1 Tire Sidewall problem of the 2022 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 03/20/2025

Tire size 265/60r20. All tires have cracked around the bead of the rim. This was discovered at 24,663 miles during regularly scheduled maintenance at copeland Toyota in brockton, MA on March 20, 2025. Defective manufacturing suspected. Upon further investigation of this tire model on the internet, I discovered dozens of reports of the same sidewall failure by Toyota Tundra owners with very low mileage. I contacted bridgestone support on March 20, and per their instruction, took the vehicle to a bridgestone authorized dealer (firestone complete auto care, warren Ave. Brockton, MA) on March 21. The inspection determined that the tires have failed. The technician indicated that bridgestone has very limited inventory of this tire model, indicative that the tire is being discontinued. I contacted bridgestone support on March 21, indicating that there is likely a manufacturing defect, and was advised to report this to the NHTSA, because the bridgestone employee stated that they have no internal capability to report a potential manufacturing defect. I suspect there is a likelihood that these tires have been discontinued because of defects, but bridgestone has not alerted customers of such a safety hazard. My bridgestone support reference number is [xxx]. Please investigate this as I believe there is a safety hazard due manufacturer defect. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

3 Tire Sidewall problem of the 2023 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 04/17/2023

I own a 2023 Tundra, 4601 miles at the time of incident. While driving at 55mph, the driver's rear tire experienced a blowout. Upon examination, an approximately 100mm vertical split in the sidewall of the tire was evident. Photographs at the time of the incident show no impact to the tire from road debris, nor had I noticed any impacts that would have caused the failure. I had driven all 4601 miles on the truck and at no point had I noticed any observable defects on the tire prior to the sudden rupture. There was no warning prior to the sudden failure of the tire. During the event, I struggled to maintain control of the vehicle until I could bring it to a stop. As of the time of the report (4/18/23, 8:19am) the tire is in my possession. P265-60r-20 yokohama geolandar x-cv.

4 Tire Sidewall problem of the 2002 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 11/05/2022

I purchased 4 new michelin p245/70 r16 from costco 12/5/2011with 31250 miles. I am a career auto mechanic for 39 years at an independent auto shop (retired, due to disability, 9/2011). I noticed sidewall cracking within about 2 years, but dismissed it because I have never heard/seen an air pressure loss due to sidewall cracking. The cracking worsened over the years, but the air pressure was even for all 4. Fast forward to 2020, I noticed my rf tire very low, looked for punctures, none found while submerged in water. November 2022 the rf tire was totally flat (parked). I found the sidewall had failed. This was a first for me in my experience. I certainly do not trust the remaining tires. I found a recall on the same brand/model but not my size. I have only 13350 miles on these tires. Tread is very good. I don't drive this truck often, but I maintain my vehicles well. Air pressure has been maintained at 40psi, 4psi under the max. Pressure. In my opinion this is an obvious case of a defect in materials. I have not contacted michelin yet.

5 Tire Sidewall problem of the 2001 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 08/19/2020

Low mileage, two year old front tires beginning to separate at inner sidewalls, making vibrations above 50+ mph and shaking vehicle so bad almost undriveable at highway speeds. Alignment shop said get them checked. Re-balancing tires had no effect, moved front tires to rear then bed of truck would vibrate at speed. Replace the 2 tires in question and problem resolved. Had tire shop look at the tires and they found tread separation at inner sidewalls of both suspect tires. Called manufactured for warranty replacement or refund and they needed a rma form filled out by an authorized dealer who sells this brand of tire before a return could be accepted. Original purchase was online from walmart for pickup at local store. Walmart had no record of the tire seller who supplied online walmart sales. Manufacturer referred me to a 'discount tire' store locally that manufacturer had previous contact with and dealt in this brand of tire. Contacted the suggested store and salesman needed to contact manufacturer first to know how to proceed. After a callback from store, salesman tried to diagnosis the tire problem over the phone without actually looking at the tires and said tires were probably out of round. I have the two tires and still pondering for a solution.

9 Tire Sidewall problem of the 2005 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 01/18/2009

I was driving from new jersey to my home in massachusetts. The trip is about 250 miles. About 18 miles from my home the sidewall blew out of the rear tire. Road conditions were wet and snowy the whole trip. I don't think I ever exceed 60 mph. I checked all tires for proper inflation before leaving my home for new jersey. The tires are 60,000 mile tires and had about 43000 at the time of the failure. The tire is a bridgestone dueler h/t 689 - this is not shown in your selection list. I had to select the closest name but the real name is the one written here.

10 Tire Sidewall problem of the 2007 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 07/14/2007

I purchased a brand new 2007 Toyota Tundra two months ago. With less than 9,000 miles on bridgestone dueler tires, the left rear tire pretty much disintegrated while traveling on i10 at 75 miles per hour. The sidewall of the tire completely separated from the main part of the tire. There was no bang and the tires were properly inflated. It appears to be a manufacturing defect or a design flow. I kept the remains of the tire as well as the other three tires and purchased a set of 4 new tires of a different brand.
