37 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2010 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 02/01/2016

Recall number 14v604 - rear suspension leaf springs. One of the leafs on the drivers side rear spring has broke and moved out of position and is hitting the rear brake line. Please see photos attached. I spoke with Toyota and after some extensive dialog have been assured that when I take it to the dealer and it is confirmed that the spring is indeed broke, that the dealer will temporarily remedy the defect at no cost to me. Additionally, when Toyota has a remedy for the above mentioned recall, I will be notified and the vehicle will be repaired to satisfy the recall. I bring attention to it on this site as the recall mentions only that the leaf could hit the fuel tank; this is to show that it could also hit the brake line which is an additional safety issue. Thank you.

39 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2009 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 01/18/2016

Received letter from Toyota 2 years ago about leaf spring recall. At this point my leaf springs have weakened to the point of not being able to haul anything in the bed. Even driving down the interstate every bump or dip I hit in the road my truck now bottoms out. I contacted Toyota on 1/18/2016 with a complaint about the weakened state of the springs and my concern that they may break at anytime and also the fact of what else will be weakened, wore out or broke by the time the recall is ready. I received an email several days later stating that the recall was not ready and apologized for my inconvenience and frustrations. I believe they have had ample enough time to manufacture the parts and start bringing them in for repair. I was told the recall would be ready in early 2016. We are now into March and I cannot go any longer with the weakened state of the springs. I have asked the dealers and they cannot even tell me any information on this problem. I have already filed a complaint with Toyota about this issue and it is under file #1601210129. This has been an issue with my truck around the 50,000 mile mark and I have just chalked it up as parts becoming weak and wore out over time. I had plans to add a leaf to the rear suspension to bring the ride back to were it once was. Since the recall has came out I gave up that idea and have been waiting impatiently since. Like I said something needs to be done they have had ample enough time to correct this issue.

40 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2009 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 01/08/2016

My 2009 Toyota Tacoma has been under recall for the rear leaf springs since 2014. I have called the dealership monthly to find out if/when the repairs are going to begin! there is still no resolution to this safety issue on this vehicle! this is unacceptable!.

41 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2010 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 01/07/2016

I recently purchased a used 2010 Toyota Tacoma. I was informed that there is a safety recall (NHTSA reference id 14v604) on the rear leaf springs. The recall was issued in September 2014 and Toyota has still not developed a remedy for this safety issue. Does the NHTSA have any recourse to compel Toyota to develop a remedy? the recall has been issued for more than one year and there is still no remedy.

42 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2013 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 01/03/2016

At around 40,000 miles my tires started cupping, I put on new tires with wheel alignment, at 55,000 miles I noticed my rear had a harder ride than usual and seemed to bottom out on bumps. Again with 85,000 miles (30k on new tires) tires were cupped and realized it after I spun out in the rain. I went to the mechanic and he said you have weak rear leaf springs and 1 leaf broken close to gas tank, he said there was a leaf spring recall on the 2011's and prior with 3 leaf packs (which I have) , 2 sets of tires and now springs cost me thousands, why aren't all Tacomas with 3 pack leaf springs recalled?.

43 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2007 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 01/01/2016

Rear leaf spring recall, Toyota has failed to repair. This recall is over a year with "no repair available" over a year to receive a second notice indicating Toyota is searching for parts still. This is a safety hazard every time vehicle is driven. Leaf springs are rusted and could fail. Why no corrective action and still no date available to correct?.

44 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2010 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 12/19/2015

Experiencing a clunking and banging from the rear of my truck that matches the description listed in the recall letter we received pertaining to the failure of rear leaf springs on our 2010 Toyota Tacoma trd. On visual inspection, found that some of the leaf plates have moved out of position which can develop into a dangerous situation. We live 50 miles from the closest Toyota dealership and may need to have the vehicle towed because of the safety issues. We only have the one vehicle and because of family/medical matters, would need some type of loaner vehicle if our truck is to be kept by the service dept. For more than one day.

45 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2006 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 11/25/2015

Took truck in for frames inspection--dealer says I get a new frame--no cost. Dealer is backing out of their word because campaign ended 3 months later--was told campaign would be good for several more year. Service adviser never checked ending date. Emergency brake cables are rusted again--fixed several times--poor product. Rear differential cover plug rusted beyond able to remiove to change fluid--another huge rust issue with Tacoma trucks--not just the frame. The steering mechanism, timing belt pulleys, wiring supports, etc --anything that is metal is corroded because of the poor quality of steel--just not the frame. The timing pulleys were so corroded that they cut my bel--lucky for me it still had 50% of it remaining and did not blow engine--truck had 63,000 miles on it at time. Told to bring truck in for rear springs campaign--I did--they don't have the in stallion kits--been back ordered for months. Campaign says they could rupture the gas tank and end in disaster--any you don't have parts!!!.

Received recall notice from Toyota over 2 years ago regarding replacement of rear springs, however to this date nothing has been done regarding this recall. Very disturbing that no action has not been taken. However, I am not having any visable or mechanical problems that I can detect.

49 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2002 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 08/07/2015

I drive a 2002 Toyota Tacoma. Heard a clunking noise I thought was a loose pick up bed (shortly after driving on the highway at legal but high speed coming home from work). Stopped and noted my truck frame had broken in two places over the rear axel and gas tank area. The broken side of the frame was just sitting loosely on the l rear leaf springs. Luckily I stopped to check the pickup bed. I could have been involved in a serious accident or even killed or what's worse could have lost control and hurt someone else. I know Toyota has had significant frame quality control issues with these model Tacomas in the past. I did have a frame check in Dec. 2010 on a recall notice and it was fine. Was told by the dealership no further action was needed. Now I find after talking to Toyota corporate, the frame should have been undercoated at that time. (they claim to have sent 5 letters advising me of this…. None of which I received, and I am the original owner at the same address for the past 16 years). Looking at the internet forms concerning Tacomas, I am not the only one to have been given this cock and bull story. Why would I have not taken the truck in for protective undercoating if informed by Toyota after all ready responding to a recall inspection only a few weeks earlier?. This is a potentially dangerous situation and could cause catastrophic problems. I think Toyota corp is directly responsible for this situation by originally installing defective frames then not following through on recalls or service bulletins properly and actually stone walling owners calling with complaints about the defective frames with an extended 15 year warranty.

52 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2009 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 03/23/2015

Toyota is not addressing the Tacoma rear leaf spring safety recall in a reasonable time. I was notified of the leaf spring recall in the fall of 2014. In March of 2015 I took my 2009 Tacoma to the dealer to investigate excessive noise coming from the rear of the truck. Dealer service department determined that one of the leaf springs had fractured and needed to be replaced per the safety recall. Dealer ordered the replacement springs but was unable to provide a time when they would be available so the repair could be completed. After nearly a month, still waiting for parts. Calls to both the dealer and Toyota corporate to find out when the parts would be available have been fruitless. Both state that the replacement leaf springs are unavailable and will not provide a date when they will be available. Given the length of time that Toyota has known about this safety issue, I find that this is lack of repair parts and addressing this safety issue is unacceptable especially for owners such as myself who are known to have fractured leaf springs. Recommend that NHTSA investigate with Toyota as to why this safety recall is not being addressed in a prompt manner.

54 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2006 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 02/18/2015

Well have spent my 2nd day on the phone with Toyota about my truck. I have talked to mechanic and head of service at local dealer, larry and robie from ernie palmer Toyota, gary, rosa and daysha from Toyota corp hq, nicole case manager called me today. Needless to say the recalled springs on my truck have not been replaced even though their recall letter plainly states that if your vehicle is clunking and banging from the rear end get to a dealer immediately for repair because they could puncture my fuel tank causing fire. If they fail driving it could cause alot more than a fire. The original mechanic told me that it was definitely associated with the recall but they did not have parts to repair and I would be notified as soon as they came in. I have never been called for the repairs and it months later. I have spent the past two days on the phone with them trying to get this situation resolved and was told that I needed to return to the dealership again because they noted in the computer that I was in for noise in the rear end and did not specifically state that it was because of the recall. Now I ask why would they leave me in a open repair order and tell me it was due to the rear leaf spring recall if I just came in for noise. The service dept told me today on the phone with corp that they just lube the springs if they make noise. My husband said that is for squeaking not for banging and clunking and he agreed. I am still aggravated that the repairs have not been made and I still have to go back to the dealer and let them inspect it again even though it is dangerous to drive. This makes no sense. I will be told again that they do not have remedy parts and will have to wait until they get the parts in for repair. I told them I do not care if they put in another set of recalled springs in my truck that were new just to get me thru until they have the replace parts.

56 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2010 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 01/26/2015

Recall for rear leaf spring - NHTSA recall 14v-604. "rear suspension system contains leaf springs that are constructed of either three or four leaves. There is a possibility that a leaf could fracture due to stress and corrosion. If this occurs and the vehicle continues to be operated, the broken leaf could move out of position and contact surrounding components, including the fuel tank. If the broken leaf contacts the fuel tank repeatedly, it could puncture the tank and cause a fuel leak. In the presence of an ignition source, this could result in a fire. " we have been trying to get this resolved on our vehicle for the past 4 years. Toyota has been contacted by us numerous times and they continue to say they will contact the Toyota headquarters to get this resolved. Our vehicle was shipped to gambia, west africa in 2014, before receiving this recall, for our personal use there. The Toyota dealership in the gambia, cfao, told us that if Toyota would ship the part to them, they would install it in our vehicle. Toyota has been notified several times over the past 4 years and they continue to say they will forward the request to their headquarters (in japan?), but we have never received any response to these requests and, therefore, the status of our vehicle is still recall incomplete. According to the recall letters received, it says that any authorized Toyota dealer will inspect, and if necessary, replace the leaf springs at no charge to us. We want this part to be shipped to the Toyota dealer in the gambia, west africa: cfao Toyota, mamadi maniyang hwy, kanifing, gambia. Their phone number 220-439-6906 and fax number 220-439-6687.

57 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2006 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 01/14/2015

Got recall notice in December of 2014 for defective rear leaf springs. Also got notice in December of 2014 of service campaign to fix corrosion on frame of vehicle. Called dealer was told to come in for inspection. Dealer determined that my frame was in very bad condition corrosion and rust and that I would need to have the frame replaced. Said they would fix and replace the rear leaf srings at the same time they replace frame this inspection took place on wed January 14th 2015. My truck has very low mileage its a 2006 and I have only 60,000 miles on it. After waiting months to hear from dealer I called Toyota, they told me in April that they wer still waiting for parts. I filed a case number with Toyota, called them back on June 15th 2015 after hearing nothing from them. Now on June 15th 2015 they tell me they are still waiting for parts. Meanwhile the safety recall says that the rear leaf spring could snap and rupture my gas tank. I need help with this.

59 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2006 Toyota Tacoma

We do not want any employee getting heart because of this problem. We need to get this truck back in service ASAP. We have this truck registered and can't use it.

60 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2010 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 12/01/2014

Received a safety recall notice from Toyota for the rear leaf spring on 12/1/2014. It states the leaf springs can rust, fail and accidentally puncture the gas tank causing a fire. They have yet to produce a remedy and continue to stall instead of taking action to fix the problem. This could ultimately be a life threatening situation and Toyota continues to delay. I do not feel Toyota has the customers best interest in mind and are purely stalling for monetary reasons.

61 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2007 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 11/30/2014

Both rear leaf springs failed in November 2014. The outer leaf of both rear springs fractured. I replaced the leaf springs with an after market suspension system which included rear leaf springs. This was before the Toyota leaf spring recall. Toyota just denied my claim for reimbursement stating that the after market leaf springs are not the part that was covered by the recall. They stated that after market parts are not eligible for reimbursement. Based on what I have read of the law, I don't believe this to be a valid reason for denial of reimbursement.

62 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2009 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 11/14/2014

In September 2014 a recall was announced on my style 2009 Toyota Tacoma pick up because the rear leaf springs could corrode and break. On November 14, 2014, I received a recall notice letter from Toyota that my vehicle was being recalled due to this issue. I have contacted Toyota manufacturing company on numerous occasions only to be told "we are working on it" (replacing the springs). That is the only answer I have ever received. Even their website states "we are working on it". I want to know when these springs will be replaced on my vehicle!!!.

63 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2006 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 11/04/2014

Replaced rear leaf spring as it was broken and sticking out side of retainer. I paid for this. Received a Toyota recall of defective rear spring notice on August 2014. Have not received another notice for spring replacement. Another spring problem with retainer clip broken in 2015. Durand Toyota said they could not replace springs until I received second notice but would have to weld spring in place unti second notice is received. This is a major safety issue and I request it be addressed immediately by Toyota.

64 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2010 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 11/03/2014

Received letter from Toyota in November of 2014 about a pending safety recall to my Toyota Tacoma. The letter stated that there was a defect in the rear leaf springs that could cause the leaf to break and rupture the gas tank. The letter stated that an additional recall notice would be mailed to me when parts are available. Today may 22, 2015 (7) months later, I contacted Toyota and was informed the parts are not available. Toyota has failed to remedy the defect within a reasonable amount of time.

65 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2005 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 10/20/2014

Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer for a routine inspection and the mechanic noticed that the rear leaf springs fractured. The vehicle was repaired under NHTSA campaign id number: 14v604000 (suspension). However, after the repair was performed the rear end of the vehicle began to lower towards the ground. In addition, the vehicle swerved out of the lane independently whenever driving. The recall part installed in the vehicle was the incorrect size. The vehicle was not repaired for most recent failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 174,764. Rw.

66 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2004 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 10/15/2014

My 2004 Tacoma has ~127,500 miles and has been subject to frame corrosion and spare tire retainer corrosion recalls. My dealer recently advised that the left rear leaf spring is broken which is resulting in an unpredictable response when driving, especially in 4wd in snowy weather. This lack of steering control is a safety issue. I believe this fracture is directly linked to the corrosion issues in the Tacoma frame and suspension design on the Tacoma. Toyota USA has reviewed the case and is unwilling to cover the cost of the leaf spring repairs. This is despite an extensive recall on 2005+up Tacoma's for distressed leaf springs.

67 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2006 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 10/14/2014

We had started hearing a clunk and bang in the rear end of my vehicle back in sept 2014. We tried to locate the problem thinking maybe it was something under the seats in the storage compartments. We could not elevate the problem. We then received a recall notice about rear leaf springs and called the dealer where we bought the vehicle. They told us to come in immediately. We went in and they read my recall and inspected the truck. The mechanic told his boss that someone had come in the week before with the same problem and they could not figure out what it was and told his boss to expect them back with their truck and notice soon. We were then told that my notice was an interim notice and they would place a work order for my truck and let me know when the parts came in. I expressed my concerns as the letter states that they could break and puncture brake lines or the fuel tank. I explained to them that this was my only transportation and was told they would receive the parts soon. That was back in October. They have yet to receive the parts and now it is banging and clunking on both sides constantly. I called today 2/15/2015 and they told me they still don't have the parts. I was told they would call when they came in. I told them if I was still alive. He told me he didn't think it was that drastic. I said well the letter states it could break and puncture the fuel tank. If I am going 70 on the interstate and it punctures the tank that more than likely it would catch on fire. He said to call corp and gave me a 1 800 number. Well needless to say my truck still is not fixed and there is no telling when these parts are going to come in. I don't care if they have to put new recalled parts in my truck as long as I would be safe until they got the new improved parts. At least I would no that I would not get killed or kill someone else.

68 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2009 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 09/29/2014

Nhtsa recall number: opens new window takes away from VIN lookup section> 14v604 recall date: September 29, 2014 manufacturer recall number: e02 this recall has been ongoing since 9/2014 and nothing has been done. When are you going to force Toyota to do something about this dangerous condition? supposedly they are working on a solution, but, when you live in the west and rely on your vehicle for firewood gathering, etc. . . Traveling down rough country dirt roads, then you need to be sure your vehicle is going to stand up to the test of living in the west. Are you at the NHTSA going to do anything about forcing Toyota to take action on their vehicles, or sit around and do nothing? it has now been over 2 years since this recall was started and still nothing is being done about it. Please respond to my questions and let me know what you plan on doing!!!!!! I did receive a 2nd notice regarding the recall from Toyota, saying they would have the remedy in place in the early part of 2016, but now it is almost September (2 years) and still nothing is done about the rear leaf springs. Please advise!!!!!!.

69 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2011 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 09/01/2014

After nearly two years, the recall is incomplete and I'm beginning to have issues with the rear leaf springs in general. Two years is absurd! I need to replace the rear shocks as well but don't want to do anything that might possibly mess up the recall fix, if it's . Ever completed. The defect from that caused the springs, I believe, is also causing the rear springs to fail overall.

70 Rear Suspension Springs problem of the 2007 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 09/01/2014

After purchasing this truck used in sept 2014, my mechanic noticed that the driver's side rear leaf spring was missing half of one of the leaves. I contacted Toyota and was told there was no recall program, even though the internet revealed numerous other owners with similar problems. Since Toyota offered no assistance what so ever, I purchased an after market spring replacement kit, and upgraded the entire suspension. In 2016, Toyota notified me of a NHTSA recall 14v-604, dealing with broken leaf springs, my exact problem. Since I had already repaired the problem at my own cost, I submitted the invoices for the suspension kit, and my mechanic's invoice. They have continually requested additional and unnecessary paper work, including a separate detailed letter from my mechanic. One it has been almost 2 years, and two he is no longer in business. I would have been happy to comply with these requirements when the repairs were performed, but of course Toyota was denying responsibility at that time. This is merely an effort to delay and avoid payment under the recall plan. I am not trying to get Toyota to pay for other unrelated parts and repairs, only the rear leaf springs and labor to replace. Every time I call Toyota, they say they will take care of it, and then a month later I get the same robo letter requesting the same unreasonable info that I can't provide over 2 years later. I would file a complaint with the bbb, but Toyota has an "f" rating, so obviously they have no concern for customer safety or satisfaction.
