1 Emission Control problem of the 2000 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 06/01/2018

Tl the contact's daughter owns a 2000 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that the check engine indicator was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to auto zone where it was determined that the O2 sensor needed to be replaced. The contact's friend was repairing the vehicle and noticed rust on the bottom of the frame. As a result, the contact's friend was unable to tighten the sensor completely, which caused fumes to enter the cabin of the vehicle when driving. The contact called lou fusz Toyota (located at 10725 manchester rd, kirkwood, mo 63122, (314) 966-5404). The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was 136,000.

2 Emission Control problem of the 2012 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 01/07/2018

Vacumme switching valve and air injection pump failure at 43,000 miles, cost to repair is $2052. 32. This part is part of the emission control system and should be covered by Toyota but is not. When this valve throws a check engine light the truck goes into limp mode and is very dangerous to drive as it has reduced power.

3 Emission Control problem of the 2012 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 09/09/2017

Fault codes p2440 and p2442, powertrain - auxiliary emission controls. Air pump failing at 41,000 miles. Dealer repair cost is $1,900. Vehicle goes in to "limp mode" when started, that drastically reduces power.

4 Emission Control problem of the 2012 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 05/23/2017

My truck's check engine light and trac off light came on and I took it to my local repair shop. The manager told me that after the level 1 diagnostic, a p2442 error code appeared (switching valve stuck). The valves, and air pump are part of the secondary air injection system which diverts some exhaust back into the engine to reduce emissions output. As part of the truck's emergency system, the truck limited the engine operation parameters to about 2000rpm, and about 40mph maximum. Express oil change and tire engineers quoted the parts at around $1500, not including labor. The day of diagnosis, the truck had 72,952 miles and was purchased Nov. 2011. Currently unable to safely drive my truck in normal traffic. Facing a nearly $2k bill, I decided to do some digging into emissions warranty information and found that those parts were not going to be covered by the 8yr/80,000 mile federal emission control warranty as outlined in my warranty and maintenance guide, even though these are a critical part of the system. While online, I read several posts on Tacomaworld. Com where several others were having the same issues. What was more concerning was that this very same issue was very common in Toyota tundra not long ago and the manufacturer extended their warranties to cover the costs because it would appear to be a manufacturer defect. Now, the very same thing is happening with Tacoma but the extended warranty has not been extended to my truck. The service lights have since come back on and the truck is not drivable, I have yet to get a hold of Toyota but because of the holiday, I will have to wait until the morning but not expecting much. Who will pay for my rental car while I'm paying this bill? https://www. Tacomaworld. Com/threads/secondary-air-injection-system-p2440-and-p2442. . Read more...

5 Emission Control problem of the 2001 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 02/02/2010

The contact owns a 2001 Toyota Tacoma. She took the vehicle into the dealer to inspect the frame, which she had observed was slightly rusted. The dealer stated that the vehicle was thoroughly rusted and would not allow her to drive the vehicle off of the lot. The entire frame was replaced under the manufacturer's warranty enhancement for frame rust perforation on model trucks in severe cold climate areas with high road salt use (NHTSA item number : 10027968: service bulletin number : tcs-08-018). After the repairs were made to the vehicle, she noticed black smoke coming from the exhaust, the vehicle was using more gas than before and she could literally watch the fuel gauge moving closer to empty as she proceeded. The vehicle would not idle properly and was exhibiting a "bucking" gesture as if it was not getting enough fuel. While inspecting the vehicle, a personal mechanic noticed that the 02 sensor was hanging from the vehicle and caused the vehicle to exhibit the failures. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where they stated the sensor was in the same place as when she first brought the vehicle. No further repairs were made to the vehicle. The failure and current mileages were approximately 126,000. Updated 4/30/10 the O2 sensor needed to be replaced. Updated 07/15/10.

6 Emission Control problem of the 2001 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 10/14/2008

The contact owns a 2001 Toyota Tacoma. While the contact was driving 15-30 mph the vehicle suddenly accelerated causing the rpm's to redline. The contact turned the vehicle off in order to stop it from accelerating. The vehicle was taken to the dealership where the contact had the idle air control valve replaced at 29,060 miles. There were no prior warnings. The current and failure mileages were 34000. Updated 4/7/2010 the check engine light illuminated. The dealer replaced the mass air flow sensor. Also, the frame had severe rust. Updated 08/24/jb.

7 Emission Control problem of the 2005 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 07/02/2005

The contact owns a 2005 Toyota Tacoma. When shifting from fourth to fifth gear, usually around 45 mph, the rpm would increase. The contact could not determine how much the rpm increased. The dealer stated that the failure was a normal function of the emission control. No repairs were made. The failure mileage was 2,300 and current mileage was 23,000.

8 Emission Control problem of the 2000 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 01/15/2002

At speeds above 35 mph, and on DE-acceleration only, a loud squealing could be heard from the rear of the vehicle. It only made the noise on DE-acceleration. Had to bring to the dealer twice to get fixed. Dealer was stumped and only found a faulty oxygen sensor. That seemed to be the problem.

Failure Date: 09/23/1996

Oxygen sensor failed.
