not stay up. It falls down on a regular basis ,and sometime falls down while driving, momentarily, obstructing my view of the road ahead. Dealerships quoted me a cost upwards of $600, parts only, to replace it, and I didn't and have never used the homelink feature, which apparently was largely responsible for the relatively high cost of repair.

9 Sun Roof problem of the 2001 Toyota Highlander

Failure Date: 04/28/2004

Sun roof leaking even with sunroof completely closed. Seems to be no drain lines from drain holes in sunroof compartment. Water drains into car well on passenger well in front of car. Also have had wind noise coming from left area of car- thought it might be the roof rack. Dealership check out & could not find noise. They also removed left panel of car around windshield and wheel well to look for noise.
