2 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2006 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 01/02/2020

The entire frame of this garage kept truck is completely rusted though. This truck as only 61,000 miles on it & is unsafe to drive. The rear leaf spring mounts are broken & have punctured the gas tank. The electrical wiring to do with the safety neutral switch, which is tied into the entire from wiring harness has caught fire twice. Toyota has been notified about all of this, in detail, & they could care less about my own or anyone else's safety. There isn't a scratch on this truck & has really low miles yet is so unsafe to use because of poor construction on Toyota's part.

4 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2008 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 03/21/2016

This is the third time I have reported this vehicle going full throttle on its own within a one year period. Yesterday, I was at texaco gas station at bold springs rd and hwy 81 in bold springs, GA. Filled up gas tank, started engine, had foot on brake, put in drive, and throttle went wide open, spinning rear tire. I shut ignition key off and re-started. Problem corrected itself. I have an electro-mechanical technical degree, and am currently a parts specialist for gwinnett county school bus shop. The problem with this vehicle is in the ecm as it controls the throttle. I intend on writing my congressman and senator, copying Toyota dealer in stone mountain, GA and their corporate office in California. The last e-mail I received from you on incident # 10817501, stated; "every complaint is taken seriously, reviewed in detail and analyzed for defects trends. Your complaint is important because it helps to inform NHTSA, other vehicle owners and manufacturers about potential safety concerns. . Read more...

5 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2004 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 07/30/2015

The owner found a recall on 2004 Toyota Tacomas on the internet. This recall specified that there was a manufacturing defect in the formulation of the undercoating. This manufacturing defect resulted in the rusting of the suspension, and tire plate. Upon inspection of the vehicle by a Toyota dealer, it was found that the a-frame is rusted through, the leaf springs are failing and are bowed in the opposite direction, gas tank mounts are rusted and the under body of the gas tank housing is rusting through. Toyota deemed the vehicle unsafe but refused to do anything because the recall had expired. The owner never received a notice by mail during the recall period. If the owner would have received the recall notice he would have brought the vehicle in for inspection and repair. This vehicle has low mileage and if it were not for these manufacturing defects, could be driven for another 10 years. Contact with any common road hazard such as a bump or pot hole could cause the bow springs to fail, and there is a possibility of gas tank rupture, explosion and death.

6 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2002 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 04/02/2013

I could hear a rattling noise. Upon inspection I saw that the fuel tank had dropped almost to the ground. The rear strap , that holds the fuel tank to the body had broken from corrosion(rust) . This rust had also destroyed the protective shield that was mounted over the fuel tank strap ,to protect it from corrosion and physical damage. A gas tank falling to the road is a safety hazard.

7 Other Fuel System Tank Mounting problem of the 2003 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 01/16/2013

My truck was part of the frame recall and I had the frame replaced in 2010, since then I have had to pay to replace other rusted parts that were not "part of the recall". First the spare tire mount rusted off and the tire fell out from under the truck while driving. Next the entire exhaust needed to be replaced as it too had rusted out. Last year to pass inspection I needed to pay $1600. 00 for a catalytic converter. This year I cannot pass inspection as the check engine light is on and despite 2 attempts to find the problem (and $200. 00 later) the light remains on. The suspicion is the gas tank is rusted "at the top" and will cost me $1800. 00 to replace. I just received a "preliminary" recall for the spare tire mount, I imagine I will receive a recall notice in a few years for the gas tank as well. Ridiculous that only some parts were recalled. . . And ridiculous that I have to pay to replace the others. . . Not to mention the inconvenience.
