The contact owns a 2005 Toyota Tacoma. While driving various speeds, the contact noticed that the clutch pedal was soft. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed that the clutch pedal turn spring was defective. As a result, the clutch pedal caused the clutch master cylinder rod to bend. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the clutch master cylinder rod needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but did not offer assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 80,000.

Since this vehicle had 5000 miles on it I have had clutch issues. Has been in the shop 5 times for clutch issues and is currently in the shop now. The clutch is burning up, thought the truck was going to catch fire a few weeks ago. There has been a TSB on this issue and they replaced everything on the last service. It has failed again with on 3,000 miles on this new clutch. The vehicle is a little over 1 year old and currently has 23,000 miles on it. Toyota is giving me the run a round and now wants me to pay for warranty work. I have repeatedly told them they have a weak design clutch, made for a 2 wheel drive vehicle in a 4x4 truck. We think the clutch slipped so much a few ago it really did catch fire, it smoked for 10 minutes after I turned the truck off. I have filed with the houston bbb and filed with Toyota. I need help.

On July 27th of this year my 2006 Toyota Tacoma had a pressure plate failure that caused my truck to have to be towed. My truck was towed to a local dealership who told me my clutch was burned up and would cost $1450 to be fixed and would not be covered by warranty. I knew this was not true and had my truck towed to a transmission shop who found my pressure plate had failed with no sign of abuse. I had the parts replaced with Toyota factory replacement parts. When the shop received these parts they called me to tell me these parts were a different design then the parts that failed in my truck. After some research I found out Toyota changed these parts and part #s in 2006 after I bought my truck. I found several other complaints of clutch failure on the design in my truck. Even though I have proof of this Toyota denies that there was a part change or problem with my truck and has not offered me any assistance with the $1300 in bills I have in incurred with having to change this part.

2005 Toyota Tacoma (6 speed manual transmission) has experienced excessive transmission noise and clutch judder when starting in first gear since the day of purchase. The transmission has been, at times, excessively difficult to shift and the judder has been, on rare occasions, evident in second gear. Both problems have been intermittent since the vehicle was delivered. On the morning of July 28th, the judder problem was particularly bad and was evident with every start in first gear and sometimes in second gear. It became more violent with each start and at one point, after the clutch pedal was fully released, there was a sudden slip of the clutch disc followed by sudden friction. This resulted in loss of traction of the drive wheels and subsequent total loss of control of the vehicle. Control was regained relatively quickly by depressing the clutch pedal to remove drive power from the wheels and a catastrophic event was narrowly avoided. Toyota has attempted repair of this judder problem three times including a complete clutch assembly replacement at 6,500 miles, but now claims that the vehicle operates normally. The vehicle was returned to a dealer shortly after the incident described above and the shop foreman said again, the vehicle was operating normally. He also claimed that per Toyota's directive, he is not to keep the vehicle unless he has prior approval from Toyota to do so.
While driving at any speed manual clutch failed, didn't shift properly from the first to second gear. Dealer was notified.
