Driving the car on the freeway and upon exiting it stalled going up an incline without any warning. Could have caused a major accident and I am lucky that it did not happen on the freeway. I researched and found out that 2019-2020 Toyota pickups had this known issue in which the fuel pump fails without any warning. As a result, Toyota did issue a recall, however when I contacted them and provided the VIN number, they indicated my truck was not covered under the recall. I am very upset that a 5 year old truck failed on the fuel pump and Toyota is not covering it under the recall since this is a known issue that could have resulted in a serious accident.

I was informed by the service manager at labadie Toyota (bay city, mi) that the new 2. 4l turbos have injector issues! some sienna's Tacoma's, and other models have faulty direct injectors that spray way too much fuel into the cylinders, and it drains into the oil reservoir! I had my oil changed at 1k, 5k and 10k by the dealership. I've had this issue at 5k and I presumed service center incompetence, and they agreed. I recently had my oil changed at 10k and came back in 2 weeks later with check engine light on and excessive engine chatter. I was told this a known Toyota engineering issue, and they are now telling the techs to look into the cylinders to look for clean/washed piston tops. Today they just changed my oil and told me to come back in 3 weeks or if issues arise. I'm concerned about a fire with gas going into the engine oil and potentially causing a fire. Toyota engineering is aware of this issue I was told so I would a recall to be issued so there is no issues with a fire happening.

I was driving my 2017 Toyota Tacoma and I my car suddenly was lurching and running rough. I had to put on hazards on a main road and pull over immediately and was not even able to let it run for air conditioning. It was 108 degrees out that day, waited for 1 hour 30 minutes in heat. Had truck towed to mechanic that stated my fuel pump was bad and there was a federal mandate recall on this. I have the paperwork for this (attached), when I called dealership they said it was not covered so I called advocate for Toyota that stated my truck was built in June and the mandate was only for September of 2017 and forward. So I have the exact same problem that they have a federal mandate to fix but won't fix mine. If I had been on the freeway I could have been killed. I have attached estimate to fix.
On June 26, 2025, around 9:30 am, I was driving my Tacoma on the highway at approximately 70 mph when the truck suddenly lost power. I was in the center lane and nearly got hit as I tried to exit the highway. After exiting, the engine warning light came on, and the truck eventually stalled. I was able to restart it with limited power and drove it to a nearby shop. The shop's diagnosis revealed several warning codes, and the fuel pressure was found to be only 14 psi. They recommended replacing the low-pressure fuel pump. After researching known fuel pump issues, I had the truck towed to a local Toyota dealership. The dealership confirmed the codes but couldn’t replicate the low-pressure reading after driving for about 30 miles. Because of this, they stated that it didn’t qualify for the extended recall offered by Toyota. Toyota refused to replace the pump, arguing that the recall had already been performed in 2020 and that the low pressure reading came from a non-Toyota repair shop. My response was: how can they be sure that the pump replaced under the recall wasn’t faulty as well? no answer in the end, I had no choice but to cover the repair costs myself. However, I made sure to get the old pump back from the dealership and documented its manufacturing details to support my claim moving forward.

The. Truck won’t turn on. We checked it with a diagnostic tool and it was confirmed that it was the fuel pump.
The underside of my 2011 Toyota Tacoma is experiencing tremendous rust. Dealer said since there was not perforation, nothing to be done. Brackets holding wiring, body panels and now gas tank have rusted and failed. The gas tank strap is a major concern. It is available for inspection. The gas tank is held up now by one unrusted strap and rubber bungee cords I applied. Dealer or independence service center has not seen it. Nearest dealer is a ferry ride away, I live on an island. No inspection by manufacturer etc. No warning lights or messages.

My check engine light came on when I was traveling in oregon. I didn't notice any major changes in my vehicle's performance. Drove it all the way back to colorado without issues. It went off and came back on several times. I replaced the cabin air filter, engine air filter and put fuel injector cleaner in the vehicle. Finally I took it in to the Toyota dealership to get an oil change and then the check engine light came back on. I paid for them to do a diagnostic test and they stated they were almost certain it was the 2nd fuel injector running rich. Brought it back a week later for the repair. Fyi. . . I was still getting 20 mpg in fuel and I wasn't noticing anything major in performance. They replaced the fuel injector and then the check engine light came back on with a different code. They are now running "another" more expensive diagnostic test and I still don't have my truck. They are saying it could be the 2nd cylinder or the engine and claiming it has 150,000 miles so I should expect these issues (and conveniently my warranty has run out).

I have a new 2024 Toyota Tacoma that I purchased December 2024. My dashboard lit up the morning of Thursday, April 17. Drive start warning on the dashboard and a secondary breaking malfunction warning I contacted my local Toyota dealer and informed him that my vehicle is giving me warnings and I only have 13,000 miles on the vehicle. I took the vehicle and they told me that it was the fuel pump they replaced the fuel pump return the vehicle to me, and before I could leave the parking lot both codes on the dashboard shut up again and the vehicle would not move. I am writing this report to document what is going on with the vehicle. I believe that it is a lemon and there’s something majorly wrong with it. I brought the vehicle brand new in December and again it’s only has 13,000 miles on it right now.
The check engine light came on two different times for us on the 2020 Toyota Tacoma. We called Toyota to see if we could continue to drive it and they asked if the light stayed on or was blinking, and if it stayed on we could still drive the vehicle . We did not feel comfortable doing that so made an appointment on February 5th,2025 and after we parked the truck at the dealership, they started it again the check engine light did not come on. They were going to send us home. The service man then asked if we wanted do a diagnostic test to check the system and that is when they found it was the low pressure fuel pump, he said that was a good call to have not drove it home because if you're driving at a high rate of speed the truck could just stop and could cause and accident [ which is a serious safety issue for us] we checked for a recall with our VIN # and found they extended the recall and some vehicles might get a recall letters by late March of 2025. But to keep checking if your VIN is covered. We have to pay over $1200 to get this fixed and feel that for a new 2020 vehicle purchased this is enough of a safety issue that this should be covered by Toyota. We read that these fuel pumps should last at least over 100,000- 200,000 miles. Please respond ASAP how you are going to handle this. We could have had an accident due to this and been killed. The Toyota dealership in Lincoln, ne. Has the part on order and should be trying to get it installed by the end of the week if you need to contact them. We do not have the repair bill amount as of yet, because the repair is not complete yet!.
I started up my Toyota Tacoma early morning on [xxx] and noticed the engine light came on after it warmed up in the cold climate of northern arizona. As such, this occurred at 36,303 miles. The fault code stated the following: “a malfunction in the electronic control of the engine, throttle, or automatic transmission has been detected. Contact your Toyota dealer in order to have your vehicle inspected. ” later in the day, I scheduled an appointment for December 14, 2024 at anderson Toyota. I explained the situation and was disappointed to get an engine light so early, as it didn’t make any sense. Afterwards, at 8:47 pm from getting off work, I intuitively decided to check the engine compartment as the lady with the dealership claimed if rats chewed up the wires it wouldn’t be covered under warranty. Lo and behold, I didn’t find any wires chewed up, but I did find the engine oil filler cap wholly missing! I documented this incident with my camera phone in utter disgust, my initial assessment is Toyota failed to reinstall the oil filler cap. I called the next day, and left a voicemail expressing my disgust and disappointment in their service. Upon arrival, service advisor jennifer advised it is a known issue with the oem oil filler caps coming off. The dealership claims it wasn’t their tech, but a faulty part. Again, (1) this puts me in danger on the road with open contamination occurring to the point, where my engine light is now activated and (2) Toyota should issue a lifetime replacement warranty for any engine issues for the 22’ model Tacomas as the damage has occurred, regardless of what the dealership claims. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Stopping at a stop light, after coming to a complete stop, vehicle will want to slowly creep forward and you need to press a little harder on the brake pedal. If you don't pay attention, you will creep into the vehicle in front of you. I am in the transmission TSB range.
Vehicle fuel pump went out without any notice and fuel gauge and cluster not showing any data on the instrument cluster. Vehicle loss power and would not go over 40mph on the freeway take over 5 minutes to reach 60 mph per hour. Always serviced at the Toyota dealer and they won't help to fix the problem since its over 49k. They won't even look at emissions problem even it under warranty for 8 year/ 80k per emission warranty for ecu.
The truck suddenly stopped took it to a mechanic and had to replace the fuel pump. Aaa tow company along with the mechanic that fixed the issue said that it is odd a truck so new with fuel pump issues I have the bad fuel pump and invoices. The truck stopped working at 55,247mi on the odometer.
Started my truck up to go to the store started driving and all of a sudden it acted like it was running out of fuel check engine light came on and a ! symbol came to barely make it back home it sat for three weeks and had to have it towed to dealer they diagnostic on it and said it was a fuel pump problem the thing is there's a recall on this same vehicle but not mine $1400 is what they want to fix there problem my truck should on the recall.
Was driving to the store, and it started cutting out jumping and jerking with tremendous loss of power barely made it home had to push it in my drv way and still no start it says my truck is not in the recall for faulty fuel pump warning check engine lights came on and says malfunction in the throttle body censer and automatic transmission sender.
When stopped at stop signs or intersections ,when taken off from a stop truck would have a dead spot and almost caused a accident trying to get into traffic. Has happened several times over the lease time I have had it. No alerts. Has been reported . Gas treatment suggested. But still does it to a degree.
2017 Toyota Tacoma double cab-v6 with 62k approx miles. On or around April 29th 2024, I was traveling in this truck when there was a sudden and complete loss of power, two check engine lights came on-the "trac off" light and the check engine light came on. I needed to pull over immediately for safety. I ended up driving the vehicle to the Toyota dealership in limp mode. The vehicle has sat at tustin Toyota now for weeks with the Toyota dealership initially suggesting that a acis flap broke off inside the intake manifold of the car. This was replaced and the vehicle is still providing the same alarms and still in limp mode. The initial fix(whihc did not fix the problem was a full replacement of the intake manifold). Now the dealer is suggesting that a piece(s) broke off the intake manifold and ended up inside the engine so now dealer is recommending and entire engine break down to attempt to further diagnose the situation. Again it looks to be a complete failuure of the acis system and the intake manifold. This problem has presented a extreme safety issue due to comp[lete loss for power initially then truck sits in limp mode. Very dangerous!.
The Tacoma still has only 10,000 original miles. We yearly replace the oil when we have our annual vehicle inspection. The truck has been trouble since the beginning. Early on I noticed when going downhill, the automatic transmission seems to slip when applying the gas. I have taken the truck back to the dealer in kona to be told that it is not part of the rear end differential recall some years ago. I asked them to make a notation of this should the transmission or rear end differential fail in the future. Recently, we received an informational letter from Toyota regarding something about a possible faulty high pressure fuel pump. I made an appointment at the dealer and since I was there asked them for tire rotation, oil change and annual vehicle inspection. I explained to the service writer that I still believe there is a rear end or transmission problem. At first, she said, the recall was never done and later said it was done. More importantly, I have been smelling gasoline when I exit the truck although I see no visible fuel on the ground. I believe that this is related to the fuel pump issue which I received the letter from you. I was told several hours after I dropped off the truck that the fuel smell was not related to the letter I received.
The gas gauge on the dashboard does not work properly.

High-pressure and low pressure fuel pumps. Yes it is available for inspection. The truck cannot maintain posted, speed limit, causing a potential rear end collision. I reported the problem they replaced the high-pressure fuel pump for free and then said the low pressure fuel pump needs replaced the truck only has 40,000 miles. I think there’s a defect in this part that could cause lots of accidents. Check engine light is flashing and the atc light comes on, the engine starts to sputter and cannot maintain speed.

Fuel injector(s) leaked without any warning, causing engine to loose power on freeway. We were fortunate to be able to move over to the shoulder before the truck lost all power. Vehicle was towed to dealer and it was determined that the injector leaked fuel into engine causing engine failure. Repairs needed include engine block, heads sub assembly, injectors and assorted other parts total for parts and labor $19,256 no warning lights or symptoms prior to this problem. Truck has been running fine with no problems, only has 41,000 miles.

Vehicle stalling on freeway and almost crashed multiple times and dealership is saying they already fixed the recall on my truck but still doing same thing as reports say.
We took the Toyota Tacoma VIN 5tenx22n59z618806, is be service oil change , clear out lights on dash board repair tires. The mechanic put the truck on the lift and had to drop it down due to the massive amount of rust on the frame, that they were concerned it would brake in half. We are the original owner of this 2009 Tacoma and never received any information about the recall. My address has never changed since the purchase. Please contact us to help get this corrected . . . The engine and transmission. Are in good condition. It's the frame that force it undriveable. Blue book on the car is @ $8900. It only has @ 87,000 miles. This 2019 truck feels like it just doesn’t want to go. It struggles to go up any hill no matter how small. The engine jumps feels like it’s got a heart beat while riding. The gas mileage is horrendous and awful the 2015 was all around a better truck I read somewhere that Toyota recalled a bunch of 2019 trucks for a gas line rip was causing fires and whatever else. I thought for sure it had to be my trucks issue bc that would absolutely explain why it’s running so weird and ragged. The poor thing … I’m very worried about it.
The check engine light on the dashboard of my 2012 Tacoma turned on and will no longer accelerate appropriately and especially while driving uphill, posing a danger to myself and other drivers. I was on a two-lane highway with a cliffside drop on one side and a wall of steep rock on the other and absolutely no where to go as there was only one lane going in each direction and my truck would not accelerate over 20mph in an area where you’re expected to keep a pace above 40mph and as such ended up with a long row of impatient and increasingly frustrated drivers behind me, only more incited by my having to turn on my hazard lights as a result of a crawling speed I was forced to deal with and with nowhere to pull over and get out of the way. How can I possibly rely on this vehicle to be safe for me or anyone else, especially on a fast-moving highway in this condition? I have taken the vehicle to an auto shop and I as told the air injection system is bad and that this is a typical problem for Toyota Tacomas and the cost would be just shy of $3,000! I was recommended by a mechanic to reach out to Toyota directly because this is obviously an issue the manufacturer should readily respond to and repair. Please advise.

The truck has been jumping/idling oddly & after getting gas, is very difficult to restart. Our mechanic said the fuel pump is bad & that it was recalled, but when I contacted the dealership, they are claiming it is not covered under the recall.
2011- check engine light was illuminated. Toyota dealership attempted repairs 11 times but could not find a cause. They replaced 7 different sensors, replaced gas cap, charcoal filter. . Still could not get light to go off. Refused to continue servicing same issue with no fault. Since 2011, I have had to run diagnostics on a regular basis to ensure there are no other mechanical issues. 2022- gas tank fell off of truck while driving. The straps snapped off due to rust and tank fell to the ground. This issue could have caused great bodily injury or death. 2023-lost brakes while driving. Total brake failure. Local mechanic stated it was a proportioning valve failure. The housing for it was rusted through and cannot be removed safely. After multiple days of research, a replacement could not be located. Even contacting Toyota, part is unavailable so vehicle cannot be fixed. Total brake failure could have led to great bodily injury or death. Ongoing-- vehicle frame is extremely rusted. Bumper has fallen off, spare tire fell off, brush guard rusted and fell off. The frame under cab near bed of truck is rusted through. Gas tank straps rusted through and tank fell off. You can literally push fingers/hand through the flaking metal. All previous recalls were completed including undercoating but the rust has gotten so bad the vehicle is not safe to drive.

I received a notice from Toyota motor corporation that certain 2011-2017 model year Tacoma vehicles should be brought in for a frame corrosion inspection. Subsequent to this inspection, the dealership could recommend either an application of corrosion resistant compound or an entire frame replacement. My vehicle's frame was severe enough to qualify for replacement, but, the dealership indicated that the fuel tank band holding the fuel tank in place was sufficiently rusted that it should be replaced to the tune of $421. 58 if this item is a safety issue, I'd think it would be subject to recall and replacement. Please advise.

When starting vehicle (2015 Tacoma trd sport) on a cold morning, received check engine light and trac light. Used code reader and received code p0418 secondary air injection system control a circuit error. I reset the code and it came back immediately. I did some research and it is a known issue. I also contacted a local Toyota dealer (kool Toyota) and they stated there is no open recalls on my vehicle and that they have replaced this on some vehicles but mine is not included on the recall. In review this is a known issue with the secondary air injection system failing with Tacomas yet Toyota fails to do anything about it. It is an expensive fix for a known issue. Toyota has recalled 2012s and have a service notice for a fix but it is expensive. The service notice was created because of the issue however they fail to do anything about it besides a service notice.

Fuel system - vehicle surged (high rpms) while gearshift lever was in the drive position after release of pressure on the accelerator as I was parking the vehicle surged and smashed into a cement post, the vehicle traveled approximately 10 to 15 feet. The vehicle is currently at the dealership where an independent contractor, who is contracted by Toyota, will be doing a visual and diagnostic analysis. I expect the vehicle to be returned to me on 1/19/2023. The vehicle and components have not been inspected by any other individual at this time. There were no warning lights on prior to the surge. Unknown if any warning light came during the incident which I believe was two (2) seconds until impact with the post.
