3 Car Stall problem of the 2009 Toyota Matrix

Failure Date: 09/17/2018

Vehicle has stalled several times. All instances the vehicle stalls while driving. Problem is random and non-repeatable. I have had the vehicle stall while at various speeds ranging from 15 mph to 55+ mph (on highways or even local roads). Most recent stall was 09/17/2018. Making a right hand turn, vehicle stalled. Turned the ignition off, went to turn back on, stalled again. Turned off, waited for a moment, started the motor and vehicle ran without any further issues for the remainder of the day. In doing reading, I see the engine control modal has been recalled for the Toyota Matrix up to and including 2008 models. I believe the recall should be extended to 2009 models. I have also done some reading that there was overlap between production years of 2008/2009 where parts were used from the 2008 models in the 2009 models which furthers my emphasis to expand the recall.

While driving, the car stalls. Everything turns off and I'm dead on the street, turnpike or highway. I have taken the car in twice, but Toyota has no idea what is happening. Sometimes it does not happen for a while, and then it will start stalling again. I have taken the car in again after stalling on the PA turnpike. This is a major safety issue. 11 Car Stall problem of the 2005 Toyota Matrix

Failure Date: 11/04/2014

While driving the car stalls. Mainly the issue appears to happen when turning. Suddenly, and only occasionally, the car dies while turning. All lights are lost and power steering gives out. Since the lights on the car and the power steering give out, it is a scary issue. We have to put the car in neutral (since we're driving) and restart the engine. Back in 2010 we brought our car in for the 2010 recall where they replaced the part, although we never had a stalling issue then. Our car is still at the dealership being looked at but we were told by Toyota corporate that this isn't an issue related to the 2010 stalling recall, so it would not be covered even if the same part that was replaced during the recall is the one that needs to be replaced again. Additionally, the dealership is having trouble identifying the cause of the issue.

12 Car Stall problem of the 2005 Toyota Matrix

Failure Date: 01/13/2014

The Matrix began having various electrical problems, including engine warning lights turning off and on, airbag warnings, clock and headlights/brakelights turning off and on. We have brought it in to several mechanics for checks and various repairs, to no avail. Most recently, a dealer shop diagnosed that the ecm is likely failing, and in looking at the records from another dealer shop noticed that the ecm was on back order in 2011 to install a new one after a recall, but that a new one was never installed. However, my service records show that the first dealer shop told me (fraudulently?) that it was in fact installed. The car may not be safe to drive, but I have not been successful to this point in getting it repaired. The second shop informed me that the first dealer shop is responsible.

15 Car Stall problem of the 2006 Toyota Matrix

Failure Date: 09/05/2010

I own a 2006 Toyota Matrix with 74k. My a/c went in and out first, thought it was the compressor, then it seemed like I was not quite getting the horsepower I had previously. Then on the labor day weekend the car dies suddenly on the highway (twice), scared the you know what out of me. Been dealing with Toyota in California (not great) but they ok'd it to a local dealer in union city GA,(very nice). They told me Toyota had ok'd putting in a new electronic control module due to recall that I was never informed about. They put in the module 09/08/2010 but tell me that this may not be the correct fix as Toyota have not informed the dealers of which is the current recall fixing module. Then they tell me they are unsure if they will have to change it again because Toyota may be getting a new part and I will get a letter. This does not instill confidence after 4 sudden stalls while moving (two dying suddenly on the highway). I now have to wait until Toyota deems it important enough to let me know there is a problem. What galls me is they sent out a press info thing August 26th acknowledging 3 accidents, 12 days later my 2006 Matrix dies twice on the highway. I could've been killed. They still have not informed me the car owner despite having my phone number, e-mail and home address. Take this recall seriously it is a very dangerous problem.

2007 Matrix bought new, having stalling and puttering engine problems when it had only 67,000 miles on it and regular maintenance. Early April, 2010, car stalled out when I was entering on-ramp to freeway 15 in California. A car almost hit me in the rear as a result. Managed to get car over to shoulder, where it died.
