The contact owns a 2012 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that while plowing his driveway, there was an abnormal burning odor detected. The vehicle suddenly lost power. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that oil was needed. The mechanic became aware that oil was dripping through a small crack on the cam shaft on the right cylinder bank onto the exhaust manifold. The contact was informed that the engine wiring harness was burned. The mechanic recommended that the engine and transfer case be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, and the contact was informed after an investigation, that there was no evidence of a defect. The claim was denied. There was no additional assistance provided. The approximate failure mileage 175,000.

I had all the dash lights flashing and the transfer case stuck in 4wheel drive low, an engine misfire and vibration. I took it to my mechanic and he said it was an air pump valve problem. He cleared the codes in the computer and I drove it home. The next morning it did the same thing. I took it back and he got it running again. The weather has since warmed up and it hasn't done it since. That was a couple months ago. I found out that Toyota was extending the warranty to 10 years and 100,000 miles. So I took it to foss Toyota in casper, wy. They told me they couldn't fix it unless it malfunctioned right there on their lot. I contacted Toyota headquarters by e-mail, I explained the problem and was phoned by someone at Toyota. They told me the same thing. I say bullcookies. Those engine fail codes are still in the computer. And I believe they're stalling until my 10 years are up this coming September. This air pump repair is a $5,000. 00 to $6,000. 00 bill. I think Toyota should repair my truck, I bought it from them in good faith, I had to have a $1,000. 00 + engine belt and a water pump put on it already, and now this? what are my options when dealing with a less than honest company? when the dash lights flashing and the transfer case stuck in 4wd. It was parked in my garage and I just started it up on a cold morning. Thank you.

After trying to switch my truck into 4 wheel drive lo, the 4 wheel lo light & symbol would flash and never engage. I tried many times, making sure the vehicle was on a level surface, at a compete stop with emergency brake engaged, shifting from 2 wheel drive to 4 wheel hi and then place the vehicle in neutral, with my foot on the brake and tried to switch into 4 wheel lo. . . . Nothing, it will not engage. It will however shift back to 4 wheel hi and back to 2 wheel drive. Please keep in mind, I only use 4 wheel drive hi, during snow storms in nh and only use 4 wheel lo to drive up my driveway, in very deep snow amounts (16"-20" depths). After finding this very disappointing problem, I scheduled an appointment with our local Toyota dealer. They had the vehicle for the day and was able to replicate the same problem. According to the tech and service manger, it was determined that the 4 wheel drive actuator has failed, thus requiring the replacement of the transfer case, actuator and a computer program? any ways this was a Toyota service bulletin which referred this remedy fix and at the cost of (drum roll please) $5,200. 00 are you kidding me! I'm an ex auto mechanic and perform a majority of my scheduled service and go to Toyota for other maintenance repairs and or service, in fact my entire family vehicle history can be found at this dealership proving our due diligent vehicle up keep and loyalty. Now don't take this the wrong way, this nh Toyota dealership has been great and help us with many other expensive repairs and I'm not blaming them. I point the blame at the Toyota corporation, for not stepping up to make this repair as a priority, after all my family has owned (10) Toyota vehicles over the past 20 years and all of them have reached the 150k - 180k miles without this problem occurring.
Rear differential and brake housing left and right are rotting from the outside. Large parts of the differential housing are already missing! front transfer case and transmission are perfect! entire rear trans-axle is rotting from the outside. Emergency brake adjustment turnbuckle is rotting. *structural mounts for the emergency brake are rotted. Steel in the frame and most factory welds are DE-laminating. *brackets holding the brake line and junctions are rotting. *capture plate and hardware holding spare tire in place are rotted. I will need a cutting torch to remove the spare tire. I have excellent photos to send. Respectfully, dennis degen.

The transmission and transfer case on our 2008 Tundra 4wd drive has failed, repeatedly this past week while operating the vehicle on a public street. In this "fail" condition, the transfer case makes a grinding nose, the transfer case alarm buzzer makes nose and irrespective of transmission position or transfer case selection (2wd, 4wd hi, 4wd lo) fails to engage in low or hi, and most troubling, the vehicle will roll in any gear, no gear will engage, and the car can roll forward or backwards out of control. I was almost hit a by a car today because I could not get the truck to engage in any gear, in any setting, inspite of attempts to roll the vehicle slightly down the hill to allow for the transfer case to engage, as suggested in the owner's manual. While I am not pleased with the (failed) condition of the drive train for this new truck, this is an issue I will address directly with Toyota. In the fail condition of 4wd, the transfer case merely 'beeps' and refuses to engage transmission, resulting in a free-rolling, uncontrolled vehicle. Had this failure happened today as we attempted to enter the freeway, we would have likely been in a accident. This is unacceptable. I am most concerned that other Tundra owners (and the similar sequoia) would have a loss of vehicle control and power, resulting in injury or death. How troubling Toyota would put this vehicle on the road without addressing this issue.
The brakes on my 2004 Toyota Tundra double-cab do not work properly (and never have). When you press on the brake pedal, the brakes make a loud noise (not the typical anti-lock brake noise) and do not stop effectively. I've almost ran into cars in front of me. I took it to stevinson Toyota, but they said the brakes were fine. They weren't. I took it pep boys and they replaced the pads & turned the rotors. It is better, but still bad. I think I'll get rid of the truck. Someone is going to get hurt with this brake situation on the truck model.
2003 Toyota Tundra, (4wd) VIN 5tbbt44143s36074 there is a very obvious vibration and humming noise coming from the front transfer case / differential. This causes a slight reduction ins speed and / or resistance to acceleration. The problem is most noticeable between 30 ~ 40 mph in colder weather, but is present at all speeds and weather conditions. The problem has been present since purchasing the vehicle as new, and is becoming progressively worse. Toyota recognizes and acknowledges that there is a defect with some of the 2003 thunders and squish (documented in service report for this vehicle). It was describe to me by two Toyota service managers and a Toyota technical assistance representative as resulting from the fit / mesh tolerance of some gears in the front gear case being too tight. Toyota has fixed the problem (re-design) in current production vehicles (starting some time during the 2003 model year production schedule), but has to date refused to repair the defect for all owners presenting this problem to authorized Toyota dealers / service centers. Some dealers / service centers have repaired the defects at random. I suspect and fear that this problem will eventually lead to a failure of some kind that may present a safety hazard, I. E. Gears wearing, slipping, or binding) when the vehicle is in motion, and this in turn may cause a loss or reduction of, or interference with, driver control.

2007 Toyota Tundra. Consumer states cruise control does engage and then will not disengage brakes. The consumer stated the brakes would not hold at stop signs and the vehicle would move forward. The vehicle had electrical shorts in the wiring such as; the headlights, clock, cigarette lighter, alarm and door locks. The seat belts would not always latch. The windshield wipers would not activate, there was a severe shake coming from the front of the vehicle as well as when the brakes were applied. There was a noise coming from the 4-wheel drive, the steering would act erratic and the accelerator pedal became stuck which caused the consumer to have an accident while backing out of his driveway. .
While driving there was a noise heard coming from under the hood. Dealer has inspected the vehicle and could not duplicate or correct the problem. Ts the defect was with the transfer case which caused vibration and reduction in speed.
