1 Trunk Lid problem of the 2009 Toyota Scion Tc

Failure Date: 02/10/2013

I have had my 2009 Scion Tc for just about 2 years now, back in February I was just doing some grocery shopping, went to open the trunk and the whole trunk release handle fell off,and now is just connected by wires which is a distraction to drivers behind me and also covers the license plate which I'm sure is just cause for me to get a traffic fine. I took it to the dealership where I bought it and they said its not under warranty, even though I have a full warranty left on my car for 100,00 miles. This is an outrage that this part isn't covered for manufacture defects and poor workmanship, this should not fall apart after 2 years, and it clearly should be recalled. . If Toyota wants to keep selling cars, they need to make good on fixing this problem. . My car has a warranty on it so I should not have to pay out of pocket for something that shouldn't have fallen off so easily!!!! poor manufacturing. . . . . . . . And with all the complaints I've read about people having the same problem, Toyota should definitely be taking care of there customers if they want future customers!!!!!!!!.

3 Trunk Lid problem of the 2007 Toyota Scion Tc

Failure Date: 02/13/2012

My trunk latch panel broke off when I tried to open the trunk. I discovered the panel was being held on by a flimsy plastic piece that appears to have dry rotted or something. I have also noticed many Scion Tc models around town that has the same problem. If so many people are having the same exact problem, there should be a recall.

4 Trunk Lid problem of the 2005 Toyota Scion Tc

Failure Date: 07/18/2010

The trunk hatch handle of my 2005 Scion Tc broke off one day when opening the trunk hatch. The trunk handle is needed in opening the trunk. It has an electronic button release that must be pressed at the same time that the trunk is lifted. The handle broke off the car without warning and with only normal use. Upon inspection of the part I and several mechanics (including Toyota technicians) determined that the part is flimsy and of poor design. Toyota technicians also admit that this is a common failure. It is a part used to raise the whole trunk hatch and is mounted to the car with weak plastic. I have searched online forums and have seen many people have experienced the same failure. Although since most had their hatch handle break in the first 3 years (covered under warranty), the problem has not been specifically addressed. It is a problem for those of us that have failures outside of the warranty period because the part has not been officially determined to be defective. I have had the part replaced at my local dealership. I have tried to get the Toyota distributors to determine this part defective, but they deny my claim saying it is outside the warranty. Being covered under warranty is not the issue. I would like this part to be determined defective so that if I or other owners find it breaks off in the future it is replaced by Toyota as it is an essential part of the normal functioning of the car.
