The seat belt warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined that the seat belt buckle assembly was stuck in the locked position and was unable to be released. The contact was informed that the seat belt assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was 58,000.

While traveling at approximately 50 mph another vehicle crossed into consumer's path which resulted in front end of consumer's vehicle colliding with other vehicle. Passenger's seat belt failed to remain locked into buckle, which allowed restraint belt to come loose. Passenger was thrown against rear view mirror as a result of restraint belt releasing. Consumer was involved in a side impact collision, traveling about 45 mph.
