2012 Toyota Highlander. Consumer writes in regards to vehicle windshield issues. The consumer stated he noticed the start of pitting in the windshield that gave off a dark look. The condition became worse, so he took the vehicle to the dealer on November 20, 2014. The dealer did not seem interested in the consumers concern. The consumer believed the pitting was the result of deterioration of the glass due to either inclusions or chemical interaction with normal environmental conditions.

Sunday 8/1/10 the drivers' side visor in our 2003 Toyota Highlander was fine. Monday 8/2/10 when attempting to position the visor it would flop down and hang in a vertical position obstructing the drivers view of the road, you could not bend it back against the windshield. It blocks the driver's view making it unusable and unsafe. I went to the Toyota dealer to have it repaired. The dealer claimed that it could not be repaired and that a replacement would cost over $700 dollars. The attachment is where the problem is. They claimed they couldn't fix it. This is a clear safety issue and I feel that Toyota should be responsible for its repair.
2002 Toyota Highlander drivers side visor will not stay up. This is the second $850 unit in 2 years. It's annoying, not to mention dangerous when it dropped down unexpectedly and blocked my view through the windshield. Between the visor and the hood of the vehicle, I could see about a 2" strip of asphalt about 10 feet in front of the hood. Very very dangerous!!!!!!.

Driver's side sun visor flops downward when in use, instead of remaining tilted forward (toward windshield), thus partially blocking vision. This is a common problem on a number of Toyota vehicles.

We have contacted Toyota about our 2010 Highlander & its defective windshield which, based on conversations we've had with repair shops and Toyota employees, is likely caused by the plastic film pressed between the glass. This defect causes visual distortion and is incredibly distractive while driving and causes eye strain. I spoke to the salesman the other day who now says he believes it is a defect in all Highlanders (we have not seen this defect in other Highlanders ourselves). Toyota corp, despite all of this, refuses to acknowledge the problem nor even meet with us. They simply state it is our imagination. Whenever we discuss the matter with Toyota's service department, they deny it exists. But employees of the dealership acknowledge the problem.

The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Highlander. The contact stated that when he turned the headlights on, he could not see objects on the side of the vehicle. While driving approximately 35 mph and various speeds if he hit a dip or curve in the road, the visibility would drop to less than 2 feet in front of him. He noticed the issue difference whenever he had to use the headlights. He took the vehicle to the dealer and was informed that there was no solution to the problem. He called the manufacturer and was advised to file a lemon law complaint. The current mileage was approximately 3,500. The failure mileage was approximately 60. Updated 03/19/10. The windshield had to be replaced due to hairline cracks forming, the heated seats were not heating properly, the skid control light had illuminated and the dash lights would blink intermittently. Updated 07/27/jb.
Immediately after purchasing our car, we noticed that the front windshield was defective. It has waves, causing vision distortion and headaches. We have contacted Toyota and also had a Toyota corp rep look at it, without us being present, and they simply deny this problem exists. We have compared it with other Highlanders, and none have the same issue. The salespeople acknowledge a problem exists, but Toyota will not fix it.
The interior heating/ac system and fan repeatedly fails to operate properly. In the spring summer when the ac would fail to blow cold and blow heat that wasn't so bad. I got the control knob fixed and all seemed to work fine. However the knob has failed again and when I needed the heat/defrost fan to work at night the frost got worse because the knob failed and the heater/fan would only blow cold air. Depending on the season and the position of the knob when it fails this should be construed as a safety issue when it affects the visual clarity of the windshield .
The driver side sun visor (w/ lighted mirror and homelink) on my 2002 Toyota Highlander will not stay up and drops down when driving which is a serious hazard. I understand that this is a very common problem with this vehicle and the cost for only the replacement part is over $700. 00. It is obviously a design issue and serious hazard that Toyota will not address.
We have a Toyota Highlander (2008) which is having safety issues. The passenger seat belt keeps going off. There is nothing in the seat but the bell keeps going off. It doesn't happen all the time but it does it often enough that it could be a safety issue. My second complaint is the window. The windshield keeps chipping when anything hits it. There are several times when I had to replace this window. There could be no other cars around but if something hits it will spider. My third issue is there is a noise that happens when we start the car. Its in the engine and we cant find it. I have taken the car into Toyota but of course they cant find anything. I have had nothing but expensive issues with this unsafe car. I want to know if there have been any recalls on these issues?

Had a rock chip that grew across windshield while I was driving down highway. Had windshield replaced two days later very small rock chipped it. Had chip fixed now 3wks later lines are appearing out of the fixed chip. All repairs were done by safelight and is reported to insurance.
Temp (hot/cold) dial electrical short. Temp setting continuously fails to hold set temp & blows opposite of setting. Fear of electrical fire plus unable to defrost windshield for good visibility. Feel there should be a recall or some help on this item as after investigating I found that one dealership replaced 1,100 last year and has replace several already this year. I wouldn't have a problem except the failed switch can not be replace the whole assembly has to be replaced and that part cost $669. 00 plus labor to install. Being a single mom I don't have that kind of money and truly feel this is a safety issue due to the possibility of fire and not being able to defrost properly.
Driver's side sun visor will not stay up. I had to tie the thing into place in order to see out the windshield and now cannot use it when the sun is at a bothersome angle. Very annoying that a part like this should fail.
2003 Toyota Highlander 4. 0 sun visor on drivers side falls down on its own and will not stay where you put it, when I attempt to push is more towards the windshield it falls back down when I attempt to put it up in its normal position it falls back down and has a tendency to obscure ones vision while driving and there is no recall on this issue although it seems many here have the same problem with this and all the things I am having issues with.
The sun visor on the driver's side will not stay up when placed in the position to block the sun coming into the windshield. It drops down into the straight down position which blocks most of the view through the windshield. We can't use the visor to block the sun, so we have to drive with it shining into our eyes. It isn't safe.
Approximately six months ago I had a problem with my sun visor randomly flopping down as I was driving, and it would not stay in position when I tried to use the visor to block the sun. The dealer did replace the visor under warranty, but advised me that the part cost over $500 due to the "home link" system in the visor. The visor is once again starting to become loose, and will not stay in position up against the windshield. This is very inconvenient because I have to duck down to see under the visor at traffic signals to see when the light changes. I am also concerned that it will soon start randomly flopping down as I'm driving again. One week ago, the dealer agreed that there was a problem with my visor and this time told me that there was a defective part in the visor, which they replaced. After the repair, the visor stayed in position for only one day. When I returned to the dealership, the advisor told me that there was a defect with the visor on Highlanders, and that Toyota had corrected the problem with the new models by installing the home link system elsewhere in the vehicle. The service manager, however, insisted that there was no problem with the visor, and that was the way it was supposed to be. After a great deal of discussion, the service manager finally agreed to order a new visor for my verhicle. My concern is that this will be an ongoing battle with the dealership if the problem persists since my vehicle is now out of warranty and the part is expensive.
The consumer states that when driving at 35 mph or higher, and the rear windows are rolled down about 3-4 inches, its very uncomfortable because it makes a loud air noise. It feels like your ears are going to blow up. The consumer has three kids and is very concerned about this problem.
When both rear side windows are rolled down, sound is deafening. Dealer was aware of the problem, there was nothing he could do. Consumer was told it was a design flaw and that it could not be corrected. To control the noise consumer has to open the moon roof or the front windows.
While driving a Toyota Highlander, that we leased on 01/08/2002, we noticed that the vehicle has a problem: when the windows on the rear doors are lowered, the vehicle makes a very loud turbulance noise and vibration occurs, that makes the vehicle difficult to steer. On 01/12/2002, accompanied by my brother-in-law, we visited Toyota of cerritos, where I had leased the Toyota Highlander, and advised them of this problem. The sales manager dale pogoda, said " they have received many complaints in regards to all of the Toyota Highlanders and it is manufacturers defect, and that all that they are worried about is getting the vehicles off there lot". I have contacted the customer service manager at Toyota of cerritos, crown Toyota's service department, Toyota regional office case no. 200201160431, and followed the arbitration process. They advised us that this is a normal condition of the Toyota Highlander due to the shape of the vehicle. I have driven many SUV's like the Dodge durango, Ford expedition and chevy tahoe's. And none of these vehicles have this problem, I feel that I have a true issue that needs to be addressed before an vehicle accident occurs due to this problem. Thank you for your time.
