36 Wiper problem of the 2022 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 08/10/2022

Hello, I am concerned about the windshield on our new Rav4. It was chipped and the glass cracked from the passenger side to the drivers side of the car. Currently we are waiting for the car insurance to cover the cost of repair for the windshield. For safety reasons you cannot clearly see out of the windshield because of the crack. The problem cannot be reproduced currently. The problem was inspected by the insurance company representative (safelite) and we are still waiting on the new windshield because apparently there is a hug backlog there was no warning when the windshield cracked. But seemingly cracked when there was no warning, my wife was driving the car when something hit the corner of the windshield (some rock or road debris).

37 Wiper problem of the 2021 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 07/03/2022

* the sunroof spontaneously exploded while driving on the highway. There were no cars nearby. There was nothing that hit the vehicle, further supported by the glass clearly having exploded outwards. * glass shrapnel could have hit nearby vehicles. If the interior panel was opened to the sunroof there would have been a significant amount of glass shrapnel inside the vehicle, hitting the driver and passengers. * unknown. From other vehicle owners, yes. * no, this just happened an hour ago. * none whatsoever.

38 Wiper problem of the 2020 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 07/01/2022

Windshield cracked right below windshield wiper on passenger side. No damage prior to crack, appears windshield failed. Car is not even two years old yet. Reading online this is a common failure point for the windshield on the Rav4, but Toyota will not acknowledge it.

39 Wiper problem of the 2022 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 06/30/2022

I purchased a brand new Toyota Rav4 hybrid xle on June 30, 2022 and on my first drive, 6. 4 miles from the dealership to my home, the the windshield developed a crack on the driver's side. It is available for inspection. Both Toyota and safelite say they are having supply issues with the windshield and of Sep 1, 2022 neither Toyota or safelite have replacement windshields for the Rav4. The crack affects vision for both the driver and those outside the vehicle. The problem has been confirmed by the local dealer, Toyota of cedar park, TX and by safelite of austin texas. The windshield has not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, amica insurance, or any others there were no warning lamps, messages or symptoms of the problem prior to failure or after the failure.

40 Wiper problem of the 2021 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 04/24/2022

The 2021 Toyota Rav4 has extremely poor right forward visibility and obstruction by the hood and the a pillar. These cars are unsafe. The front hood does not slope down, so visibility is obstructed, and the a pillar and mirrors (rear view and front right side mirror) further obstruct views. I took a photograph of the right front view and 50% or more of the view when looking right is obstructed. These cars should be taken off the road.

41 Wiper problem of the 2021 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 04/10/2022

The windshield started cracking from the bottom (hidden by the hood line) upwards for no apparent reason. Started at 8500 miles 5 months after purchase. No chips or rocks at the point of the crack.

45 Wiper problem of the 2019 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 01/05/2022

The panoramic sunroof spontaneously exploded while driving on the freeway. There was no impact point and the glass is bowed outward. When it exploded it was a very load pop and pressure feeling that made everyone's ears ring. About 2 seconds later small glass particles and glass dust fell down on the driver and passenger. This was reported to insurance company and taken to independent service center for estimate and repair. There were no warning lights or prior issues. The sun roof was in perfect working order and the vehicle has less than 25,000 miles on it. Driving context - 10:30 pm, light rain, outside temp was 38degrees, inside car temp set at 72 with heater on, sunshade was back, radio off, very little traffic on freeway with no road disturbances.

46 Wiper problem of the 2012 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 12/27/2021

Poor winter visibility: this is an issue with this vehicle but also with almost all other vehicles with internal combustion engines. During cold weather the defroster is ineffective until the engine warms up and provides heat. This results in two unsafe conditions 1) warming the engine up while parked, which exposes the vehicle and driver to theft ("carjacking" is an increasing crime in our area) and increases carbon emissions, or, 2) driving the vehicle while the engine is cold and having poor forward visibility. If defrosters were equipped with electric heating elements, defroster heat would be provided almost immediately. I was told that vw provided this feature for several years and it was very effective. The electric heating element could be thermostatically controlled so it would turn off once the engine starts providing heat. Since a household toaster can be purchased for $25, it should not cost manufacturers more than $15 to add an electric heating element to the defroster. Thank you for considering this recommendation. I am embarrassed to admit to the times when I drove while peering through a small patch of clear windshield . . . Reasonably safe for seeing directly forward but definitely not safe for seeing side traffic or crossing pedestrians.

47 Wiper problem of the 2021 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 12/12/2021

I found the moonroof of my 15-day old 2021 Toyota Rav4 spontaneously exploded while sitting parked in my driveway. As the shade that covers the moonroof was open, I incurred minor abrasions from not realizing that the "s**t on my console" was not dust or fuzz, but tiny shards of broken glass that I had already swiped with my hand. There is a large, jagged hole near center on the rear section of glass and the entire moonroof is shattered. Strangely, the glass around the hole is bowed outward as if something was shot through from the inside of the vehicle. Thankfully I was not driving & did not have my kids in the car with me when it happened because there would have been definite safety issues for me, my passengers, and any others out on the road with me. The car was last used about 6:30pm on Saturday, 12/11/21 and not used again until about 11:15am on Monday, 12/13/21. It spent the time not being used parked towards the rear of my driveway, shaded by my house. There are no trees or other possible falling hazards near my driveway and nothing found in or around my car to suggest a projectile/object was involved.

48 Wiper problem of the 2019 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 11/11/2021

The sunroof/moonroof in my 2019 Toyota Rav4 spontaneously exploded while parked overnight in my driveway. There was not any damage on or around that area of my car, nothing above my car. The following morning when I pulled out of my driveway, I noticed a strange sound , retracted my visor and noticed the roof glass was completely shattered in a volcanic like shape. Pieces began to fall as I began to pull back into the driveway.

49 Wiper problem of the 2021 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 11/01/2021

1. 5th generation Rav4 le hybrid does not allow adjustment of intermittent wiper intervals that constitutes safety hazard. Every single vehicle on the road has had this feature for decades, its absence constitutes negligence on Toyota's part. 2. Traditional and intuitive industry standard cruise control lever with push-button switch has been replaced with counter-intuitive button controls that distract attention and can hardly be operated without having looked at them.

51 Wiper problem of the 2017 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 09/08/2021

While operating the vehicle all front headlamps failed simultaneously leaving me in the dark. Dealer next day found both front headlamp bulbs had both low and high beam filaments burned out! this may have been a catastrophic accident but for my fog lights. How can anyone feel safe in a vehicle in which all lights might fail while driving unlit curvy roadways?.

53 Wiper problem of the 2021 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 08/05/2021

Defective windshield, visible distortion, is available for inspection. (brand new vehicle) safety hazard to drive as I can't see properly through it, everything is blurry. Eyes can't focus - like looking through someone else's glasses! makes me physically ill as well due to the continued eye fatigue/strain. I"m not sure it's even possible to drive it more than half an hour, I wouldn't risk it. Problem is confirmed by the dealer, both technicians that inspected said distortion is visible. Dealer said won't fix because "every rav currently on the lot has a defective windshield, most worse than yours"! was told this was not their first complaint about the bad windshields. And if they did fix it I could end up worse off, because all the windshields are coming out defective currently, some with even worse "visible waves" in the glass. I had ordered the vehicle & put a deposit on it to hold, I didn't get to drive it till the paperwork was done and I was driving off the lot. Within 20 minutes problem was apparent.

54 Wiper problem of the 2021 Toyota RAV4

55 Wiper problem of the 2021 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 05/31/2021

Windshield crack sitting in parking lot, nothing hit it( I. E. No rocks, no chips, no nothing). It broke randomly, radiating out from the bottom edge near wiper toward center of windshield. Yes, available for inspection upon request could have happened when driving. It has not yet been confirmed by dealer (pending), insurance, or other third party the new vehicle was only 5 weeks old.

56 Wiper problem of the 2018 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 03/28/2021

The evening of Sunday, March 28th, 2021 I was driving on interstate 84 in idaho near wendell, at approximately 83 mph when the sunroof of my 2018 Rav4 exploded without any warning. Luckily the shade panel was drawn, so no glass debris went into the car. My husband was in the passenger seat, and our 16 yr old daughter was sitting behind him. When I first heard the explosion, I thought we had a tire blowout, but I didn't feel a pull on the steering wheel. My next thought was that the RV next to me had a blowout, but they kept on driving. We could hear a lot of wind coming from the sunroof, so I pulled over at the next exit, which was close, and assessed the situation. The sunroof was gone! the remaining glass around the edges was all cracked and curved upwards, so it was obvious that it had exploded from the inside out. There was also a lot of glass debris inside the shade panel. Nobody pulled over and approached us, so we don't believe there were any eye witnesses. We were on our way home to boise after spending spring break in utah. We continued driving the remaining 2 hrs. Home, with my husband holding the shade panel closed, since we were afraid it my get sucked out. The wind was pretty deafening. The weather conditions at the time were clear and sunny, with strong winds. We were not aware of any flying debris, nor did we hear anything hit the car before the explosion.

58 Wiper problem of the 2016 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 02/24/2021

I had a significant car accident in 2020 and luckily only broke my thumb. I was rear ended. The car I had at the time was a brand new Toyota Rav4, which luckily did have side airbags and they deployed appropriately. However, I have since had the opportunity to drive other vehicles and would like to ensure the safety of myself and others on the road whether the car be foreign or domestic. Please see the following requests: 1. Toyota's electronics freeze intermittently. This is not the first Toyota Rav4 that I have had and it seems to have done this in the majority of them (2/3). This is dangerous as it can become a distraction to the driver if not familiar with this abnormality. The backup camera also variously changes it's functions, preferences, and layout. 2. The navigation system has to be updated by a chip instead of updated wirelessly. 3. It is not an electric vehicle. 4. I should not have to pay for gasoline or electricity if the sun can be used as a fuel source. Please research the and utilize solar cell panel paint to charge all electric cars and implement that into all domestic and foreign electric cars as soon as possible due to the inflating economy. 5. With full self driving availability please ensure that all cars on the road, whether they be electric or gas, have this capability due to safety issues as well as the extent of morbidity and mortality cases due to trauma patients. I have already emailed you on this problem. Please follow up. 6. Due to the younger generation and their addiction to social media as well as their cell phones, please ensure that there is voice capability within all cars. It may also be beneficial for a camera to be installed inside of the car since the younger generation is so prone to filming themselves. This would also help with liability issues if an accident were to occur. 7. Ensure there is a way to charge a cell phone without needing to plug in the phone.

59 Wiper problem of the 2020 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 02/08/2021

Front windshield defroster is located in the center 1/2 of the windshield, but not on the left or right side. As such, the left and right side of the windshield will ice-over during normal winter snow conditions. Additionally, passenger-side windshield wiper falls outside of the defroster and will freeze over, allowing the wiper to build-up ice that may scratch the windshield. Because of the automatic weather system, it is also possible to ruin your windshield wiper motor from the automatic weather system turning the wipers on to full in an attempt to try and remove the ice. Because the ice never melts, it can't wipe the ice off and thus continues wiping at full-speed. If this persists, motor will burn-out leaving both wipers out of commission. I had this problem while driving on a mountain highway in normal snow conditions. Both sides of windshield located outside of the center 1/2 froze over and became hard to defrost, and the passenger-side wiper had an ice build-up. Seems to affect the 2019-2021 model Rav4 as well as some 4runner models with the same defroster build.

60 Wiper problem of the 2018 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 01/30/2021

1/30/2021 traveling approx 74 mph on interstate in light traffic and light rain (heavy drizzle) and outside temp around 47 degrees. I was listening to an audiobook when I heard a noise like a popping sound and then a roar as wind started coming in the car and what I now know was the shattered glass from my sunroof falling in on me. Shattered glass fell on me and when I moved it wedged itself between me and my seat making it uncomfortable to move for fear of being cut by the glass. It was not a rock the sunroof spontaneously exploded.

61 Wiper problem of the 2021 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 12/31/2020

This issue happened on 12/31/2020. I was driving to work this evening. I came onto an onramp during my drive and I began increasing my speed to 70mph. As I'm accelerating I started to notice a whistling sound coming from the sunroof . I instantly assumed that my husband had accidentally opened the sunroof and had not closed it back up all the way. (we have not had this car very long at all so we are still learning which buttons do what. ) as I pull back the cover I notice that there are shards of glass falling onto my lap from the sunroof. I was in complete shock and pulled over to make sure I was not mistaken. Sure enough the sunroof had shattered and there was glass everywhere. I have no way of explaining how this happened and I am very frustrated that I have to make a claim on a car I have had for maybe a month and a half and even more upset that I cannot explain how this actually happened. I was also surprised that there were people having similar issues with the sunroof!.

62 Wiper problem of the 2020 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 12/13/2020

I bought my 2020 Rav4 le VIN: 2t3h1rfv7lc044778 last Jan. 2020 I noticed the back door glass has a lot of circles coming from effect of suction glass handler these circles become very visible with humidity and cause decrease in my vision to the back of my car specialty at night I can't decide how far is car behind me and totally unsafe. Just fyi I recorded my complain at dealer office 2 times. Then I contacted Toyota and they file case number 2011113329 asking me to give them time to investigate on 12/11/ 2020 at 6:20 pm est I received phone call from case manager her name is martha the phone call is recorded she said after investigations all Rav4 2020 has same problem of circles in hatchback glass door and it comes from the way how the car built and this makes the glass contains a lot of circles I told her this defect in the car because it decreases my vision she said Toyota does not consider these circles a defect its just because the way the built the car. Please help me I paid a lot of money to buy brand new car then surprised with this problem and Toyota consider this not a problem.

64 Wiper problem of the 2019 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 09/10/2020

Driving at interstate speed when small gravel breaks a silver dollar size star shaped crack in windshield on passenger side. Approximately 10 minutes later another object hit passenger side windshield and created another star slapped crack in the glass near passenger wiper arm. Had windshield replaced within 7 days upon returning home. The new windshield which is a genuine Toyota windshield is now chipped in several places. Everything that hots the windshield either cracks the glass or creates a significant chip that interfere with proper vision. I feel the glass is defective. Toyota just said I was unlucky. But a windshield should afford some safety from road debris, that tipically doesn't crack or even chip the glass. If a quarter size rock or larger object hits the rav 4 windshield that I'm driving, I have no doubt that it will burst out. I have been driving for 53 years and has one windshield replaced prior to this one. This Rav4 currently has approximately 38000 miles on the odometer. A shattered windshield is a significant risk factor in any accident. I don't know what would happen if the windshield supplied by the manufacturer proved defective.

65 Wiper problem of the 2013 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 08/20/2020

66 Wiper problem of the 2012 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 07/20/2020

I have a 2012 Toyota rav-4 limited . I have had the vehicle since 2020. Ever since I bought the vehicle it fogs up. All the windows fog up and it does not matter what setting I have it on, DE-foggers, fan, fresh air, ac, etc. Nothing resolves the problem. It is very dangerous as I cannot see where I am going. I cannot use the front DE-foggers in bad weather because it makes the afore mentioned problem worse. I have to put the windows down to see and this remedy is not feasible. I have researched and a lot of other people are experiencing this same safety issue in this model vehicle. I love the vehicle but dread bad weather as it is a struggle to see . Please help.

67 Wiper problem of the 2020 Toyota RAV4

Failure Date: 07/01/2020

My windshield was hit by a small rock from the van on the left lane. It caused a chip but it cracked almost 15 inches across my windshield. I have seen chip from my previous vehicles but it never left a crack, that insurance covered it with no deductible. Other than needing the windshield to be replaced, it needs to be calibrated too or some sensors won't work. That's another $390 plus tax from Toyota service center. I spoke to a representative from autoglass now located at raleigh, nc, that I contracted to replace my windshield, she said they've been getting a lot of rav 4 lately with the same issue. This is so frustrating. I went to the grocery store and spent $20, just to spend $600 cos of a broken windshield. Toyota put a cheap kind of glass that it cracked by a small rock. This vehicle isn't cheap either. Toyota, what can you do for us consumers? this is such a hassle and expensive inconvenience.

Called for tow and they determined it was not the battery and towed vehicle to my house. Paint peeling off vehicle in large patches. Windshield wipers will not work but not a result of latest incident. Wiper motor hums but do not work. Cd player stopped working few months ago. Makes clicking noises but will not play cd or eject discs.

The headlights on my Rav4 are dangerous. When driving at night there is a dark line with no visibility. There is no reaction time if objects are in the roadway. I live in a rural area, on my way to work there was a pine tree that fell across the road way,I crashed straight into it. I did not even see it until I hit it.
