My frame is rusting and has holes in places. Is there a recall for that?.

Despite dealer treatment of the frame in 2014 and an inspection in 2017 the frame rusted through and snapped where the bed meets the cab.

While backing in camper to my driveway after a 3. 5 hr return trip, the back part of the frame which holds the rear bumper and the trailer hitch let go from a rusted frame. See attached pic. I inquired with a Toyota dealer who said my vehicle is out of warranty for the csp from Toyota for rusting frames. They indicated there was a recall that wasn't repaired on my vehicle but I don't recall seeing a recall for rusting frames. They also said this wasn't a safety recall which I have a hard time understanding. If this happened while on the highway and not in front of my house the entire camper would have completely let go from my vehicle. Any information would be appreciated.

At approx 75k miles hood latch popped open. Noticed hood was open while driving on highway. Only the 2nd safety latch was holding it closed. Pulled over to close it but it would not fully latch. Noticed latch had a lot of rust. Did not bother taking it to a dealer or repair shop. Bought an aftermarket latch and easily installed myself which solved the issue. Very glad hood did not fully fly open which could have been catastrophic.

Toyota addressed this issue with the frame paint peeling off long ago but they have not launched a customer support program to solve the problem yet. When we reached their brand engagement center line (1-888-270-9371) and they do not provide a hard or estimated date to launch the repair program. The vehicle was already inspected by round rock TX Toyota service (pdf page) certifying the issue is a manufacturer responsibility. Please take care of this situation promptly.

The frame has failed and is well beyond unsafe for the road due to the amount of rust and decay. The vehicle was part of the 'corrosion resistance compound application to vehicle frame' recall. I will bring the vehicle for inspection ASAP, if requested. There is absolutely nothing safe when a vehicle has a faulty structural issue. When I purchased the vehicle there were step rails and spray painted portions of the frame, the parts you could see. Also, when looking up the vehicle, I didn't see any recall issues at that time and thought it was a good sign. After driving it for 6th months, I started feeling a slight resistance feel when accelerating and turning at the same time. I took it to a mechanic and they delivered the news that the frame was deemed unfit for the roads. I found out that the vehicle was brought in for the recall when it came out and at that time the frame was labeled 'not exchangeable' and a slight bandage was applied to the unsafe defective body component that was sold as 'safe. ' I filed a claim with a local dealership and they told me that it was still safe for roads. Right now, the frame clips and portions of the frame are visibly rusting off, visible from solely walking up to the truck. Reaching out to Toyota I am very much hoping that the care for their loyal customers equally matches the product that they produce, superior to the competition. I have owned a Toyota for 10 years and never considered purchasing anything else for life, however, coming to a fair solution on this issue will have a tremendous effect on that statement I know to be true, right now. This truck is in outstanding condition with very little rust to the actually black body of the vehicle and had only 165,000 miles on it. Please don't allow this vehicle to be absent for the roads due to an issue that was already agreed that it needed correcting. Please allow myself to continue to feel that Toyota makes an outstanding product because they care about the customer.

These vehicles have frame rot. It was addressed in cold weather states with a recall but the recall was not available in California. My vehicle was a California only truck. The corrosion if undressed will result in the frame breaking in half behind the rear left passenger seat. Toyota should have included all states in this recall and there are an abundance of Toyotas manufactured from 2005 to 2010 on the road with this issue that are ticking time bombs. My vehicle only has 145k miles on it.
Paint is peeling around doors on both sides of the vehicle. Both front and rear doors of the cab. Common known issue.

Vehicle: 2009 Toyota Tacoma VIN: [xxx] mileage: 128,400 owner: jacob grove, anderson, SC summary of issue: the frame of this 2009 Toyota Tacoma has developed severe rust perforation that makes the vehicle unsafe to drive. My independent mechanic has refused to work on it due to safety concerns, and Toyota of greenville (SC) has confirmed that the frame is extensively corroded and requires replacement. Background: Toyota previously issued a customer support program (csp) for frame corrosion affecting 2005–2009 Tacomas in northern states, including ohio, where this truck was purchased and operated. In June 2018, the vehicle was inspected at don wood Toyota in athens, OH (91,600 miles). The dealership recorded “no perforation” and did not apply the protective coating or replace the frame. The truck has been minimally driven since (an average of 6,000 miles per year). In may 2024, at 128,400 miles, a mechanic and dealership confirmed the frame has multiple areas of severe perforation, including around brake lines and exhaust mounts. Concern: it is unreasonable that a vehicle frame could go from “no perforation” to “severe perforation” in only 36,000 miles and six years of light use. This indicates either: the 2018 inspection under Toyota’s csp was inadequate, or the frame was already compromised but not properly addressed at the time. Safety risk: the vehicle cannot be safely lifted, worked on, or driven in its current condition. The rapid deterioration presents a risk of frame failure while driving, endangering occupants and others on the road. Request: I am submitting this complaint so that NHTSA is aware of ongoing frame corrosion failures in 2005–2009 Toyota Tacomas, even in cases where Toyota previously inspected and declined to repair during the csp period. This case demonstrates that the problem may not have been properly identified or corrected during program inspections, leaving unsafe vehicles on the road. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Paint failure. Rear drives side door where window seal meets door frame. Dimensions 2 inches high by 3/4 inch wide. No rock chip or other damage that would cause paint to fail. Vehicle is white paint color.

Hi, I had the recall preventive performed by Toyota for rusting and corrosion of the frame. Now, the vehicle is rusting throughout the frame and is very very unsafe to drive. Toyota is claiming that it was a program and not a recall and had no documentation to prove. Toyota performed the recall and now the frame is still at risk to crack and very unsafe.

Customer support program 23te08. The initial notice went out, I need to know a remedy or at least a timeline of events. I'm attempting to trade my vehicle and this paint issue is affecting my trade-in value. In addition to the paint peeling, I've also encountered several random circular areas of dull paint in different areas of the truck. The paint issue needs addressed.
Toyota Tacoma 2006 trd, this vehicle was recalled for rust to the frame on 10/03/2018. The frame was replaced by sheehy Toyota of fredericksburg, virginia. The work was done and completed con 02/07/2019. The vehicle supposedly was thoroughly inspected for any problems by the dealership. Then released to me after the work was done. Then in November of 2019 I moved from virginia to nebraska. Used this truck to move with and pulled a trailer over 2,000 miles with it. Little did I know my life was in danger due to negligence by the dealers service department. Recently I replaced the rear bumper on this truck. By doing this it fully exposed the trailer hitch system on the truck. This is when I clearly seen that a part of the trailer hitch was completely rusted through. When replacing the frame on this truck the dealership had to notice this severely damaged part. Yet they did not inform me of this situation. If they had, I would have had the part replaced, due to the chance of it breaking which could have caused an accident. This is nothing short of pure negligence on the part of this dealership. People could have been severely injured or killed due to this negligence. I have pictures of this part just the way they left it.
Over the years, Toyota has had to issue numerous recalls for their Toyota Tacomas and frame replacements/maintenance required by Toyota due to rust and corrosion. However, Toyota chose not to replace all frames, instead decided to "treat" the issue with underspray. My Toyota, like many others, has received the recalled Toyota undercoat spray to prevent rust and corrosion on a frame with known issues (once in 2015, another in 2019). I have just received a phonecall from my mechanic that my frame is now unsafe to drive and needs to be fixed or replaced. However, Toyota has claimed they have no guarantee on the vehicle and it isn't there problem because it is outside of the timeframe. However. . . This car did participate in their recall 2x. And the recall and work done did not solve the problem or the recalled part: the frame that his crippled by corrosion and rust due to a flaw in the manufacturing process. This is leading to a car that is due for a very significant, expensive improvement that was at no cause by owners actions, or a very unsafe high number of vehicles still on the road with failing frames due to Toyota's inability to fix their root cause issue on their initial recall in order to save a few bucks.
Vehicle was taken to dealer with frame rust, crack and holes. Toyota refused to fix , repair or offer parts to repair.

I went in to get my truck worked on & was told it was not safe. The frame is rusted and cracked. I did not receive a recall notification. Now, I have a broken truck and cannot afford to buy another vehicle or pay to repair this one. This is a safety hazard for the other people on the road and a death trap for the owners with vehicles that Toyota will not stand behind.
The cabin vent system appears to have a design defect, specifically the passenger-side vent located in the back of the cabin. This component is available for inspection upon request. The dealership, santa cruz Toyota, has declined to replace the part despite acknowledging the issue. The concern lies in the vent's design, as it allows water to enter the cabin instead of just expelling air. The water intrusion caused by this malfunction poses a safety risk in two ways. First, the presence of water on the floor increases the chance of an electrical fire due to the numerous electrical wires running underneath. Second, mildew spores can grow on the wet undercarpet padding, creating a health hazard. This problem has been confirmed by santa cruz Toyota, and we have video evidence to support the claim. While santa cruz Toyota has inspected the vehicle, our request for a direct inspection from the manufacturer, Toyota, has not been successful. There weren't any warning lights or messages prior to the failure. However, the issue became apparent after the heavy rains of 2023 in California, when we discovered water accumulated under the passenger-side carpet padding.
There are holes in the frame and the frame mounts. Sold with a clean title.
Frame failure due to rust. Suspension is detached with springs hitting frame. Note: fuel tank partially detached previously due to rusted brackets 3-4 years ago and all components were replaced. Filed NHTSA report at that time however had technical issues completing… still have photos.
We recently went to have new tires put on the Tacoma at costco. The costco technician said that the frame was rusted and he had a similar problem with his Tacoma and Toyota repaired it. He told us that he couldn't install the new tires with the rusted frame and suggested that we go to our Toyota dealer. We went to Toyota direct in columbus, ohio (where we have had the vehicle serviced every time) and they took pictures of the rust and told us they would call us back. Although we have inquired several times, they had not called us back so we reached out to Toyota corporate and they said that the recall/warranty extension had expired and there was nothing they could do. Costco has refused to install the new tires until the frame is repaired. (our problem is not with costco. ) the costco tech did tell us that he was surprised that the rust had not been noticed before by the dealer during regular service as it would not have appeared so quickly. So the complaint goes against Toyota corporate and Toyota direct. . . Why did they not notice any rust while the warranty/recall was in effect or any of the service visits if this is a standard problem with 2009 Toyotas. If the vehicle has a rusted frame, that could be dangerous to whoever is driving the vehicle. In addition, without being able to have new tires installed due to the frame issue, that creates another safety concern with winter weather approaching and tires that need replaced.
My Tacoma has a frame rust issue. I have been told that Toyota did a "voluntary recall" and replaced rusty frames under warranty but that program has ended. This is terrible because it wasn't in an official NHTSA recall, so a carfax says nothing of 5his issue. I contacted Toyota and they are unwilling to do anything. I have been told that my frame can break in half while driving when reading about this issue, it seems like Toyota did not replace all frames. Instead, there was some way based on the state you lived in as to if you could get a frame replaced. My truck was titled in California. Can someone please help me to get Toyota to repurchase the vehicle from me, allow me to trade it in on a new truck, or replace the frame in the same way they had done so in the past? thank you.
This truck is for sale in oregon with holes/rust on the frame and the frame mount. It is being sold with a clean title which clearly with the frame damage it is considered a branded title. The car lot that is selling the truck will no disclose the frame issue when asked about the structure damage on the truck. Buyers beware!!!.
The brakes completely failed on the vehicle. When inspected the main brake line was found damaged due to the frame of the car being totally corroded and shifting of the mechanical structure. If I were not quick in getting the emergency brake applied, we would have had an uncontrolled crash in traffic and could have potentially been killed. There were no warnings or lights that came on in the vehicle prior to the complete brake failure. The car is currently at a local repair shop and can be inspected if necessary. The frame corrosion was so bad on this car that the repair shop was not comfortable even putting it on a lift as they felt the car frame would break.

Where the motor mount sits the bracket below collapsed into the frame itself causing the engine to lower.
Under the bottom of my truck, there is tons of rust. I know a lot of the trucks my year, make, and model has been recalled for rust on the body and other parts of the truck. I was told that a Toyota dealership should replace it with the amount it has, and now a hole has appeared but they only told me a price to fix everything that is rusted. Just puts my vehicle at risk driving it back and forth to work.

Frame is rusted. Lancaster Toyota Mazda body shop recommended the frame be replaced. They will not repair it.
Frame corrosion safety card never been reported to us by mail, I stop by the dealer and they say is expired the recall. I reported to Toyota springfield va. They say this recall is close back in 2019 and they not be able to fixed. Corrosion is extremely serious!.
Toyota has a customer support program for white Toyota vehicles with peeling or chipping paint. The program covers vehicles in blizzard pearl or super white that are within 10 years of their production date. The Tacoma is not listed on that recall. However, I am experiencing the very same issue with my Toyota. I took it to the local Toyota dealer and they confirmed the issue.
My 2014 Toyota Tacoma is experiencing paint chipping in large sections on multiple sections of the vehicle. Primarily this can be seen on the passenger side doors near the windows. I believe there was a recall for this vehicle for years 2016-2022. My request is to have my year model included as it is experiencing the exact same issues as the years already on the recall.
I purchased this vehicle used several years ago. I recently took it in for an oil change and my mechanic advised me that the underside was rusting out. There was a recall for this issue but it has expired and Toyota has refused to do anything.
