Toyota has a manufacturing defect going on with their v6 in gen 3tacoma's. I have a 2020 limited with 48,200 miles that needs a new cylinder head. It threw a check engine light on me, and luckily enough I took it to the dealership within about 30 miles, otherwise my engine could have exploded. I have videos from the dealership inspection that I cannot attach here. I have since found via the error code a history of these issues on newer trucks. [xxx] [xxx] [xxx] [xxx] [xxx] [xxx] I believe that this issue could pose serious safety issues for someone who is not as immediate on stopping driving, as it was just a check engine light. If you were to drive on this light down the highway, and have catastrophic failure, the Tacoma becomes a completely unpowered hazard. Vehicle accelerated on its own at highway speed, had to hit the brake in order for it to stop accelerating. Other more common issue is that vehicle rpms go up when trying to accelerate but vehicle does not accelerate, just rpms go up. This happened about 5 times over the past year and a half. Most noticeable time was where I couldn’t accelerate after at all until I pulled over and put it in park. Then back to drive again and worked fine. This car has been brought over to lia Toyota of rockland numerous times with this second issue and they can never duplicate nor fix the problem.

I am having same issue as the incident I found here 12/06/2025, listed under complaints-I live in rio rancho nm- concern it involves the automatic transmission torque converter specifically torque-converter lock-up behavior, the issue presents as a vibration/shudder during steady -speed driving , we are driving around 30-40 miles per hour when it happens, the vehicle remains in my possession and is available for inspection upon request. The vibration/shudder occurs during steady cruising at moderate speeds which affects vehicle smoothness and driver confidence, while no accident has occurred yet, the behavior is unexpected and distracting and could impact safe vehicle operation, particularly during highway driving or when maintaining steady speed in traffic, I took it to my Toyota dealer a few months ago they said they could not find any issues, I am taking it again tomorrow and now I can show them that I found the same issue under complaints, I need to Toyota to fix my issue ASAP,.

Have had engine issues such as stalling, rattling, limp mode, rough idling and engine missing. Have had repairs done but continues to have major issues where it is not functioning properly.

I was driving on the highway when my vehicle suddenly lost power. The engine light and traction control light came on, and I lost power, and the engine started sputtering. I had to pull off to the side and put on hazards. My Tacoma would only drive about 25 mph after this happened. Based on a quick search, this is a very common problem in 3rd-generation Tacomas!.

When’s he start and you get gas it won turn off but don’t do it , and whend I hit a jump and I tuning he shake it wild.

Deep knocking noise they call the taco tick is actually the a problem with the motor. There is an issue valve train and timing chain, tensioners and pulleys. Toyota USA decide to tell all consumers it’s just the way they sound. So they do not have to repair millions of these trucks on recall they refuse to repair under manufacture warranty or power train warranty they wait until it becomes the consumers problem.

I was informed by the service manager at labadie Toyota (bay city, mi) that the new 2. 4l turbos have injector issues! some sienna's Tacoma's, and other models have faulty direct injectors that spray way too much fuel into the cylinders, and it drains into the oil reservoir! I had my oil changed at 1k, 5k and 10k by the dealership. I've had this issue at 5k and I presumed service center incompetence, and they agreed. I recently had my oil changed at 10k and came back in 2 weeks later with check engine light on and excessive engine chatter. I was told this a known Toyota engineering issue, and they are now telling the techs to look into the cylinders to look for clean/washed piston tops. Today they just changed my oil and told me to come back in 3 weeks or if issues arise. I'm concerned about a fire with gas going into the engine oil and potentially causing a fire. Toyota engineering is aware of this issue I was told so I would a recall to be issued so there is no issues with a fire happening.

I purchased a brand-new 2025 Toyota Tacoma trd off-road. From the first day, the steering wheel was off-center and the vehicle vibrated while driving. At around 500 miles, I noticed severe instability and abnormal tire wear. A wheel alignment report showed: thrust angle: +0. 15° (spec: 0° ± 0. 05°) rear toe: left 0. 23°, right -0. 10° (difference: 0. 33°, spec ? 0. 15°) front caster: both sides out of specification (shown in red on report) driving symptoms include: cannot maintain straight-line driving; requires constant steering correction. Excessive body roll during lane changes or turns. Continuous vibration of the vehicle and steering wheel on smooth roads. Vehicle bounces and momentarily loses control on uneven surfaces. Steering wheel rotation does not match front wheel steering angle. When stationary, turning the steering to full lock causes the body to rise; releasing it causes it to drop. Attempts to repair at Toyota of manhattan (June 2025 – August 2025) were unsuccessful. The dealership repeatedly refused to perform proper inspections, provide reports, or acknowledge the defect, despite multiple appointments and a case opened with Toyota corporate. The defect presents a serious safety risk: reduced vehicle stability, increased stopping distance, loss of steering control during maneuvers, excessive and uneven tire wear, and abnormal fuel consumption (13. 5 mpg with no load). The problem exists from new and has not been corrected.

My check engine light came on when I was traveling in oregon. I didn't notice any major changes in my vehicle's performance. Drove it all the way back to colorado without issues. It went off and came back on several times. I replaced the cabin air filter, engine air filter and put fuel injector cleaner in the vehicle. Finally I took it in to the Toyota dealership to get an oil change and then the check engine light came back on. I paid for them to do a diagnostic test and they stated they were almost certain it was the 2nd fuel injector running rich. Brought it back a week later for the repair. Fyi. . . I was still getting 20 mpg in fuel and I wasn't noticing anything major in performance. They replaced the fuel injector and then the check engine light came back on with a different code. They are now running "another" more expensive diagnostic test and I still don't have my truck. They are saying it could be the 2nd cylinder or the engine and claiming it has 150,000 miles so I should expect these issues (and conveniently my warranty has run out).

Engine began making abnormal ticking noise, heard primarily on the passenger side of vehicle. Upon removal of valve cover for inspection, found that there are chunks of camshafts breaking off causing the noise. Appears to be a manufacturing defect. Local dealer said they have seen this issue before. This issue could result in catastrophic engine failure and/or loss of power and cause a crash. My truck has 70k miles on it, regularly maintained and operated.

Vehicle lurched forward with a “bang” accelerating in stop and go traffic. Vehicle then stalled and flashed multiple warnings. Hybrid system failure. Drive mode failure. General failure. Vehicle would not restart on first attempt - multiple attempts made to restart. Upon restarting, it would not move forward in drive, prompting a new error stating it needed to be returned to park. After a couple more restarts it was able to engage the gear and move forward. Power was limited, it drove differently, and the hybrid error persisted.

The timing chain cover is leaking oil which will render the vehicle inoperable which is a safety concern. The diagnosis was done at Toyota and I am being told to repair the truck already at 84,000 miles. The cost of the repair is astronomical ($6,666). The problem appears to be a gasket which to reach for repair requires dropping the engine. It is not fair that consumers bear this burden for faulty design linked directly to a safety concern (engine will stop working because of oil leak).

Engine block.

The engine in my 2019 Toyota Tacoma trd off road suffered internal damage that appears linked to Toyota’s low-pressure fuel pump recall (issued 10/28/2020, repaired 581 days later on 6/10/2022). While out on personal lease, the truck was driven over 16,000 miles with the defective pump, which can cause lean running conditions and elevated combustion temperatures. The result was metallic contamination and a damaged wrist pin in cylinder #6, requiring full engine replacement. All failed components remain available for inspection upon request. The fuel pump defect and resulting internal engine damage continues to place my safety and others’ at risk by creating potential for loss of power, engine stall, or total failure while driving. The problem was confirmed by two separate Toyota dealerships, both of which diagnosed the need for engine replacement. The vehicle has been inspected by multiple Toyota service centers and the Toyota brand engagement center, which opened and later denied my case. No warning lights or messages appeared prior to the ticking noise that first appeared around 62,000 miles. In fact, no warning lights have ever illuminated on the dash. Despite clear evidence that the recall-related defect likely caused the damage, Toyota has refused to provide any assistance or coverage toward repairing or replacing the failed engine, leaving me with a $21,000 repair for a vehicle that was otherwise maintained and operated responsibly.

I started up my Toyota Tacoma early morning on [xxx] and noticed the engine light came on after it warmed up in the cold climate of northern arizona. As such, this occurred at 36,303 miles. The fault code stated the following: “a malfunction in the electronic control of the engine, throttle, or automatic transmission has been detected. Contact your Toyota dealer in order to have your vehicle inspected. ” later in the day, I scheduled an appointment for December 14, 2024 at anderson Toyota. I explained the situation and was disappointed to get an engine light so early, as it didn’t make any sense. Afterwards, at 8:47 pm from getting off work, I intuitively decided to check the engine compartment as the lady with the dealership claimed if rats chewed up the wires it wouldn’t be covered under warranty. Lo and behold, I didn’t find any wires chewed up, but I did find the engine oil filler cap wholly missing! I documented this incident with my camera phone in utter disgust, my initial assessment is Toyota failed to reinstall the oil filler cap. I called the next day, and left a voicemail expressing my disgust and disappointment in their service. Upon arrival, service advisor jennifer advised it is a known issue with the oem oil filler caps coming off. The dealership claims it wasn’t their tech, but a faulty part. Again, (1) this puts me in danger on the road with open contamination occurring to the point, where my engine light is now activated and (2) Toyota should issue a lifetime replacement warranty for any engine issues for the 22’ model Tacomas as the damage has occurred, regardless of what the dealership claims. Vehicle fuel pump went out without any notice and fuel gauge and cluster not showing any data on the instrument cluster. Vehicle loss power and would not go over 40mph on the freeway take over 5 minutes to reach 60 mph per hour. Always serviced at the Toyota dealer and they won't help to fix the problem since its over 49k. They won't even look at emissions problem even it under warranty for 8 year/ 80k per emission warranty for ecu.

This vehicle thermostat and sensor system are faulty! my sensor started lighting up within a year and half after purchasing. Engine was not overheating at first, they said it will eventually happen and it did; all dealers said to replace but I was out of 360000 miles due to commute to seattle. This vehicle is less then 3 years old and should have this item listed specifically in power train warranty since connected to engine directly. If engine overheats it is no longer usable and truck is useless! engine warranty if this is a know issue from Toyota dealerships. Contacted 3-4 dealerships in the state of wa and all had known of issue. One dealer stated anything from 2020 to current has had thermostat issues. This is serious concern knowing the engine can seize up! their thermostat and sensor should not be a combined item in my opinion. Please advise and or confirm this is an issue that should be looked into. If the engine overheats then the vehicle could cause an accident! this is a huge safety risk that can be avoided! I work and make it from paycheck to paycheck this was very expensive to fix and had to paid out of pocket. Please help others be aware of situation!.

The transmission cooling line in my 2019 Toyota Tacoma was never installed by an authorized repair shop following an accident. This critical component failure led to the transmission failing just 1. 5 hours after I retrieved the vehicle from the shop. My safety was compromised, as the failure occurred while driving at highway speeds, without any warning lights or messages indicating an issue. The failure has been confirmed by the dealership (motorworld Toyota) currently inspecting my vehicle. The shop responsible for the initial repairs has taken liability for missing the installation of the transmission cooling line. My insurance company (geico) has been involved but is delaying total loss consideration. No warning lamps or messages appeared before or after the transmission failure, which is highly suspicious. This negligence has caused severe damage to a vital component of my vehicle, and I question the overall integrity of the repairs.

I have had my secondary air pump replaced twice already. Now six months later am having the same codes and the truck is back at the dealership. Throws code p2443 valve stuck closed. . . . . On a 6 month old part. This w=has been an issue with this and other Toyota models since 2012. Why is there no recall on these?.
