2 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2024 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 08/24/2024

Toyota advertises the vehicle mpg is between 19-22. I am only getting 12 mpg. My low gas fuel light comes on at 10 miles to empty. Engine makes a horrible noise after the vehicle has been driven for 10 to 20 minutes. It sounds like a rattling/old clunker vehicle sound. It sounds like the transmission or engine is going to blow up. Vehicle wobbles when driven over 75 miles per hour. It feels like it is swaying in the rear. I have reported these issues to Toyota on 5 occasions. The first 2 attempts, Toyota told me, could not duplicate/no recommendations at this time. A TSB was issued to fix the rattling sound, took the vehicle in a 3rd time and was told it fixed the rattling. It did not, took the vehicle in a fourth time and was told no recommendations at this time. Took it to another Toyota dealership, and they told me no recommendations at this time. I have had 3 certified mechanics not from Toyota listen to the sound and they have advised me that it is not normal. The mechanics said in order to pinpoint where the sound is coming from, the engine needs to be removed and inspected. But they believe it is an issue with the engine/transmission.

4 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2011 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 09/20/2023

On 09/20/2023 while driving our 2011 Toyota Sequoia 4x4 limited (5. 7 iforce non flex fuel) my wife was preparing to stop at a traffic light. Completely unexpected and with no warning, the vehicle started bucking, the engine began making a knocking noise and numerous dashboard lights started flashing. It immediately stalled while attempting to stop, thus, causing a very dangerous situation, losing total control of the brakes and steering, nearly causing a collision with the vehicle in front of her. The vehicle had to be towed from the middle of the road, while in heavy traffic. Eventually it was diagnosed (at my mechanics shop) and determined to be a broken valve spring in cylinder #7. This caused the valve to drop into the cylinder bore, making contact with the piston, known as "catastrophic failure on an 'interference' engine". . I later learned that these defective ($5) valve springs, are used in my meticulously maintained 5. 7 Toyota motor,. . . The same part number under recall in several Lexus vehicles!! being that I constantly maintained this vehicle and it being in overall excellent condition, I determined it was less expensive to have the engine replaced over repaired. I spent over $4600 in a used motor with 88k miles, and $5400 in labor for the replacement. . Total cost of over $10,000 for a $5 defective part that was only recalled on the Lexus vehicles. I kept the original engine in case I can (eventually) have Toyota corp do an inspection on it and get some kind of compensation on this dangerous, avoidable, selective vehicle recall. No luck thus far but have pictures, invoices and all documents on this situation that I can provide when requested. I am having difficulty downloading these documents to this site. Thank you very much. Richard gustin 845-590-1744 outlaw5225@yahoo. Com.

6 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2008 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 11/18/2022

A valve spring in the engine failed causing one cylinder to fail as well. The failure fortunately happened at low speed and the engine didn't seize. This a known problem with Toyota v8s of this model year and was the reason for a recall of Lexus vehicles with the same engine. Had this happened at highway speed, the engine, we were told, could have experienced a total failure causing the engine to seize likely leading to a serious accident. The car is available for inspection at the moment, but this failure requires a total engine rebuild or an engine replacement which are both very costly and we may have to purchase a new car. The car has not been inspected by Toyota, police, insurance or anyone other than a car service center. There were no warning lights, messages or any symptoms prior to the failure. It was sudden with no warning at all. The car has been very well maintained over the years with regular maintenance done on a consistent schedule.

10 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2003 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 12/21/2020

On 12/21/2020, after running errands, I put my vehicle inside my locked garage at 10:30 a. M. And all was fine. At around 9:00 p. M. That same night, I opened my garage to find it full of smoke. After inspecting everything, I saw nothing was still on fire and waited until the morning to investigate the problem. I first tried to start the vehicle and it had battery power but would not turn over. I then put it in neutral and backed the vehicle away from the front of the garage to open the hood. I saw the engine had burned up from somewhere on the passenger side but had put itself out. The fire cracked the exterior hood, burned hoses, electrical and other areas of the inside of the engine. Black soot had also dropped on the floor of the garage underneath where the fire was. The wood beams inside my garaged were also scorched black from the intense heat from the fire/smoke but luckily had not caught fire. I had it towed to my mechanic who said I should have my car insurance take over. Mercury has not determined the cause of the fire but I am pushing for the exact cause since if it's related to a recall issue, then Toyota should be held accountable and I should be compensated. My vehicle has 37,200 miles less than the average and I have a spreadsheet of all scheduled maintenance, smog checks and recalls completed. There was no reason this vehicle should have spontaneously combusted inside my garage. Luckily, I wasn't driving, wasn't hurt, and no other property was damaged due to this problem.

13 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2008 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 06/15/2020

Good afternoon, during the drive-thru and the car, started to shake, and the engine stops. After that, I contacted the tow-truck and brought it to Toyota dealer. The dealer has finally opened the engine, and the result was the valve spring was broken in half, and the spark plug also melted.

14 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2010 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 02/13/2020

A valve spring broke while traveling on the highway, causing the vehicle to shudder and require a slower speed. I fortunately was not in heavy traffic but had circumstances been different this could have posed a more severe safety issue. Upon researching this problem, I'm finding increasingly more instances where the same issue has happened to other Toyota owners with the same engine. All around the same mileage (117k).

15 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2007 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 12/02/2019

Secondary air injection pump makes a loud vacuum noise on startup as in NHTSA id# 11064285. Four related codes generated on my vehicle and, now, as a result engine light is on. Also impacts acceleration on freeway when quick speed is necessary on entry. Car struggles to get power to accelerate and will not go over 65 mph for passing. Car must be fixed to pass a CA smog check and will not pass with an engine light. Toyota is reimbursing some, but not all models impacted by this known issue. Repairing this issue with the air induction pump costs over $2000. Toyota has a program for 2008-2010 Sequoia models, but not for 2007 models. When seeking a mechanic to repair the issue, mechanic reported he'd seen this issue many times before and received a call the week prior for same issue. Because of the expense, he is telling owners to not get it fixed as the car is still driveable, but without repair, the acceleration and air pollution issues remain. Called Toyota and customer service rep assumed 2007s/my VIN was a part of the related reimbursement/repair program, but they are not. Was transferred to a second tier rep and he said there was nothing he could do since the 2007 VIN's are not a part of the program. When I told him about a case number I'd found in my online research, he looked it up and saw reference to a customer who had the same issue with his 4runner. The 4runners are also not a part of this program, but there have been calls about it. If this is a known issue then Toyota should be reimbursing owners who experience this issue and consumers should be protected from this type of negligence and damage to the environment. Online research shows this issue impacts multiple Toyota v8 models, including Sequoia, tundra, 4runner.

20 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2006 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 04/11/2018

When my frame was recalled and repaired I started having my vcs and checknengin3 light come on constantly and name the truck shakes and is unable to be driven over speeds of 25 unstable and unsafe. Took it to lawrence Toyota and the said it would cost $2175 to repair this problem has occured in 100 of Sequoias and should be part of the frame recall. This vehicle is unsafe to drive and all I want Toyota to do is repair my vehicle as part of the original recall.

21 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2007 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 01/17/2018

Secondary injection pump is making a loud vacuum type of noise. Our own online research leads us to believe that the bearings are going bad in the pump. This noise is very loud when the engine is started. If you quickly tap the gas pedal, the noise goes away for a short period of time. The noise will usually come back on for about another 10-20 seconds and it will go off on it's own. It seems that once the engine has been on for about 30 seconds total, the loud vacuum noise goes away on its own. This loud vacuum noise occurs when the vehicle is in park and also while driving it. In our research online, it seems that this exact problem is why Toyota issued reimbursement offers ("in response to reports of air induction pump assemblies and/or air injection switching valves issues on their 2007-2010 tundra and 2008-2010 Sequoia models, Toyota has decided to increase its warranty on these parts and is even offering a reimbursement if you already had this issue fixed. This is a great relief for owners since it was an such an expensive fix as we reported in April, 2010, tundra and Sequoia $4000 air injection system problem)"!! why did the Toyota motor corp. Leave the 2007 Sequoia's off of this reimbursement list, when they also clearly have this same secondary injection pump problem as all the vehicles involved in that particular reimbursement offer?! why has Toyota motor corp. Been able to get by with this? I've seen online that tons of people have complained about this problem. When this sort of very expensive problem occurs, the government should just mandate that a recall be done. Because of course, Toyota tried to re-nig and not actually reimburse people for this repair. That is not protecting us customers that are now buying these used vehicles that had these problems and previous owners never had it fixed!.

25 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2007 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 02/24/2017

I was told I need a 2nd air inception flow because it is bad. My ball joints are also needing to be replaced as they have been bad and its dangerous, the plastic handle for hatch broke, the arm for hatch broke, suspension swing arm bad, tramsmission misses first gear on and off. I bought this car because I wanted something I wouldn't have issues with and I have had plenty of issues since I purchased it especially with front end. 28 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2007 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 07/07/2016

The secondary air injection pump has gone out. This particular component has a know defect issue with Toyota. Toyota extended the warranty on 2008-2010 Sequoias with the exact same engine as my 2007 but they will not cover my vehicle. If they know there is an issue and they are will to extend the warranty of some vehicles, they should cover all vehicles with the same engine types because they are all going to have the same issue! this repair can cost the consumer up to $3600. This is a scam in my opinion.

29 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2001 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 06/07/2016

The vsc trac, vsc off, brake and abs lights came on and are stay on until the engine is shut down. Sometimes the lights come on as soon as startup. Sometimes when idling. Suspension is very stiff, and steering seems affected as well as engine seems to lug when driving and the lights come on.

30 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2005 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 05/01/2016

Engine warning and vsc trac off lights, I had several issues with these warnings. This is the second time it had happened to my SUV. The last time was on a long vacation trip and it suddenly goes on and the engine starts to go on limp mode, where it slows down dramatically even though the SUV's engine is fine. It was pretty dangerous because we were on a fwy where the speed is 75 mph. We took it in for repair in Toyota dealer and it just need a routine maintenance which cost me $2600 to get this lights off! two years later to this day, the lights went on again and now the same thing, it is going to cost me $2600 to get these light off! this is happening a lot to all 2005 Sequoia. There should be a recall for these. . .

31 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2003 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 04/01/2016

Hello, I have a 2003 Toyota sequioa where the engine light and the vcs lights are both on. I saw on your page some really helpful information on this make/model recall. I've reached out to Toyota customer service because there was a recall on this make/model but they said that my VIN number was not part of that recall, even though it's having the same issues?? the recall was that Toyota had to replace the skid control engine control unit (ecu) and upgrade program logic in its vehicle stability control (vcs) system. I took my vehicle in to get it inspected and they provided me with 3 codes: c1203 - engine control system communication circuit malfunction c1360 - vehicle skid control master pressure sensor malfunction p0420 - catalyst system efficiency below threshold these are all system issues. Can you help me?.

35 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2007 Toyota Sequoia

Failure Date: 03/10/2015

The secondary injection system has failed at 125k miles. Toyota is a aware of this defect and has extended the warranty for this issue on 2008-2010 Sequoia. The 2007 has the same engine and same defective parts but Toyota will not cover the replacement. This can cost the customer upwards of 3k to fix. Customer satisfaction? not so much. Guess I'll put the money into another vehicle but not a Toyota.
