1 Clutch Pedal/linkage problem of the 2018 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 07/01/2020

My 6 speed manual v6 3. 5l trd off road Tacoma has hesitations and bucks when you apply throttle in the lower rpm 1000 to 2000 range to accelerate and also has poor throttle response when down shifting to slow and make a turn onto a side street. You have to apply almost 3/4 throttle to get the rpm to come to where you can rev match to the appropriate gear. It makes for a jerky ride for passengers and seems hard on the drivetrain. No dealer fix is available. Clutch pedal also squeaks on warmer days.

2 Clutch Pedal/linkage problem of the 2019 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 04/20/2019

Clutch pedal makes a fairly loud creaking noise upon release in the 6 speed manual trim. Once the truck is warmed up and has been driven a little, while shifting gears and releasing the clutch, the pedal creaks the full length of motion from bottom to top every single press of the pedal. Previous years have had this issue and it is covered by t-sb-0186-12 r2.

3 Clutch Pedal/linkage problem of the 2014 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 01/10/2015

When outside temperature is cold (below 10 degrees f) the clutch pedal sticks for 1-2 seconds at the floor when pressed and released. When this happens, I cannot safely merge into traffic. The vehicle does not respond as I would expect. The problem gets worse as the temperature decreases. At -10 degrees f, the vehicle is almost undriveable. On 2/20/2015, acton Toyota of littleton, MA was able to replicate the problem on my vehicle. Toyota claims to know about this problem but does not have a fix.

4 Clutch Pedal/linkage problem of the 2006 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 07/05/2014

Due to the rusted frame issues that I reported to Toyota on 04/16/2014 (muller Toyota and Toyota corporate) my clutch pedal stuck to the floor when crossing an intersection almost causing a crash when the rusted clutch slave cylinder stuck . There are big rust holes in the frame and Toyota freely admits that they are defective frames , but won't have a recall on those model Tacomas until enough people complain or get injured or killed ! something should be done about these defective frames that rust from the inside out.

5 Clutch Pedal/linkage problem of the 2013 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 03/14/2014

I seem to have an intermittent clutch issue with my Tacoma. When the outside temperatures are cold (below freezing) and the truck has been sitting over night, the clutch pedal is slow to return. I have been having this problem since winter set in here in SC. But until 3-14-2014, this has become a safety concern. I was coming out of my neighborhood and came up to a stop at a stop light which is on a hill. As I was sitting there a moped came up behind me. Due to the truck and outside temperature being below freezing, the clutch pedal was as usual, slow to return. Due to the clutch being slow to return and me being on a hill, I wasn't able to launch the truck fast enough and almost rolled over the person on the moped behind me. With this condition, the truck can be a safety, and accident hazard. It is a common problem on this truck after thorough research. The truck has also been into the shop 4 times for repairs, and 1 time to document the problem still exists after the 3 first repairs. I have been driving manual cars for close to 10 years now, and I have never had a problem with a clutch being slow to engage when its cold outside. Toyota needs to fix this problem before somebody gets hurt.

6 Clutch Pedal/linkage problem of the 2010 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 05/30/2010

The clutch arm on the 2010 Tacoma is so far to the left that it obstructs the footrest. If I use the footrest, my left foot tends to hit the side of the clutch pedal or gets stuck between the clutch pedal and the driver's side kick panel when I raise my foot to apply the clutch. Also, on a long drive, if I try to stretch my leg out while driving, my left foot gets stuck between the foot rest and the back of the clutch arm. It has not caused an accident, yet. But, I have stalled the vehicle on several occasions as a result. The potential is definitely there for a more serious accident.

7 Clutch Pedal/linkage problem of the 2005 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 10/28/2008

My 2005 Toyota Tacoma engine suddenly accelerated. The pedal moved to floor and stayed there. I immediately pushed in the clutch. I checked to make sure there was no interference from the rubber mat and pumped the pedal several times while coasting. After about five seconds, the engine dropped from redline and resumed normal idle. In an automatic transmission this would have been a highly dangerous condition.

8 Clutch Pedal/linkage problem of the 2007 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 05/12/2008

At highway speeds, during upshift from 4th to 5th or downshift from 5th to 4th, with clutch pedal depressed, engine rpms do one of the following: 1)remain constant, and then increase for several seconds before starting to decrease, 2)remain constant for several seconds, and then decrease, 3)decrease very slowly (far to long to execute a "clean" shift). While 2) and 3) are more of an annoyance likely due to poor engine control software, 1) is a serious safety concern in that engine speed (and vehicle speed) continue to increase despite the clutch pedal being depressed. "goosing" the accelerator does not appear to have any effect--the engine rpms wait several seconds before falling. In addition to the safety issue, you also wind up with a lot of clutch slippage because you are letting the clutch out while the engine/transmission are still engaged at a high rpm.

9 Clutch Pedal/linkage problem of the 1997 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 01/25/2007

(1) normal use. (2) clutch pedal assembly/bushing failed, squeaking noise present when clutching. (3) parts replaced ~$250-$315 to repair/replace parts. After replacing, parts lasted approximately 1. 5 to 2 years and required replacement again. No updated parts/recall available from Toyota, was told by several Toyota service departments it is a "common problem". No aftermarket options available.

10 Clutch Pedal/linkage problem of the 2006 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 01/01/2007

On our 2006 Toyota Tacoma 4-cylinder 5-speed manual transmission, which we bought new, when you lift off the gas and press in the clutch to shift, the engine rpm's do not drop as they should, they remain high and even increase. This has been the case since it was almost new. Normally when you shift the rpm should drop between shifts - instead the revs stay constant or increase between shifts. This is not a problem with "unintended acceleration", but rather the throttle getting "hung" when in neutral between shifts. Even tapping on the gas pedal does not cause the revs to drop, they stay high or increase. I originally thought it was a Toyota "feature" to smooth out shifts, but after all the press, I have come to think it is a sticky throttle issue, whether due to mechanical issues (sticky cable, sticky throttle linkage) or electronic issues. I contacted Toyota online several months ago, got a confirmation that they had received the complaint, but that is the last I have heard. I put in a required month/year/date, but really it is an ongoing problem since the car was almost new.

11 Clutch Pedal/linkage problem of the 2003 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 09/01/2006

Clutch pedal bushing is made out of plastic & should be made out of rubber, it wears out & starts to squeak real bad and eventually there is metal to metal contact which causes the whole clutch assy. To fail.

12 Clutch Pedal/linkage problem of the 2005 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 08/27/2006

2005 Tacoma, trd sport pkg, 6 speed manual behind a v6. At about 27k the clutch pedal started making this horrendous squeak. The dealer performed a TSB to replace the clutch pedal assembly. Squeak was gone for about 6k miles but the pedal sticks. Since that first replacement of the pedal assembly, the dealer greases it every 6-8k miles because the squeak keeps returning and the pedal still sticks! they did replace the pedal assembly a second time however now the pedal feels like it is going to fall off and it still sticks. The last straw was when I brought it to the dealer and they told me that it was "excessive use of the pedal, the truck was not made to drive in traffic". What the heck was it made for?? I drive the highway everyday to work and yes, I occasionally get caught in traffic due to an accident, but that might happen once every other week! Toyota corporate was no help, they said I would have to work with the dealer because I was out of warranty. The dealer doesn't return phone calls and I am stuck with a truck that has a bad clutch pedal!.

13 Clutch Pedal/linkage problem of the 2005 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 07/28/2006

2005 Toyota Tacoma (6 speed manual transmission) has experienced excessive transmission noise and clutch judder when starting in first gear since the day of purchase. The transmission has been, at times, excessively difficult to shift and the judder has been, on rare occasions, evident in second gear. Both problems have been intermittent since the vehicle was delivered. On the morning of July 28th, the judder problem was particularly bad and was evident with every start in first gear and sometimes in second gear. It became more violent with each start and at one point, after the clutch pedal was fully released, there was a sudden slip of the clutch disc followed by sudden friction. This resulted in loss of traction of the drive wheels and subsequent total loss of control of the vehicle. Control was regained relatively quickly by depressing the clutch pedal to remove drive power from the wheels and a catastrophic event was narrowly avoided. Toyota has attempted repair of this judder problem three times including a complete clutch assembly replacement at 6,500 miles, but now claims that the vehicle operates normally. The vehicle was returned to a dealer shortly after the incident described above and the shop foreman said again, the vehicle was operating normally. He also claimed that per Toyota's directive, he is not to keep the vehicle unless he has prior approval from Toyota to do so.

14 Clutch Pedal/linkage problem of the 2005 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 12/20/2005

The contact owns a 2005 Toyota Tacoma. The contact smelled asphyxiate gas fumes when cold starting the vehicle. The dealer was unable to diagnose or duplicate the failure. The current mileage is 8,000, and the failure mileage is unknown. There were no warning indicators. The consumer provided a copy of repair invoice. The dealer stated creak sound clutch pedal when depressed and difficulty putting into 4wd, but factory never able to duplicate the problem. Updated 07/06/07.
