4 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2017 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 07/11/2018

About 1 year after I purchased my car brand new off of the lot I started to notice my brakes starting to rub and squeak. If I was going down hill the front of my car would shake. It was terrifying. I took it to the maita Toyota delarship in sacramento. They told me nothing is wrong my pads are still good. I begged them to fix them they replaced my front rotors and break pads. This dealership also performed a engine cleaning and multiple other things they said my car needed at that time running me 795$ this being on July 11th 2018. Then today sept 6th 2018. My starter is out my car no longer starts. When you turn the key all of the inside lights come on and all you hear is a clicking sound. Mind you I also had a chip in my windshield when I took my car in for inspection in July and they placed green check mark's on everything including my windshield being free from chips. I now question the integrity of this dealerships service department. Do they truly inspect and do the work on your car? because from where I am seeing this at sitting here with a year old car in my parking lot currently not driveable I begin to wonder if they do. I should not be having these types of problems with a 2017 Toyota car that was purchased brand new.

5 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2017 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 05/26/2018

I heard squeaking in my brakes at 10,000 miles my brakes were good at 12,000 they said a had 1% left on front brakes. I replaced front pads. I called my local dealer in northridge to complain. They kept on eye on brakes I was fine at 15,000 and at 20,000 miles I had 60% on my front pads. I took in this weekend for 25,000 service I was through to the rooters on the front. Toyota claims it is my driving. Though they tested it they fail to explain how I went critical in $5,000 miles. I have never owned a vehicle with such problems. Brakes are a huge safety issue and I believe that this is not isolated incident.

6 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2017 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 04/23/2018

Brake pads and rotors wore out before 10k miles on a brand new car. Replaced the front brakes because they were so worn out. That is unheard of. Definitely a safety hazard and a defect on the part/vehicle.

7 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2017 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 04/03/2018

My brakes were inspected after owning my 2017 Rav4 for almost 5 months it needed its service because it had18k miles on it. They inspected the brakes and found everything to be in perfect condition, except they found a nail in the side wall of the tire. Fast forward about 2 months and my SUV is being repaired after a wreck and it was at the repair place a week before the woman calls and tells me my car is ready but when they were taking the car apart to fix the front passenger side the brake pad and rotor fell off the right aide and I now need to purchase new brake pads and rotors. My Rav4 has 23k miles and is 7 months old, not one noise was made before the accident only after. She also tells me it's not accident related. I'm now getting the run around from them all trying to get my car fixed. I went to the dealership where I bought it today and the guy over the service department said that doesn't happen so he was going to have to call the woman and see what all is going on because it shouldn't need new brakes and rotors.

10 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2017 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 01/27/2017

I purchased my 2017 rav 4 in July 2017 with 125 miles. At 6,000 miles my vehicle required new brake pads ( the pads were broken in half). Toyota of north hollywood agreed to replace the pads out of courtesy. They blamed it on the way I drive said total person at fault was me. My vehicle now has 34,000 miles this will be the fifth time my brake pads require changing. This is definitely not my driving. I believe the vehicle has a serious problem with the brake system. My vehicle has not been involved in accident.

11 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2013 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 01/01/2017

The brakes never appeared to be right on this car from day 1. They squeek when braking and there's nothing wrong with the pads, shoes or rotors, per several mechanics, including Toyota certified mechanics. Got them cleaned but the problem recurs. If I hit the brakes too hard for an extended period of time, the car begins to shake until I let up on the brake. This happens at any time, on any roadway, while in motion.

12 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2012 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 12/29/2016

I started having problems 04/06/2015 with my brakes grinding and vibrating the front of my 2012 rav 4. I took it in to the dealership and they put new brake pads and resurfaced the front rotors. 42,968 miles on the car. . I was told these new brake pads had a life time warranty on them. . Again Dec. 2016 I started having the same issues so I had to take the rav 4 back in for service and I was told that the brake warranty would not cover the brakes until the brake pads are worn down more. I can not drive a car with my brakes grinding and vibrating the front end of my car when I use the brakes. The brakes are grinding down into the rotors because I was told the rotors where blue. . Which means they are hot. I'm not a mechanic but these pads I'm being told are to hard and they are grinding into the rotors. I was to hear back from the Toyota garage because they where to order these new type pads for my Rav4. I waited a week and never heard back from the garage. So I took the SUV to another repair service to have these brakes and rotors replaced. . The grinding and vibrating has stopped. And I feel safe to now drive my rav 4. . When your having grinding // vibrating of the brakes on your car I don't believe that's a safe way to continue to drive a vehicle. . I didn't even have to drive over 35 miles an hour for this grinding// vibrating to start. It would only happen 50-60% of the time I would use my brakes. . But that's 50-60% of the time to much. The brakes on a vehicle are very important. I made this repair garage give me the brake pads and the rotors. So I did keep them. . I'm not going to be the accident that takes my life "then there"s a recall" on these faulty brake pads. . Being to hard and grinding into the rotors. This is my 5th Toyota and my 3rd Rav4. So I know what they should be driving like. And I never had any of my brakes ever replaced prior to these. .

16 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2011 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 09/01/2015

2011 Toyota Rav4 brakes have not much stopping power. Brake pedal has to be pressed very hard. The brake pads were replaced with other brand (wagner), but still there is the same issue. The braking power of Rav4 is significantly less than the other cars. It feels that only front brakes do the work. Brake performance is inconsistent. Compare to other cars, my 2011 Toyota Rav4 feels like have no brakes. Brake performance of 2011 Toyota Rav4 is poor and inconsistent. When car is parked outside for a week, there is so much rust accumulated on brake rotors, that the car is shaking during braking. Shaking typically disappears after two days of driving, but the rotors are still rusted and pitted.

17 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2009 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 01/10/2015

The alloy wheels of my 2009 Toyota Rav4 are rusted and bubbling. My car has less than 10k miles on it. I think the rusting on the tires is rusting the brake pads and rotors. Despite having less than 10k on my car, I'm told that my brakes and rotors need to be replaced. I could not stop by 4 wheel drive going less than 5 mph on an incline with light ice whereas other cars were able to stop. There's something defective about Toyota's manufacturing of their wheels. Lots of people on various forums are complaining about these rusted wheels. I think its making the cars less safe. Probably contributing to the other problems that led to recalls.

22 Brake Disc Pads problem of the 2006 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 11/01/2006

My nearly new (3000 mi. ) 2006 Toyota Rav4 experienced a sudden total brake failure with all four wheels locking up solidly. An expert from California had to be called in to analyze the problem, since the local dealership had never seen aproblem like this. The probatible cause of this failure was mentioned to me my making a panic activation of the brake pedal which demaged a brake switch located above the brake pedal. The switch, its support bracket, all brake rotors and brake pads had to be replaced and were shipped to the home office. The repair took three weeks. My SUV was returned to me with the brake switch that was supposed to have caused the complete brake failure in the same location as it was before. I informed Toyota that I considered the switch location as a safety hazard as it is in the same location in all 2006 and 2007 Rav4's. The complete report and corrospondence, including pictures , is available upon request. As for my credentials; I am a graduate mechanical engineer, having served on an accident/incedent review board and was a member of the apollo, challanger and columbia investigating teams.
