When my 2009 Tacoma reached about 18,500 miles the rear spring started to squeak. You can hear it even getting in & out of the vehicle. If you put much weight in the back it will squat & lift the front end up. It even does poorly pulling an empty trailer. This is my 10th + Toyota & I am very disappointed that this type of problem pops up & Toyota won't do anything about it. I may just by a GMC next time.
Gas tank shield severely rusted. Under side of gastank is protected by a shield/skid plate. It is rusted so badly that when hit with a hammer the hammer goes right through. Presumably this shield is to protect the gas tank from debris and stones especially if the truck is used off road. I discovered this as I was inspecting the underside of the truck before dropping the truck off at the dealer to have the frame replaced. In addition to this, it is apparent that the drive axle and differential housing also have severe rust. If tapped with a hammer the rust comes of in sheets. The parking brakes actuating levers have rusted in place and can no longer be used. There appears to be more to this rust than simple frame rust. The rust is pervasive through out the underside of the truck.

I have a 2009 toytoa Tacoma with 26,000 miles, and the leaf suspension is failing. There are audible groans and creaks just getting in and out of the car, or if I put in loads as light as 50 pounds. Further, the ride has become worse over bumps. Toyota has issued tsbs for this issue in earlier models, but they have not addressed the problem, and there isn't a TSB for 2009.
Leaf spring split in 3 places, Toyota dealership wants to do nothing about it, says it's not a manufacturing defect.

The truck bottoms out at about half the payload capacity of 1,295 pounds. A 652lb atv caused the truck to bottom out. There is a TSB out for 2005-2008 models and Toyota claims it has remedied the problem but the same exact parts are still in use on the 2009 models.
Tacoma 2006 rear end suspension bottom up on one side only, the dealer doesn't want to pass the problem under warranty, I have 75,000km the warranty expire at 60,000. Any little imperfection on the road will make the suspension bottom up. Dangerous to drive.

My 2001 Toyota Tacoma double cab frame is rusted through. Toyota is buying back older ones but the frame is the same or worse on my 2001 with no holes to let water and salt out. This is a potentially dangerous situation and since they bought the older ones back in this area it must be serious.

Driver's side rear leaf spring broke last year. I had it repaired/replaced at a local spring shop. Now the same spring on passenger side has broke at the same place. This affects handling of vehicle and leaves the spring hanging by a factory clamp which if it breaks the rest of the way could cause accident.

When truck has 4 to 5 passengers, the rear end bottoms out with the slightest dip in the roadway.
10000 miles prior to purchasing the truck new my rear axle started 'clunking'. After bringing it in for the rear suspension TSB they told me that it won't completely rectify the axle sway('clunking')! I need this fixed by Toyota, this will lead to other mechanical problems. It is a 05 Toyota Tacoma quad cab short be 4x4.
The rear suspension feels like it bottoms out when hitting even small dips in the road. It has been doing this for about as long as I have had the truck (2007) and all suspension parts are original.
Rear-end whines between 50 & 65 mph, going up grade. (auto trans. Reg. Cab, 2. 7 engine) I took it to my Toyota dealer and they told me it was road noise. Well I know the difference between road noise & a mechanical noise. I just want this to go on record. Thank you.
My 2005 Toyota Tacoma pickup has severe paint chipping problems on the rocker panels, lower doors, and front of the bedsides. Toyota is denying responsibility. They want to do a paint repair which will depreciate the value of my truck instead of giving me a new truck which is the only way to properly correct the problem. Unless they were to strip my truck down to bare metal and repaint from scratch, there is no other way to do it properly.
The rear end of the vehicle collapsed, which caused the vehicle to sway.

Consumer was traveling 55mph on highway and there was a noise located in rear end. Dealership replaced rear end. Consumer's son was traveling on highway, a deer ran in front of him, he applied brakes and lost control of vehicle/ ran into a tree. Vehicle was totaled. Dealership was aware of problem. Driver's side airbag deployed after he was climbing out of vehicle.
Payload rated at 1674/lbs according to the sales brochure and saleman. We advised the truck will be used for deliveries of 600-1200/lbs. Loaded 800/lbs and the truck suspension is at its full travel. The truck seems very unsafe to drive with more than a 500/lb payload.
