The radiator fell out of it's harness, which cause the coolant hose to rub against a belt. The cooling hose broke, causing all coolant to leak out of the car. The car is now unable to be driven. This is a prevalent issue I heard about throughout the community, but has not been addressed by Volkswagen in any way. The only warning I received from the vehicle was that the car was low on coolant.
Radiator hose hit the serpentine belt and caused full loss of coolant. I currently have 1,483 miles on my car bought new from the dealership. I haven’t even opened my hood until today when I was alerted to low coolant levels and had them all spilling out on my driveway.
Radiator came loose and cause a catastrophic coolant loss while driving leaving me stranded, a lot of people are having this problem.
The contact owns a 2016 Volkswagen Golf. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 16v647000 (fuel system, engine and engine cooling). The parts to do the repair were unavailable. The contact stated that the vehicle did not receive adequate fuel mileage and that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the issue. The local dealer (ourisman Volkswagen of bethesda located at 7001 arlington rd, bethesda, maryland 20814) was contacted and informed the contact that they had not received parts from the manufacturer and that the contact was placed on a waiting list. The manufacturer was making florida and puerto rico a priority first. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

The contact owns a 2015 Volkswagen Golf. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 15v705000 (engine and engine cooling, service brakes, hydraulic) and was unable to determine when the parts would become available for longer than a month. The dealer and the manufacturer informed the contact to wait until the second notice was mailed to determine when the parts were available. The manufacturer was unable to provide a time frame that the parts would be supplied to the dealer. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
2000 vw Golf 2. 0l engine; driving to work on freeway (65-70mph). Heard "pop" and a hissing noise from front of vehicle. Slowed down and pulled over to shoulder, saw coolant leaking. Engine would not restart. Towed to dealership, found internal engine damage to valves and pistons. Cause was a faulty water pump: vw uses a plastic impeller on the water pumps which frequently break and cause the engine to overheat very quickly. After the damage, a simple google search on vw forums revealed numerous other people had the same problem I had. The end result was that I had to replace the engine, radiator, timing belt, water pump ($6000 repair bill). Sadly, vw put in the same type of water pump with the plastic impeller, so I have little confidence that it will last longer than another 60000 miles. I would have changed it with the timing belt, but vw says the belt is not due to be replaced on this vehicle until 105,000 miles (just outside the 100,000 mile warranty, conveniently!) car had only 60,000 miles on it, vw claims it is not covered under warranty due to age of vehicle.

Engine overheated due to water pump failure, requiring water pump replacement. Plastic impeller degraded and failed. Use of plastic for impeller is a design flaw in the water pump otherwise made of aluminum, and should be recalled and replaced by vw under warranty.
