The morning of 8/24/20, I attempted to start my car. A message appears, "check hybrid system". I found there had been a recall, in 2018, that involves a software issue. I had my 2010 Prius towed to kolar Toyota in hermantown minnesota, on, I believe 8/26/20. They gave me an estimate of $3200 to replace the inverter. I had read about the inverter failure being directly linked to software recall. They said they'd look in to it and later replied to me that, yes, the inverter would be included in the recall and repaired at no cost to me. They said they had ordered the part but my car would not be ready until 8/31/20, at the earliest. They said the part arrived and my car was in the process of being repaired. I contacted them and asked how things were going. The service manager, taylor, told me "for the first time ever we had two vehicles, of the same make but different years, in for the same repair". He went on to say, according to fedex tracking, the part had been shipped but tracking showed nothing else. I asked him if he was sure the tracking was for my part and not the part for the other vehicle. He told me he had no idea for which part the tracking was for. He then went on to tell me we would just have to "wait and see if the part shows up". He went on to say "it could take days or weeks or longer" before we know if the part was coming in. A few days later I called to see if any progress had been made and was told by taylor "the part has disappeared from tracking". I asked him if that meant it had been delivered and was possibly the part for the other vehicle. He basically replied he had no clue. He said we would just have to wait and see, once again. I've been calling every two or three days since then. Sometimes he returns my calls. Sometimes he doesn't. I don't know what to do at this point. My vehicle is a 2010 Toyota Prius.

Prius stalls in the rain despite not being a recalled model. Pcs sensor is aftermarket, pedestrian warning alert noise is offline, suspension is cracked, engine makes creaking noise at low speed turning. I worked for Toyota as a salesperson and they really took advantage of me.

From day #1 these issues were present on 2013 Prius five: lka suddenly stops car over minor car movements ahead, major knocking sounds from engine on cold starts, brake pedal hits floor and suddenly locks up! I now have 20k and hardly drive it now trips skid icon?, bluetooth is erratic, cruise control shuts off or won't turn on when its wet out, drizzles or rains! is my Toyota my mother warning me not to drive in bumper to bumper traffic, avoid rain or snow, not to use electronics or listen to music while driving and if I use the tech in this 36k Prius five its causing me to drive like a 90 yr old with bad eyes and even poorer judgement! it's a wonder why some people hate Prius drivers. . ! the 12v battery dies every few days so I must keep it plugged in. I even wrap my fob in foil at home and keep it as far from car as possible to not wake up the car if I walk by a window close to its parked to avoid power drain. Toyota tells dealer everything is okay? . . . . In what world would anyone pay to have a car like this and tell customers its okay?? I have to drive and other people's lives are in danger! my son is now getting ready to drive and I can't imagine him fighting the controls that Toyota built in to keep him safe! I used to manage a Porsche dealership and raced on many tracks and can drive fairly well and don't like to complain but after my recent issue and research found a lot of common problems with others so I chimed in. .

The 2008 Prius has a digital display. Sometimes when the vehicle starts up there is no information displayed on the screen. Nothing shows what gear (reverse, neutral, forward) it is in. There is no speedometer display. No odometer display. No fuel level display. At the same time that the dash does not light up, I have noticed there is no backup camera or backup lights when the vehicle is in reverse. In addition to the above, the start button will not fully shut down the car. It will cycle between accessory mode and full start when the button is pressed. I have noticed that when the problem is happening the vehicle is also not keeping track of the miles driven while the dash is not displaying - so when the dash does start working again, the odometer is not showing true mileage. After getting the vehicle to finally shut down, I have sometimes had the issue not present the next day at startup. Other times it will last through several starts and stops. I have read online that this problem is consistent with a faulty combination meter. And I feel it is a safety issue.

While I was driving straight in the morning on the highway I heard a huge pop thinking maybe my tire blew out when I went to look my sunroof had a huge crack and my tires were all fine. It wasn't a windy day but I drove a little slower to work not knowing what to do. 20 minutes later arriving later the glass shattered leaving a whole in my sunroof. Luckily the inside sliding cap to the sunroof was closed. I brought it to the dealership and they said something must have hit it but when I brought it to get fixed at an auto collision they said it exploded. From the looks of it, it looks like it exploded to me with the glass pointing up.
I was driving suddenly I started to lose power within few second the car stalled and got an hybrid error and the car went in safe mode the car doesn't go in d only n or p, also the dashboard lighting goes on and off and smoking so I towed the car to larry h miller Toyota corona CA, the manage dustin said this is recall issue and we need to update the software two days later the service agent mrs lorena said we found coolant in the oil and our service tech thinks I have blown head gasket but talking with Toyota manufacturer is covered and I can get rental car too but I need to authorise $2040 year down because Toyota wants to know what cause the head gasket to failed but mrs lorena assured me I 100% covered and I will not have to pay so I agreed two days later dustin the service manager called and said I need to come to dealer shop he wants to show me something so I had to call the base (air force) and get half day off when I got there my car was disassembled except I could see the pistons and the block Toyota tech had rulers and fillers gage and showing me that my block is warped about 0. 008 inch and I need a new engine around $11,000 or used about $8,200 or I can take my car as is without paying anything I told I cannot affords it so I towed the car home, prior to becoming an engineer I was machinest so I sent the head to machine shop for examination the cylinder head was flat and has no crack or sign of failure and made of aluminium if the block is warped the head should be warped too and the tech measurements was incorrect because after cleaning the block surface from gasket debris was flat too so I called the dealer about my finding I was told dustin is in vacation and coming back on 2/12/2019 today is 2/14/2019 and he is not returning my call I took the car running but doesn't go to drive for recall now I have disassembled car. This is 2nd time hybrid issues.

I live in an apartment complex in illinois, and I do not have a garage. I think that some, if not all, of my tires were stolen overnight while I was sleeping. I do not have a car alarm. I bought 4 new and very inexpensive tires today. The tire theft could have happened in my parking lot, or at an auto-body shop like ntb while I was getting an oil change. I think it was the ntb in dekalb, illinois. I am not 100% sure if this is where it happened. I am not sure when it happened. My tires were so bald, that I almost landed in the ditch. Can you please start a dot tire identification number registration form online via your website? it would be easier to track tires bought by honest and hard-working middle-class americans. Also, are all 4 dot id numbers supposed to be the same if you buy 4 new tires all at once? the dot id number is located on every tire approved by the NHTSA. I would upload pictures of all 4 of my new tires if that was the option. Please help honest people save money and time! mc from illinois.

The casing of the brake actuator is cracking. The brake actuator apparently is an underlying problem that Toyota does not want to take responsibility for and fix.
2016 Toyota Prius VIN#jtdkarfu6g3010626 I purchased this car in July, 2017 and I am having problems with a clicking or popping sound under the vehicle on both the right and left, rear and front. I have taken my car in for repairs 3 times and the Toyota repair shop can find nothing wrong. The clicking and popping noise is getting worse and I am very concerned about the safety of this car. I hope for the safety of the Toyota customers that the Toyota corporation is taking these complaints seriously. I also have a complaint regarding the windshield. While driving a pebble hit the windshield and in a and within 5 minutes the line spread and a windshield repair company told me that it could not be repaired. There is a maze of cracks covering the windshield. If the car was involved in a collision, I feel that this would a disaster because of the substandard quality. I have purchased seven Toyotas in the last 20 years and have never experienced these type of problems. The paint on this vehicle is also very poor quality, there are areas where the paint has come off and gray areas appear. I would like to know why there are no recalls and if these complaints are being seriously investigated. I suppose that when lives are lost because of substandard windshields or other problems associated with this vehicle, the national highway traffic safety administration and the Toyota corporation will address these issues.

I was driving on the freeway, about 65 mph, going to work on 06/12/18 at approximately 9:45 am arizona time. All of a sudden I heard a loud bang (explosion) and looked around my car. I noticed in my rear view mirror black glass flying off the roof of my car. There were other cars around me but no trucks or semi's. I cautiously changed lanes until I could pull off the freeway. When I got out of my car I looked at the roof and found that the sunroof of my car was shattered and had dropped into the area below the roof. I could still hear glass cracking and see it falling into the well under the roof area. I had had the inside shield closed so there was no glass on me. I slowly drove to my local Toyota dealership to ask for help. They said that they had never seen this before and that I probably had something hit my roof. I told them that I didn't see anything flying at me and that there were no trucks/semi's around me. Then they told me they couldn't do anything but would help me call my insurance company to file a claim. I did (it took state farm over and hour to figure out where to connect me for a glass claim). I had to take it to a body shop and get an estimate, then get it approved, and get a rental car. Even at the body shop I could still hear the glass cracking. Everyone kept telling me that something must have me but I didn't feel anything when it happened, just the loud bang like an explosion.
I have owned 3 Toyota Prius and since I purchased this 2016 Prius in 09/2016. I have had to replace the windshield twice so far, 1 in 09/2016 and 06/2017. And now have cracked windshield all cause by small rock chip starting in the corners of the windshield. This is getting ridiculous, I have never had this issue with other 2 models or other vehicle I have owned.
I had a very small pebble hit my windshield while driving slowly on a residential street. The initial impact caused several significant cracks running lengthwise and widthwise across my windshield instead of just staring or pitting as traditionally occurs. This is my third Prius and I have never experienced a windshield responding this way. It appears online that this has become a very common problem and it is extremely costly since they currently do not have an aftermarket available. As well as requiring $600+ recalibration. I am extremely disappointed in Toyota. I am concerned that I am going to pay $1500 to get this fixed (since my insurance uses my deductable) only for it to break again due to a minor instance (as many have complained online). My understanding is that the new windshield is thinner/ lighter for mpg. Is this not covered on some sort of warranty or recall? I'm very upset that this has occurred and have always been extremely loyal to Toyota, im at a point where I just want to drive with it cracked to avid having to fix future cracked windshields.
My windshield is constantly getting hit with pebbles and now have two large cracks in my windshield. I am not driving any differently than I have since I have owned cars and I am not sure what the problem is. It might be a design problem or the windshield is not strong enough to take the force of a tiny pebble.
Cracked windshield. New model vehicle w 10000 miles windshield cracked from an impact of a small rock or other on the highway. Never had this happen, 30+ years driving. Very thin and fragile glass and complicated expensive electronic sensors will require 2 repair shops, 7 or more combined hours, and many dollars for the repair. Toyota does not cover the repair, although my car is under warranty and I have purchased a Toyotacare plus prepaid prenium mainentance plan. Aaargh!! frustrated customer! is Toyota going to issue a recall on these lousy windshields?.
The oem windshields that are installed on new 2016 Prius 2 models are clearly not to standard. I have a huge crack across my windshield from a very tiny pebble while traveling at 12 mph. What the heck Toyota??? I was traveling on the 101 southbound in la in a merging lane moving at a pace that joggers could keep up with when a stray pebble cracked my entire glass.
While driving city streets at a maximum speed of 55,on Sunday 4/2/17, my windshield must have been hit by a small stone. I did not notice when it happened. On Monday, 4/3/16, I noticed a small mark on the windshield which I mistook for a bug. I later noticed a small line coming from the "bug" which I mistook for fluid. By Tuesday, 4/4/17, there were "lines" in both directions and I realized that I had a cracked windshield. By Wednesday, the crack was 16" in length. I took my car to Toyota service and was told that they were not responsible under warranty; this is something that was caused by "impact". The car has 8400 miles on it. My concern is with the quality of that windshield. If a small pebble can cause that much damage, it seems to me that this is an inferior product. I have driven for 49 yrs in different climates, through blizzards, hailstorms, and had flying debris hit my windshields. I have had fender benders and been rear-ended. Never have I had a broken windshield. A windshield that is this delicate is a safety issue. It seems to me, that in this world of profit-driven choices, that the windshields are being made cheaper, and therefore less effective in terms of protection. I wonder what would have happened if it were more than a pebble that flew at my car. In CA, it is illegal to drive with a cracked windshield. So now I am in the predicament of getting this fixed immediately. Handily for Toyota, they won't replace it gratis, so it is a nice $1,300. 00 repair job for them. They pleasantly advised me that my insurance would cover the $800. 00 overage of my $500 deductible. With the issue at hand being my safety and compliance with the law, I have little choice. Cheap windshields must create a regular base of repair work for all the automakers who use this particular auto glass. This should be seriously considered in terms of vehicle safety.
My windshield randomly cracked and looking on-line this seems to be a common occurrence on the Prius 4th generation vehicles.
In Feb 2015 after owning the car for a few months, the sunroof exploded on the freeway at a speed of 60 mph. The break was directed up to the outside (not down as if something struck the window). The side windows were cracked so it was not an issue of the heat/cold change or too much cabin pressure. Now Aug 2016, the exact same thing happened again. This time Toyota is refusing to acknowledge there is an issue with the sunroof. In both instances, the sound was loud like a shotgun and extremely startling. Glass could have rained down on me or I could have been startled causing an accident. I do not understand how the sunroof can break twice in the same manner within 1 1/2 yrs owning the car. This seems like a dangerous issue and am concerned that it will happen again. I have pictures but am unable to load them. I also have a video camera in my car to show that there were no other cars near me at the time this happened.
I was driving on a highway in the country, go about the speed limit of 55 when I heard a very loud sound like an explosion or gunshot. I had the cover to the sunroof open and when I looked up I could see that the sunroof was shattered, crackled everywhere, but intact. When I pulled over to look at it from the outside, I could not see any debris from anything that would have hit it. . Instead it appears to bow from underneath and the sides have linear cracks all around. I was not close to another vehicle when it happened either, so I do not see that it could have been caused from anything externally. This could have caused me to be distracted to cause an accident or injury if the glass had entirely fallen through to the inside.

On may 30, 2015, our home burned to the ground. The firefighters are certain the cause of the fire was my 2010 Prius - they know the fire started in the rear of the garage, the only other item in that area was a bicycle. Arson, faulty wiring and accidents were ruled out. Investigations continue, but they have identified an arc between the battery and the relay switch. My homeowners insurance carrier (erie) is trying to decide whether they should expend the additional $1,500 to open the relay switch box to see if they can determine if the arc was the cause of the fire, or a result. From the video footage, it is obvious that the water being poured onto the garage increased the intensity of the fire, which was due to the magnesium battery. Thestarpress. . Read more...
The rubber rear hatch door release button on my 2008 Toyota Prius started to degrade and become sticky in hot summer weather. I originally thought that the latch was sticky and greasy because dealership service people had opened the car with greasy hands, but then the latch button cover became stiff and difficult to press a few months later, when the weather turned cold. This became a real safety hazard when I loaded the car completely full of my belongings on a cold night to move cross-country the next morning, and the door latch was so stiff and brittle from the cold that it cracked and broke, but the hatch wouldn't open. My chains, spare tire, tools, jumper cables, etc. Were all stuffed back there, completely unreachable from the front because the car was full (one of the items was a bed frame, which probably could not be removed without opening the rear hatch). Needless to say, I didn't feel very comfortable starting a 2-day cross-country drive on winter roads the next morning, without access to my emergency equipment. Eventually, the latch button started working again, but it remains cracked, hard in the cold, and gooey in the summer. I am hoping to replace this part as soon as I am able to spend the $300¿500 that the dealership charges for this repair. This latch button is clearly defective and was tested for neither cold (<40ºf) nor warm (>80ºf) weather.
2001 Prius was parked in garage ~6hrs, fire started and smoldered, apparently using up oxygen inside the car. I went in the garage for something else, noticed the headlights were on and opened the car door to turn them off. When the door was opened, acrid smoke poured out, and the fire was given fresh oxygen, and it took off. Windshield cracked from heat, left front dash melted. Fire dept put out the fire quickly, but the car is ruined and the cause unknown. Thankfully no damage to garage, house or people. I had smelled a funny smell hours before, but thought it was something outside, so the fire had been smoldering for some time. Lights apparently went on because the fire/heat had shorted something.

I was driving on interstate 20 with my wife when the sunroof exploded. There are two panes of glass and the exterior pane sent shards of glass out onto the highway. The internal pane of glass stayed in place but some shards of glass fell on my wife and myself. The Toyota dealer says this was due to a crack from debris which hit the car and compromised the integrity of the sunroof. They could not prove or show any mark indicating this as a fact. It was a very scary situation and I feel our sunroof was materially flawed and Toyota should be responsible for the problem.
If my car sits in the sun, on occasion the audio controls - am/fm, volume, power, track selector, etc. Fail to function (they are unresponsive). If the car is turned off, then back on, they work. This is not a safety concern, per se. My concern is not the audio portion not working, but the system design and quality of components. Were these same components used elsewhere in the car? I've only seen this happen when my car has become hot sitting (not running) due to the weather. Usually when I parked facing west and the sun has been hitting the front of the car all day and I leave from work. This hasn't happened in the past 2-3 years because I've kept my car out of the sun when parking. It occurred between 2012 an 2014. I do not have an exact date of when it occurred even though your form forces me to specify one.

This is not one incident, it happens whenever the road is slick (rain, or even sprinkler runoff!) or if I drive over a pothole--the power to the wheels is cut and the engine feels like it is going to stall. It is extremely difficult and nervewracking to drive while it is raining. The most dangerous times that this happens is when I am at a signal, making a right turn I need power to the engine to merge into traffic, and make sure that oncoming traffic is not interrupted. There have been times that I feel like my car won't "go" or hesitates when I need it to go! and if it's this bad in wet conditions, I would never even consider driving the Prius in snowy conditions. I have read that this is all due to a problem in the traction control system. Very unsafe!!.
