36 Suspension problem of the 2010 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 07/16/2021

This car was bought for a new driver and we have had 2 separate occasions when she has gotten somewhere and the car wont start. All the warning lights come on, but will not do anything when you push the button. We can jump it and it will start. This is not safe for a young person that could get stranded at random somewhere, and is now afraid to take it somewhere. We have checked the connections and the battery has been checked and is fine. The other complaint is the rear suspension recall. The tires were rotated and now it has a vibration, I was told that because of the recall it cannot be aligned unless things are replaced because of the terrible fix job on the recall. If something is recalled it should be fixed correctly and not be a bandaid job. There should not be a cost associated with a cheap fix that caused more problems. We purchased this vehicle because of reputation, if they are not supporting their product, then it will go and no other Toyota products will be purchased.

37 Suspension problem of the 2018 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 07/06/2021

I had been noticing since November 2020 a strange noise from the rear on the driver side anytime I parked the car, as it goes over a step about 2 inches in height when entering it. I took it to the dealer an explained them that it wasn't just the noise but that I could move with my hands the rear tire on the driver side back and forth. They told me no problem found. Also, that day I did have a wheel alignment done just in case. But I returned days later as it was not balance, the steering felt incorrect pulling right and left. And they tell me that the right front lower control arm needs replacement when the car has been driven 23,062 miles; I replaced it but the steering was still incorrect. I called Toyota (800) 331-4331 a case #210730001337 was opened. I was told to buy 3 new tires to correct the problem, I did it, yet the problem continues. I expected the dealer to do a wheel alignment after replacing the tires yet they lie about and they wanted me to drive away, I refused to do it and called Toyota and offered to pay for it and finally they agreed on doing it free and they found out that the rear alignment was off. Poor craftsmanship of the rear suspension parts for sure. That weird noise on the rear continues, the steering pulls right and left which increases risk of losing control and eventual crash and injury. I do trust the NHTSA to make things right do not be like boeing and the faa.

Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? yes, while driving on the interstate the vehicle began vibrating heavily. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? upon inspection it was noticed that the inner tread of the left rear tire was damaged, worn away and scalloped or cupped. The tire was replaced with a spare, and vehicle driven to the nearest Toyota dealer for service. The damaged tire is available for inspection. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? yes, the servicing dealer informed us that the left rear camber was out of manufacturer specification being -1. 8 deg. The minimum allowed is -1. 7, and the minimum recommended is -1. 3. We were informed that to be safe the vehicle required repairs; however, they were unable. We then took the vehicle to the selling dealer who also found the issue and were unable to repair. Two additional service centers also confirmed the rear camber was out of specifications, and posed a safety risk. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? yes, the dealer stated that a manufacturer representative from Toyota inspected the vehicle. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? safety was compromised as the damage to the tire was severe and hidden. This damage could have resulted in a loss of control of the vehicle. The vehicle remains in the unsafe condition. It is also important to note that the tires were being rotated every 5,000 miles by a manufacturer service center as recommended.

It happens when driving and you feel it a lot more when it's running on local roads. The visibility is bad, the defogger does not work and I have to wait about 15-20 mins or open the window. The tires sleeps to the front when you try steering to the sides ether right or left and the tires make horrible noice and the slip to the front and if you don't brake when the car slip to the front you can hit the vehicle infront of you, looks like they make the steering angle to wide or the tires turn too much that instead of making a turn they sleep to the front and thats too dangerous because it can cause an accident.

65 Suspension problem of the 2010 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 07/16/2019

Installed rear lower suspension arms (non-adjustable rear toes) in 2014 per recall campaign #16v596000. Tire vendor said rear alignment was off in 2016 (when replacing new tires) and could not be adjusted or replaced with adjustable toe due to recall sticker. Dealer inspected toes 2016 and said specs are right and tire vendor does not have right specs. Since 2016 I have replaced 4 tires twice within 50,000 miles even though tires have longer 50,000 mile warranties. The tires have lasted less than half of their expected lifetime. In 2019, tire vendor said rear alignment is off again when replacing tires and can't be adjusted due to recall sticker. This suggests that the rear toes inserted in 2014 for safety recall created a new problem - poor alignment which causes premature wearing of tires. I'm requesting permission to replace non-adjustable rear toes with adjustable ones so that I don't have to keep prematurely replacing my tires.

My mechanic thought it was the struts and replaced them, but that was not the problem. I still have this problem. Please help. My mechanic said that under the car in the rear there is a bar that has a stamp that indicates recall item.
