Toyota Tacoma 1995 body is rusting away, frame is rusting away. Everything on the bottom of the truck has rust on it there is a hole in the floor on the passenger side. Muffler had to get replaced. Break lines had to get replaced due to rusting.
2012 Tacoma with 37,00 miles: while leaving a parking lot and trying to accelerate on to a busy highway, (60mph speeds), truck would not accelerate and "check engine" and "trac off" lights illuminated. Vehicle went into "limp mode" and would not go faster than 35 mph. I had to quickly pull off the road as to not cause an accident. If this had this occurred while traveling at normal highway speed (60 mph+), would definitely be in a wreck due to the sudden downshift and deceleration. I took vehicle to local auto parts store and received the code p2442: secondary air injection system switching valve stuck open bank 2. From researching, this is a known problem with 2012 Tacomas, and had previously been an issue with older tundras, which Toyota issued a TSB for. Toyota refuses to repair this under warranty (either powertrain or federal emissions) even though the failed part is directly tied to the emissions system! the system is used to pump additional air into the exhaust manifold upon startup to dilute the over-rich conditions that lead to increased pollution. (how is that not an emissions related part?) the failure or warping of the one-way check valve causes hot exhaust gasses to backflow into the solenoid, and melting the gaskets. This ends up blocking the sealing plate and causing it to remain in the open position. The danger is that the hot exhaust is then fed into a plastic air pump causing it to potentially melt or catch fire! the fact that this forces the vehicle into "limp mode" is also a huge safety concern as it will not allow the vehicle to travel above 35 mph and could lead to serious accidents if traveling at high speed on the interstate or highway due to the unexpected, sudden deceleration. Failed assembly is Toyota part number : 25710-31020. This part number has been superseded by p/n: 25710-31022 and Toyota charges between $1500-$3200 to replace.

2012 Tacoma with 91,000 miles: while leaving work and trying to accelerate onto highway the "check engine" and "trac off" lights illuminated. Vehicle went into "limp mode" and would not go faster than 35 mph. I had to quickly pull off the road as to not cause an accident. I took vehicle to mac haik Toyota and received the code p2445. I had to replace air switch valve assembly $690, air w/bra pump assembly $813, air tube gaskets $132, labor $610. Total $2063!!!! from researching, this is a known problem with 2012 Tacomas, and had previously been an issue with older tundras, which Toyota issued a TSB for. 2009 Toyota Tacoma with 550 miles. Engine started making noise. Took vehicle in on 18mar09;valves and lifters need readjusting. Picked vehicle up on 20mar09 still making noise and louder. Both exhaust manifolds warp and leaking with blue on metal. Supposedly fix but engine still making noise. Now heads and piston have blue. Truck has been in dealerships service for two weeks now. Help.

I am writing to complain about a ticking noise from the v6 motor. I've taken the truck into the dealer twice and even drove a new Tacoma from the lot. I've noticed a sound from all of the Tacoma's. The problem seems to be a normal thing for the Tacoma's, but it's very irritating.
Since day one I heard this ticking noise, I brought it back to dealer and complained about it. They test drove it and heard the noise, then they drove a new one off the lot and said it made the same noise, so they told me it was normal. After the 3rd time bringing it back for the ticking noise they said it could be the injectors or the exhaust manifolds. Then I called the Toyota corporation and complained about the ticking and they had somebody from the dealership call me up and take him for a test drive and he did not hear the noise he told me I must have especially good hearing at that frequency. What a bunch of crap!.
I purchased a 2005 Toyota Tacoma pickup w/ the 1 engine. Shortly afterwards, I noticed a noise coming from under the hood when I accelerate from a stop. The noise sounded like a knock or a small hole in the exhaust system. I returned the truck to the dealer, and provided the information. They said they couldn't hear a thing. (this was in phildelphia). When I returned home to new orleans after katrina, I took the truck to a Toyota dealer, who said it was an engine knock and nothing could be done about it. Over time the noise got louder and I took the truck to another dealer Toyota of slidell. Their technician took a ride with me and heard the noise himself, but indicated he found no problem when the truck was checked out. At a later date I returned to the dealer and reported the noise again and the technician stated that Toyota had a technical bulletin issued about the problem which was in one of the two exhaust manifolds on the engine. Both exhaust manifolds were replaced and the noise seemed to have been fixed. At a later date, I returned to the dealer and reported that the problem returned. The technician stated that they had completed everything the could based on Toyota's guidance. I requested that the exhaust manifolds be replaced again since it seemed that the problem was eliminated when the exhaust manifolds were replaced originally. He checked with the regional technical rep who said to go ahead and replace the equipment a second time, and this was done. The noise returned shortly thereafter. I returned to the dealer and reported the problem and they stated that nothing else could be done and provided me with the Toyota complaint hotline number. I called the number, was assigned a number and have been in touch with the representative. The are to send me some arbitration forms. I feel that I was sold a truck with a defect that will diminish the value of the vehicle when I either sell it myself or use it as a trade-in.

Exhaust poor engineering. The crossover pipe on the exhaust is the lowest point of the vehicle. It hangs down below the transfercase mount. This will get crushed if taken off road. I bought a 4 x 4 trd model for the sole purpose of taking it off-road. A crushed or damaged crossover pipe could result in carbon monoxide poisoning or even death. This should be recalled for this problem.
While driving, the exhaust manifold cracked. The engine valves failed to hold compression.

Under 50,000 miles exhaust pipe broke, this was welded and repaired. Under 70,000 a hairline crack that encircles the pipe was behind a welded bracket broke again for a second time, this was welded again for repair. The 3rd time 170,000 broke again and this pipe was replaced entirely . Now the 4th time, at 178,000 miles this has broken again. This is awaiting a replacement.
