2 Transmission Noise problem of the 2000 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 05/24/2010

The contact owns a 2000 Toyota Tundra. While driving approximately 45-50 mph he heard a loud noise and the left rear spring broke which caused the vehicle to stop immediately. He engaged the accelerator pedal and heard another loud noise and coasted the vehicle into a parking lot. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer. The dealer advised him that it would be 3 months before they could repair his vehicle because of the back log of recalls. The dealer performed the recall work on his vehicle on August 23, 2010; recall 09v444000, structure: frame and members:underbody shields. As he was driving from the dealership he engaged the brakes and the brake pedal went to the floor; he informed the service manager of the failure. The service manager advised the technicians to clean, adjust the rear brakes and relieve some tension on the parking brake cable. The following day the dealer advised him that the transmission was failing and needed to be replaced. The vehicle remained at the dealer waiting for the parts to be available. The failure mileage was 102,168 and the current mileage was 102,192.

3 Transmission Noise problem of the 2000 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 09/05/2009

At 78,000 miles the transmission began making a noise and vibration that upon first impression sounded and felt like running into a pothole. The truck would also, intermittently fail to go into reverse gear. After dropping the transmission pan it was determined that the pan had several clumps of metal shavings and the transmission has to be replaced. This is an egregious mechanical failure on a vehicle with low mileage and well maintained.

5 Transmission Noise problem of the 2007 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 08/22/2008

I bought my 2007 Tundra 6/30/2007 ran great until around 18,500 mi. At that time the transmission started making a banging noise which it felt like the 05 4 runner. The 4 runner still does it but it runs and drives fine. The Tundra is getting really bad as it is grinding and banging. I have been in contact with Toyota from my area and they keep saying I have to bring it in to have it checked. I have had several appointments and they usually call and cancel the appointment. I contacted different corporate exc's and one from California called and made an app. And I was there for it. I waited for 1 1/2 hours and the rep didn't show. I am now going to send mr. Akio toyoda, president of Toyota a certified letter. His address iscorporate headquarters* 1 Toyota-cho Toyota city, aichi 471-8571 japan phone: 81 5 6528 2121 fax: 81 5 6523 5800 I hope everyone that has a problem will send a certified letter to him and let him know how embarrassed the Toyota CO. Should be for the way they are handling the problems. I for one will go back to gm as they will half try to help.

7 Transmission Noise problem of the 2006 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 02/20/2007

I was driving north out of phoenix arizona on I-17 just past black canyon city, with my cruise control set at 75 mph. There is a very long hill going north to sunset point. Prior to approaching the hill I canceled the cruise so that the transmission wouldn't hunt gears. I drove up the hill at 65 to 75 mph (no cruise). When I made the top of the hill at sunset point and leveled out, I accelerated the vehicle to 75 mph and hit resume. The engine raced to 5200 rpm. I redline at 5700 rpm. The transmission did not follow suite. It was as if I was in neutral revving the engine. I immediately canceled the cruise and drove a mile or so without cruise, then decided to try it again. Everything worked normal. I have been in contact with my dealers service dept. And they are baffled. They have not looked at it as yet due to their schedule. As soon as they can get me in they will. They did say that there should have been a check engine light, but there was not. They are hoping that the onboard computer recorded it. Not only is this a major safety hazard, but it could have caused my engine to blow up. I'm not sure what reaction my wife would have had. She drives all the vehicles we have and they both have cruise, yet she is not that familiar wit rpm's and redlines and the issue that follow. When I have allowed the cruise to pull me up an incline it usually drops 1 or two gears and the rpm's are around 3000 to 3200. This I consider normal. I had a 1999 Toyota tacoma with a six cylinder engine and cruise, so I am very familiar with the system. I purchased the vehicle from tim's Toyota in prescott, I also brought to their attention a noise that I heard in the right front suspension and they are going to take care of it under a new recall that has not even been sent to customers, nor was the service dept aware of it.

8 Transmission Noise problem of the 2001 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 12/09/2006

Driving in fast lane on hwy, every time I accelerated there was a funny noise proceeded to get louder, started making my way to the shoulder, gradually lost power and then felt a "snap" when I got to the shoulder. Called for a tow and sat on the shoulder of the road where two highways merge for 45 min. At 8:00pm on a sat. Night in the middle of a really bad rain storm. Very unsafe conditions! towed truck to a garage, they recommended a transmission shop. Had it towed to the transmission shop and they told me the od planetary gear was bad in the transmission and it had destroyed the entire thing. My transmission was rebuilt, $3000 later, + $300 car rental, + one day off work.

9 Transmission Noise problem of the 2001 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 12/09/2006

: the contact stated while driving 70 mph, a grinding noise was heard and the vehicle lost power. The grinding noise became louder and the vehicle was maneuvered off the road. The vehicle was towed to an independent transmission repair shop, who determined the entire transmission needed to be replaced.

10 Transmission Noise problem of the 2002 Toyota Tundra

Failure Date: 07/01/2002

I have had multiple problems with my 2002 Tundra trd 4wd. I have had it in more than 4 times for the brakes vibrating/pulsating and looks like I will be taking it in again as they are starting to vibrate again!! reno Toyota has always done all the maintenance on it and keep trying to say it is my fault the brakes are bad and the rotors are warping. They replaced the rear axles a couple of months ago but I had to pay the $50 deductible. They also had to install a gasket on the crossover for the engine coolant as the factory never installed it. The ac doesn't get cool enough to cool the interior. Whistling noise but don't know where it is coming from. . . Sounds like coming from side mirrors??? I replace the wheels recently because of vibration because the wheels were warped. Always have excessive brake dust on front wheels. Transmission feels and sounds like it is slipping all the time. Rough idle after warm up. I bought it new in July 2002 and now have 69400 miles on it. Most of which are highway miles with no towing ever. . . No heavy hauling ever. Am too afraid to drive it off-road because of all the brake problems. . . Nevada=mountains=cliffs=death. . . I am not ready to risk my life or my grandchildren so will not even let me ride with me anywhere.
