I was parked and suddenly my car did not want to start, no warning lights came on before experiencing this issue. After bringing it to the dealership according to them battery needs to be replaced again and it has been only about 2 years or less from last replacement. This issue clearly needs to be address immediately as batteries should last for minimum of 3 years. Also after experiencing problems with the battery the airbag warning lights came on and Volkswagen dealership is stating I must replace faulty airbag indicator light and pay it from my pocket which I find unacceptable. This issue needs to be further investigated as airbag warning indicator can also be related to Volkswagen's clock spring problems.

While parked the ignition key failed to turn " as if steering wheel lock was welded solid". I could not turn the key at all. Car could not be started after repeated attempts, and had to be towed to a repair available. As a result I had to call a neighbor to take my wife to the hospital. Parts have been ordered, but the mechanic has not received a delivery confirmation date. Steering wheel is completely immovable.

The problem started at around 60,000 miles were the car would not start unless you jiggled the key around a lot and progressively got worse we're when the car was running the key would be stuck and you would have to continuously jiggle the key around to get the car to turn off. Then as it got worse, when you could get the car to cut off the key would not come out of the ignition. I am at the point now that the key will not turn at all to cut the car on. Luckily the key is not stuck in the ignition. I am having to replace the ignition which will cost in best case scenario around 675. In the event the keys have to be reprogrammed it will cost a total of 850. These are estimates from what the dealership has quoted in parts and labor, the ignition is currently being replaced and I have not received a total. Seems like this is a common problem and should be fixed by Volkswagen. Replacing lock cylinder and ignition switch.
Tl the contact owns a 2016 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that all the sensors on the vehicle failed, and the indicators for the turn signals, brakes, and doors failed to illuminate on the instrument panel. Also, the vehicle failed to start and the backup camera failed to function. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failures and did not assist. The approximate failure mileage was 40,000.
The contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start and the air bag and brake indicators illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 15,800.

I bought my car in July 2015, new, from larry roesch dealer in chicago, after waiting 8 hours in the waiting room for them to "clean my car in the back shop"- while several other customers came and went with their new cars. After only a few thousand miles on my car, it needed to have a quart and half oil added to it and the oil light came on. I took it into the dealer and they said it was "normal". After I called the manufacturer to request a letter stating my car was clear and did not have any recall issues, I was told the letter could not be issued because there was, indeed, a recall issue which had to do with the camshaft. I was told this issue did not have a fix for it and would not have one until March 2016. I requested a letter stating it would be safe to drive the car with my children and family, but vw said they were not able to give such a letter stating that the model of the car was "safe to drive". I told them I was not comfortable driving a car that could potentially shut off while driving on the highway and causing injury or death to my family-- at that point, vw agreed to tow my car and to replace the camshaft (even though I was initially told by vw that the camshaft replacement would cause the very same issue). I received the vw Jetta se 1. 8t back from pugi dealers last Thursday and was told there should not be any other problems. Today, I drove half mile from my home to the laundry and when I returned to my car, the car would not start, the light indicator for "steering malfunction and engine issues" came on. I called vw and they have towed the car to pugi dealership, yet again, and I do not have a car - once again- to take my children to school and work, etc. There is a very obvious and serious issue with my car. It is not something to play with people's lives over, since vw told me it cannot be fixed and could potentially cause a crash.

Radio on 2010 vw Jetta tdi died durring the summer. Now, in November, the car will not start unless jumped with another car or battery charger. Fuses in car are intact.
Door locks failed and had to be replaced. Battery drain when not used for two weeks, requiring jump start (replaced battery one year ago). Car would not start (battery wouldn't even turn over, yes the same new battery) towed to dealer who said they replaced some fuses. Recently, radio will not power on. Dealer states the radio failed, fuses fine. I have seen 100s of reports of failed radios and door locks in the 2010 Jetta. There must be a faulty electrical system in this vehicle. Cars that are 5 years old (I have seen reports of this happening when the car is only 3 years old) are not supposed to have these problems. All of these problems have occurred in the past year, mileage between 100-110k.
The panic button on the key fob has no delay. If you push it one time, with very little pressure, the alarm goes off. I was stopped at a stop light and I stalled the engine with the manual transmission. I went to turn the key off and back on again to start the engine and since the panic button is on the side of the key (facing straight up, or down when in the ignition). The alarm started going off and the engine wouldn't start. I was holding back traffic, scrambling to figure out what had happened as the action was completely unintentional. This is a safety issue and needs to be addressed. Other key fobs I've had required pressing and holding the panic button for 1 or 2 seconds to activate it. Bad design of key fob, the button at least should be slightly recessed.
The "under hood fuse box" was replaced in may 2014 under recall #97am. When the weather turned cold the car began to get hard to start, the engine light came on, and when it turned very cold the car would not start at all. I took the vehicle back to dealer, they cleared the code and said if the code came back they would need to replace the "glow plug control module". When I came home I started searching the "tdi forums" for similar problems. I found others had the same issue and someone found the solution. When the fuse box was replaced, there is a little jumper (vw part number: 3c0-971-249) (cost $5. ) that goes in a relay slot (r2) that sends power to a 50 amp fuse (sb27), that sends power to the "glow plug control module" (j179) that sends power to the glow plugs when the engine is below 18 degrees c, allowing the engine to start when cold (and without smoking). ** problem is that there is no legend provided for the under hood fuse box, so no way to know if something is missing. This is also a safety hazard because if someone would pull a fuse and not pay attention, there is nothing to indicate where or what size of fuse to put back in. This could effect anything from headlights to abs.

Driving down freeway at 61mph, engine turns off. No power steering or breaks while I changed lanes in heavy traffic to get to the shoulder of the road. Car would not start and had to tow to the dealership. Dealer replaced battery, primed fuel system, gave car back. After five days, check engine light came on, so I took car to dealership. They replaced glow plug control module and gave car back. Driving down highway when car again dies, engine turns off without warning. I have to change lanes again with no power steering or breaks to get off the road. Towed vehicle to dealership where they say the high pressure fuel pump needs to be replaced. This is a very scary and dangerouse problem to have a car turn itself off while driving down the freeway.
November 2014 incidents: two incidents of failing to start. First incident: car failed to start once and started on second try. Second incident: car several times failed to start & engine made clanking noise. Had car towed to vw agency. Car started after unloaded from tow truck and agency found nothing wrong. December 2014 incident: car started, but after slowly driving to parking lot exit and before at full stop, at engine quit and would not restart. I put the car in neutral and backed down a slight grade to get car out of traffic; after coming to a stop the car started up.
Ignition switch bushing. There is a nylon or plastic bushing in the key ignition switch to start the car that can become dislodged and prevent the key from going into the pathway. Car cannot be started for this reason. Must be towed. Vw has told us that this happens frequently to the vw Jettas. Note: there may be other models affected if they use the same type of ignition switch. Repairs will cost ~$600 for installation of a new ignition switch.

The contact owns a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that when the ignition was turned to the on position, the vehicle failed to start. When the ignition was turned to the off position and back to the on position, the engine started and stalled. The engine restarted after 20 minutes. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that there was moisture in the inner cooling system and it needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred six months later. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 24,796.
I was driving on the highway and the check engine light came on. The vehicle would not hold speed or accelerate. I pulled off the highway and the vehicle stalled out and would not restart. We replaced the high pressure fuel pump and fuse box. The car still will not start after a new fuel pump and fuse box, and we have been told that the wiring harness needs to be replaced.
The vehicle had driven fine all day when all of a sudden when I pulled up to a stop sign, the car died like it was running out of gas. I was in the middle of a the road at the stop sign, the car managed to start again and drive another couple hundred feet to get it off to the side of the road. Luckily I made it just past a set of rail road tracks. The car did not start again and had to be towed. The vehicle had its entire fuel injection pump system replaced along with the sensors. Mechanics have told me that the pumps should last the life of the engine.
The contact owns a 2008 Volkswagen Jetta. The contact stated that the key would not insert into the ignition and the vehicle would not start. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for an inspection and they stated that the cylinder lock was blocked and the ignition switch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified and they took a complaint. The failure mileage was 47,000.
A few weeks ago, I went to start my car and all the lights were flashing and car didn't start. Jumped the battery, got the car running; but ever since my air bag light has stayed on and the driver's window is slow, the auto up/down feature not working, and if the driver door is open, I can't pop trunk or gas lid or roll down any of the windows. My car is no longer under warranty, so it's going to be very expensive to fix the multiple issues.

Attempted to start 2011 Jetta tdi with 11000 miles after it had been sitting in a parking lot for 9 hours. Temperature 45f outside. Vehicle started perfectly and then died seconds later. Attempted to start vehicle again, but would not turn over. Had a lot of trouble getting it to start and when it did it was running very rough and then would die immediately. Finally able to start vehicle and keep it running after approximately 30 minutes. Was able to drive 30+ miles home - started fine after. This is the second occurrance. This first occurred approximately 1 month ago with 8000 miles on vehicle. Outside temperature was in mid forties. Car would not start at all - kept turning over, but would not start. Glow plug light flashed intermitently. After waiting approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour the car started up fine without hesitation. Vehicle was at dealer 2 days prior to second incident, but they could not find anything. Vehicle will be returning to dealer ASAP.
My Jetta will not start after no signs of an issue. I've had it towed twice because of this issue to pep boys (per warranty company) and was able to drive it home but that is it. They told me that it seemed as if something was draining the battery. I've taken the battery to place of purchace and results were good and the battery is fine. Pep boys recommends I take car to vw dealer. This is tough on my family and I because this is our only car and no one can tell us the reason why our car doesn't work. Car was purchased 7/24/2010.

On Friday, April 15th at approx 10:30pm I was driving my 2011 vw Jetta tdi (with less than 1800 miles on it) on the highway approx 2 1/2 hours from home and it stalled. I coasted off to the shoulder and was not able to restart the engine. After nearly 2 hours the tow truck arrived that vw roadside assistance sent and the car was towed to the nearest dealership which was about 60 miles away from the breakdown point. I had to spend the night in a hotel in a strange area. On Monday, April 18th the dealership stated an outstanding electrical recall was the problem. They changed a wire harness and some fuses and the car was ready for pick up. I drove 100 miles to retrieve my car on April 18th. Today on April 19th after sitting in my driveway overnight the car would not start again and was towed to the nearest vw dealership in my home town. Still waiting for waiting for a diagnosis. The dealership states they only have 1 vw technician and he is on vacation through Friday April 22nd.
The contact owns a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta. While driving approximately 25 mph, the vehicle stalled with the illumination of the battery warning light. The vehicle would not restart and had to be pushed into a parking lot. Within a few minutes, the battery warning light was no longer illuminated and the vehicle restarted. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. The failure did not recur. The approximate failure mileage was 280.
I purchased a used certified 2000 Volkswagen Jetta in January 2004, after only one week of purchasing the vehicle, the engine light came on, the accelerator was making a vibrating sound and stalling continuously. Okay, the transmission went out and it had to be replaced at my expense - I purchased a used transmission and then the engine throttle failed and the car wouldn't even start one day - had that replaced at my expense $1700. No the old parts are not available. Okay, there's more, the brakes have been replaced a total of four times within three years, the engine light is still on, air bag light on, brake light on, lights and fog interior fuses and exterior lights have been replaced I don't know how many times, I have put so much money into this vehicle - and it still is running badly. As of today, the car won't move without warming it up first for about 45 minutes fully - when you press on the accelerator without warming it up first - it will stall and make a loud embarrassing noise as if the engine is going to explode - and you have to literally make it move by pressing very hard on the accelerator and praying that it won't just shut off while driving and never start again. My vehicle has 117,000 miles on it had 43,500 when I bought it (I know stupid wasn't I) it was my first vehicle. I know a car is not suppose to last forever, but dam does it have to cost so much to try and keep it running until it dies. Please help me with any information you may have to assist me in this matter.

Vehicle failed to start on multiple occasions due to insufficient battery charge. Owner observed brake lights including chmsl would come on independently while the vehicle was parked, shut off, and unoccupied with no brake pedal application. No other lights were on at the same time interior, headlights, turn signals were on. This was presumably the cause of the battery drain issue. On multiple occasions after jump starting the vehicle owner observed loss of power while trying to accelerate. Input to the accelerator was momentarily ineffective and had trouble maintaining highway speed. The engine did not stall and no fault codes were generated. Power was restored after a few seconds, but the symptoms would occur several times during a drive. Vehicle was brought to a Volkswagen dealership service facility (lindsay vw in sterling, va) on 7/13/2007. The owner described the above symptoms to the service advisor. The owner was called later on the same date and told that the dealership could not verify the claim and that no repair was performed. Took car to a different dealer (fairfax vw) who correctly diagnosed the problem as a faulty brake light switch. The repair part is the same part used in the recall. The car was fixed under warranty and the repair invoice even states "recall" on it but the dealer says my car is not part of the recall and I never received notification.
Bought used vw from a dealer. Dealer was doing brakes/inspection, and on picking up the vehicle stunk of burnt electric smell. Vehicle would not start. This was around 50,000 miles. Check engine light remains on although numerous codes continue to come up nothing is found. Dealer sent car to authorized vw dealer to fix - light still remains on. Around 87,000 miles car began to drain battery and would not start even after new battery. Took to authorized vw car shop. Seems something with fuses/electrical system. Again many codes but nothing seems wrong, accept for the whole not starting. Ignition switch was replaced - light still on. Lighter socket no longer works. Now around 89,000 miles and it is now early 2008.
My brand new 2003 Jetta gli failed to start at a shopping center. The car was parked there for only two hours. Seems like the battery and ignition switch works, but the engine would not start. Called aaa. After 10 minutes and numerous attempts of cranking the engine, he was able to start the car. Took car into the delearship. They were not able to duplicate the problem after two days, but put 60 miles on the car.

3)vehicle has failed to start on two occasions - I wait a minute and try again - it worked
4)my window fell into the door
5)I experienced an activation of numerous engine fault lights that reset following engine restart
6)the coating on interior door handle surfaces peels off easily
7)the chrome ring around the shift know is peeling.

This is the second time now that my 2003 vw 1. 8t Jetta would not start when I went to leave for work in the morning. I un-lock the doors with the remote and get in the car, press in on the clutch and turn the key, the headlights, radio, door-chimes and interior lights all come on but the engine will not turn over at all. I only have 8800 miles on the car at this point in time, the first time was about two weeks ago and the dealer can't seem to find anything wrong with it. I don't understand what could possibly be causing the problem except that both time it has been near freezing outside and the car had sat over-night. The first time the dealer had my car for three days, without giving me a loaner car before they told me to come pick it up because they couldn't duplicate the problem. This time they have had my car for two days now, and I haven't even received a phone call from them to let me know about the progress of my vehicle.
