Epc light comes on whenever turbo is engages, loss of power (no turbo). Epc light goes off when car is restarted, back on after a few minutes of driving. Error codes indicate turbo issues. Vehicle has 40k odometer mikes. Chat forums have numerous similar reports from other owners. Seems to be a known turbo issue with early mk7 gtis.

40 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2022 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 05/26/2022

After hearing reports that some 2022 vw gtis were suffer total coolant loss due to a loose radiator I checked my own new gti. I found that my gti’s radiator was unsecured at the top on the passenger side and it could freely move back and forth approximately 1. 25 inches. This could allow the radiator, shroud and fan to contact moving parts in the engine bay. Might be duplicate report, I tried earlier and got an error message.

42 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2017 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 05/17/2022

Absurd oil consumption. I have never experienced a vehicle burning oil like vw Golf. The vehicle manual states to check the oil every time filling the gas and it is normal for vw Golf to burn oil. That said, I have owned more than ten cars in my lifetime, and I have never experienced an engine burning more than a quart every 700 to 1000 miles. I did not have any issues until ~35k miles. After hitting ~35k, I started experiencing the problem. Vw service states to do the oil change every 10k, which if I wait, the engine will be toast. I have topped off at almost 10 to 13 quarts of additional between the oil change, I. E. , between 10k change I am not sure what kind of complaints NHTSA has received, but I find many owners having similar issues doing google search. It seems vw is getting away with significant flaws with their engine burdening vw owners with the cost of additional oil and flawed design engine minimal lifetime. I will appreciate it if your organization looks into this issue and has vw take responsibility.

Failure Date: 04/07/2022

Clips that hold radiator failed, allowing a coolant hose to come into contact with a pulley, resulting in the immediate and complete loss of coolant. This is not an isolated issue - many owners in online forums have experienced the same issue, generally at 300-3000 miles.

45 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2015 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 04/03/2022

Driving 65 mph down highway vehicle shut off with no warning. Fault code shows defective injector #1. Vw tdi (post fix dieselgate). Dealer will not fix because I cleared the code to drive home. Irresponsible for vw to make a car that shuts down completely with no limp mode or short time to clear road.

47 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2015 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 03/01/2022

The contact owns a 2015 Volkswagen Golf. The contact noticed that the fuel pump would frequent stop while fueling the vehicle. The contact then stated that while his vehicle was being driven by a valet, fuel began to pour out of the fuel tank while on an incline. The valet attendant managed to drive the vehicle down a decline which stopped the leak. Despite the failure, the contact was able to drive the vehicle home. The vehicle was then driven to a dealer where a diagnostic test was performed. The dealer informed the contact that the suction pump, seal, and emission filter needed to be replaced. Upon investigation, the contact linked the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 16v647000 (fuel system, gasoline, engine and engine cooling) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed him that the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The vehicle had yet to be repaired and remained in the possession of the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000.

49 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2017 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 02/02/2022

Yes my concern is the water pump that is made out of plastic which is notorious to fail at low miles. My car only has 64k on it. This water pump was not build well and vw really should designed a better one. To replace this pumps are costly and its guarantee it will not be needed to be fixed again in a short time. My pump will cost me around $ 1700 to repair. These pumps are a ticking time bomb waiting to happen.

50 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2013 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 01/16/2022

Misfiring after cold starts. After driving the car in freezing temperatures, problem sometimes happens when the car is allowed to sit and water in the intercooler melts. It may start fine, but then starts misfiring when pulling into traffic and creates dangerous merges. Misfire goes away in the first 30 seconds to 2 minutes or so of starting the vehicle. Several dealer complaints but they have so far refused to install their own TSB repair under warranty. The most recent dealer visit had them replace the anti-shudder valve. The problem reoccurred two days later.

51 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2015 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 01/03/2022

Coolant has leaked all over my driveway because of a thermostat housing and water pump fail. I am getting fixed for the second time $1800 dollar fix. Very common amongst other Volkswagen owners. This is not fair. If they know of this problem it should be dealt with. Now I am out $4000 in repairs and have a big stain in my brand new driveway. This is very unsafe if driving long distances as coolant leaks everywhere.

52 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2011 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 12/23/2021

Driving on interstate at 70 mph with cruise control on when car suddenly slowed and warning lights began flashing. I slowed to 60 mph and within a minute the engine shut off and was almost rear ended by a semi truck before I could get to the shoulder of the highway. Engine would not restart and I was stranded on the highway. Had to have the vehicle towed by aaa back to my home. Used my ross-tech vcds scanning tool to troubleshoot and found codes: p0087 (fuel rail system pressure too low), p020 (cylinders 1-4 injection timing), p1004-p1007 (torque difference cylinders 1-4). Examined fuel filter and fuel metering valve and found metal chips and particles in both places. Based on this evidence, the high pressure fuel pump has likely failed. My safety was put at risk when the failure occurred due to the sudden loss of power and subsequent near collision with a truck. Additionally I was in danger of being hit by other vehicles as I sat on the shoulder of the highway waiting for a tow truck. My vehicle is available for inspection by the local vw dealership, but will have to be towed at my expense to be examined.

53 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2017 Volkswagen Golf

55 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2017 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 08/12/2021

My 2017 vw Golf has been leaking oil and coolant. It was taken to a vw dealership where the problem was diagnosed as a leaking auxiliary bracket gasket behind the thermostat housing. The service advisor told me that the car could randomly undergo a catastrophic loss of power if the component were to totally fail. He advised me not to drive the vehicle due to this possibility and the safety issues involved with abrupt loss of power, especially at highway speeds. I requested that this component be repaired under the vw powertrain warranty which is still in force for my vehicle but this coverage has been denied by vw customer care. The car continues to leak but has not yet lost power. I am concerned that this is a major safety issue for my car. The car is available for inspection upon request.

56 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2019 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 08/06/2021

The car idles rough during initial cold start up, intermittently hesitates during acceleration and feels like it misfires during cruising. My dealer found that the ignition timing was retarded by 5º and told me to use better gas, citing a vw field service action (https://static. Nhtsa. Gov/odi/tsbs/2020/mc-10176770-0001. Pdf). The problem persisted after they treated the fuel. The car has never thrown a code causing the check engine light to turn on, and so the dealer has declined to investigate further. My records show the car was only filled with premium fuel, using vw recommended brands (bp, exxon, mobil, shell) in the 2,000 miles prior to the service appointment and was only filled with regular fuel twice (due to the colonial pipeline shutdown) since the car was delivered new from the dealer.

57 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2017 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 08/05/2021

Issues with thermostat housing: the part fails, causing a slow coolant leak. Coolant light eventually comes on. I bought my car in fall 2016. Issue first occurred and was diagnosed and fixed by dealer under warranty in April 2020. It has now (August 2021) reoccurred and has been diagnosed again by the dealer as the same issue. This should be a lifetime part. I should not have had to replace this part twice within a little more than a year, on a car that is just about five years old. Safety issue: possibility of sudden failure/overheating that might leave the driver stranded by the side of the road. . Read more...

58 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2016 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 07/07/2021

The thermostat housing and water pump are leaking due to a known manufacturing defect. I had the water pump and thermostat housing replaced around 65,000 miles from an independent Volkswagen mechanic. He informed me that it appears the water pump had been replaced prior to my ownership of the vehicle. (41,000 miles). Again, I have to replace the thermostat housing and water pump, for a leak. The failure causes a leak in the pressurized cooling system. The leak is small while parked so there is no noticeable puddle but as the system warms up, the leak happens faster. Because of this issue, I have had multiple warning messages while driving, low coolant level, check engine light, and epc (electronic power control, which disables activate cruise control and front collision detection systems). On multiple occasions, I was stranded waiting on help because of the failure. As stated, this is a known issue from the manufacturer, as they have had at least 7 revisions to the part. The manufacturer is currently on revision “m”, I am only aware of revisions “f, g, h, j, k, l” and the current revision “m”. As previously stated, this is the second time I personally have had to pay out of pocket for this repair.

59 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2018 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 04/09/2021

Vehicle intermittently stalls when coming to a stop in traffic while in gear. Has occurred on multiple separate occasions, but cannot be easily re-produced. When vehicle stalls it can be difficult to restart while in traffic and occurs without warning creating safety hazard. Usually there are no codes stored by the computer when this occurs, but check engine light has been noticed. Vehicle has been brought to dealership 3 different times for same issue. Upon first visit starter was replaced. Upon 2nd visit an oxygen sensor was replaced. Upon 3rd visit no further action was taken and I was told by dealer vehicle tested normal with no further repairs being authorized.

61 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2020 Volkswagen Golf

Failure Date: 08/26/2020

I purchased a vw Golf 2020 on August 18th, what happened to me a week later not only disappointed me but also sacred me. I drove the car on the street at the speed about 25mph, the vehicle suddenly died! I tried to control the vehicle, I stepped on the brake and pedal, it didn't respond at all. It showed "drive mannually' and then several lights were on, epc, engineer checking light etc, lights were off a few seconds later. Fortunately, there were no cars behind me and not on the freeway! at that moment, the car was out of control, I let it move forward then pulled up. A minute later, I restarted the vehicle, it was back to the normal. I drove it to the dealer to find out the problem. I told what happened and also I felt it lack of power, sometime it respond slowly. However, after several hours, I was told nothing wrong was been detect and they could not do anything with it, since the computer didn't tell there were any issues. Also I was told tat a mechanic test drive about ten miles not to duplicate what happened to me. So I had no choice but to drive it home. However, I stopped at the stop side, the vehicle was kind of dead again! my car stopped there and could not move for a few seconds, a guy behind me pressed the honk. I was so sacary that I was afraid of drive home via the freeway! I brought the car back to the dealer again, I told them I don't feel safe to drive it at all unless you figure it out what's wrong with it. I told the mechanic that I used to drive Golf 2011 for five years, my experience told me there are something not right with this car, it lacks of power and doesn't respond properly for gas pedal and I can sense it clearly. However, he said he might not do anything if the computer doesn't tell him what issues it has. I left the car for them to duplicate the problem while driving.

Thermostat housing and water pump are leaking coolant. It is available for inspection. It can cause my engine to overheat and/or fail while being used. It has been confirmed by a dealership. It has not been inspected by the police, manufacturer, or insurance company. There have been occasional reports of low coolant, and the coolant drains significantly faster than expected especially in cold weather (e. G. Needing to fill coolant every 7 days). It was first repaired in 2019, and has since failed again.
