I have claimed to volkeswagen why this has not been on recall although the service is advising me that they cannot keep up with service since they keep having the same models of car with the same problems. My car has been at the service for over a week and a half now since vw is out of stock on this particular parts. Service can not start working on vw told me that they are not calling for recall for this problem but just wait for the owner of the cars with defected parts to find out this problem. I do not feel volkeswagen is taking a proper action on this defected parts. Wish some kind of proper action would be taken seriously soon. Dt.

Most of the engine was replaced during the beginning of January. On Jan 22nd, traveling on a highway, engine lost power and was almost involved in a multi-car accident. I was in the middle lane and the power cut from 55 to about 10 miles an hour in the matter of seconds. Other cars were swerving around me and I was finally able to pull off the road. Car was towed back to dealership and the throttle body was cleaned out. On Jan 30th the same thing happened again, only this time I was not on a highway but a side street. Car was towed away again andis in the dealership waiting for repairs. During this month not only was an engine replaced but it malfunctioned twice. It is dangerous to travel on any highway with this car. The engine malfunctioned twice in one week. I can not safely return to driving this car. I was almost killed once and was very lucky not to have been involved in a seriuos accident. The Beetle has engine problems and very major ones. For a car that is 8 months old, this should not be happening.

When it is extremely cold (most of the time the temperature has been below zero) the car will lose power and die. This has happened 4 times. I was going approx. 75 on the interstate passing another vehicle when the car lost power and died. The temp. Was ten below zero. I have been left stranded 4 times with this vehicle in temperatures below zero. Thank god for cell phones!! I am worried about this happening on railroad crossings or in heavy traffic. I am currently working with the better business bureau and Volkswagen for a refund- just wanted you to be aware of the safety issue with the Beetle.
Coolant loss on two occasions causing engine to blow, no warning until last minute, all fluids and maintenace done and under extended warranty, dealer refused to pay for new engine.
Vehicle experiences delay in acceleration almost causing several accidents, dealer informed consumer that this vehicle has a design using a stepping motor that can create a lag time during acceleration.
Multiple problems with car since purchase.
The car stops dead - I know of a man who was killed in another vw Beetle because of this. . . . I heard on tv that Ford might be recalled for a faulty relay part. Why not vw? the malfunction light comes on and the car dies. My dealer had my car for one month and I didn't get any satisfaction until I called the main plant and until I filed a complaint with the dept of motor vehicles. I believe this is a large vw problem.

During normal operation of vehicle engine will jump or "buck", increasing the risk of a crash in traffic. Dealership has examined vehicle and could not identify cause. Please provide any additional information / attachments.
On 2 occasions when my car has been facing down on a slope it will not start and I have to put it in neutral and roll to level ground to get it to start. On one other occation my car did have a problem when I pulled into my parents driveway and I put my car in reverse , it did not go into gear and I rolled over my mom's flowers. The deal has checked in their database and with Volkswagen of America and noone has reported a problem similar to mine. They tried to recreate what I described, but to no avail. To date I have not had any incident repeat and I have gone to my parents house to try to recreate it myself, but again to no avail. The dealer has been very helpful with any problem I have encounted with my new car.
After only 3 months of ownership, the malfuction engine indicator light came on and stayed on. Took the car to the service center, I guess they reset the sensor on it. The end of September the airbag light came on and stayed on. Contacted dealer and he set up appointment to have it looked at. They looked at it and said they would have to order the part to fix it. I waited about 1 1/2 weeks before I called the dealer to see what the holdup was. They picked up my car from work and took it to the service center on October 6th. My receipt that was printed, states that the air bag test failed and they replaced it and also some ring. Today, two days later the airbag light is on again!!!! I am wondering how safe it is to drive this vehicle with this problem. The car is going back to the service center on Monday, oct. 11th.
I was driving along a straight, dry stretch of road at approximately 45 miles per hour, when my car suddenly accelerated and the steering locked up. I was unable to control my vehicle and crashed into an embankment. It is also important to note that the vehicle had been serviced (regular servicing) at the Volkswagen dealership just 3 days before. In addition, Volkswagen had a similar problem on its cabriolet about 8 years ago. This problem was caused by the water separator panel being bent during servicing. The outcome of this accident was $6000 worth of damage to my vehicle and minor injuries sustained by me.
This car drinks oil, the engine knocks, vw has done nothing to even aknowledge the problem. The window regulators are defective and one broke completely with the window falling out. The passenger side door can not be opend with a key and has been corode.
While driving with sun roof fully open vehicle shakes and shutters. Also there is something wrong with the engine.
Losing oil at rate of 1qt every 1,500 miles. Vw ordered new engine for me. Service said nothing could be done about it, and it is normal. I don't think so. Owner's manual recommends oil changes at 10,000 mile intervals. The engine would be bone dry at 6,000 miles.
