Rear seat seat belt warning and chimes comes up even when no one sitting in the back and no stuff is put on the back seat. It start chiming randomly and even when all 3 seat belts are buckled the chime comes up. It is security risk as the sudden sound of warnings can distract drive when driving and can cause accident. This model of rav 4 does not have option to disable this feature, and cause lot of annoyance when random warning chimes start blaring through the vehicle without any reason and resolution. Toyota is refusing to do anything about it in spite of multiple forums reported this issue with various Toyota models. Nhtsa need to take action on Toyota for this safety issue.
Rear seat belt passenger side would not unlatch, trapping the passenger. This was and is the only time we have ever used this seat belt. It took two people to help get her thru the upper part of seat belt, had to exit over the top of back seat passenger. This life saving mechanism was and is unsafe and could of caused death if in the event of accident with fire. We have owned two other Toyota's. Never any other dangerous life threatening events. Complaint summary: seatbelt failure on 2019 Toyota Rav4. Complaint description: I own a 2019 Toyota Rav4, and the driver-side seatbelt has begun failing. The retractor and locking mechanism are not working reliably. Sometimes the belt won’t retract, sometimes it locks up randomly, and other times it doesn’t lock at all. This is a major safety hazard. I’ve owned many vehicles over my lifetime—older cars, newer cars, even vehicles over 50 years old—and I’ve never had a seatbelt go bad. This is the first time I’ve experienced a critical safety component failing like this. Toyota has issued seatbelt-related recalls on other Rav4 model years, but not on the 2019, even though the symptoms match what others have reported. This failure puts me at risk in the event of a crash, and it needs to be investigated. I am reporting this because I believe this is a safety defect, not normal wear, and it may affect more 2019 Rav4s than just mine.
Unknown - my car system starting alerting me as if I had no seatbelt on (which I did) and said srs airbag malfunction.

A third vehicle coming from the rear failed to slow down and was driving at 55 mph, crashed into the rear of the contact. As a result, the contact rear-ended the vehicle in front, which was unoccupied due to the attempt of a turtle removal from the roadway. The contact mentioned that the seat belt did not retract during the impact. Driving straight on side road. Vehicle entered road by attempting a left turn onto road without yielding to me. I swerved to the left and slammed on the breaks but was t boned by their vehicle. Airbags didn’t deploy and we got a message on dashboard indicating faulty airbag. Also upon impact our seatbelts were released.
After driving for 5-10 minutes, the center console screen stated: “a malfunction in the srs airbag system has been detected. Contact your dealer in order to have your vehicle inspected immediately” this continues to happen on subsequent trips. It only happens when somebody is actually sitting in the front passenger seat. There were no warning signs or symptoms prior to this message appearing. It makes me very concerned about passenger and driver safety and that the airbags may not deploy when needed.
When back seat is empty, car incorrectly detects a person sitting in the back and dings until the back seat belts are buckled. Toyota dealer claims this is a known issue and claims it will not affect which airbags deploy in a collision. This is a daily issue, and can only be addressed by buckling the back seat belts at this time, according to the Toyota service department.

On Saturday [xxx], I was driving my car when the seatbelt light started beeping as well as a warning on the dash saying there was an airbag malfunction. I immediately took my car into the Toyota dealership in roseville, California and Monday I was notified that this was part of the recall for defective airbags, I was also told that there was no fix currently and there wouldn’t be one until March 2026. They said the delay was due to the fact that the problem with high humidity so they were taking care of cars in high humidity areas first and California would be later. Until then they said they would keep my car and give me a loaner which turned out to be a regular rav rather than the hybrid which I own. I told them that was unacceptable that I bought the car for the hybrid feature and they said they didn’t have any hybrids available. I certainly hope I get a hybrid to drive for a year and 7 months! information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
This was a rental car. The center rear seat harness is locked so it cannot be used. Pulling lightly, or with any degree of resistance, will not allow the shoulder strap to be loosed so it can be used. As a result a passenger cannot be seated in the center of the rear bench seat. Also, the cover assembly for the rear cargo area was installed incorrectly so it cannot be pulled out and secured to the slots. It appears this was a dealership prep mistake.

The vehicle was totaled due to a front end collision. The air bags did not deploy, the seat belt did not lock and the emergency alert when in an accident did not work. The driver was trapped in vehicle and unable to get door open, the vehicle was going about 40-45 mph at the time of the collision and the driver was flung forward causing whiplash and a concussion.
My car had a recall regarding the airbags and seatbell and I didn’t receive a letter yet regarding this issues from the manufacturer Toyota. I demand a answer as soon as possible because I’m scare to my airbags can deploy during any trip.
Vehicle take to dealer to diagnose seatbelt warning buzzer and srs inoperative light illuminated. The dealer diagnosed the problem as a defective coolant bypass valve. This seems to be a rather common diagnosis. With the air bag system inoperative, I feel insecure driving the car without this important safety system.
Driver's side rear passenger seat belt keeps getting jammed in the intake storage and hard to nearly impossible to engage. Had it fixed a few times but passengers continue to have difficulty pulling the seat belt from its storage position.

No safety devices worked during accident that cause by another vehicle driver who ran red light. Neither air bags deployed, nor safety belt worked properly during an accident. Due to these mal functions of safety devices, my wife on the passenger seat hit the dashboard badly. She was wearing the seat belt properly which was released later by the er personal at the accident location to transfer to an ambulance.
The driver side seat belt has stopped functioning correctly. It engages just fine, but is very dificult to get it to release. I have to jerk on the belt to get it off. I am concerned that if I needed to exit the vehicle for an emergency, I wouldn't be able to get it to disengage. It started doing this around October 14, 2022. I will be making an appointment with a Toyota dealership to have it checked.
