There is currently a safety recall on my vehicle that has no remedy available. There is a risk of having brake hoses rupturing and losing braking fluid, causing a no brakes situations and high risk for an accident. I reached out to the dealership and was provided with no information on how to resolve the situation, but was referred to their company's headquarters. Once I reached out to their representative, I was informed that the estimated time to provide a potential repair would be about 3 months. Essentially I was given the option of either driving the vehicle and expose myself and others to a vehicle incident or store my vehicle until there is a remedy provided, but still incur the costs of the vehicle, namely paying the vehicle loan.
The vehicle is a 2024 Toyota Tacoma sr5 that was later traded for a 2025 Tacoma sr5 due to a serious safety defect involving the rear brake lines. The problem is the same one described in Toyota’s recall: the rear brake hoses can be damaged by debris, resulting in brake fluid loss and potential brake failure. The safety risk was significant. The vehicle was used to transport a young child, and because the brake lines could fail without warning, the truck could not be safely operated for daily driving. Multiple franchised Toyota dealerships confirmed that they had no remedy parts available for several months and that the repair could not be performed. This left the vehicle without a functional safety repair for an extended period. The manufacturer’s public statements indicated that a fix existed, but dealerships consistently stated the opposite. No alternate transportation, loaner vehicle, or temporary replacement was provided during this period. The defect was not reproducible by driving because of the risk involved, but the safety issue was acknowledged by dealerships who stated that the recall was active and unresolved. The vehicle was effectively unusable for normal safe operation. No warning lights appeared on the dashboard; the hazard is related to the physical brake line design and exposure to debris rather than an electronic sensor. The vehicle was inspected by multiple Toyota dealerships, all of whom confirmed that no repair could be performed at the time. The component was not replaced, repaired, or made safe before the vehicle was traded out of due to the unresolved safety defect. The situation caused substantial safety concerns and financial hardship and appears to reflect a wider problem in remedy availability for this recall.
The contact owns a 2024 Toyota Tacoma. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 25v058000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The contact called the local dealer, who confirmed that parts were only ordered once per week, and there were nine customers ahead of him on the waiting list. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The contact had not experienced a failure.

They have informed me once regarding the recall via email and when getting routine service the service department was aware of recall and stated to just not drive my truck in 4x4 mode. That's why I bought this truck. The 4x4 mode.

Brake failure resulting from rusted brake lines. Vehicle has not been inspected by manufacturer police or any other entity. No warning lamps or other indicators that detected brake failure.
Stopping at a stop light, after coming to a complete stop, vehicle will want to slowly creep forward and you need to press a little harder on the brake pedal. If you don't pay attention, you will creep into the vehicle in front of you. I am in the transmission TSB range.
The contact owns a 2018 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated while inside the vehicle, there was brake fluid leaking from above the brake pedal. Additionally, while driving, the brake pedal had to be firmly depressed to stop the vehicle. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that there was a brake booster leak inside the cab, and it was determined that the brake booster and brake master cylinder needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired and remained at the dealer. The contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 18v888000 (service brakes, hydraulic); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.

I have had below issue at 57000 miles on my Tacoma. I was told by the dealer that I am not under the warranty, and coporate that there is no recall for my truck by search VIN, but its clear im experiencing the same issues as below and seeing other videos on youtube experiencing the same issue, so its clear this truck was built with the same defects. The plano, texas-based manufacturer sent a safety recall report to the national highway traffic safety administration (NHTSA) stating they will recall 6,046 2018 Toyota camry, 2018 Toyota highlander, 2017 Toyota sienna, 2017 Toyota Tacoma, and 2017 Lexus rx350 vehicles built between oct. 2 and Nov. 3, 2017. Toyota stated in the report the affected vehicles contain brake booster vacuum pump assemblies with improperly machined oil galleys. The vacuum pump is supplied oil from the engine to seal and lubricate the pump vane’s movement. The defect can cause oil to not properly circulate through the system, eventually breaking the pump vane and causing potentially dangerous braking assist loss.
Brake oil leak from brake booster. Oil goes into the cab and oil leaks behind the break pedal onto the floor mat.
When stopping vehicle (for instance, at a stop light), vehicle would stop normally when pressing the brakes, but after a few seconds, the vehicle would start forward again. The brake pedal would give way and press down further, stopping briefly before starting forward again - so I had to use the emergency brake or else vehicle would move into oncoming traffic. I consulted a mechanic, and it was diagnosed as a bad brake master cylinder. This vehicle has only 51,000 miles on it, being a 2021 model. The brake pads themselves were checked and they are fine. I replaced the master cylinder and it fixed the issue, but I wouldn't expect this unsafe condition to already be happening to this vehicle, especially this early in life. Toyota must have defective brake master cylinders.

The contact owns a 2024 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that the gas cap failed to close securely and was loose. Additionally, the contact received notifications of NHTSA campaign numbers: 25v058000 (service brakes, hydraulic) and 25v595000 (electrical system); however, the parts to do the recall repairs were not yet available. The contact stated that the instrument panel was blank at start-up. The contact also stated that the infotainment system screen was blank intermittently while driving, which required the driver to pull over to the side of the road to turn off and restart the vehicle. The dealer was contacted several times for the recall repairs, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure by voicemail message. The failure mileage was approximately 80.
The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated while driving 60 mph, the steering wheel failed to move as intended and the vehicle became difficult to maneuver. An unknown warning light was illuminated. The contact continued driving at a slow speed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who determined that the pinion steering gear failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that on a separate occasion while driving 40 mph, there was an abnormal revving sound coming from the engine. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who determined that the engine was leaking oil and the entire braking system needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.

The brake system is leaking fluid in the cab of the truck creating a safety hazard; the brake fluid is a slick oily substance that can potentially inhibit the application of the braking system when the foot is applied to the pedal with the brake fluid on the pedal or picked up on the bottom of the foot.
Brakes pedal inside car was dripping brake fluid and there was a loss of power when breaking. The vehicle was taken to a Toyota dealership and they diagnosed the problem as a failure of the brake master cylinder (part # 47050-04180). There was no warning lamp or messages of the problem prior to brakes having loss of power when breaking and fluid dripping from brake pedal inside of vehicle.

Brake fluid leaking into the cab floor of 2019 Toyota Tacoma. VIN not listed on NHTSA list. Toyota refuses to believe this is the same issue as recall, as per yemi at 10:48am on sept 18, 2024 Toyota corporate call 1-800-331-4331. Brake master cylinder diagnosed by independent, non-bias mechanic "diagnosed brake fluid seeping through dust seal inside cabin running down shaft connecting the pedal to assembly, fluid is of consistency of the brake fluid required by system, fluid level is low at this time, if pedal is pumped 5 times and held down there is visible drip from the rod to pedal connection, needs master cyl. Assembly and exhibits same issues and description of fault as set forth in the recall notice. Customer advised to seek manufacturer assistance. " previous examination by local Toyota dealer was fluid leaking from steering column.
Hope to be able to get this solved. My 2008 Toyota Tacoma had a recall with the previous owner but they didn't take it in. On the rear section of the frame on the inside beside the gas tank and on the driver side there is a lot of rust there the frame has expanded and is starting to go all away through also same place back beside the muffler on the passenger side. Also there are a few spots on the front part of the frame under the fire wall area on both sides. I had a recall on the truck and took it in and had it fixed which Toyota replaced the leaf springs on both sides and hardware. Says there was a recall when the previous owner had the truck. Will they validate that still? I've owned the truck almost a year now. But it's getting worse. Within a year I'm gonna have to park it because it liable to possible break in half. Toyota should of let me known when they had it on the lift replacing the rear leaf springs. Not my fault the previous owner didn't take the truck in to have them look at it.
Hello NHTSA, I'm writing to you about a safety design concern (not a complaint, no incident happened) on my 2024 Toyota Tacoma. The rear brake lines are routed inside the wheel and have approximately 3/4" clearance. There is no room for error and brake failure may occur very easily with the line getting damage, even by removing and installing the wheel. My concern is safety for my family and self with future brake related failure. I contacted Toyota and their response was that they haven't heard of an incident and to take to the dealer. I'm sure the dealer will charge me for the visit and say there are no recalls and nothing damaged.
The other day I was slowing down on an off-ramp and all the sudden had no brakes, or at least no power brakes for maybe 30 feet and then all of the sudden power assist came back and slammed hard on the brakes. If there would have been a car at the stop sign I would have rear ended them. Pavement was dry, no abs light, no codes, everything has been normal since then. I have noticed that the electronic brake booster on this truck "cycles" every few brake applications resulting in inconsistent braking power, which is especially noticeable at low speeds. I have been told this is normal for these trucks. Has not been inspected by anyone as I cannot replicate the issue.

Brake master cylinder is leaking into the lower dash area and onto the floor mats.
Twice, while backing out of my driveway, the brakes have locked up. The brakes stay locked until you tap them repetitively for a few minutes. Then the brakes will slowly release while going forward, but only lock up again when put in reverse. The vehicle cannot be driven until the next day, then it performs normally. Luckily this happened in my driveway before I got on to the street. When the brakes lock, it is violent, throwing me against the seat back. The vehicle has been to two different dealers, but they could not duplicate the issue. When this happens multiple brake warning messages pop up on the dash. The manufacture has not inspected the vehicle. In fact, when I reported it to them, and sent pictures of the warning messages, they insinuated that the pictures were not from my vehicle. The manufacture stated that they do not consider this a safety issue. I do not feel safe driving this vehicle. If the brakes lock while out on the hi-way it could cause an accident.

Approximately 100 feet from the vehicle, I rear end of the car in front of me. When I hit the brake pedal it didn’t seem like it stopped the vehicle I ran into another car and totaled the Toyota Tacoma. Conditions for dry and cloudy and road construction nearby.
The electrohydraulic brake booster leak a brake fluid in the driver side cabin near to brake pedal. . This brake fluid leak touch DE floor paint and cause rust on the metal floor… eventually make the warning light on on dash panel and canceling brake functions and another think on brake system . . Is a brake fail dangerous. . To much Tacoma owners report that fails but Toyota USA solution is replace a part but out of warranty . .
The brake master cylinder is leaking to the inside of the cab floor.
Leaking of brake fluid from brake master cylinder into driver footwell.
I have started to notice that my 2017 Toyota Tacoma off-road has started to leak what seems brake fluid on my carpet. After inspecting my vehicle, I have noticed that the leak is coming from the brake master cylinder. This situation has me worried now that this could lead to a serious accident. There is an apparent recall for this same exact issue for the 2018-2019 Tacoma models but, not for the 2017 model year.
Brake system is leaking fluid into the cab, and collects on the floor mat. Brake fluid level has dropped below minimum cold level. Mileage 42,164 leaking brake fluid can cause decreased brake performance, or complete failure of the braking system. Which can result in loss of vehicle control and collisions with other vehicles, structures, or pedestrians. The dealer has not yet confirmed the issue. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by anyone other than the owner (myself). No warning lamps or messages. Leaking brake fluid was seen on the driver floor mat within the last few months, and continues.
At 55,000 miles brake fluid began leaking into passenger cabin. Brake fluid leaks on to brake pedal and driver footwell. Obviously a safety issue and dealer is asking approx 2000 dollars to repair. Failing component is a brake master cylinder that is specific to the off road and trd pro Tacomas that have a traction control feature called “crawl” for off road use. After an online search, this issue seems common in these models.

Brake pedal spongy and when pushed and held it continuously goes slowly to the floor. I believe the recall for the master cylinder should have been extended back further.
