12 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2006 Toyota Matrix

Failure Date: 03/01/2016

1. Had to change all automatic door locks at least twice at $400 a pop. 2. Had to replace all 4 coils to engine at a cost of $810. 53 3. Had to have my transmission rebuilt do it failing while of i295 on my way home from work. At a cost of 3631. 49 4. After transmission work had to have my transfer case internal sealed at a cost of $711. 55 when we bought this car at Toyota in December 2005, we were led to believe that this car was built longevity or for the long haul with only having to do routine maintance which I have kept up on every 5000 miles as recommended by Toyota. My biggest concern is the transmission cost. Firestone stated that Toyota recommends a transmission service every 50,000 miles but my maintance book says only do that if you either tow, off roading, or dirt roads for long period of the time. I did neither, so Toyota says no need to do service. I did contact Toyota advocate after I had my trasmission done at cottman transmission and they could not help me cause I went to an outside vendor. My car had only 148,745 miles. Toyota says they would not pay for transmission unless there is a recall. For my search on the internet there is documentation that Toyota knew there was a problem with the transmissions failing but did not want to do a recall but would only compensate if there is a recall. I just want to be heard and possibly compensated for some of my repairs that should not have happened. I bought this car because I wanted to keep it a long time and now it is costing me more than it is work.

13 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2005 Toyota Matrix

Failure Date: 12/03/2015

I had to replace my engine control module (ecm) because the engine would loose power and cut off while driving on street. This became noticeable after a rain storm. I was told because my vehicle was a Matrix xrs, it was not included in a recall for the other Matrix models; therefore I spent approx. $1000 in having the ecm replaced. I had all of the same cited symptoms. Please include my engine in the recall so I may be reimbursed. Thanks you.

14 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2006 Toyota Matrix

Failure Date: 10/21/2015

My vehicle caught on fire in my driveway approximately 5-10 minutes after I returned home from from my job, which is 12 miles from my home. It was dark, and the only unusual thing I noticed was one of my headlights was out and the other seemed dim. I mentioned it to my husband and he said he'd replace the bulbs. Within minutes I heard sirens, but I wasn't in a room that faced the driveway and the fire department was already on scene when I realized the front end of my car was fully engulfed. The fire took approximately 20 minutes to fully extinguish and the heat damaged an adjacent vehicle. No one was injured and my home was not damaged. The car was stationary, parked and unoccupied when the fire broke out. The fire department determined the cause as mechanical and their report is pending. A police officer responded but did not file a report after ruling out criminal activity. I do not know what specifically caused the fire but the attached photos show the damage, including to the adjacent car.

17 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2006 Toyota Matrix

Failure Date: 07/14/2015

I purchased a used 2006 Toyota Matrix as is no warranty from a dealer in boise, idaho. The dealer told me, my daughter and her friend that although the car had 175,262 miles on it, he had replaced the engine with a 55,000 mile engine he bought from florida. Apparently the old engine had seized up with the previous owner. The dealer assured me that the car would last me a long time. However, after only six weeks of driving the car the engine quit and stranded me in traffic. I had the car towed to my trustworthy mechanics, who ran the diagnostic tests on the car. I took their repair estimate to the dealer. He towed the car, with my permission, to his mechanic. I have been researching recalls, and found that Toyota Matrix cars manufactured between 2005-2008 have been recalled for engine problems. I don't know if my car was ever recalled, or the problems fixed. My car has the exact same engine as the one in the recalls. Now I'm concerned that if the car does get fixed, it might malfunction again with me driving it, and cause an accident. The dealer won't pay for the repairs as idaho has no used car 'lemon' law. I am a senior citizen on a fixed income. I can make the car payments, but certainly can't pay to have the car repaired every time it breaks down, plus I feel there is a safety issue which concerns me since I live alone and have no one else to depend on for help.

20 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2005 Toyota Matrix

Failure Date: 12/03/2014

Air bag panel light has been coming on and off. The model year is 2005,but the car was made possibly in 2004. The dealer refused to inspect without charge then telling me that recall is for not this model year. The break, when the abs is on in snow conditions, car take too long to stop, keeps kidding. Also engine revs without driver input when stopped or idling. Toyota dealer denied, to be their problem.

21 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2003 Toyota Matrix

Failure Date: 10/01/2014

I was approaching a stop light and all of a sudden the engine started to accelerate; this has never happened before. I pressed on the brake as hard as I could but the brake wouldn't go all the way down and it was very stiff. Since I was going slow I was able to get the car to stop but the engine was revving as if I had the gas pedal to the floor. I decided to put the car in neutral so it wouldn't accelerate while I was at the stop light (the whole time the engine is revving to its max and the brake was stiff; I also used the hand brake. When the light turned red I placed the car in drive since I had to move and the car wanted to take off so I kept my foot planted on the brake this was at full strength. I was able to get the car into a parking lot and then home an hour later. I was driving the car locally so I was about one mile from home. I have never seen a car do this in my life. I did call Toyota about it and they said it wasn't sudden acceleration and said what do you want from Toyota which I thought was extremely rude. I feel if I was going faster say on the highway I would have lost control of the vehicle.

22 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2004 Toyota Matrix

Failure Date: 03/04/2014

I was leaving a parking lot on an incline when the car accelerated without stepping on gas pedal. I applied significant pressure to the brakes and immediately put car in neutral. The car returned to normal operation. This is the third incident of this type.

23 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2003 Toyota Matrix

Failure Date: 01/23/2014

I was exiting on a ramp from the highway. I stopped the car before coming off the ramp on an incline when the engine suddenly revved up with my foot on the brake. I immediately put the shifter in neutral and it returned to normal rpms. This is the second time that this has happened in three weeks.

24 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2004 Toyota Matrix

Failure Date: 01/23/2014

As I was leaving the highway via the exit, I stopped at the end of ramp leading to secondary highway. The vehicle's engine then unexpectedly accelerated while my foot was on the brake. 25 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2004 Toyota Matrix

I placed the car in drive without problem, returning home.

26 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2003 Toyota Matrix

Failure Date: 11/25/2013

I have received several different recall notices from Toyota regarding this vehicle. I have also had several problems with the vehicle since purchasing it. It is currently not running at all and immediately after I paid the vehicle off, things like door handles and interior fixtures began breaking off. I work full time and have a very strict budget which does not allow me to take time off of work to have to take my car to the dealership with every recall notice I have received. I just want my money back. I paid more than three times the vehicle blue book value but I believe it is still possibly worth $3500. 00. Your help would be greatly appreciated in trying to facilitate a deal with Toyota wherein they pay me the $3500 and take the vehicle back. I would be satisfied with that and will not contact an attorney until I get a response regarding this request. Thank you very much and god bless.

27 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2006 Toyota Matrix

Failure Date: 09/10/2013

I was on a steep hill at a stop sign. I had let go of the break to step on the gas because it was my turn to go and my car rolled backwards dramatically to the point where my tires where screeching for a few seconds till I was able to get off the steep hill. This is not the first time it has happened, I usually avoid streets that have a steep hill because this happens every time I'm on a steep hill. I've noticed this has happened for several years now.

32 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2005 Toyota Matrix

Failure Date: 03/26/2011

My car died while I was driving on a Saturday. I called the dealership and told them, they confirmed it was due to the recall on the ecm [1zz-fe], yet I had to pay to have the car towed in. They said they would run test to confirm that was the problem then fix it. 3 hours later they called and said that changing the computer part that was recalled could fix the problem, but they didn't have any - I asked for a loner car since it was not my fault I would be without a car, they said they were not responsible for that. They would do an emergency order and the part would be in on Tuesday - they would call me in the morning. On Tuesday they didn't call I had to call, I had to call multiple times to reach anyone, and they didn't have the part, it was back-ordered and could be up to a few weeks. I again pushed for a loner car, they said they would see if they could authorize it and call me in the morning. In the morning they had somehow managed to find a part, put it in, I was then told that the fuel system needed to be replaced. My car was in perfect condition before this, there is no way the fuel system miraculously went bad at the exact same time that the recalled part went out - it had to be caused by the computer failure. Besides that I was told that the computer part was the only thing wrong with my car. Then they tried to overcharge my by $600 for the fuel system, all the while still not giving me a loner car. In summary my car died on my in the middle of the road, I had to pay for my towing, miss hours of work, be careless for 6 days and pay for a new fuel system all thanks to the recalled part. I should not have to pay for the parts that were damaged by the recall problems.

33 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2009 Toyota Matrix

Failure Date: 01/01/2011

I am the original owner and the car has been using oil like crazy. I replace all 5 qts of oil at least 1. 5 times between oil changes. I have been told that other than an engine rebuild I am pretty much out of luck. The car now has appox 185k miles. The use of oil has been an issue since around 75k. I have done a little research and saw a service bulletin, but by the time it was issued my car was outside of the mileage range it covered.

34 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2003 Toyota Matrix

35 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2007 Toyota Matrix

Failure Date: 12/06/2010

While driving the car on the night of December 6th it suddenly stopped. I waited for a while, and the car started again; after a mile or so it stopped again. The car stopped a total of 4 times before I was able to get home. The next day I took it to a mechanic who indicated that it had a "recall" problem. I took the car on the 7th to the Toyota dealership. On the 8th they confirmed that indeed was a "recall" problem and that they would probably will need to keep the car for two weeks, because they did not have the parts at hand to fix it. I had to rent and borrow a car in order to move around. Toyota should have had the parts readily available and not keep the consumer suffer for their total lack of preparation. I did not get any correspondence from Toyota in regards to this specific recall.
