1 Brake Light On problem of the 2005 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 10/23/2019

None of my brake lights are working I have tried replacing them with new bulbs and they still don't work I even checked to see if it need a new fuse and all the fuses look good. I'm starting to feel like the vehicle has a electrical problem that's causing the lights not to work.

2 Brake Light On problem of the 2019 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 06/26/2019

Electronic parking brake malfunction. The vehicle had not been driven in a few days, it was parked in our enclosed garage. Started vehicle shifted into drive, let of brake and vehicle would not move forward. I then applied light throttle and still the vehicle would not move. I could feel resistance from the rear wheels. I shifted back into park and manually cycled the parking brake switch. Noticed that the parking brake light indicator in the instrument cluster would not illuminate. No audible noise of parking brake actuator functioning. Cycling the parking brake switch did nothing. I tried turning the engine off and back on, this did not resolve the situation. Shifted back into drive and gently applied light throttle, then shifted into revers and applied very light throttle. I repeated this a few times and with a sudden loud clunk the e- brake released and the vehicle moved forward. I then cycled the e-brake switch a few times and it appears to function properly again. Through out this no messages or warning lights were displayed indicating any problem with the e-brake or any system. This vehicle has 2,400 miles on it. It has never been subjected to any environmental contaminates that could possibly cause this issue. It has never been off-road, no exposure to snow, mud, dirt or freezing temps. This is a safety hazard! I have no idea if or when the electronic emergency brake may fail to engage or disengage. I talked to the dealer and there suggestion was to wait until it happens again and have it towed in. This is an all wheel drive vehicle so attempting to winch it up on a tow truck would likely free the stuck brake, or damage the drive train. This is extremely frustrating.

3 Brake Light On problem of the 2008 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 10/08/2015

On October 5 and 6, 2015 my 2008 Toyota Rav4 was in for service at piercey Toyota in milpitas to replace all four tires, front/back brakes and front shock absorbers, a total of $2,000. On October 8, 2015, while I was driving my car back from stanford lucile packard over dumbarton bridge, I have noticed that my brakes would not engage and I could not slow down my car. Just before this event, the abs, vsc, and slip warning lights all came on. The brake pedal felt very stiff and I was not able to do any repetitive pumping of the brake. I called 911 and requested assistance. When the front traffic came to a hold I had to use my emergency brake and my entire car slipped to the left. We almost got hit by the bus behind us. Some good samaritans saw what happened and helped me to get my car off the road. That day, my 9 yrs. Old son and I could have been killed. I request that Toyota investigates/recalls the brake light switch circuit that has malfunctioned. Piercey Toyota in milpitas investigated the incident on 10/09/15. They found c1249 open stop light switch circuit, c1223 abs system malfunction, my vehicle had intermittent brake light switch circuit malfunction. Piercey Toyota replaced brake light switch assembly.

4 Brake Light On problem of the 2008 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 03/01/2015

Abs light, vsc light, brake light and traction control light illuminated causing all systems to be inoperative. After taking car to local dealer problem was found to be bad left wheel speed sensor, harness for sensor and wheel hub that had corrosion on it possibly from living in an area that deices roads with salt. In my research it has been brought to my attention through several Toyota blogs this is a recurring problem around the country. Several people have had the same complaint and the associated cost to fix this problem is expensive. If an owner fails to fix the problem the outcome could become catastrophic in inclimate weather.

5 Brake Light On problem of the 2011 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 01/06/2015

This rav 4 has had two separate instances of sudden acceleration. One time while approaching a stop light, and the brake was applied, the engine started to rev, and the vehicle had "extended stopping distance". Luckily, there was no car in front of us, otherwise there would have been an accident. It occurred a second time while pulling into a parking spot at work. Again, luckily, there was a snow bank in front of the space (and not another car!). The car is a 4cyl. , and cert. Pre-owned. It's scary to think there is this unpredictable problem with the car. Dealer claims they know nothing about it. I will be showing them the 56 or so complaints from this NHTSA site for merely the 2011 Rav4. I haven't even looked at the other years yet! more than 50% of the complaints in here are for this very same problem! isn't it about time for a recall on this dangerous "feature"? how many more lives need to be at risk? or is the govt. Trying to preserve "Toyota quality"? it could be as simple as replacing the brake pedal -- space it further away from the accel. Pedal and make it "taller" so that there can be no iteration between the two. Or, simply allow the brake light signal to interact with the ecm to inhibit any "throttle increase" command to the engine.

6 Brake Light On problem of the 2007 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 08/02/2013

As I was driving home, the check engine, the trac and vsc lights all came on at the same time. I also heard a hissing noise when I pressed down on the brakes. I went to a mechanic to see what the problem might be, but it was late in the day and everyone was closing. He told me it sounded like a vacuum leak in the brake booster and to bring it back first thing Monday (he seemed to think it'd be okay to drive over the weekend). On the drive home the brake light came on and there were a few times where I was afraid I wouldn't be able to stop the car at all. It was quite scary! I was pressing the brake pedal as hard as I could and then it finally grabbed, the car jerked, and the seat belts tightened up around me. I worked today (Saturday) and the same thing happened to and from work, only now I am using the emergency brake to slow the car and I put it in park at stop lights. My next trip will be straight to a mechanic! it seems it is not common for brake boosters to fail and I am learning that other Toyota Rav4 owners have had the same problem, several ending in accidents. This should definitely be addressed by Toyota, as it is a huge saftely issue, and possibly be cause for a recall.

I was driving up my driveway, applied the brakes and did not stop, but was forced forward until I hit my house. I searched for the brakes but could not find them, because the brakes were stuck to the floor. There was no brake light on. Before that the odometer was jumping between numbers (20,17, 54, ect. ). I had my car to the Toyota dealership twice and they could not find anything. I had 5 boys in my house and hit my son's bedroom, someone could of been injured.
