1 Steering Wheel problem of the 2004 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 03/22/2011

Upon inspection from Toyota ,from the dealer bert wolfe Toyota in charleston, wv, the frame on my Tacoma was failed. The result was perforations from rust. I had previously received a letter stating the there was a recall on my truck. The letter stated that it necessary to be inspected for frame corrosion, and that three possible outcomes would arise: 1) upon the passing of the corrosion test an anti-corrosion treatment would be applied and a replacement vehicle would be extended until the treatment was complete. 2) upon the failure of the test (meaning the frame had corrosion) the frame would be replaced, and a replacement vehicle would be rendered. 3) upon failure of the test Toyota may repurchase my vehicle at a price of 150% of the kelly blue book value. None of these outcomes were instituted upon failure of my frame corrosion test. Bert wolfe Toyota failed the frame, stated they would replace the frame , but it would take six months. They placed me back in my truck which failed the test, without a temporary replacement. My complaint is that a) my truck will never be the equivalent, all of the parts that will be taken off and/or replaced and then reinstalled on the new frame, causes for safety concerns. There is a high probability that something will be overlooked in the process of reinstallation. B) that the parts that connect to the frame or located in it's vicinity will corrode eventually causing safety concerns. C) my vehicle failed a test in which the frame is considered unsafe, and I was sent off in that same vehicle without a provisional replacement.

2 Steering Wheel problem of the 2010 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 12/08/2010

I purchased this vehicle brand new in may 2010. I saw a sticker in my door jam that notes modifications to my vehicle had been made to reduce the load carrying capacity. After doing some research I learned there was a recall in February 2010 that led to the modification. When I purchased my vehicle the salesman did not reveal to me there had been a recall or any changes had been made to my vehicle. I contacted the local dealership as well as the headquarters office on 12/08/2010, 01/06/2011, & 01/13/2011. They gave me a case number & told me after the 3rd attempt to call there was nothing else they could do. To this very date I still can not get anyone @ the local dealership or Toyota headquarters to return my call in reference to this. I am still not clear on what modifications were made & how it impacts my vehicle. I am not happy with the treatment I have received from Toyota and feel if they sold me a faulty vehicle that it should be taken back.

3 Steering Wheel problem of the 2007 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 08/31/2009

I bought this truck new and purchased the optional anti-corrosion system at the time of the sale. At the 2-year check required by warranty, I noticed corrosion in the vicinity of the rear bumper and frame. The dealer, atkins-kroll Toyota on guam, submitted this concern to the maker of the system, who denied any responsibility because I used the truck to haul scuba diving equipment. We have subsequently engaged with atkins-kroll directly, and they have failed to fix the problem, claiming they need to consult with their headquarters to determine if this is covered under warranty. Meanwhile, my bumper has corroded through on the right side and separated from the frame. The majority of the corrosion is in the bumper and a crossbar at the rear of the truck bed. All the hardware in the bed has corroded as well, even though I fresh water rinse my truck bed every time after I haul dive gear (I have done this since purchasing the truck). There does not appear to be any appreciable corrosion beneath the forward portions of the bed, just the back. A fellow dive instructor with a 2005 Tacoma pre-runner experienced the same thing, and his bumper completely came off. I understand earlier Tacomas (I believe 1999-2004) were recalled for similar corrosion issues. I am convinced this corrosion is due to a materiel defect, a design flaw, or both but I have not been able to get conclusive action from the Toyota dealer to date. When I contacted Toyota's corporate headquarters they said they could not help me, that I had to work this out with the dealer. It is just not right and, more important, just not safe.

4 Steering Wheel problem of the 2001 Toyota Tacoma

Failure Date: 06/08/2004

Truck 'wanders' and won't track straight without continuous correction with the steering wheel. Especially bad when hitting bumps or on 'rain grooves' or other uneven surfaces. Difficult to maintain lane discipline and especially scary in construction zones with narrow lanes and concrete dividers nearby. Had front end aligned (no help), new tires put on (no help), new shocks installed (no help), tires balanced (nicer ride, but still 'wandered'), front end aligned again (minor improvement) and finally some new tires (again. . . No help. ) there is 'play' in the steering wheel and there is a recall and a TSB from Toyota for this year and model truck for 'worn lower ball joints'. But when inquiring with two different dealers, I was told both times that "my" truck was not affected. It sure feels affected!.
