36 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2005 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 04/01/2011

Both rear windows have stopped working. (second one is completely down and does not go up) vw dealer advises that the regulators have to be replaced and due to the "design" of the car to have this done would require taking out the back seat for a total of $1085 with parts & labor. I have searched the issue online and have read numerous articles where other vw Beetle owners have had the same issue. A recall for this costly and repeated issue should be passed. Please help.

39 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 1999 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 02/25/2008

Purchased 1999 vw Beetle 20 months ago. Car has only 54,000 miles. Since owning the car have already over $3,500 in repairs. All of the repairs were done at my local darcar vw repair shop. I believe some of these repairs were recalls and have all receipt. Is there someone I can sent my repair receipts to to see if I can be reimbursed for out of pocket expenses which should have been recall services? I can forward receipts. Also seven days ago the passenger side window regulator broke and it appears it had been recalled per two vw owner who had same problems but I can't find the recall information on it. Can you suggest how I can view all recalls for 1999 vw Beetle GLS?.

40 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2005 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 09/20/2006

The window regulators on the vehicle are predictably failing approximately every 2 years without much use at all. The part is poorly engineered and expensive to replace. It is a known issue that vw refuses to fix. I have had my window regulators replaced on each of my 4 windows twice: September 30, 2006right rear window regulator replacement July 18, 2007left rear window regulator replacement April 29, 2009left front regulator replacement August 15, 2009right front window replaced (shattered when a friend closed, not slammed, the door) July 21, 2010left rear window regulator ? repaired by vw October 31, 2010right rear window regulator July 20, 2012 left rear window regulator failed (not yet repaired) this is unacceptable for a company that claims to have exceptional engineering. Web searches have revealed that countless customers have this same complaint and that the issue is also with jetta, passat and other vw vehicles. They should be made to manufacture a better part and fix the issue free of charge for all customers.

41 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2002 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 06/19/2006

In June I took my 2002 vw Beetle to the dealership because it again would not start. The vehicle has had the alternator replaced already, a battery change, and then another alternator. So three alternators since creation. I was told that another battery had failed. So now three batteries in total. I also told them that the brake lights were sticking on and burning out the bulbs, that they stayed lit so people could not tell if I was braking and that the cruise control was not working. I was told by corporate that my VIN did not fall under a recall. I argued that while my VIN might not have been identified it did not negate the fact that the car had the same failure and cause as those listed as part of the recall. They finally agreed to warranty the brake switch failure. I paid for the new battery. However, the car was returned to me with out working turn signals and hazard lights. The service rep failed to return my calls about it on numerous occasions. Only after I contacted the mgr did they call me. They said to bring it back and they would fix it. Now they want to charge me $135 because they say the switch inside the dash failed and it was not related to the electrical issues with the brake switch. Funny the cruise control, etc were related. I was told the brake switch allowed electrical to be back fed into the system that was too powerful for the circuits thus burning them out. They can not explain why the turn signals would not be affected by this nor why they returned it to me broken. This car is an electrical lemon!.

44 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 1999 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 01/28/2003

On 01/28/2003 while cruising at approximately 45mph my diesel engine simply shut down without any advance warning whatsoever. I was stranded on the side of a very busy road with my 3 year old granddaughter. I then had it towed to jim ellis vw on peachtree industrial blvd, atlanta, GA 30341 (phone: 770-458-6811). 46 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 1998 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 07/21/2000

This vehicle has been nothing but problems from the start. When the vehicle was purchased about three weeks afterwards, if you hit a bump the hubcaps would come flying off. This would happen going at the speed of 25mph. I've taken it back to the dealer for service. They said that was a problem with the new models. They replaced the hubcaps, but the problem would continuously happen. Finally I took it back again for service and demanded that this problem be fixed. So far they are all changed and it hasn't occured again. Between these problems a total of 5 hubcaps have been replaced. The other problems, are the steering wheel would knock and make loud noises. The first time it was brought in, I was told that there was nothing wrong with the car, and that the car was classified as safe. It started happening again, and they looked and said it was a "defect" in that years model. So they replaced it, "because my car was still under guarantee". This problem has started all over again, I took it in for service just recently and they said it's because of the damp weather we've been having. Just yesterday I brought the car in for turning off on the middle of the highway. The service center was not helpful. They would not give me a loaner and would not even give me a ride home or work because I worked in the bronx. My car is still not ready, and the comment was when I called if my car would be ready today was, "well you could take it back the way you brought it in. " great customer service. I've have been very unhappy with the car and the service center. I was told that this problem was nothing that I had caused, it is again another "defect" and it will be replaced free of charge only because I'm still under warranty until 8/27/00. He said I was lucky it happend now than later. But, explain something to me, if it is what they call a "defect" aren't they supposed to fix it anyway?.

47 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 1999 Volkswagen Beetle

Failure Date: 06/01/2000

I purchased this vehicle because I was looking for a reliable and economical car. I have been very disappointed. This car burns oil at an unbelievable rate. I cannot rely on it and do not want to drive it out of town. I am now keeping jumper cables in the hatch because of constant battery problems. The radio is not working. I have already replaced a regulator (window) on the driver's side and it has broken again. Less than a year after it was replaced. Several dealerships told me that they couldn't get me in to fix the problem for 2 weeks - my window was stuck down inside of the door and would not roll up. The waiting time for an appt at a dealer should be an indication that the are not producing quality vehicles. The warranty period is too short. The problems seem to all happen after the warranty is up. Is that how long they expected to last - 2 years?I have been very disapointed.
