4 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2019

Had drove the car little while, then made a stop, cranked the car to leave and sounded like it was low on oil, that kind of. Tapping sound. Oil was fine. But the sound still there the next day. After driving it a mile or two. It got louder, then the check engine light came on. I stopped at the closest part store about 5 min after the light came on. They checked it with the scanner. Said it was a knock sensor code. P0328, bank 1. Took it to vw. To get a diagnosits done. And the man said it was due to a recall. The problem I was hearing, and the code. Was from the recalled part. They changed that part. Said it was a fuse panel on engine block. The problem was still the same. Then, he said it was not due to the recall. And I still had to pay the 120 dollar for the diagnostic. And said they would have to open the engine to check any further, and that the labor would be about 2000 dollars. I had took it by vw before it started to have any noticeable problems. When I had happened to look up recalls online. The man looked it up by my VIN. Told me there were 3 active recalls. But it would be another week before they could get to it. I asked if it would be ok to continue driving it, was any of them serious enough to not. He told me , no, that it would be fine to drive. Said specially since I wasent having any problems already .

5 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/16/2019

My dsg transmission is throwing codes 18232-pressure control valve 3 n217 and pressure control valve 3 n215. Transmission reverse will stop working. Have to tun off car and tunr on will work. Also driving high speeds in freeway car begins to slip gears and then swithes to n. Have to ry and pull over on side. Turn off car and turn back on. Car will then work in limp mode. Appapernetly this is a know issues with dsg trans but my VIN is not reported to to qualify?.

Tl-the contact owns a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that the on several occasions while driving at various speeds, the vehicle independently shifted into neutral. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure or retrieve a fault code. A dealer was not contacted. The failure recurred four times. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 09v333000 (power train). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 105,000. Ah.

7 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/24/2017

Oil seals leaking oil all over engine, major carbon build up failing axles. I was driving on the road and the car made a major thud and check engine light came on. Took car to dealer next day and they found all seals on the engine are leaking oil and water pump has failed and major carbon build up in engine. Found oil on ground of my garage. Front suspension known to make crunching sounds when going over major bumps when cold.

8 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2016

My Jetta is experiencing the same safety issues as indicated in report NHTSA campaign number: 09v333000. While in drive the transmission goes into neutral, uncommand. However, my VIN number is not included in the recall vw 37e3/s7 for NHTSA campaign number 09v-333. Please consider adding my VIN number to the vw recall. I will contact vw and request the same.

9 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2016

I am requesting that the dot NHTSA investigate the timing chain tensioner in this make and model of car. I started my car one morning and the engine made a metallic rattling sound as I proceeded to back out of the driveway. No check engine light came on until reaching the end of the driveway. Car was then driven to dealership immediately and diagnosed as having "jumped time" due to the failure of the timing chain tensioner. Upon picking up the car several days later after the repairs were complete, the service advisor informed us that that the metal ring holding the tensioner latch in place had fallen off; allowing the tiny adjustable latch to fall out, and that both pieces were lying, loose, in the compartment when the car was taken apart. This failure appears to be related to technical service bulletin 15-12-01. A web search reveals that this problem has become more and more common and affects multiple years and models of Volkswagen automobiles. The car had approximately 49,000 miles on it at the time of the failure and never missed a service. Vw was notified of the failure.

10 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/29/2016

Car's transmission shifts into neutral with no warning. Has done it while turning in intersections, near rail road tracks, interstate construction areas. Car has to come to a complete stop and engine be shut off, then it may or may not go, may have to do multiple times before car will move again. Flashes error in dash and trans light blinks. Car was recalled once for this issue and "fixed" by vw and now it is doing it again. Total safety issue and vw is turning their heads to it.

11 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/17/2015

The timing chain tension broke causing the chain to break off and bend several values causing extension damage to the motor. Most cars are equipped with timing belts but vw went to the timing chain in return the tensioner which they later revised is faulty and breaks causing the chain to destroy several important parts. Vw is unwilling to help us with this issue that they know is an issue because they later corrected in the later models. I called customer care but because the power train warranty at 60,000 is expired they will do nothing. There is a huge forum started with several people that have had this use around 80-110,00 miles!! I am outraged and have to spend thousands of dollars to repair all the damage or basically get a new car. The car is worthless at this point.

12 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2015

My make and model fall within the paramaters of the vw recall 37e3/s7, nhsta 09v333000 and vwoa is refussing my claim. My vehicle has shown the documented problems for over 100,000 miles. My vehicle goes into neutral suddenly several times a day.

13 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2015

Driving down the road at 35 mph the car suddenly dies, leaving me no power to escape a possible accident, brakes are hard to use, stuck in a traffic lane with cars coming up on me at 35 to 45 mph, turns out the hpfp exploded sending metal thru out the fuel system causing the engine to starve for fuel and stall out, with no fuel getting to the engine the motor wont restart causing a life threatening situation.

14 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2015

I was driving on the highway at 65 miles per hour, and my engine stalled. This came without warning from the alert systems. I towed the car to the dealership, and the service department said that the high pressure fuel pump had malfunctioned. There is an extended warranty on the high pressure fuel pumps, and my car was in the mileage and age limits. They said they would test my fuel, and if it had a trace of gasoline in the diesel engine, then the extended powertrain warranty would be voided. The test results showed no trace of gasoline, but they still refused to pay for the repairs. This cost me over $4000. This is identical to the problems reported in NHTSA action number ea11003.

15 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2015

I recently replaced the dmf (dual mass flywheel) in my car. It was preventative maintenance, as a failed flywheel is a hazard. The flywheel was failing to the point where it could be heard rattling while the car was running. The flywheels can fail unexpectedly at any time or speed, possibly causing serious damage to the engine and transmission, and possibly causing a sudden, uncontrollable stop. Researching online shows this part is prone to failure. I believe there should be a recall. Vw has done nothing of the sort.

16 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/22/2015

I was driving my Jetta tdi to work on I-270 in the morning, the check engine light turn on and the abs light flashing and the transmission going to neutral and stop working , cannot accelerate the car just slow down on the highway, I turn my signal light to right and let it decelerated to the right lane . At my back was a truck its good that the driver of the truck was able to slow down if not my Jetta will be rear ended crush. Let the engine cool down and restart it and drove home quickly. I use my vag scanner on engine code I got 049409 and on abs 01315 both about transmission module lost communications. Inside the dsg its the mechatronic unit failure. I check with vw dealer the mechatronic is out of warranty no extension too. Anyway I bought the mechatronic and fluids replaces it and do the basic settings. The car is safe to drive again. This is a safety issue vw should have a recall on this mechatronic failure. In australia and in asia country they have recall too.

17 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/14/2015

Automatic transmission shifts into neutral without warning. Car works properly after parking and restart.

18 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2014

The turbocharger failed at low speed. There was a loud whining/howling sound. The cost of repair was $2,566. 64.

19 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/12/2014

Car went into a false neutral while backing up in parking lot, dealer refused to extend warranty vw tdi 2009 sports wagon.

20 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/03/2014

The contact owns a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that the gears were difficult to shift and the vehicle jerked. The failure recurred on numerous occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign number: 09v333000 (power train). The VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 79,000.

21 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/27/2013

Was on the highway and the engine started to stall. Glow plug light flashing and engine light on. Display reads something about engine fault workshop. I turned car on and no problem or lights or errors were displayed. Started driving and car had very minimal power and would shift high rpm. Towed car to vw dealership and they said my high pressure fuel pump had deteriorated and sent metal shavings through my fuel pump system. $6k to fix! a faulty part and vw says it's my responsibility to fix. I wish vw would hold to their cars.

22 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/25/2013

Vw Jetta reverse / forward action error. Malfunction of car electronics / mechanics causing sudden acceleration and surging.

23 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/20/2013

All gears on the control panel where flashing. Dsg gave a false-neutral. Thankfully, the car is parked in the garage but still will not engage into reverse or drive. Last tested (10/22/13). I have contacted Volkswagen customer care and local dealership, both mentioned that there may be an issue with a g509 (??).

24 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2013

I was stuck on a busy intersection because my car wouldn't lock onto the gear. All gears on the control panel where flashing. Upon later research, I was told that the dsg gave a false-neutral.

25 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2013

The contact owns a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that while traveling various speeds, the vehicle hesitated to respond to acceleration attempts. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic who stated that the turbo actuator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified and informed the contact that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number 09v333000 (power train). The approximate failure mileage was 120,000.

26 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/22/2012

This is my second complaint on this website for the same problem with my 2009 Jetta sportwagen with dsg transmission. My mechatronic unit was replaced in July 2012, but it wasn't 2 weeks before the car started back to it's old tricks again. This time the hesitating from a stop, jerking, rolling back and forth when you park, and rolling backward on an incline when shifting into drive from reverse was even worse than before the mechatronic unit replaced. This morning, while backing out of the garage (which is on a slope) when I shifted into drive and lifted off the brake the car quickly rolled back 2 to 3 feet before I could stop the car while narrowly missing our truck's bumper. We went straight to vw and as before their is no code and the fluid is at appropriate levels. There is nothing they can do. . . Vw customer care was contacted with another case number. It appears that vw is not standing behind their warranty, so I guess we'll have to escalate to the next level.

27 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/21/2012

Vehicle down shifts hard when coming to a stop and seems to have delayed shifts when accelerator is pressed. Very unsafe due jerking motion when trying to stop or start.

28 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/06/2012

Felt a shudder in the drive train; a few seconds later the glow plug light began to flash; the multi-function computer flashed that there was an engine fault and to service the engine; the engine shutdown and I pulled over to the side of the road; engine would not restart; dealer analysis revealed the high pressure fuel pump failed apparently sending shards of metal particles downstream of the pump; pump and other hardware downstream of the pump are scheduled for replacement ## VIN passed ## Volkswagen Jetta sportwagen tdi 2009 ##.

29 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2012

Vehicle is a 2009 Jetta sedan - tdi (diesel) vehicle shut down while driving. Flow plug light flashed on dash along with display of "engine fault workshop" vehicle would not restart. Pulled code of p0087 fuel rail/system pressure low. Towed to dealer, boucher vw in franklin, WI. Dealer confirmed fault was a high-pressure fuel pump failure.

30 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/29/2012

2009 tdi Jetta high pressure fuel pump. Three pumps have been put in and it keeps failing on the highway twice and was extremely dangerous and I am over warranty and it seems to be a faulty design. Don't know what steps to take here they have had my car for almost 90 days. The consumer also stated two transmission fans have been installed in the vehicle. He was then told a new turbo was needed at a cost of $3000. Updated ivoq 12/10/12.

31 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/29/2012

For the second time my fuel pump went out. Also for the second time I was accused of using bio diesel or regular fuel by the dealer. I was driving a long it sounded like a gear was tumbling around then a grinding noise followed. Luckily I was a low rate of speed and was able to pull off to a side street with out problem. Last week the gear box went out as well. It had issues on going in to reverse from drive. Often I would have to put the car in to park turn it off then restart to get it to go in to reverse.

32 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2012

The contact owns a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta tdi. The contact stated that while driving 4 mph the transmission shifted into neutral independently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the transmission valve and the dsg temperature sensor needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance since the vehicle was no longer under warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 110,000 and the current mileage was 124,000.

33 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/25/2011

Vehicle will not start on first 4-6 attempts after a cold snap and subsequent warm weather. Issue points to water building up in intercooler hoses. Vw has TSB posted but may not fully resolve issue. 21 11 01 / 2025464 dated may 24, 2011, titled "frozen charge air cooler ? engine will not start". It calls for installing a 1k0-198-803-b cold weather intercooler kit. . Read more...

34 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2011

First incident in July 2011 but same ongoing issue and at the dealership at least 8 times in 11 months. Currently at the dealership again for almost 3 weeks now. Its always the same "symptoms" but always told its another problem. . . . . As follows: -sputters and jerks -exhaust or gas fumes overcome the car -engine revs but the car wont move, then jolts forward. -stalls when trying to start, it jerks violently making a putting noise as if it can't get fuel then dies. -there's a beeping noise coming from something in the engine when it stalls that no one seems to know what it is. I have replaced: -intake manifold -all fuel sensors -low pressure fuel pump -high pressure fuel pump -melted fuses with unknown cause -two batteries -other smaller items related to fuel system.

35 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2011

I was on the exit ramp of the interstate and the go to workshop warning came on along with the glow plug warning light. Vehicle lost power, I was able to get to a side street and turned off vehicle, it restarted and seemed fine drove about 2 miles and stopped for a light, car stalled and warning lights came back on. Car did not restart had push to side of road and tow home. Towed to dealer first of week. Found to be high pressure fuel pump failure of the diesel engine. This is the second one to go bad first one at 135380 miles and now at 228605 miles only 93225 miles on repair job. Vw repaired the first one, replaced entire fuel system at no charge, do to faulty hpfp. Even though this pump has less miles they will not help with repair cost. Both times car died at a major intersection and had to be pushed to side of road.
