When stopping vehicle (for instance, at a stop light), vehicle would stop normally when pressing the brakes, but after a few seconds, the vehicle would start forward again. The brake pedal would give way and press down further, stopping briefly before starting forward again - so I had to use the emergency brake or else vehicle would move into oncoming traffic. I consulted a mechanic, and it was diagnosed as a bad brake master cylinder. This vehicle has only 51,000 miles on it, being a 2021 model. The brake pads themselves were checked and they are fine. I replaced the master cylinder and it fixed the issue, but I wouldn't expect this unsafe condition to already be happening to this vehicle, especially this early in life. Toyota must have defective brake master cylinders.

The contact owns a 2008 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated while driving 60 mph, the steering wheel failed to move as intended and the vehicle became difficult to maneuver. An unknown warning light was illuminated. The contact continued driving at a slow speed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who determined that the pinion steering gear failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that on a separate occasion while driving 40 mph, there was an abnormal revving sound coming from the engine. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who determined that the engine was leaking oil and the entire braking system needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the cost. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000.

The brake system is leaking fluid in the cab of the truck creating a safety hazard; the brake fluid is a slick oily substance that can potentially inhibit the application of the braking system when the foot is applied to the pedal with the brake fluid on the pedal or picked up on the bottom of the foot.

Brakes pedal inside car was dripping brake fluid and there was a loss of power when breaking. The vehicle was taken to a Toyota dealership and they diagnosed the problem as a failure of the brake master cylinder (part # 47050-04180). There was no warning lamp or messages of the problem prior to brakes having loss of power when breaking and fluid dripping from brake pedal inside of vehicle.

Brake fluid leaking into the cab floor of 2019 Toyota Tacoma. VIN not listed on NHTSA list. Toyota refuses to believe this is the same issue as recall, as per yemi at 10:48am on sept 18, 2024 Toyota corporate call 1-800-331-4331. Brake master cylinder diagnosed by independent, non-bias mechanic "diagnosed brake fluid seeping through dust seal inside cabin running down shaft connecting the pedal to assembly, fluid is of consistency of the brake fluid required by system, fluid level is low at this time, if pedal is pumped 5 times and held down there is visible drip from the rod to pedal connection, needs master cyl. Assembly and exhibits same issues and description of fault as set forth in the recall notice. Customer advised to seek manufacturer assistance. " previous examination by local Toyota dealer was fluid leaking from steering column.
Hope to be able to get this solved. My 2008 Toyota Tacoma had a recall with the previous owner but they didn't take it in. On the rear section of the frame on the inside beside the gas tank and on the driver side there is a lot of rust there the frame has expanded and is starting to go all away through also same place back beside the muffler on the passenger side. Also there are a few spots on the front part of the frame under the fire wall area on both sides. I had a recall on the truck and took it in and had it fixed which Toyota replaced the leaf springs on both sides and hardware. Says there was a recall when the previous owner had the truck. Will they validate that still? I've owned the truck almost a year now. But it's getting worse. Within a year I'm gonna have to park it because it liable to possible break in half. Toyota should of let me known when they had it on the lift replacing the rear leaf springs. Not my fault the previous owner didn't take the truck in to have them look at it.
Hello NHTSA, I'm writing to you about a safety design concern (not a complaint, no incident happened) on my 2024 Toyota Tacoma. The rear brake lines are routed inside the wheel and have approximately 3/4" clearance. There is no room for error and brake failure may occur very easily with the line getting damage, even by removing and installing the wheel. My concern is safety for my family and self with future brake related failure. I contacted Toyota and their response was that they haven't heard of an incident and to take to the dealer. I'm sure the dealer will charge me for the visit and say there are no recalls and nothing damaged.

The other day I was slowing down on an off-ramp and all the sudden had no brakes, or at least no power brakes for maybe 30 feet and then all of the sudden power assist came back and slammed hard on the brakes. If there would have been a car at the stop sign I would have rear ended them. Pavement was dry, no abs light, no codes, everything has been normal since then. I have noticed that the electronic brake booster on this truck "cycles" every few brake applications resulting in inconsistent braking power, which is especially noticeable at low speeds. I have been told this is normal for these trucks. Has not been inspected by anyone as I cannot replicate the issue.

Brake master cylinder is leaking into the cab, truck has 80k miles on it. Oem replacement part only available through Toyota dealer (part number: 47050-04092) is insane at $1500. No warning indicators, just a puddle of brake fluid on my floor mat.

Twice, while backing out of my driveway, the brakes have locked up. The brakes stay locked until you tap them repetitively for a few minutes. Then the brakes will slowly release while going forward, but only lock up again when put in reverse. The vehicle cannot be driven until the next day, then it performs normally. Luckily this happened in my driveway before I got on to the street. When the brakes lock, it is violent, throwing me against the seat back. The vehicle has been to two different dealers, but they could not duplicate the issue. When this happens multiple brake warning messages pop up on the dash. The manufacture has not inspected the vehicle. In fact, when I reported it to them, and sent pictures of the warning messages, they insinuated that the pictures were not from my vehicle. The manufacture stated that they do not consider this a safety issue. I do not feel safe driving this vehicle. If the brakes lock while out on the hi-way it could cause an accident.

Approximately 100 feet from the vehicle, I rear end of the car in front of me. When I hit the brake pedal it didn’t seem like it stopped the vehicle I ran into another car and totaled the Toyota Tacoma. Conditions for dry and cloudy and road construction nearby.
The electrohydraulic brake booster leak a brake fluid in the driver side cabin near to brake pedal. . This brake fluid leak touch DE floor paint and cause rust on the metal floor… eventually make the warning light on on dash panel and canceling brake functions and another think on brake system . . Is a brake fail dangerous. . To much Tacoma owners report that fails but Toyota USA solution is replace a part but out of warranty . .
The brake master cylinder is leaking to the inside of the cab floor.
Leaking of brake fluid from brake master cylinder into driver footwell.
I have started to notice that my 2017 Toyota Tacoma off-road has started to leak what seems brake fluid on my carpet. After inspecting my vehicle, I have noticed that the leak is coming from the brake master cylinder. This situation has me worried now that this could lead to a serious accident. There is an apparent recall for this same exact issue for the 2018-2019 Tacoma models but, not for the 2017 model year.
Brake system is leaking fluid into the cab, and collects on the floor mat. Brake fluid level has dropped below minimum cold level. Mileage 42,164 leaking brake fluid can cause decreased brake performance, or complete failure of the braking system. Which can result in loss of vehicle control and collisions with other vehicles, structures, or pedestrians. The dealer has not yet confirmed the issue. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by anyone other than the owner (myself). No warning lamps or messages. Leaking brake fluid was seen on the driver floor mat within the last few months, and continues.
At 55,000 miles brake fluid began leaking into passenger cabin. Brake fluid leaks on to brake pedal and driver footwell. Obviously a safety issue and dealer is asking approx 2000 dollars to repair. Failing component is a brake master cylinder that is specific to the off road and trd pro Tacomas that have a traction control feature called “crawl” for off road use. After an online search, this issue seems common in these models.

Brake pedal spongy and when pushed and held it continuously goes slowly to the floor. I believe the recall for the master cylinder should have been extended back further.
The brake system is leaking fluid in the cab of the truck creating a safety hazard; the brake fluid is a slick oily substance that can potentially inhibit the application of the braking system when the foot is applied to the pedal with the brake fluid on the pedal or picked up on the bottom of the foot.
While driving on a freeway I step down on the as needed I got a message on my dash board that my braking power is low stop in a safe place and see owen's manual, a few seconds later I lost my brakes I have to use my hand brak to stop, came to a complete stop and called a tow truck, upon arrival the tow truck driver inspected my truck and realized there were brake fluid leaking out of my back drum, I took it in for a check up and I was told that my brake fluid is coming out of my braking cylinder, I checked for a recall I don't see it for my truck year but see it a the truck that's a few year older.
Break master cylinder leaking.
I was about to park. Press the break pedal in order to move gear to parking. However, my Tacoma accelerated and I was unable to control it. Finally, it stop after hitting a tree.
The brakes completely failed on the vehicle. When inspected the main brake line was found damaged due to the frame of the car being totally corroded and shifting of the mechanical structure. If I were not quick in getting the emergency brake applied, we would have had an uncontrolled crash in traffic and could have potentially been killed. There were no warnings or lights that came on in the vehicle prior to the complete brake failure. The car is currently at a local repair shop and can be inspected if necessary. The frame corrosion was so bad on this car that the repair shop was not comfortable even putting it on a lift as they felt the car frame would break.
The 2018-2019 Toyota Tacomas have been recalled for having a bad master cylinder and leaking internally within the truck. The 2017 Tacomas have the same issue. My 2017 Tacoma has been leaking brake fluid on my floormat. I'm sure I am not the only one having an issue with this and because it involved the brakes it does pose a risk on the road if the brakes were to fail due to a master cylinder that again has been recalled with the 2018-19 Tacomas. Why not include the 2017 Tacomas as well?.
I have noticed brake fluid leaking inside the cab coming from the master cylinder. I see that 2018-2019 models have a defective master cylinder, and a recall has been issued. Truck has 80,000 miles, thinking the 2017 model should be added to the recall. Very unusual for this to be leaking under normal use. Thanks for your time.
Brake fluid leaking into driver-side floorboard. Due to leak in brake master cylinder seal. Recalls have been issued for same year and model, but my truck is not included. I assume mine has a different manufacturing date. Yet my truck has the same problem as those with the recall.
This vehicle has had judder issues since new when braking. It has been in the shop over 10 times for this issue with the last being this week. I conducted an internet search and see other new owners complaining about the same issue with no resolve. I was told I would be getting new rotors and when I picked my vehicle up from Toyota of las vegas on 10/24/24, however, they are only resurfaced, not new. They have been resurfaced 3 times, with the first being performed around 500 miles. With other owners having the same issue when the vehicle is still new, it has to be a defect in the original part. Even though my vehicle is under warranty, Toyota has yet to change this part out. It is a safey issue because it causes judder, sometimes severe while braking. Lastly, my vehicle was one of the first to have the welding debris recall issue. My issue started long before that recall. As you can see, my vehicle has lived in Toyota service centers since purchase and it's getting old. I hope you all can please help. Thank you.
Will not fix the frame. My husband has a 2005 and it looks new compared to my 2012. The last mechanic I used told me not to bring it back to him to much rust. Toyota said it passed their inspection. There is no way. They’ve had my truck almost a yr. I thought they was fixing it. No they just been chilling. They never called me to tell me it was they wouldn’t honor the recall. Nothing. I keep reading on here cold climate states are the only complaints. Someone is lying on here because I know at least 20 Toyota Tacoma owners from texas who have filed incident reports.

The emergency brakes locked up during use and the truck has to be rocked back and forth for the emergency brakes to get unstuck. Did some searching and lots of other Tacoma owners has experienced the same issue.

Truck had to be abandoned after I attempted to start it and the brake pedal was stiff and the ignition would not allow starter to function. Dashboard message indicated a brake problem with transmission interlock. The next day, after viewing a u-tube video on the problem (same make/model/year) I held the starter button in for 12-15 seconds with no foot on the brake. The engine started but the transmission remained locked in park. Tow truck operator was able to release the shifter using an access port and screwdriver and found that he could drive it up onto the inclined platform. Once in place on the platform he shifted to park and found it was again locked. This issue disabled the truck in a traffic area where it could not be started or shifted into neutral to move it. . . A dangerous situation.
When driving the vehicle to work - the brakes failed and the emergency brake had to be used to bring the vehicle to a complete stop. The vehicle had to be towed to a Toyota dealership where it was diagnosed that the master brake cylinder needs to be replaced.
Bought this Tacoma truck new from the dealer. It now has 16,885 miles on the truck and the dealer tells me the front brakes are in the red, bad range, 3/32" or less in thickness and they need to be replaced soon. I believe it's common knowledge that brakes on a new vehicle really ought to last twice that many miles. Now it being a safety issue I was not sure if I should report this type of issue?.
Master cylinder or some part near brake pedal inside the cab is leaking oil or a oil like substance on to floor mats and floor.
