The contact owns a 2000 Toyota Tacoma. While the contact was getting the tires changed, she was informed that the rear frame was severely rusted. The contact took the vehicle to a body shop and was informed of an unknown recall regarding the rust on the vehicle. The contact called mike johnson's hickory Toyota (located at 435 us highway 70 se, hickory, nc 28602, 828-330-9538) and was informed that the rear frame needed to be replaced. The repair was once covered under a warranty enhancement program that advised dealers to coat the frame with a rust coating to prevent rust from forming. The contact was also informed that the warranty was expired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed what the dealer stated. The approximate failure mileage was 180,000.

I have a 2002 Tacoma that was part of the frame perforation recall. However, I did not get a frame replacement. The "fix" was to apply a gel over the rust on the frame, which, subsequently, all fell off the frame onto my driveway. Recently, I took my truck into the dealership for a 4wd repair and was told that my "frame was shot" and the truck was "unsafe to drive", due to that. And if they lifted my truck to do the repair, it might "crush my frame". I expressed my displeasure for the recall fix and had them do an estimate on the 4wd repair. They came back with an outrageous number, as if they did not want to do the work. I have since contacted independent repair shops and no one will touch it. , I have a truck no one will repair, I can't sell it, I can't trade it in. . . And I can't drive it. It has no worth. One of my leaf springs has rusted and broken, too. The truck has 215k and is in good condition other than rust. The engine will go 500k. I see recalls on the frame and leaf spring for other model years, but the 2002 seems to not fall into any of them. I don't expect a new frame, but assistance in obtaining a similar truck at a reasonable price or other fair solution may be a consideration.

When Toyota recalled takoma trucks for frame rust I took it to the dealer and was told it didn't have enough rust to qualify. Now when I had it checked ou the mechanic said it isn't safe to drive any more. When I complained to toyta customer service they said the time for replacing the frames was over. The truck is still dangerous to drive and I feel the frame should be replaced.
September 28, 2019 esther voght 20121 pilgrim road houghton, mi 49931 cell 906-370-7643 email ecvoght@charter. Net 5tehn72nx1z866036 2001 Toyota Toyota motor sales, u. S. A. , inc. P. O. Box 259001 plano, TX 75025-9001 to whom it may concern: my daughter (amber voght) purchased the above Toyota Tacoma in 2014. Amber was never notified there was an issue for a rust problem and frame with corrosion. Please see picture below. After a lenghty wait on the phone, the problem was addressed by this information: the frame issues do not happen overnight. This Toyota employee stated, she was surprised that no one that ever worked on the Toyota truck said there was an issue. I find this very ironic since Toyota knew there was a problem and did not contact the owners of the vehicle. The frame is rusted completely through to the point that it is not safe to drive is my daughter supposed to replace a bad frame that you put under there? no way. The case worker that she spoke to was not helpful with no regard whatsoever to the money my daughter had lost on their worthless product much less her safety that was put at risk driving their product with the faulty frame that they used. My family/friends will never buy a Toyota product again. Bottom line: my daughter has been driving in a vehicle that could have resulted in the death of her and my loved ones. Toyota knows that the frames of their 1994-2004 vehicles (800,000 of them) are defective. Yet, Toyota has never recalled these vehicles. They should be repaired, bought back, or replaced by Toyota. How many individuals will have to be injured or die because this problem is not addressed? very sad situation. Sincerely esther voght c. C. . Read more...

Mechanic told me that my frame was rusted through. He could put his fist through a hole in the frame and recommended I call a dealer to see if this was on a recall list. When I called and gave them the VIN, they said no it is not a recall. What can I do? especially if I cannot afford another vehicle!.
Frame rails are rusted through, frame was replaced at 48k. It has 81k and the rails are according to parker Toyota unsafe to drive. Topyota says program is ended on this problem.
Frame has extensive rust/corrosion issues, rust has perforated entirely through several areas. I also own a '04 Tacoma that I just had the frame replaced on a couple months ago and was covered by Toyota under their recall notice, . This is unacceptable. Toyota is well aware that this is a major problem and could very well be a safety hazard. I have been a life long Toyota customer and up until now have had total confidence in the company. I'm quite disgusted with the whole thing and a bit disappointed that Toyota has not been more proactive in remanding the problem. I was under the truck changing the oil and was horrified to see that the corrosion problem was as bad as my '04 Tacoma. I have owned several Tacoma's, with many more miles on them and older in age and have never seen corrosion this extensive.
I recently purchased a 2007 Toyota Tacoma that was involved in the frame rust recall. My local Toyota dealership informed me that even though there are currently rust perforations in the frame (many frames were replaced by Toyota at no cost during the original recall) that because Toyota inspected the frame (with a previous owner in 2016) and did not find any issues large enough at that time to cause the entire frame to be replaced, that their "crc" undercoating they applied was all that was necessary. Less than 3 years later (maybe sooner, but I just got the vehicle) the frame has holes in it and Toyota is not going to do anything about it but offer a full out of pocket $10,000-$15,000 frame replacement. There must be thousands of these vehicles from the original recall that were only sprayed and not replaced that are now unsafe to drive with absolutely no recourse for new (aka unaware) owners because no warranty of the spray whatsoever exists. Undercoating in no way prevents rust from continuing to rot away and make holes in frames - all Toyotas that were only sprayed but did not have entire frame replacement should be required to get new inspections by Toyota and revisit the need for frame replacements.

Frame rust. Truck was treated during the recall in Dec 2014 and dealer stated it would be fine. 5 years and 19,000 miles later, the frame is totally rusted through. Contacted Toyota and they said there's nothing they can do because the warranty expired. Vehicle was treated and if treated correctly it should have lasted longer than 5 years.
There was a recall for frame rust on Tacoma trucks between 2005-2010. My truck was affected with this recall and I took it to a Toyota dealer in Dec 2014 for evaluation. The dealer said the frame was fine but they applied a corrosion protection spray and said that would protect the frame. In August 2019, we notice a good bit of rust on the frame and took it to a different Toyota dealer and they said there's a lot of rust and the frame is rusted through. In 2014 when treated as a solution to the recall, the truck had 56,853 miles on it. In August 2019 when we took it in for evaluation, the truck had 75,239 miles on it. Since 2014, we only put 19,092 miles on the truck. Attached is some photo's of the frame and 1 of the truck to show the condition of the vehicle. My complaint is we did what we were supposed to do when the recall was active and we were told the corrosion protection spray would protect the frame but now I have a safety issue because the frame is rusted through and per the dealer there's nothing they can do because there's no open program. If protected, why did the frame rust through with very little miles on it. I'm going use the date as August 7, 2019 since that's when the dealer said the frame was rusted through.
Bought the truck used, frame rusted, from cold weather state, heard lots of trucks did this, rust so bad afraid to drive it,everything else on truck good, from what I understand it's had 5 recalls, not one done by former owner, internet web site said frames were not coated right, factory defect, want Toyota to fix issue as it's their fault this has happened, it's dangerous to drive.
Toyota never notified me of any frame rust issues, nor was I ever contacted regarding a class action suit which does involve frame rust on my vehicle. I had to perform extensive research to inform myself of the issue. When I visited a dealership for leaf spring replacement, I was told that frame rust was too extensive to perform the repair, however the dealership did not make me aware of the results of a class action suit regarding frame replacement and that the frame would need to be repaired at my own expense, at which time I could not afford. A qualified shop indicates that my frame is too rusted to repair. . Read more...
Tl the contact owns a 2003 Toyota Tacoma. While driving approximately 35 mph, a noise emerged from the rear of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who determined that the rear frame was severely rusted on both sides. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 46,733.
Frame is rusty beyond usage. As I accelerate the bed of the truck flexes so I can see it in the rearview mirror.

Took truck for inspection, wouldn't pass because frame is rusted through and right rear shock absorber is unattached because of frame. Mechanic says driving it is unsafe. Toyota had recall I was unaware of for rusted frames, when contacted them they said they could do nothing.
The frame is rusting out.
Tl the contact owned a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that the entire subframe was severely rusted. The vehicle was taken to Toyota south (961 four mile rd, richmond, ky 40475, (859) 624-1313) and the contact was informed of Toyota warranty enhancement program zh6 however, the warranty period was expired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 262,000.
Frame rusted resulting in structure failure (auto basically broke in half), call Toyota headquarters and they provided no assistance. Said the truck should have been sprayed. Bought the truck from a dealership and feel as though the dealership should have provided inspection and spray if necessary prior to selling auto.
I had tires rotated, technician told me frame is extremely rusted(tacoma problem) big safety problem. Toyota told me they would check it out for 98,-- dollars. I don't think that's right. Toyota problem.
Tl the contact owns a 2004 Toyota Tacoma. While the vehicle was undergoing an oil change, the contact was informed that the frame was rusted. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to autoland (170 us-22, springfield township, NJ 07081, (800) 288-6526) where it was confirmed that the frame was rusted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 1904301385. No further assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 67,000.
Mechanic noted rust on frame. Contacted Toyota, there was a lawsuit about premature rusting on frames, but settlement is done and there is nothing they(Toyota) can do?.

The vehicle was stationary and was not in a wreck. I recently had my truck worked on and the mechanic told me the frame had about a two foot spot that was rusted through the frame. After learning this, I did some research and found out there was a class action lawsuit that was settled with Toyota for the 2005-2010 year model Tacoma because of frame corrosion. I contacted Toyota customer service to explain to them that I never got a recall notification in the mail. They basically told me they would no longer replace the frames free of charge because I was two months past the deadline. I will most likely be filing a lawsuit against them if they continue to refuse to replace my frame. The vehicle is not safe to drive and had I known about this, I would have taken care of it sooner. They claim they sent a recall notification, however I never received it. I don't think it's right that Toyota is refusing to fix a problem they knew about and was recalled on the vehicle they built. My family has ridden in the vehicle and have been put at risk or serious bodily injury because the vehicle is unsafe. Now I basically have a worthless unsafe truck that will cost too much to repair. Is there anything that can be done to force Toyota to replace the frame on my truck? Toyota gave me case #1904160762. The conversation was recorded and burned to a cd, which I have in my possession. If necessary, I can mail it to someone.
Tl the contact owns a 2003 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that the rear frame was rusted and the passenger side wheel bearing detached. The hub for the wheel bearing was loose and deteriorated. The contact stated that the vehicle continued to rust and was taken to an independent mechanic who refused to service the vehicle because they did not have the correct certified parts. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and did not assist. The failure mileage was 107,000.
Frame is rusted through in many places. Unsafe to drive.
Exhaust system was in need of repair. Shop would not be able to fix because the frame is so rusted there is nothing left to attach new parts to. Shop showed me large holes in frame. Then advised me that I should not be driving it with the possibilities of breaking. Which I have heard happen to others. I have never received a notice or recall for this problem. The only recall that I have received and taken care of was the issue with the accelerator. This alarms me since I often have my children with me.
Tl the contact owns a 2007 Toyota Tacoma. The contact received a recall notice for NHTSA campaign number: 14v604000 (suspension). The vehicle was taken to Toyota of york (1885 whiteford rd, york, PA 17402) to have the leaf spring replaced. The dealer stated that the frame was rusted and the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The manufacturer was contacted and confirmed that the vehicle was no longer under warranty for the frame. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 150,000.
The frame is rusted through on the driver's side next to the catalytic converter. It has two rust holes that are connected with a crack that the rust is starting to widen. The holes are approximately 1-2 inches in size. I first bought the vehicle in 2013 at my home of record (minnesota) in-between duty stations. I'm active military and I'm stationed in north carolina. I deployed in 2017 and didn't get back until late 2018. In early 2019 stevenson hendrick Toyota contacted me to have recalls performed on my truck. I took it in and they did the seat belt, throttle pedal, and load rating sticker. However, I was never informed that my framed was rusted through. I found out after I had to troubleshoot my O2 sensors. At which point I contacted Toyota headquarters in regards to united states district court for the central district of California case no. 2:15-cv-02171-fmo-ffm to see if they would replace my frame or at least repair it; as I understood the timeframe had past that Toyota would replace the frame. I explained to them that I never received any notification about this and that I was deployed as well during this time. Toyota still refuse to fix the frame. When I take the truck in to get serviced sometimes they turn me away; as they don't want to held liable because of the frame. For the price to replace the frame I can purchase a used vehicle. I should not have to dispose of my vehicle when it runs fine and is paid for. Since then I have tried to find someone with the expertise to repair my frame, but no one wants to do the repairs and possibly be held liable afterwards.
A lot of rust on the frame and rust underneath. Clean and well taken care but the rust still exist. I even have to replace the exaust because it fall off due to the rust. The rust underneath are almost everywhere.
Takata recall, I own a 2004 Toyota Tacoma that came from west virginia when originally purchased, this trucks leaf springs have now broke lose and is very unsafe to drive for my 17 year old son, we have contacted Toyota and they were very rude so I have now came to this, there is rust holes in the frame of his truck the size of baseballs and scares me for him to ever drive it at all please help us figure out what we can do, his uncle that owned the truck before we got it was very sick he lived in west virginia and was never told or called about a recall for the frame my son just recently got the truck painted and was told that he needs a new frame very badly.
I own a 2007 Toyota Tacoma. It's frame has been inspected by my local Toyota dealer (hertrich) three separate times for rust to the frame. It received a rust inhibitor coating on 1/16/15. It was inspected again on 12/21/17 and 1/3/19. During the 1/3/19 inspection, the dealer conducted a multi-point inspection. My truck's steering components and steering linkage were inspected. It received a green check by the dealer, the highest rating. On 2/7/19, just one month after the inspection, my power steering failed while I was driving. I was able to make it safely to my local mechanic. My truck's rack and pinion steering system had heavy corrosion, and most of the power steering fluid had leaked. My mechanic replaced the rack and pinion steering system. It was heavily corroded. My mechanic said he had never seen one this corroded. Please see attached photographs of my corroded power steering rack. Toyota has refused to apply a second coat of the rust inhibitor to my truck's frame, even though I have new rust coming through the previous treatment. Now, rust and corrosion to my power steering rack, exactly where it attaches to the truck frame, had massive corrosion, causing a total failure of the power steering system. I have checked Toyota forums, and this problem is common with other Toyota Tacoma owners. Please force Toyota to properly address the corrosion issues with it's Tacoma trucks. The rust inhibitor that was applied to my truck's frame in January of 2015 has failed. The truck's frame, and components attached to the frame, continue to rust and corrode, causing danger to me, my family, and other motorists. Thank you for your attention in this matter.
Frame rusting out even after having undercoat sprayed in previous recall, after looking online I have found numerous people with the same year and model having their frame replaced by Toyota under a recall, but I have been told repeatedly that there is not recall and Toyota will do nothing.
Frame rusting from the inside out caused frame of truck to snap in half when lifted with a hydraulic lift at the mechanic's shop.
My trucks has a very bad rusted frame due to a Toyota poor frame coat and it will need to replace not feeling safe driving not letter was sent out during the time to do the recall of Toyota frames.
