As I turned off the 4 lane highway onto our local street I heard a loud noise, I thought I had blown
a tire. I pulled into our driveway, about 30 yards further, and saw nothing. Fortunately, we have a Nissan dealership whose parking lot has an entry across the street from our
driveway. I drove to them very slowly as car was making terribly noises. I also found a broken off
bolt about 1/2 inch diameter in the road just before our driveway and took it to Nissan. Nissan found that both engine mounts were broken. They felt one had broken and the weight of the
engine falling had broken the second. My engine was "sitting on top on my exhaust"
if this had happened on a high speed road -- the highway I had just turned off of --- I may have caused
a serious accident with fatalities. I have reported to both my local vw dealership where the car has been serviced as well as the vw
national office. Neither would pay for my $800 repair, both said there were no recalls on my model. I maintain my car and feel this is terrible that something like this can happen. If the bolts are broken
--which is what Nissan says/ not rusted --- then the bolts are defective!!!!
it was so fortunate that the engine dropped when it did and not on a highway!!!.

Why don't you have a catalytic converter problem for the 2001 Volkswagen Beetle. The company is replacing them. I just had one installed after having the engine light indicate I had a problem.

The car's check engine light comes on variably, local mechanic claims an oxygen sensor is malfunctioning, and able to clear the computer warning check engine light. Vw service station claims can't diagnose problem if light is out, have to wait til light is on again.
I bought a 1998 Volkswagen Beetle from torrance Nissan on 5 January, 2003: since the date of purchase, this car had been overheating off and on. I returned it to the dealership but was informed that it was nothing to worry about. ? they went as far as taking it to a vw service rep on 5 and 6 January, 2003 for confirmation. I found out later that vw has no record of ever servicing or even seeing the vw until 1 April, 2003! during the months of February and March, 2003 I still experienced the vehicle overheating and each time I called amir, I would follow up with a visit to torrance Nissan. Their replies were always the same, they could not find a problem for the overheating? there were many times I told the dealership that I no longer wanted this car and even submitted it in writing on 15 April, 2003. On 1 April, 2003 I took the Beetle to Volkswagen myself and had it fixed, but the water pump broke again and was replaced on 4-9-03. Three days later, the car was getting hot. I told both Volkswagen and torrance Nissan that I no longer want this car! I have proof of all the repairs performed and still it overheats! on 12 April, 2003 I took the car once more to Volkswagen to thoroughly check it out and they called their technical support. A few days later they found a cracked head on the engine block. To top it off, I had a car accident on 28 April, 2003 on my way to work and had to be towed to the long beach Honda body shop. Later that night the car caught fire and was burned down with 3 other cars in the body shop. Before the car caught fire, I was in process of a valid claim under the lemon law & magnuson-moss warranty act with the adam krohn of the consume law center. Issues: rental car $1,607. 78 (my insurance only covered $600. 00, my insurance covered only actual value of $10,788. 31; leaving me with a balance of $1,043. 00 out-of-pocket. Which my insurance informs me make a claim against the body shop for difference on balance and $ 1007. 78 of the car rental.

I have 21,500 miles on my 2001 vw Beetle, has been in the shop aprox 6 times for the same problem, car hesitates and stalls out as check engine light is a constant on, dealership cannot find the problem, my wife and I were almost killed in vehicle due to stalling out in front of fast moving traffic, I let them know that this vehicle was an endanger to my and my families life while driving and would like this vehicle towed in, and since was an on going problem also needed a rental car and the dealership and Volkswagen of America both refused on both accounts, because of the bitter taste in my mouth for vw. I no longer want this car.

Oil consumed at rate of 1qt/1500 miles. No leak or smoking exhaust. Vw recommends oil change every 10,000 miles. Engine would have no oil by 6,000 miles. Could cause engine to seize and possible accident. Other new Beetle owners I know have told me they have the same problem with their gas 2. 0l engine, 5spd new Beetle. This situation is very unsafe.
2000 Volkswagen Beetle leaking coolant, defective airflow sensor, check engine light illuminated and problems with window switch. The window had to be operated a certain way in order to operate properly, the check engine light had come on due to a bad airflow sensor in which the problem occurred on two occasions, the coolant light had come on due to the tube that had run from the coolant container to the engine had cut in it and leaked coolant.
While driving plastic cover that protects engine/ exhaust system and plugs disengaged from under vehicle. Please give any further details.
