After coming to stop or slowing down, when turning car does not accelerate. For about 7-10 seconds which is a safety hazard when pulling out into traffic. Vehicle has been doing this intermittently about twice a week. Also have had problem with abs light staying off and on since purchasing vehicle. Taken to dealership and unable to find anything wrong. Taken to dealership to fix problem with acceleration but recurred after visit 4 times. Vehicle has 135,000 miles. Mileage is approximation.
Trac off, vsc trac ,engine light came on. . . Trouble code was p1444 (secondary air injection system switching value stuck). . . Vehicle had problems accelerating. Repairman indicated that the air injection pump/check values needed to be replaced and very expensive. Based on other reports it appears that this is a frequent occurrence and vehicles shutting down on interstates. Others have said that Toyota knows about this but won't issue an extended warranty, but offers for newer vehicles . Owned several Toyotas before this. . . This could be a deal breaker for future Toyotas.

While driving at low speeds the vehicle experienced a momentary loss of power and a grinding/vibrating of the brakes while in motion. The trac off and vsc trac warning lights came on along with the brake light. The warning lights and vibrating of the brakes could only be reset by turning the ignition off and restarting the vehicle. It happened twice in the last 12 hours.

The contact owns a 2005 Toyota Sequoia. The contact was driving approximately 30 mph when she attempted to drive uphill and the vehicle would not accelerate. The contact stated the defect was only present when attempting to drive uphill. The vehicle was diagnosed by the dealer and the contact was informed that the air injection system exhibited an internal malfunction from debris that ruptured from inside the air injection system. I was told the vehicle control and stability system was off. And is a common issue with this year make and model. Vsc and trac off light keeps coming on. Also secondarily valve stuck closed. P1445 & p1442 codes. Also another known issue for this vehicle year make and model. Toyota is aware but won't fix after certain miles.
Date and mileage above are approximate. While accelerating on an up inclined entrance ramp to the ben franklin bridge in philadelphia, the engine lost speed and the vehicle quickly slowed. No one was behind me so there was minimal danger. The behavior was similar to snow/ice skid control whereby the engine decouples and the accelerator pedal becomes useless. After about 5 seconds power returned. On 6/24/2014 (mileage 165,400) my brake light came on. I coincidentally had an 5,000 mile service appointment today (6/24/2014) and the diagnosis was a code c1247 - abs ecu (computer) is failing. The mechanic explained that the ecu had failing circuits, or failing solder connections. A little internet research suggested that the unit might simply have logic problems. The mechanic advised that when the brake light is on, all skid control and abs functionality is gone. As the light was on for a short period of time, and is now off I am going to see how the vehicle performs and if safety is effected.

Trac off light comes on and engine light. This is twice this has haapened.
I was driving down the highway and my vsc trac lights came on along with my engine light. When I got home, I looked at my vehicle manual to determine what had happened. I attempted to remedy the problem as suggested by Toyota, unfortunately, nothing changed. Approximately 2 weeks later my brake light intermittently turned on & off. Less than 5 months earlier, I had my all of my brakes replaced, so I can't imagine that my brakes are faulty. I became alarmed by these electronic miscues - so I went online to explore whether this was a common thread with other Sequoia owners. I discovered very quickly that there are many people who have had problems with their vsc / engine / and brake lights becoming activated. I was hoping this problem might be covered under a recall, but it appears that it is not. I am hoping for a remedy that won't have extensive costs to me.
Started car up and put it in reverse all the sudden these lights came on and the bakes now fill funny.
While driving on the highway at 55 mph, my vehicle suddenly decelerated to 20 mph. After exiting, I still could not accelerate above 20 mph. I scheduled an appointment with r&h Toyota in owings mills, MD for Friday, March 15, 2013. I received a call from the dealership informing me it was necessary to replace the secondary air injection pump, but since the part was no longer available, I would need to replace the entire valve assembly and the skid control computer, at a total cost of $4,845. 02. My internet research revealed Toyota is aware of the defective secondary air injection system in their vehicles and as a result issued a warranty enhancement, in response to reports of air induction pump assemblies and/or air injection switching valves issues on their 2007-2010 tundra and 2008-2010 Sequoia models, up to 150,000 miles. I called Toyota to question why the decision was made to not include all model years with the defective secondary air injection system and was informed it was their engineers' decision. No one at Toyota could further explain this to me. My research reveals there are many models for 2005 - 2008 affected by this defect. The explanation for the exorbitant expense was because of a design change and that Toyota no longer manufactures the defective part, owners of vehicles for models 2005 - 2008 would need to replace entire system. So, Toyota apparently acknowledges a defect in their design and its impact on vehicle owners. I cannot afford $5,000. 00 for a vehicle that is only eight (8) years old. Based on my research, there is a large class of Toyota customers affected by this defect. Please investigate and advise.

The skid control computer on my 2005 Toyota Sequoia malfunctioned causing low power/low acceleration. The engine has 65,000 miles. Because this part failed, several engine parts malfunctioned. The engine nearly blew up as a result. Toyota recalled 2003-04 models for this same problem, but has only issued a TSB for the 2005 model. The service department at the dealership explained that my engine would not have nearly exploded had the skid computer not been faulty. I filed a complaint with Toyota, and they explained that this part is not considered to be a problem in the 2005 model, and will not assist in repairing it. The estimated repair for this is $4000.
Slowing down to turn the vsc trac< trac off < check engine<brake lights come on. This has happened three times and I temporarily lose control of braking and excelleration. This is dangerous and nearly caused me to enter traffic in an intersection.

While the vehicle was traveling at about 40 mph it suddenly loses engine power and the vehicle becomes hard to steer. Both the vsc off and trac off lights came on. I had to pull to the side and the car died completely. I turned off the car but could not turn it on immediately. I waited for about 5 minutes and tried again and it started up fine, but after I drove for less than half mile the same issue happened again. It happened a total of 6 times within a couple of miles. Since then it's been happening every few days. Took it to my mechanic but they could not pull a code. Searching online it seems this is a common problem that happened to many 1st generation Sequoias.
I purchased a brand new 2012 Toyota Sequoia. Since I bought the vehicle, the vehicle has had idle/accelerator problems, erratic problems with excessive transmission downshifting, racing, surging, and fluctuation of engine rpm's, making the vehicle difficult to stop safely. When I first purchased the vehicle, the service department explained to me that it was a new vehicle and it needed time,??one thousand miles,?? for the engine to break in. Their initial solution to my vehicle'??s problem did not rectify itself. I have had to return it to the dealership 2 times for repair. They stated that they have confirmed my concerns with the vehicle but it could not be repaired. That it is a design characteristic of the vehicle, that's the way they act, and that it had something to do with fuel-cutting or transmission shifting. He further stated that he forwards his report to Toyota engineers and if there are enough complaints that they will re-write and update the software for the vehicle. Obliviously a safety issue. . . The vehicle has a failed air injection system that causes a reduction in the engine's power output. When the initial failure began there was a loud vacuum sound upon start up and all dash warning lights came on. Over time the sound went away but engine power is still greatly reduced. This poses a very serious safety risk as the vehicle can not accelerate adequately to highway speeds or maintain speeds on an incline thus posing a risk for accidents and as a result possible injury. Toyota was notified of the issue in summer 2012 but stated they would not cover or replace any components related to this as the vehicle was out of warranty. The vehicle was taken to the dealership Toyota scion concord (concord, nc) and a diagnostic test was performed showing a failed air injection system. The replacement cost are approximately $3,500 and requires a service technician to break down the motor to replace the necessary components. With the cost of the system being significant this goes beyond the scope of a basic repair. 2nd generation sequioas (2008-current) also experienced failed air injection systems and Toyota replaced the system in these vehicles but did not in the 1st generation although they share a similar powertrain.

A week later, those light go off and on all the time and it still does it. From what I know, the trac off & vsc trac has something to do with the brake and I don't feel safe to drive in it. Vehicle when on a stop and making a turn doesn't acelerate for a few secons it goes blank then after gets speed. In many ocassion I had close calls with upcomming traffic behind me after making the turn because of the acelleration failure. I called the dealer where the car was obtained and they said that there is no recal for that vehicle even when I told them that the Sequoia 2003 was recalled because of the same issue. The told me that they can check what is wrong with it but I will need to pay the inspection plus the repairs. Las conversation with them was 6/27/2014.
I own a 2006 Toyota Sequoia with 49,000. This is my second Sequoia (prior was a 2002 year model) so I am very familiar with the characteristics and nuances of the vehicle. After purchasing this Sequoia, I immediately noticed that while stopped in traffic, at traffic signals, and behind other vehicles, the car would suddenly accelerate and lunge forward moving the car several feet forward. The first couple of times this occurred, I thought I had been rear-ended. I came to realize that it had something to do with a momentary surge in the accelerator. Even with your foot on the brake, it still causes the vehicle to lunge forward. My wife and I have nearly struck vehicles in front of us. I took the vehicle back to the dealership on several occasions during warranty and reported the incidents. Of course we received their standard reply "we could not get your vehicle to duplicate the problem. " when questioned further, we were told that it was probably when the a/c pump was coming on, and it only felt like we were moving but actually weren't, and that this was normal. Would make sense, but the vehicle does this with both the a/c on and the a/c off though I must admit it seems to do it more frequently during the summer months. Plus, this never happened with my previous Sequoia. Also, it is not our imagination that the vehicle is moving forward. We have nearly struck the rear end of other cars and must now stop 8 - 10 feet behind other vehicles. I looked on line and found numerous other Sequoia owners reporting the same problem, and getting the same response from Toyota. Being somewhat mechanically inclined, I too believe this is an electronic/computer control problem. Even though I am not aware of this particular problem causing deaths, please don't forget us as it is still an acceleration problem, and for what we paid for this vehicle, we are owed better than their lame excuse. While driving our vehicle, the engine suddenly revved up on its own without the accelerator being depressed. No carpet was over the accelerator and the pedal and carpet had been replaced by Toyota already. We contacted Toyota and they did not respond.
