1 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2006 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 03/22/2021

This should be a mandatory recall. This is dangerous and should be looked at that way people have had their frames broken in half. The worst damage on mine is driver's side up front there is also rust near the rear my truck recently had rear springs replaced on a recall. They should have noticed it they said nothing about it, the front tires have been replaced several times at the same dealership should have been easy to notice the damage at front didn't mention it. Thank you tony baggett.

2 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2010 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 11/14/2020

On 14 Nov 2020, I called coggins Toyota, in jacksonville, florida in regards to a recall on leaf springs for my 2010 Tacoma. Per the recall remedy on their website, "Toyota will replace the leaf springs with newly designed ones. " the supervisor at coggins (jenny, I believe) told me the remedy would only be implemented if the defect can be physically identified via inspection, regardless of what it says on their recall web site. She refused to implement the remedy in spite of the risk factors, which include possible fire involving the fuel tank. Toyota should be required to mitigate the hazard, not wait for it to present itself and cause harm or death. Per the Toyota recall website: VIN: 5teju4gn6az698309 year: 2010 make: Toyota model: Tacoma recall date: September 29, 2014 manufacturer recall number: e02 description; the subject vehicles' rear suspension system contains leaf springs that are constructed of either three or four leaves. There is a possibility that a leaf could fracture due to stress and corrosion. If this occurs and the vehicle continues to be operated, the broken leaf could move out of position and contact surrounding components, including the fuel tank. Safety risk: if the broken leaf contacts the fuel tank repeatedly, it could puncture the tank and cause a fuel leak. In the presence of an ignition source, this could result in a fire. Remedy: Toyota will replace the leaf springs with newly designed ones.

3 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2005 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 08/15/2020

There was a recall on the frame and in 2015 my father-in-law owned the vehicle and had it inspected and all I know is it passed. He is deceased now and I own the vehicle and recurved notification about a recall on the rear springs so made an appointment and they told me that they couldn't fix the problem because the frame was to rusted to safely take springs off to replace. The frame recall has expired but the spring recall is still in effect. So I feel that to fix the safety issue they should fix the frame so that they can fix the springs to solve the safety issue. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.

4 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2011 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 06/15/2020

The vehicle takes long to stop even after changing the brake pads , rotors, brake shoes, with new components. The rear makes a thud sound when accelerating or coming to a stop. The leaf springs also squeak and I noticed after they changed my frame the leaf springs were not change even though there is a recall on the leaf springs and it was rusting? the steering intermediate shaft started to make this loud thud sound when going over bumps around 5-10 mph. There is also a recall on this, but my local dealer says there isn't one? why doesn't the main branch talk to or update the system for all Toyota branches for recalls?.

6 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2011 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 05/10/2019

Rear left side leaf spring broke while driving; I brought the vehicle from the u. S into the island of grenada(caribbean) where the spring broke. . Heard this loud flapping under the vehicle ; stopped to investigate and found the middle spring (of 3) broke and was sticking out from the rest; I noticed that the leaf springs were more flat than curved like normal springs the Toyota dealer in grenada is telling me I must get a letter from a Toyota dealer in the u s for their repair services to act. I cant believe the order said "go to the nearest Toyota dealer" and these people who supposed to be dealers are giving me this run around.

7 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2011 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 03/01/2019

On line it says there is a recall on my 2011 Tacoma for rear leaf springs breaking. My leaf spring on the drivers side broke driving down the road with no weight in my bed. Toyota tells me my VIN doesn't come up on the list. If this is a common problem why isn't my truck covered? I don't overload my truck, in fact I baby it. I've only had it just over one year. I'm really disappointed that they would basically say sorry you're on your own! it's going to cost $800-$1000 dollars I can't afford but have no choice! are there any other options?.

8 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2011 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 02/28/2019

Rear leaf springs are very weak and are not as supportive as they should be. As shown in the photo the spring is pretty much straight and it should have some curve as there is no load on the vehicle.

9 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2011 Toyota Tacoma

11 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2012 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 10/15/2018

In may of 2017 the left rear leaf spring broke I proximity to the gas tank. I was told by heritage Toyota that there was no recall in place for 2012 Toyota Tacoma pick-ups although a recall was in place that stopped at 2011 vehicles. I had both sets of rear springs replaced as a precaution in may of 2017 at my expense. As of last week. A left rear spring has again broke in the vicinity of the gas tank and I am again being told that there is no recall in place for 2012 Tacoma's. This truck does not get heavy use or carry heavy loads although I do live on a gravel road. I am having a hard time believing that this repeated problem is not a manufacturing or design defect with a real safety concern given the proximity of the broken spring to the gas tank. The defect was noticed while driving due to a loud clunking sound coming from the left rear of the vehicle.

13 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2011 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 02/26/2018

My 2011tacoma has broken rear leaf springs. They are located above the axle in danger of pucturing gas tank. Toyota has recalled Tacomas from the years 2005-11 for this exact reason. Toyota tells me I don't qualify for the recall, but they can give no reason why I don't qualify.

14 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2007 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 11/01/2017

Called Toyota dealership about a recall (rear leaf springs) they told me there were 2 recalls, but not told to the owners-no notice sent out . They said the other recall is the rotting frame & it would be checked when I bring it in to have the springs replaced, which they had to order( also this has been 30 days ago). (note) this truck is all I have to drive. I checked the frame and it is bad ! there are places that I can poke my finger through the frame. . . If something happens I will come back on the gov. & Toyota for not publicly and formally addressing this issue. I always liked Toyota but I will probably never buy another one. . . . . . .

15 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2016 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 06/25/2017

Received recall notice 17v285000 for rear differential leak. I took the truck to the dealership with less than 9k miles and the truck had the dreaded leak. Dealership grounded the vehicle. It has been over a month and 4 check ins with the dealer and no eta for fix. Called customer service and they cannot give a time for a fix. They have provided a rental vehicle, first a Dodge truck since I had obligations, they provided that for 2 weeks then requested I get a car. I agreed but now it is time for vacation and need a truck again. Called customer service to explain frustration with delay the gave me a case number 1707241363 and stated since I was requesting an immediate fix or for them to purchase a case manager would have to call me within 24 hours. Case manager did not call within 24 hours but did receive a call from the dealership that enterprise had no trucks at this time but as soon as one was available they would provide me with a truck. I called back to customer service and was connected to case manager joan who said, "did the dealership call you? " I explained yes but there must be some confusion. I want my truck back fixed or for them to purchase truck back. She got very loud and unprofessional and stated. " it is a recall and we are only providing loaners and no buybacks". This has made the situation worse and I explained that there are other issues that have been reported to the dealer as well such as transmission not going into gear and squeaky leaf springs. I let them know that I thought Toyota would have had a better plan in place to have the parts available and the length of wait time is unacceptable. Perhaps a class action law suit needs to start now. I had to ask 4 times for her managers name and she finally said she would call me within 1 business day and her name is melinda. This is my first new vehicle for me and not a good feeling.

16 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2005 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 05/12/2017

Toyota frame recall - I have a 2005 Toyota Tacoma with holes and cracks visible in the frame. I can only imagine the damage internally to the frame. Huge chunks of frame rust come from the inside of the frame when pressure washed. The truck was originally purchased and resided in the northeast for the majority of the vehicle's life. The truck was obviously exposed to road salts and as a result the frame has been compromised. The Toyota dealer must be aware of the history of the vehicle as the truck was serviced regularly at Toyota dealerships and third party service centers throughout the northeast. In 2014 Toyota tried to covered up the problem with a "rust inhibitor" which only hide the true damage on the frame. I recently took my truck to autonation Toyota at 2555 colonial blvd, fort myers, FL 33907 phone:(239) 321-5413 for a different recall, the rear springs. I requested the frame be replaced under the recent Toyota frame recall settlement and was simply ignored. I am currently driving my truck as a necessity knowing there may be a catastrophic failure at any time. Toyota has agreed in court to either replace or buy out the vehicles affected. My truck is a danger to myself and others on the road but I can't afford another vehicle. I have taken pictures of the affected areas of the frame as evidence of the damage. Please help!.

17 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2006 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 04/15/2017

Never received recall on the airbags? safety harness in the back seats where my rand kids ride will not tighten up. Leaf-springs bow up in the middle not down? have replaced u-joints more times then on my 97 Ford. Plus carrier bearings because of the leaf springs and stopped driving it because it goes back and forth on the road. My rear end howls and needs replaced because the rear end is higher then the tranny but there has been 7 recalls on this model and only found out about them on line. You must be doing a better job or your fired!!! lol but if you care I thank you but at least make them fix these safety issues, or at least make us aware of them instead of hiding them. Don't let them get away with ripping americans off . To do so is no better then them.

18 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2007 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 03/22/2017

I called Toyota of santa barbara to schedule this recall work to replace the rear leaf springs on my Tacoma. I was told that the parts were on order and I would be called when they came in. I week or more later, I called again and told by a man in the parts department that the parts for the recall were still not in. He asked if I wanted to be put on the waiting list for the recall service. I was surprised to learn that despite my previous call I was not put on the list. The guy I spoke to was unable or unwilling to give me an estimate for when the service could be done, and said the faulty leaf springs could be used without risks. I was unwilling to be so cavalier with the defect and the potential for additional damage to my truck. I explained that when towing my small trailer the suspension bottoms out when hitting a dip or bump, even at slow speeds. I am planning a long camping trip across the west and canada and need this repaired before August 12th.

19 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2006 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 01/01/2017

Took my truck to dealership for leaf spring recall. They checked VIN ,and gave me a courtesy car while they do the wor. They called me later in day and said they wont do it due to my truck being modified (lifted). Now yes my truck is lifted, however there is no modification to the springs. There is blocks in the rear that simply let the springs mount on the top of the block instead of the top of the axle and does not affect or change any dynamics or function to the springs. I dont feel this is right, with this being a life saftey issue. My truck is part of the recall and my springs are week and a saftey hazzard.

20 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2005 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 01/01/2017

I took my Tacoma to dealer to have rear leaf springs inspected per a recall (14v604). . They refused to honor recall because the original owner (I'm second owner) had installed a 2" lift kit. They left me in "limbo" regarding this recall. I do not know, one way or another, if my leaf springs need replacing. This seems like a lousy way to handle a recall.

21 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2011 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 12/15/2016

After recall/ replacement of rear leaf springs, with new 5 leaf units, the truck sags under load, rides as rough w/o cargo compared to prior 3 leaf (thicker) set. The truck was not 4 wheel aligned to spec and Toyota is not verifying this done, the driveline has torsion wrap or jerky-shudder upon full stop now, as if damaged in the process. The truck with side winds and groves in the road immediately after this work and with two different new sets of michelins (changed the same day the suspension work was done), shifted off lane violently. Costco locally says I am the only one who complained about the tires so switched me to higher speed rated ones (but I do not drive at high speeds, I drive conservatively). A locally well regarded tire-alignment shop rechecked the alignment and found it was incorrect though merced Toyota insists it passed their "green" zone on what looked to be off-calibrated hunter machine. From the results of this machine, the service manager and mechanic both stated my truck's frame was damaged (so why bother with alignment?). This was subsequently checked by a body repair shop with proper equipment to be found to be within one dime's thickness different from rail to rail, I. E. No damage whatsoever. Toyota wants me to return to this faulty dealership even though there are two others w/ in 60 miles from merced CA. Toyota refuses to acknowledge the issue, refuses to pay for verifying the dealership's issues. I suspect the spring set used in this recall does not match my version of truck, a trd sport access cab which is 300 lbs more capable in springing if the charts are correct. All combined, the problems are not solved and the ride has become dangerous, one I have to constantly correct, one that follows the ruts in the road and is much much more dangerously sensitive to side wind gusts on the freeways + less load capacity.

23 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2006 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 11/07/2016

Broken rear leaf spring assembly: this problem has been known in Toyotas since the first generation Tacomas but worse in the second generation. The leaf springs aren't properly equipped to handle the towing capacity outlined in the owner's manual and will crack, flatten, or break under too much weight. I was told by the dealer that it needed replaced on 11/7/2016. Toyota addressed this issue in 2007 by releasing a TSB stating that they'd replace the springs on any second-gen Tacoma still under warranty. I bought mine in 2006 and was never told or sent notice of this. I have lived in the same location for over 25 years.

24 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2005 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 10/20/2016

Recall # 14v-604, rear leaf springs recalled. Heartland Toyota in bremerton washington saying they will do work, but not return vehicle in condition they found it. They are refusing to replace the "add-a-leaf" that was put on the truck, on top of the existing, recalled, leaf spring. Heartland has serviced this vehicle for 10 years in its current condition. I was told by a service associate that it is because of a "new service manager," and that they have done the full work many times. In fact, an associate of mine had the same rear leaf springs replaced, and this dealership did replace his "add-a-leaf", returning his vehicle in the condition it was dropped off in. "their liability" was the reason I was given for their only being willing to do an abbreviated job.

25 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2007 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 08/13/2016

I've been waiting on the Toyota dealership to complete my recall for almost 2 years. They told me, back in August of 2016, that it would be a few months until they got the parts in. I called numerous times to get it done but nothing has come of it. The recall is for the rear leaf springs.

26 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 1997 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 08/07/2016

The contact owns a 1997 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that when the vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic for routine maintenance, the technician informed that the sub frame, the left rear wheel, the leaf springs and the chassis were severely corroded and the vehicle was unsafe to be driven. The manufacturer was notified and informed that the corrosion buy back program was no longer valid. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 189,000.

Failure Date: 07/10/2016

Both my truck and my dads truck make model and year and both of the frame are rusting on the frame and frame welds as well as the leaf springs are rusting and starting to flatten out while parked and the drive shaft and the rear differential is starting to rust very quickly as well they are just daily drivers and we keep them very clean and live in florida so we don't have road salt.

28 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2009 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 06/29/2016

I received a notice of recall over a year ago, but only got the actual recall notice about a month ago. I scheduled an appointment to have the rear leaf springs replaced at Toyota of poway. When I arrived for the appointment I was told they did not have the recall parts! I called the Toyota customer experience line and despite what the recall letter said, I was told that the dealership would not have the parts and that the dealership would only do an inspection first. I am complaining because of the in accurate instructions in the recall letter and because the local dealership apparently has no idea how to remedy the issue.

29 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2011 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 06/21/2016

It's been about 8 months since I was first notified of their recall e02 on the rear springs. I was called in for an inspection today (6/21/2016) and told the rear springs need to be replaced. I was told it would be another 6-8 weeks before the parts would be at the dealership and the truck would be fixed. Why does your agency allow safety recalls to drag out for months? why are there no penalties on the manufacturers to give them an incentive to finish a safety recall in a timely fashion?.

30 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2010 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 06/15/2016

Cpsc: 2010 Toyota Tacoma: consumer stated the left rear brake is rubbing against a piece of metal that is attached to the frame. The consumer stated the brake line rubbed against a piece of metal when the springs on the vehicle flexed. The brake line was damaged due to the rubbing and may at some point, rupture. It appeared the damaged brake line, was caused by the defective springs or poor placement of the brake line in relationship to the piece of metal.

After receiving notice of rear leaf spring defect, I contacted Toyota dealership in brookhaven, ms in June of 2016. Manager said springs were on backorder and they would notify me when they could repair! since I have received 3 or 4 NHTSA recall 14v-604 notices, I would think the springs would be available after 10 months of waiting! what am I to do if a spring beaks???? I have not heard a word from this dealership!!!!!.

32 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2009 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 06/10/2016

Safety recall e02- rear leaf springs. Customer: loren williams took car to Toyota richardson in richardson TX for brake and recall repair in June 2016. They gladly fixed the breaks for $600 bucks, but had to order parts for the recall and call me when ready. Left a bad review on their requested customer survey because it felt like a "bait and switch" . Was called by svc dept manager. He assured me that they would order the parts and call me. I never got the call. I called them on March 2, 2017 to find the status of parts, and no parts were ordered. No guarantee that they will honor the safety recall. I have attached a copy of the 1st page of the invoice documenting that the truck was delivered for the repairs that I have mentioned above.

33 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2009 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 04/30/2016

Lack of alignment during Toyota safety recall e02 / NHTSA recall id 14v 604 I am concerned with the lack of vehicle alignment as an included part of e02 post replacement of the rear spring packs. When the rear springs are removed from the vehicle, the rear axle often shifts such that is it no longer in the same position as it was previously installed. Thus the vehicle is no longer properly aligned, as front toe is set based on the thrust angle of the rear axle. The thrust angle is derivative of the alignment of the axle relative to the longitudinal axis of the vehicle, and creates a moment about the yaw axis of the vehicle. Re-alignment of the front of the vehicle provides corrective measure by setting front wheel toe to account for the position of the rear axle, thus ensuring the vehicle tracks correctly and is stable during dynamic maneuvers. When the Tacoma first entered the servicing dealer it was confirmed to be correctly aligned. However, the pre-alignment numbers on the hunter expressalign sheet show that the rear axle position after performing e02 has shifted -0. 15° [iso] about its vertical axis relative to the position prior to rear spring replacement. Failure to have the Tacoma realigned would have resulted in the need to counter-steer the vehicle to maintain a straight trajectory during normal operation. It is unacceptable that the customer should be expected to bear the burden of cost for the alignment, when it is necessitated by the corrective actions prescribed by Toyota during e02. Failure to re-align vehicles becomes a safety concern, namely due to uneven tire wear and the potential for instability of the vehicle due to misaligned axles causing the vehicle to increase tendencies to over-steer. I am disappointed in Toyota's apparent disregard for owner safety and feel this is an issue that should be addressed with urgency.

I received the recall notice for this vehicle. I took the vehicle in for repair. The dealer said I had the proper springs on the vehicle and no repair was needed. I find this hard o believe since rear leafspring broke on this vehicle when it was approx. 2 yrs. Old. How then could it have the proper springs?.
