Engine Shut Off Without Warning Problems of Volkswagen GTI

As I slowed down coming to a stop sign, I put the car in neutral. When I came to a complete stop, the engine shut off as if it was an auto off/auto on feature. The engine did not turn back on automatically. This happened immediately after at the next stop light. A few days later, the same thing happened.

2019 white Gti se with manual transmission purchased on 11/27/19 in daly city, CA. Current mileage ~ 2,300. Car engine shuts down intermittently/ randomly at low speeds when coming to a stop, either at neutral or in 1st gear or reverse with clutch fully engaged. The first time this happened was over two weeks ago after I switched driving modes from sport to eco mode. The engine would continuously shut down almost every time I came to a stop, to the point of the engine shutting off continuously and unable to remain on as I was parking my car on a hill. I took my car out for a drive a few hours later and it drove normally, until it shut down while I was sitting at a stop light with the car in neutral, and my foot on the brake. This problem occurs when my car is warmed up and at normal temperatures, usually after driven for at least 15 minutes. Every time it's happened, it was on city streets and intersections. I brought my car to the dealership the following morning and they reset the ecu, and were unable to recreate the problem. Haven't had the problem reappear until a few days ago, and was even able to record a video of it occurring. My car is at the dealer for the second time now for the same problem.

As I slow down getting ready to come to a compete stop. Going from 3rd to second gear the cars gear indicator still says that I am in 3rd when physical the gear module is in the second position the minute the vehicle comes a complete stop even in mutual. The car engine will just shut off. Issue consistent when car electric components thinks the car is in a particular gear than what's actually happening.

Nhtsa action number dp19003. I have a 2019 Gti se 6mt. At low speeds, coming to a stop, with clutch engaged, the car will stall. No warning lights or noticeable sounds appear, but the engine just turns off. Sometimes you don't know it's off until you try to accelerate. A couple of times the engine would quietly shut off while the car was in motion with clutch engaged and gear in neutral. The frequency of this occurence is higher when im in stop and go traffic. I purchased my car brand new yesterday, 11/18/2019, with less than 30 miles. The stalling occurred the next day on 11/19/2019 in bumper to bumper traffic. To proivde context, I've been driving manual transmissions 13 years, with my previous car being a 6mt 2013 Gti, and never encountered this type of issue before. To test whether it's human error, I conciously pressed down on the clutch as hard as I could and kept it engaged until full stop to ensure I wasn't releading too early, but the issue still persisted. I've stalled over 10 times in a day, which appears to occur at random, but moreso during low speed, stop and go driving. Because of the subtle engine shutoff, left turns from a standstill can be extremely dangerous due to stalling on oncoming traffic without knowing your engine is off, amongst the other dangerous implications of this issue. Please consider this a serious issue, which appears to be impacting many other 2019 Gti 6mt owners.

Purchased from riverside vw metro auto group, a new 2019 vw golf Gti (with 465 miles) equipped with a 6 speed manual transmission stalls excessively. The vehicle typically needs to warm up (oil temp above 210f) prior to seeing this excessive stalling issue. The stalling is apparent when the engine shuts off without warning as car slows to a stop or when preparing to make a turns at intersections. This transpires with the clutch depressed fully and also when the vehicle is in neutral and clutch out. This has happened over 18 times I purchased the vehicle 4 days ago. I have brought the vehicle to the dealer to address and they have stated they are unable to reproduce the event and are unaware of any problems with this model. Current mileage is approximately 615 miles.

6mt rabbit edition. Car has occasionally softly stalled/engine shuts off while in neutral when coming to a stop or slow. Happens without any warning or consistency. Car will restart again without any problem.

The car shuts off the engine at very low speed. There was no jerkiness. The engine simple stopped. One time it was at a parking lot when pulling to the parking spot. The engine shuts off. Another time the engine shuts off without warning after coming to a full stop at a stop sign.

I have been driving manual transmissions for almost 10 years. I have had the car stall on me three times while moving at low speeds while in first gear, specifically when parking and we starting to move again from a stop at a light. The engine shuts off almost as if the engine's start/stop feature engaged, not like a typical stall. The car is brand new with 350 miles as of today when it happened for the third time.

Vehicle will spontaneously turn off engine or stall while decelerating from speeds of approximately less than 20 mph. Car will stall with clutch depressed or not, steering wheel loses power assist, and car needs to be restarted. Engine shut off occurs while vehicle is in motion and has occurred approximately 5 times in first 800 miles of ownership.

Vehicle died when stopping at red light in evening rush hour. There was no shutter with the engine shutoff. Did not notice engine was off and when attempted to accelerate from a stand still, I noticed the vehicle was off. This happened half a mile later at an additional stop light. There were no warning or lights on the dashboard.

Coming to a stop, clutch all the way in, the car will stall. It is not your typical "jumpy" driver error stall, but rather it feels as if the engine just shuts down. Its very subtle and the only way you even know its happening is that you see your rpms drop off. Always happening when coming to a stop. Difficult to bring the problem to the dealer because it is difficult to reproduce on command.
