The epc light has luminated 3 times in the last several months. The vehicle stutters and will not accelerate past 25 mph. Shutting off the engine and restarting it clears the light and vehicle drives normally. The check engine light does not illuminate and no obdii codes are stored. Manual states to take vehicle to authorized dealership for diagnosis if light stays illuminated.

My epc light began to appear randomly in early 2024. I received a recall notice on the gear shift trim around the same time, so called jack ingram vw in montgomery to schedule a time for them to fix it (and also ensure they had the part). I asked them to also check on why the epc light was coming on. Brought in my car on 2/28/24. Service dept then tells me they weren't sure what was causing the epc light to come on, and they didn't have the gear shift trim part. They quoted me a lot of work to do, which I wasn't prepared financially to have completed. Epc light continued to appear at random. Each time it did, my car would shake and it would feel like I was losing control of the vehicle. I received another recall notice for the suction jet pump inside the fuel tank. When I called jack ingram vw to schedule this work, I asked if this had anything to do with my epc light coming on. They weren't sure. The recall work for both the suction jet pump inside the fuel tank and the gear shift trim were completed on 8/28/24. Car worked fine until about a month later and the epc light came on again. Called another vw mechanic in montgomery (powell's automotive) to see if they can fix it. On 9/20/24 they replaced battery, spark plugs, ignition coil, and did an oil change. Worked great until [xxx] when my engine failed and left me stranded in the road. There were no warning lights prior to the engine failing. Could not restart car. Had it towed to powell's who could not fix it, then to jack ingram vw. I asked them if this had anything to do with the recall work that was done. They said this would be the first if it was. They told me the in tank fuel pump needed replacing. Work completed 10/25/24. How can they work on the suction jet pump inside the fuel tank and not get a diagnostic that the in tank fuel pump was failing? I've already paid a lot of money to try to resolve the issue, and my epc light is still coming on. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Rough idle on start. Rpm is not maintaining to keep the engine running. After a few try, it starts ok and drive off the parking lot, but the engine dies after about 10 seconds over 30mph. It feels like gasoline is not igniting corretly. Scanned error code p0171: system too lean bank 1 p0190: fuel rail pressure sensor a circuit dealership can't replicate the issue and find the issue. Could be related to fuel system recall.

I have had this car since 2021, when I first bought it they had to keep it for another week due to a coolant break error? had to fix it but later on I had to put tons of money into the car almost more money than it’s worth. And I’ve had a engine light on religiously for the entirety of the car, however my cars engine lights flash at times when I am driving and it gets hard to accelerate and reeks of gas- I’ve given up on dealerships because they have done everything else but what I have asked them to do and I still leave and the engine light turns on after. I did some research and learned my car has a recall since 2/14/2024 and I’ve had no update on my vehicles recall or if it’s repairable. My car will refuse to start at times and I’ve told this dealership this car will most likely kill me since I’ve put so much money into it for nothing to be fixed? and if it’s been this recall error what do I do? please help me bought from allen web Mitsubishi. All the symptoms are there but I’m scared.
Fuel evaporation canister started leaking raw fuel after a strong gas odor was present before hand. The fuel suction pump failed and pressure built up in my gas tank. I was at risk because the presence of raw fuel near ignition sources can cause a fire. Verified at Volkswagen dealership. No warning signs by car when issue first started. Only sign of problem before raw fuel leaking was poor car performance, car stalled and I could not put more than a gallon of gas in the fuel tank.

Vehicle epc light comes on dash. Obd code is "p00af00 - turbocharger boost control "a" module". This error causes sudden loss of power and loss of driver assistance (forward collision assist, blind spot assist, cruise control, etc. ). Vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Upon checking turbo charger, the wastegate actuator arm is seized up, keeping the wastegate from functioning properly, failing to maintain boost pressure and entering limp mode causing sudden loss of power and acceleration. This has happened while on the roadway, attempting to merge into highway traffic, change lanes & pass other vehicles. This caused the vehicle behind me to close the distance very rapidly almost resulting in multiple rear end collisions. The vehicle has not been inspected by others, yet. The only warning that came on was when it first did it. I had a sudden loss of power, a warning beep from the dash and the epc light illuminated. It fixed itself after a few moments then occured again. It is now stuck with this error and will not operate accordingly.
My vehicle has (2) serpentine belts, and (2) belt tensioners. (1) tensioner is for the belt that engages the water pump, alternator, power steering and then has (3) idler pulleys. The other one is the ac tensioner, that belt routes from the ac compressor to the crank and the ac tensioner. The ac compressor is a dual belt pulley. So the ac tensioner is suppling the power for the accessory belt to spin, and operate the cooling system, charging system, and power steering. Recently the accessory belt ripped, and since the belts and the tensioners have yet to be serviced, I planned on doing both tensioners and belts. Upon replacing the components with new ones, the ac tensioner rubs against the accessory belt, which will def cause the belt to rip. Further investigating, I saw the original ac tensioner has a cut out on the side of the housing made, so that the accessory belt will not rub against it and spin freely. I called vw service, o reillys, auto zone, advanced auto, and none of the tensioners have the cut out, they all have the same tensioner that is being sold. So what do I do now? vehicle is not drivable, and without the correct part, this vehicle is unable to safely drive. Once that belt rips, cooling system won’t work, charging system and power steering. My vehicle has almost 200k and is mechanically sound, I maintain the maintenance on this vehicle to a t. Yet I am unable to purchase a part that is needed to ensure this vehicle continues to operate safely, due to a complete engineering design mistake. In which it seems to be completely covered up, because how many people will really service the tensioner. Well I did, and I would like my vehicle to run again, seeing as how the manufacturer decided to make this shortcut, and cross there fingers and hope no issues arose.

While normally driving on the street, I noticed that the car started to overheat and could hear the radiator working to keep the heat level normal. I stopped and did not notice any leaks and added coolant to the car after I left it cool for about 3 hours. The problem went away but I still took it to the dealership and I was told it might be the head gasket of the engine or thermostat/waterpump, a $4000 repair. Was advised to just sell the car. Vw should address this issue as it has been a long issue now.

Thermostat and gasket repair quoted by vw dealership. The coolant is leaking according to their inspection. Car could malfunction unexpectedly and leave me stranded as a road hazard many more claims in this thread. They quote $1,600 to repair. . Read more...
Third time today I saw my radiator loose from passenger side and was rubbing on ac compressor pulley. Noticed gouge in elbow coming from lower coolant hose. I could lost all coolant on highway then lead to engine shutdown.

Dealer found thermostat housing leak and recommended housing and pump replacement at a cost of over $2k. Thermostat is housing leak could cause loss of coolant which could strand you in the middle of the road. There were no warning lamps active. This appears to be a common issue with these vehicles. The thermostat should not be having problems like this at this mileage. The component has not been inspected by insurance, manufacturer, or police, only the dealer.
The engine completely failed while driving normally and lost power while on the highway, doing highway speeds. I had no power to safely exit the highway and it became extremely dangerous for surrounding traffic as I had to slow down. The problem has been confirmed by a Volkswagen dealer. Yes the vehicle has been inspected by Volkswagen. No warning lights or check engine lights prior to the failure.
The vehicle overheated during normal driving. The car advised the driver to stop immediately. The car was inspected later the same day by a vw dealer service department that determined the water pump and thermostat housing required replacement. Estimated cost is $1400.
I was driving down the freeway on the way to work at 75 mph when all of a sudden my epc went off in my 2013 volkswagon gti my entire car shut down (manual transmission) I lost all steering ability while on the freeway going 75 mph I couldn't get over to the shoulder due to loss of brakes due to entire car shutting down . I was almost smashed by a semi due to inability to steer my vehicle to total loss of power . I got the vehicle towed to a service shop they tell me that my timing chain had stretched and timing chain tensioner has failed, which caused significant damage to my engine . I bought the vehicle used and have taken meticulous car on it since I have owned it 3k oil changes ,proper oil ,proper, premium gas as notated milage based maintenance. The service center then notifies me that there was a class action lawsuit about failing timing chains and tensioners but when I called my local volkswagon dealership they told me it only covers up to125,000 miles but what I don't understand is that this issue almost cost me my life this is a known issue hence a class action lawsuit but to actually take care of the situation they refuse to do so I do enjoy the vehicle but I almost lost my life.

The thermostat housing leaked all my radiator fluid across the front of the engine block. I have to refill the reservoir every 2-3 days in order to keep the coolant in the engine and to keep it from overheating. Low coolant lights came on at a stop light, to initially alert me of the problem. There's currently a class-action suit against vw for this and it's time to issue a recall.
Car will stutter and stall. Usually after multiple short trips (5 stops and starts) in a short period of time (2 hours). 1 min/1000 gauge is fluttering around 0. 75 on gauge when stopped. When car stalls it can be when pulling out at a stop sign. It will stall when gas is applied and then I need to coast around a corner. Occasionally the car will stall out when driving between 20 and 30 miles per hour. When this happens it is extremely dangerous because I am driving in traffic and need to pull over to the side of the road. I had this problem fixed at the dealership once before in 2021 and it cost $559. 08 then. I was told at the time that gas sometimes has sediment in it and I should not get gas at grocery store pumps where the price is lower. I should stick to better gas stations. I now am getting my gas at the same two better places all the time hoping that the problem wouldn’t happen again. The problem started two weeks ago and is following the same pattern. I scheduled a service appointment again for them to check my car but it never displays any codes and it is difficult for them to recreate the stalling. My car is almost at 85,000 miles when my warranty runs out.
Faulty/unreliable water pump resulted in sudden coolant leak and subsequently overheating the engine. This seems to be a common problem when looking at reports/discussion from other owners of this vehicle online. It’s a known issue that the stock water pump is bad.
My 2022 Golf gti se is part of the recall with NHTSA id of 22v707 (radiator and coolant hose). The issue is the radiator comes loose causing a hose and housing to make contact with the accessory belt eventually causing a leak. In my particular instance, I caught the problem early. My radiator had become loose (wasn't loose on previous checks) but hadn't dislodged to the point of causing damage. Per this recall, there's no "fix" for my issue as only the house/housing/pulley/belt are fixed if required. This leaves me waiting on on Volkswagen to issue an actual fix for the underlying problem (radiator mounting) rather than a fix for only the symptoms. At this point, I'm unable to drive my car for fear of failure and potential engine damage.
Poor quality of the shifter knob component and installation from the factory for the 6-speed manual transmission variant of the 2022 vw gti. The shifter knob can come loose and pop out of the metal shaft while shifting gears in the drive. The poor quality of the knob develops a crack in the corner of the component which can cause the knob to detach from the transmission over time and make the car undrivable. Since taking delivery of the car from the dealership, the shifter knob appears to not be installed properly as the component can feel loose and pop out of the metal shaft and get detached from the transmission. This incident of the shift knob popping out occurred a few times while driving. As changing gears with the shifter knob is a crucial aspect of driving the car, the current component poses a serious quality and safety issue for the car that was overlooked by the manufacturer.
This car should be under an active recall for 2022/2023 Volkswagen gti/r due to insecurely installed radiator. But it's not listed somehow. The radiator was loose and caused rupture in coolant hose, and loss of coolant.

Loss of coolant due to cheap plastic housing leads to damage to the thermostat and water pump. Researching the forums on this issue has shown that it's a common problem with the vehicle that Volkswagen hasn't addressed.
Shift knob came off of lever. Plastic sleeve broke above metal clamp. Available for inspection. Could have caused an accident if happened while driving. Has not been inspected by dealer yet. Will take it o next visit. Knob was suddenly loose. Happened while backing out of garage. Replaced knob with aftermarket one. This problem has happened to many vw mk8 gti/r drivers.
July I broke down with a "low coolant" light, I pulled tot the side of the road, opened the hood and had a low coolant level. After further inspection of why - my radiator had come loose, pushing parts of it into the serpintine belt causing coolant to splew all over the engine bay. After a month of being at vw, they "fixed" it. I picked up my car after they had called me yelling about the rental car they had given me, to bring it back at x date and time. So I had to break my vacation in oregon short which was about a 959 mile drive for me and get my car. Which, a week later broke down again from the same issue and left me stranded for 24 hours. I have pictures/videos of this.
When driving at highway speeds, coolant sensor light stated there was a problem. Pulled off of freeway and noticed that coolant was spewing everywhere. Opened hood and radiator had come loose and damage to coolant lines when coming in contact with belts.
While driving warning lights started flashing stating car was over heating. Had the car towed to vw dealership and was informed that the coolant hose was leaking and needs to be replaced. This problem has been reported by many other gti owners. Was old it will take between 1 to 4 months to secure the part.
Common problem on 2022 vw gti models - radiator comes loose from upper clip mount on passenger side of vehicle, causing radiator to fall out of place. This causes the lower radiator to move enough so that the coolant hose rubs against a nearby serpentine belt, resulting in a hole in the hose and loss of coolant. This happened to me on Saturday, August 6. I was alerted with a low coolant warning in the dashboard. I immediately pulled over to check it out, saw the problem, and drove straight to dealer. Technician looked at it and said, "yep, I've done two of these already in the last month". This is a widespread issue as reported on vwvortex. Com and the vw mk8 group on facebook. My car has been at stohlman vw for over four weeks now, awaiting parts. Some owners have had the issue multiple times.
Radiator loose causing excessive rubbing on coolant hose causing leak and leaving vehicle stranded. This is happening to hundreds of vw mk8 gti's. This is a massive quality control issue and vw needs to address this very prevalent issue. This is causing owners to zip tie their radiators to prevent movement. My vehicle is brand new, just purchased new at dealership 2 weeks ago, mine is loose as well. Had I not been on enthusiast forums, I would have never know about it. Terrible quality control by vw!! this is a serious issue. . Read more...
Low coolant light appeared on dashboard. Radiator assembly had became dislodged and caused a coolant leak. Required immediate pullover on the interstate.
Radiator became loose causing radiator to have play, which in turn caused it to push the radiator hose into the drive belt causing the vehicle to spill coolant everywhere and overheat.
Water pump failed twice.
My car started sputtering randomly while I was driving and loosing power. Then when I tried to gas up my car, the car wouldn’t accept the gas. When I got home, gas started overflowing out of the tank all into my garage. It also soaked the whole wheel well with gas. There was no check engine line that came on. There is a current recall for this same issue which vw said is a suction pump problem on other gti’s but not my car. There are tons of over videos on facebook/youtube of the exact same thing happening to them. I had the problem fixed at the dealer but it cost 3500 dollars. I still have all the receipts from the repair cost and I would like to be reimbursed since they expanded the recall but my car hasn’t received this recall even though it is the exact same issue.
The 20y6 recall for vw Golfs is exactly what my 2017 vw Golf gti experienced. I am surprised the 2017 model year is not included. I did not feel safe driving my car with a failing fuel suction pump causing engine issues in traffic. When I finally made it home there was smoke coming out of my exhaust and fuel spilling out of the rear passenger wheel well.
Radiator is not clipped in properly at the factory and causes the lower radiator hose to come intro contact with belts and pulleys. This in turn causes all antifreeze to leak out into the roadway and causes engine to overheat. Both can be dangerous and cause vehicle to catch fire. The plastic connector on the lower radiator hose rubbed on the pully and melted. Vehicle is still at the dealership waiting on parts. A search online shows this problem started in Feb 2022. I just bought my vehicle and it has less than 1000 miles on it.
Radiator came loose allowing the lower return hose to contact the ac pulley and become damaged. Car lost substantial amount of cooling fluid and had to be parked. Eventually it was driven a short distance to the dealership for repair involving replacement of the radiator and hose. Dealer did not advise on any modification past returning car to previous state.
